Lee Da-hae and Jang Hyuk to reunite for IRIS 2?

Lee Da-hae and Jang Hyuk? AGAIN? Are we making IRIS 2 or Chuno 2? The latest installment of the spy action IRIS franchise is now courting Jang and Lee for the leading roles, and both actors are reportedly “considering favorably.” If they sign on, it’ll be the third time they’re paired for a drama: once for Robbers, twice for Chuno… and maybe a third time for international spy antics is the charm?

I can’t help but feel like we’ve been there and done that, so many times over with this setup. There’s IRIS and its not-a-sequel-but-totally-a-sequel Athena, and a pair of leads who’ve been paired together twice before, for another go at the same universe. The sequel will take place three years after the end of IRIS, and follow original baddie Baek San’s organization all the way up to a Mr. Black who’s behind it all.

No word yet on the lead characters that Jang and Lee would play, but I bet I can get pretty close. Well, uh, spies. (Unless suddenly the sequel is going for the comedy and it’s about the mailroom clerks who work in the bunker and keep inadvertently saving the world.) One of them is a super-secret black-ops-trained agent who has a hard time taking orders. The other is a stickler for rules and doesn’t like teamwork. Nobody trusts anybody. They wear a lot of black. They have tragic pasts. They’re only allowed to fall in love in Japan. One or both might be evil, pretending to be evil but good, evil but then turned good by the powers of love, or all of the above.

Here’s my big question: WHY didn’t this franchise just give a drama to Kim So-yeon? So far my favorite characters in both IRIS and Athena are the sympathetic North Korean agents, played by Kim So-yeon, Kim Seung-woo, and Kim Min-jong. It’s likely because they’re given the most interesting and complex characterization, as agents with conflicted agendas. And each of them could carry a series on their own, not to mention what awesomeness it is when they’re together. Now that’s a show I’d watch in a heartbeat. Maybe Chuniris will reprise their characters, or… wait… MAYBE they’ll just re-cast all of Chuno, but just dress them in suits and give them guns? Okay, now that would be funny.

IRIS 2 is planning for an early 2013 broadcast.

I like this couple, now watching them at KBS World, they show Chuno again.

Lee Da Hae is so beautiful, and the chemistry is so great with Jang hyuk, and waiting for her part with Oh Ji Ho.

Looking at her profile, most of her projects are very successful, no wonder most producers want her.

If JH paired with KSA, I think it will be interesting.. For LDH, maybe this drama will lead her to prove that she's not only sweet-romance-queen-with-lovely-face-who's-dare-to-be-dirty.. I've been watching her TW-drama "Love Actually", and I feel surprise when I found her lips move in chinese language, I appreciate her effort for it.. :)

hi hope #40. my first ever watched korean drama is also "my girl" to but unlike you i like it. i cried with lee da hae when she's in the airport leaving korean. i used to love lee da hae back in the days when she has chubby cheecks but she keeps changing her face. and that's the only thing i dislike her for not getting enough of prettiness. she's like always put her beauty infront of cameras and always make pretty face. Robber is bored enough and paired again in chunno which is bored too. and now again. i'm out.

I would love to see this because I love their chemistry. At least, they already know each other after 2 dramas together. Looking forward to this one...

re: Jang Hyuk as a whhhhhat? ONE-NOTE. Jang Hyuk is Jang Hyuk and he is nowhere to be described as one-note.. he/she must have watched a different drama while riding a roller coaster eating spoiled pasta.

re: Lee Da Hae in an action drama? not good. She should stick with rom-com. "My Girl" will always be in my top list drama.

re: Kim So Yeon. Looking forward to Great Seer with Jae Hee. I think it will be her first saeguk and i am looking forward to it. Hope she'll rock the Joseon garb

re: IRIS 2. Sincerely I'm all for it since it would have to be reformatted since they killed the Character of LBH. I'm all for crime solving, mystery and all that. I've recently watched Ghost with So Ji Sub, except the knot on his forehead, I enjoyed the drama. So when I couldn't Gaksital. why was the lead actress sporting a treated hair? was it the mode even during that era? I don't think so.

re: Gaksital. except from the girl's treated hair the concept was good. It reminds me of Zorro, and I loved the first episodes, It was my first time watching Shin Hyun-jun but fell for his acting and cried when he cried and rooted for him all the way. I liked him better as Gaksital sorry to Joo Won's fans. I fell asleep somewhere in episode 15.

I had no problem with Da Hae's character in Chuno, nor her acting. Her character's persona was plausible for the period. But I couldn't stomach the whole drama due to an awful screenplay. Indeed, I cringed my way through a few episodes in hope it might improve.

As for the martial arts action, it may as well have been a Chinese opera. Does anyone really think that's how real warriors fought back then? Even the warriors who had some mastery of the five airs in the body, would not be so wreckless. No offense to our Korean friends, but those dance moves they call martial arts, would get them killed in a real fight. And I think its a stain on the memory of the great warriors in Korea's past.

It seems the creators of the drama and the network while gleefully observing their growing bank balance, avoids the angst from the mob, who in frustration and true to their cowardly nature, turns on the female performer Lee Da Hae. What did she do to deserve it? She took a part in a drama.
