Joo-won offered Level 7 Civil Servant remake

Well, when you’re on fire you’re on fire. Being knee-deep in one drama apparently doesn’t preclude you from getting cast in your next one, because Joo-won is reportedly up for the lead in the upcoming drama adaptation of Level 7 Civil Servant, the hit 2009 film starring Kim Haneul and Kang Ji-hwan (also called My Girlfriend Is an Agent). The drama version will be called Secret Man and Woman, which I suppose is less of a tongue-twister than the original film’s title, but still lacks a punch. Hopefully the production company will come up with an English title I like. But so far, the casting’s going in a direction I very much like.

It’s a romantic comedy about a regular guy who dates a woman not knowing that she’s actually a super-secret agent. She eventually ends things to keep her cover, and then returns years later… only by then HE’s been recruited to be a super-secret spy too, and their jobs start to complicate things. The movie’s awesome, the premise is rife with action and comedy, and when cast right, it should be crackling with chemistry.

The drama is being written by the original film’s writer, Chun Sung-il, of Chuno and Runaway. So we can expect slick, glossy action. All this has to be taken with a grain of salt though, as this drama has been in development for years, and has had many a casting rumor come and go. It’s reportedly got a slot on the MBC lineup, as a 24-episode Wednesday-Thursday drama, set to follow Arang and the Magistrate.

But that’s IF it can be cast in time, and already the production is in danger of not making that timeslot. The offer has been made to Joo-won, who’s considering the role, but that basically means zero time between Gaksital and this new drama, if he takes it. Will he never rest? I guess he wasn’t kidding about his Tae-woong hyung adoration and wanting to be just like him, because these guys don’t know the meaning of vacation.

I suppose when you’re young and hungry and you’re the hot new commodity around town, you sacrifice some zzzz’s to go from masked crusader of Joseon to secret agent man, all with a swagger and dimpled smile. We’ll see if this is the leading man to get this drama out of development hell and onto the roster for good. And I warn you now Show, if you can’t cast someone badass as the heroine, we will have WORDS.

I really love this actor Joo Won since "Baker King Tak Goo" & I love that he picked his previous drama projects was really GOOOD.....But he will able to confirm this drama ~ Oh lord, he's REALLY something! So freaking AWESOME! :D Actually, I really enjoy watching Gakistal because of HIM!! CHEER CHEER ~ PLEASE let us know if you are confirmed, Joo Won ~ FIGHTING! <3

Wang Ji Hye the ditz in Protect the boss. She is tall, she is lean. She can act and I totally think she can be a 2 face agent. Sweet face girlfriend. Kick ass agent.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this drama might have problems since it hasn't been able cast anyone so far??....other than that I also dont think Joo Won will pick this if he is in his right mind and cares about his health...also, I loved the movie but 24 eps is a bit much for a drama version of it

That said I'm joining the casting speculations fervor...*rubs hands together*....here are my picks for leading lady:
Han Groo (soooooo awesome & I think she can manage the age part)
Kim So Yeon (but would it be too hard to surpass that age difference?)
Moon Geun Young (would be so wonderful to see my favorite to make a comeback in something different)
Yoon Eun Hye ( Can kickass and needs to stop with the crappy romcoms)

he will need it. seems like something lighter on the side of Gaksital. I do hope it doesnt turn into typecasting for him though.
I wish I could see more of 1N2D somewhere, it is so amazing how he is so different there. it is like a bloodhound turning into a cookie-monster.

The movie was totally AWESOME and Kang Ji-Hwan was soooo sexy and hot in it that I googled his other dramas and movies and watched them! Although was totally disappointed with Lie to Me.

Joo Won in the role would be something to look forward to - he would nail the role as he is a very versatile actor and do have excellent comedic timing. His performance in Ojakgyo brothers was totally memesmerising.

I saw the movie, and for some reason, I don't remember anything that the heroine did. All I remember was Kang Ji Hwan. :(

As for fantasy casting, I was leaning towards my bias Son Ye Jin. They could play up the age difference, and have the characters think they're only dealing with the stereotypical nuna romance (strong nuna to man-child). Little do they both know that it's the least of their problems.

But someone brought up Park Ha Sun's name. So now I switch sides. I think PHS can do justice to the role and bring the funny and the fierce. She's so angelic looking, it would really work as her cover. JooWon and PHS are both 1987-ers. I was racking my brains for good actresses born in his year, and coming up empty.

Woot! Woot! I admit I wouldn't want Joo Won to overwork himself with all these dramas he's starring in, one after the other. We've all seen news of idols, actors, and the like collapsing due to stress.

But I'm already rejoicing at the thought of Joo Won doing a drama like this! Especially after an intense and crazy drama/action like Gaksital, it'd be great to relax and unwind with an action/rom-com like Level 7 Civil Servant, the drama.

I vote for Lee Si Young for the female lead, she can literally kick ass and her comedic chops are excellent, I watch this movie, and believe me just cried in laughing! LSY was good in wild romance and her role in playful kiss was bitchy, she nailed that role as well, I think this role will be perfect for her.

I believe this was also offered to Kim Nam-gil who will be out in military service this September...and to Lee Dong -gun if accepted...both have a great chemistry with Ha Jiwon.

I see no problem with Joo Won accepting this role...he just need a perfect partner. He seemed to have a great chemistry with UEE...and i would say he's OK with Ha Jiwon...JW has a matured look. But again he better guard his health.

Just finished this movie the other day and oh man, if Joo Won takes this role... I'm down, totally down for it. I love the original pairing in the movie so I'm hoping for an equally as good pairing with Joo Won and new female lead.

As much as I love HA JI WON and SON YE JIN, I think KIM HA NEUL and KANG JI HWAN would be great. Aside from they were the original lead cast, whenever I read/heard "Level 7 Civil Servant" they are the only ones in my mind. Gah!

I seriously think Joo won needs to rest, filming a drama is exhausting enough, but with 1n2d, I'm not surprised he gets 30mins of sleep a day only, which is absolutely bad for the body. Doesn't matter if he's young or not.
UTW is okay since he's more of a movie actor and movie filming isn't as tiring or time consuming, you can film 2-3 movies in a year and get ample rest in between. Drama filming is the worst! He (and you guys) need to think of health first...
