You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin: Episodes 27-28 [Open Thread]

After a lot of long hard deliberation, I decided to drop recaps for You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin after all. I’ve explained the reasons in previous recaps so I won’t belabor the point here; the short answer is that I’ve decided that this show isn’t the best use of my recapping time.

On the other hand, I do still like it and find little gems sprinkled throughout the episodes—not nearly enough, but they’re there. And I know you all probably would like to continue to have a place to talk about the show, even if we can’t provide full detailed recaps, so I’m opening up Sunday nights to Soon-shin Open Threads.

If I’ve got the time I’ll weigh in with some thoughts—I can’t promise weecaps or anything formal, but we’ll play this by ear. It’ll give me a chance to experiment with format as well.

The gist:

The parentage issue is out in the open, with not only Soon-shin finding out the truth but also the press. Mi-ryung ignores everybody’s entreaties, as is her wont, and leaks info to the media about Soon-shin’s identity. Soon-shin is furious and repeatedly tells her off, but Mi-ryung has the most virulent case of selective hearing I’ve ever seen in a drama, and does everything her way. She does it all with this absurdly wide-eyed look of innocence, too, which is the most shameless thing, I swear. She decides she’s going to take Soon-shin in and live with her and be the Best Mom Ever. I wonder if someone could tell her that she already earned the title Worst Mom Ever, so the most she could shoot for at this point is Mediocre At Best.

So now the press knows Soon-shin’s identity, which adds to everyone’s stress, except Mi-ryung’s because she laps it up with a grin, incredibly pleased with herself. I actually feel sorry for Yeon-ah, who finds herself totally shunted off to the side in Mi-ryung’s excitement to welcome her new toy daughter. But then I remember Yeon-ah was so smirky when Mi-ryung dumped Soon-shin the first time and figure she’s getting her karmic bite in the ass.

The reporters hound the mother-daughter duo for an interview, which Soon-shin is roped into doing. She makes Mi-ryung promise she’ll pull the interview from broadcast, but Mi-ryung tells them to go ahead and air it. When it does air, Soon-shin’s family is blindsided and hurt.

Highlights:

Young-hoon takes a proactive step in showing romantic interest in Soon-shin, beating Jun-ho to the punch. I can’t feel too bad for Jun-ho ’cause he’s the one dragging his feet and tripping over his words. And sometimes tripping over his feet and dragging his words.

Young-hoon asks Soon-shin out on a date (using the word “date”), then asks her to call him oppa or Young-hoon-sshi (instead of Manager). He takes her to a musical featuring Jun-ho’s talent, so Jun-ho is there and spends the whole show staring over at Soon-shin, upset because he tried to ask her to the show. But she ignored his call so he never got to ask.

Then he horns in on their coffee date afterward, literally squeezing past Young-hoon to claim his chair. Petty, petty. But I do like how he presses her to admit that she was envious of the actors onstage, and that she still wishes she could try acting. She denies it and Young-hoon tells him to lay off, telling her encouragingly that she ought to do what she wants. It’s what makes Young-hoon so cuddly and sweet in the moment, but ultimately wrong for her—he’s thinking of her temporary comfort and not her long-term regret. Jun-ho, on the other hand, is trying to get her to be honest with herself because that’s the only way she’ll be happy in the long run.

Bread Man is hilariously terrible at English, and yields to Bread Boy’s suggestion to motivate himself with the threat of forehead flicks. Only Bread Boy takes WAY too much enjoyment in doling them out, and Bread Man gets pissy. Then he asks Hye-shin for some help, and beams when she agrees.

Sadly, those are about the only highlights I have for this week, and they’re both in Episode 28 and occupy about five minutes in total. This good-to-tedious ratio is killin’ me.

Oh, on the upside, at one point Mom does utter these words to Chicken Ajumma: “How can you say that? Are you even my friend?”

Lowlights:

SO MANY lowlights.

Grandma is sickeningly sweet to Soon-shin, and openly says it’s because she’s blood family now.

Yoo-shin is really hard to take, and advocates “giving Soon-shin back” to her birth mom. Also, she carries on like Dad’s betrayal and Soon-shin’s existence is an affront to HER. Why is this all about her? Ugh.

She’s not terrible deep-down, and I do get why she’s so angry. It’s just, I shouldn’t have to dig so deep for rationalizations and explanations as to why she’s not a horrible person. I should maybe be able to see that from the way she lives her life. And yet here she is, screaming, “Send her away!” Poor Soon-shin, having chosen her adoptive family only to have them yelling at her to leave.

