girlfriday: …and we all have a better day.

javabeans: I mean, as far as news goes it’s not exactly doing much. Yet it’s doing a lot to make me happy, so who’s to argue against it?

girlfriday: Though Bazaar didn’t have to be so stingy with the teeny tiny photos of bath time. I mean, look at the soapy hairdos! Want moar!

javabeans: Maybe circulation is down. Gotta muster up interest somehow. And being a tease with nekkid photos of Sung Joon may have us cursing their name, but also shelling out the dough to buy it in all its glossy glory.

girlfriday: It IS the definition of a tease. I have to say, I’m glad he’s making the rounds doing promo for his horror movie Scary Story 2 because his look in Gu Family Book is not doing it for me.

javabeans: What, the stern horse-hair blunt cut isn’t rocking your socks? It’s like a mullet turned sideways, where it’s all business on top, all party on bottom.

girlfriday: I’m pretty sure that is a mullet, though I’m not an expert on that.

javabeans: There’s a subtle difference: mullets are front versus back, and here we’re talking literal top and bottom where the top is slicked back and serious, and the bottom is just blowin’ in the breeze. But it’s okay, I think NOT being keyed in to the nuances of mullethood is probably the better way to be.

girlfriday: I swear though, hair isn’t the only reason I’m looking forward to seeing him in other stuff. He’s just been… better in other things.

javabeans: True, and plus I don’t really think that’s a drama that speaks to subtle characterizations anyway. He’s better in complex roles, not the broad-strokes-anybody-could-play-em ones.

girlfriday: Well, a character with an arc would be a good place to start.

javabeans: Anyway, I’m glad said rounds doing promo for Scary Story 2 are not horror-movie-inspired, because I much prefer bubbles and soap mohawks to blood and terror. He should do bubbles and soap mohawks always.

girlfriday: Always and forever. The other shoot for Vogue with his co-star Lee Soo-hyuk, I don’t really get. I mean, they’re pretty. They look kinda depressed. And/or sleepy.

javabeans: Maybe when you have enough pretty, you don’t need a concept. *flips hair*

Gon has grown on me - his faces are hilarious. And at least he's not still sporting the Shag of Shame - but I really wish there was more TO him. We were all so excited! I mean, it's Sung Joon! And he's always so great! And they just kind of have him stand around trying to c***block Kang Chi whenever he can. At least he gets to be a Super Friend though, or whatever that group is called. Men of Honor. I like Super Friends better.

Gon faces of outrage are GENIUS.

I think he is going to have/having a character arc. He's going from self sacrificing shadow puppy who does what he's told - a wall- to a guy who is figuring out from his friend kang chi that he's going to have to get a stubborn will of his own. granted this process is slow. 1. loss- he will never have her and current life plan doesn't work. 2. i hate you KC but....i admire your spunk, consider you a bro, and will defend you. 3. realization that THAT'S what the ladies like...a boy with a mission and some stones and 4. finding something that he can have that same devotion/ drive for.

i see Chungjo having a similar epiphany about who she should be and ending up replacing SR as a "man" of honor when SR inevitably is killed doing the right thing. then gon and CJ can fall in love and "man" of honor together.

at least i hope that's what happens. LOVE SUNG JOON. going to listen to songs from flower boy band right now. damn that show was good.

If he dies, I will be very annoyed. Even though she does need SOMETHING for character growth, she'd be a nice person irl but at the moment (up to episode 13 here) she just feels a little too perfect and flat - having sword skills is not a substitute for backstory/character development.

I love Gon now. For a while it was iffy, but when they toned down the pettiness a notch I grew to like him.

I guess YW could take over or she could just take over her father's position as head of the school. I think he'll live. Though YW is due for some actual heartache since she pretty much has none compared to the rest of the cast.

My love and loyalty to LSG is keeping me optimistic but LSG and Suzy have NO chemistry. The most interesting thing about GFB is the women in the Kisaeng house.

JoAnne - I really don't. The drama is TRYING so hard to make it look like they do (all that close-quarters face touching/getting up close and personal), but it still feels artificial to me. At best, they feel like best buddies, but the spark just isn't there.

And I'm not comparing this to his previous pairings with Shin Mina and Ha Ji-won either, but like seriously, he and Sung Joon are more interesting to watch together (despite Gon's one-note vibe) than him and Suzy. And I doubt that that effect was intentional.

Totally agree that he is wasted in his Sword bearer role as Gon in Gu Family Book. His hairstyle is questionable and keeps changing... not necessarily flattering...Isn't he suppose to be the second lead?

Don't like the cig and unsexy old man boxer shorts photo..Isn't it a fashion magazine?

I really liked him in his previous dramas.

I think Sung Joon gave the bodyguard role a whole new meaning in dramaworld. I love his hilarious expression even in the most serious scenes. I don't know why, but even if Gon just stands there at the side, my eyes just flicker towards him. Like I can't help not noticing him.

I wish Yeo Wool would notice him (although I'm fully in the Kang Chi train).
