Yoo Seung-ho joins I Miss You as Yoochun’s rival

Hot diggity. Yoo Seung-ho has just been added to I Miss You, and I am STOKED.

Funny that he should be going right from one Wednesday-Thursday drama (Arang and the Magistrate) into the show replacing it, but you will not hear me complaining about more Yoo Seung-ho. He has just confirmed that he’ll be playing the character of Kang Hyung-joon, aka the antagonist to hero Han Jung-woo (Yoochun), and his “mild-mannered smile hides the sharp blade of revenge.” The two men’s conflict dates back to their parents’ generation, and the role ought to give Yoo Seung-ho a change of pace as he displays an “icy charisma.”

One reason for Hyung-joon’s two-faced character can be traced back, naturally, to a painful emotional scar. That’s basically the foundation of all K-drama characters ever. Admittedly sometimes you just want to take aside those fiercely bitter antagonists and play them a round of “Everybody Hurts,” but I’m intrigued to see how Yoo will create this “devilish” character.

I know Yoo’s way younger than the rest of the cast and probably also his character, but he’s been playing above his age for years. Thankfully he has the skills, the presence, and a physical appearance that allows for that; he doesn’t have the round baby face that keeps him looking childlike. I’m a little bemused at how one considers both Yoo Seung-ho and Chun Jung-myung for the same role, but in any case I’m super excited about this direction. Yoo’s played villains before (Warrior Baek Dong-soo) and he’s acted in a range of genres despite his young years (he’s 19 now, although he did technically debut 12 years ago and is quite experienced for his age). He’s also played a number of kings (Legend, Queen Seon-deok) and a god, so authority and gravitas are not in question.

The drama stars Yoochun and Yoon Eun-hye as a couple who fall in love as teens, then miss connections over the next decade until they meet again as adults. Yeo Jin-gu and Kim So-hyun (of The Moon That Embraces the Sun) portray their younger counterparts and will appear in the drama’s first couple weeks. There’s a short mini-drama scheduled for MBC’s post-Arang slot, placing I Miss You’s premiere in early November.

Well, hello, that's a whole mess of noona killer going down in this show. Then again it's YEH, so who will be slaying who? I know a lot of people crit her acting, but I've always liked her. The woman definitely connects with her male leads. School will be in session.

I believe it premieres in 2 or 3 weeks, in early November. MBC is showing a short drama in between the end of Arang and the store of MY. Then it's about 4 episodes of the young kids before the adults appear permanently. So I guess they have some time (the adults that is).

Operation Proposal, Flames of Desire, God of Study, Warrior Baek Dong Soo - I've seen all these by him. I love his acting and his presence. Everything about him is going to be legendary. Now on this project.

First off, he's very young compared to our main leads. I hope his relationship with EH is more of a noona type, where he just one-sidely loves her. Although he's young, he can pull it off and we know that.

But unlike other leads that has been paired up with older actresses, they can pull it off because of their "manly" looks. Seung Ho is very manly but still, very baby faced at the same time. And blah blah blah - I just can't wait for this!!

People don't seem to have the same problem with an almost 10 years old gap between him and YEH here as they do in the Joo-won's drama. Heh.. what?

Oh right, he's not playing the lead. Never mind, head was somewhere else.

Well, try putting Choi Kang Hee and Yoon Eun Hye side by side and Choi Kang Hee would look like her mom.
Even if there's a 9 year gap between Yoo Seung Ho, it wouldn't be as noticable as Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee's glaring age difference cause CKH really looks old.

Ummm am i the only one has loved this kid since the 2002 film The Way Home? He and the old Korean Grandma made me cried for like a week and made me miss my own Grandmother... Really amazing debut and simple special story.

I don't really mind the 9 years age difference, YEH will definitely have chemistry with YSH as well as with PYC. But it will drive me crazy because it may make me root for YEH & YSH instead of the main OTP... And we all know in the end, he won't get the girl.. sob sob... Unless they'll pull Queen of Reversal, which is very very unlikely.

I think I'll be having second male lead syndrome again, just like in CYHMH. I was rooting for Bong Ma Roo (Nam Goong Min) more than Dong Joo (KJW). Even though MR is sooo evil, but his character is so layered that I love him more than DJ. And NGM performance was sooo good & convincing, he even outshone KJW in so many scenes.

So hopefully PYC, YEH & YSH will have equal footing in this drama, just like the three leads in Nice Guy.

Oh no! Second lead syndrome is so tragic. I didn't watch CYHMH, but I was all for the second lead in The Princess's Man (Song Jong-ho as Shin Myun). I was so sad when he went all crazy. Still love that man. :-)

JB, I'm not sure what you mean by saying YSH doesn't have a baby face since I kept getting so distracted by how YOUNG he looked in Arang, whenever he didn't have that horrible white-streaks wig on! But good on him for getting more work, and for making it versatile - I very much doubt this role is going to be anything like the old fogey ^_^

Yay, Old Fogey is back!! Wow, I didn't know that he is only 19 yo; he has the onscreen presence of someone much older. Gosh, I feel like such a pervy noona now. ~

I am soooooo in now. Please be good, drama.

Okay, now I'm totally watching. I've only seen Yoo Seung-ho in Arang and the Magistrate, but that was enough to intrigue me. I mean, I have yet to not watch a Yoon Eun-hye drama, so I was going to watch anyway, but this just cements it.

"Thankfully he has the skills, the presence, and a physical appearance that allows for that; he doesn’t have the round baby face that keeps him looking childlike."

I agree that he has the skill and the presence but I just can't see him as a man. He looks like a baby to me. I just can't see him with YooChun and YEH. There has been several occasions where I think the couple just doesn't have chemistry because the woman is more mature-looking than the man, like Han Ga In and Kim So Hyun or that actress and Bae Yong Joon in The Legend.

Depends on the wardrobe - especially his hair.

I think this is already a year ago, but he could be someone in his 20's.

Ehhh. I'm not a huge fan of Micky. I like Eun Hye and love Seung Ho, but I see no chemistry between the two....even between Eun Hye and Micky. This is one odd cast pairing/matching. But I might just watch it because of Seung Ho. Maybe.

Yoo Seung Ho is such a talented (scene stealer) actor!

I hadn't even given thought to this drama until now. I'm glad Park Yoochun will be working with one of South Korea's top actors.

Best news in K-Drama, yet! Thanks JB! :)

People behind this drama are serious with their castings. I was in the moment they casted Yoochun and Eun Hye and well adding Yoo Seung-ho to the mix Im super duper IN. Cant wait. Yoo Seung-ho can pull off anything, I'm hoping for the best.Im praying it's not another Mary, that one was disappointing even with the amazing cast.
My secret wish, Yoo Seung-ho ang Jang Geun Suk in one drama.

Acting wise I will be able to take him seriously, the hard part will be my brain trying to convince my eyes he is older than he is. Because he can run circles around people with his acting but the fact is that he looks young and YEH and Yoochun look their age so visually this will be hard to buy at least for me.

I do like that he isn't too egotistical to take a 2nd lead though. I often think the 2nd lead has a more meaty/interesting role than the main lead in many dramas so its good to see a guy that definitely had leading man A-list status to take a backseat and be willing to not get the girl.

im a fan of Seung-ho, consider all character in his previous drama. but I cant imagine him to be with yeh eun hye, or a rival to yoo chun. he will look like their brother. His physical experience and face is still like a high schooler or at most a college student. cant imagine him leading a company.