Yi-jung, bleh, starts wooing Chan-woo’s mother in her hopes of eventually winning him over with her deluded persistence. Chicken Ajumma assumes this is Chan-woo’s secret girlfriend and LOVES it. She tells Yoo-shin, who HATES it. Chan-woo asks her to take their relationship public with the parents so they can marry, and she yells at him and storms off angrily. Sigh.

Mi-ryung tries to buy off Mom, offering her a big envelope of money as “thanks” for raising her daughter.

Too much Chicken People and Mom and reporters and gossipy extras.

Too little Jun-ho.

Too little Young-hoon.

Too little cute.

It seems like the show veered off track completely. I was all set to watch a show with the two leads but instead I got family issues galore! This was not what I/we read in all the info they dished out about the drama. I feel like I've been hosed. Now I'm standing in the wind, drenched, and with a cold coming on. To hell with you show!

gonna go watch Community and drink cocoa.

It's funny to see how this show went from full episode recaps to two-in-one recaps to mini-caps. It pretty much sums up what happened to it. Like, less highlights and more birth secret = less recaps.

does this mean that you guys can recap I hear your voice? I'm not really demanding but HOPING (and subtly begging) for sure recaps of the show. I kinda feel that Girlfriday will have trouble staying away from the pretty, er, show. But I wouldn't mind (it would be GREAT) if you guys would officially recap it. Your recaps are one of the few things that I look forward to every week.
but anyway, whatever show you choose to recap would always be welcome and more power to you guys. thanks

Looks like everyone sings the same tune... Drama is losing me.
I'm sad when I read people who say that this is why they don't do long dramas: It's not the length, it's the writer. Good or bad, simple as that.
When it started, I honestly thought it had more potential than I summon you, gold! What do you know, oppa picked the good horse and I'm happy (more plot, events & cute in 20 eps of ISYG than in 28 eps of YTBLSS).

Is it just me or does anybody else think LSS is a whiny quitter.
Because if anybody offered to make me a star just to get back together with their exes I wouldn't mind.
Besides she pretty much lost the opportunity to prove herself as an actress/star. Because anything she achieves from now on will be credited to her "mom".
The only thing I like about her is her attitude toward LMS.
The obsession about blood relations really tires me out. I should have dropped this show ages ago. But it's kinda like the Obama administration, they keep giving you this tiny bit of hope of change.

Yes, I feel like she missed her chance too. No matter how good she becomes, her start will never be her own. But that's her fault for not starting again sooner, she's had plenty of opportunity. Her mom even gave her permission and said she'd support her.

I can understand her not restarting with JH's company. Because whether she knows it or not, the clues are there that she likes him. So the crushed crush is a semi-understandable reason. But she's had enough training now, that she could get in at a different company.

BTW *snicker *snigger at the Obama comment

I'm not even surprised by your decision...the show has been going downhill since ajumma makjang took over.
I may be shallow but I'm here mainly for the romance not for the bickering between almoni, Song Mi Ryung and Jung Ae (it reminds me, I can't even remember bread man's name). It's been this way since episode 19, I just can't withstand it anymore. If it wasn't for Jo Jung Suk, I would have dropped it a long time ago.
I should lower my expectations I guess, I thought they would focused more on Soon Shin's rise to fame, the OTP romance and their growth...I guess I was wrong. I of course expected some family issues (it's a family drama after all) but not as much as they're shoving at us at the moment.
Chicken ajumma has more screentime than Jo Jung Suk for God's sake!! (and she doesn't even appear on the promotion poster)
No seriously, I reached my limit...the show better pick up next week (by this I mean more romance, less makjang) or I might just rely on my fast forward option...

I loved this show... I really hate to admit it, but it might be dropping time, or at least skipping episodes until there are fewer low points. This show had so much potential, but is just lost in horrible bad family land. I feel bad for the actors, who took such promising characters and roles and now have to act so contrary to them!

Have not had a chance to watch episode 28 yet but I have seen 27.

One of my favorite parts of episode 27 was when Joon Ho showed up at Soon Shin’s house to save her from the reporters. He was her very competent white knight, which she, silly girl, did not appreciate.

She may have forgiven him for the bet but she no longer trusts him. These two seem to be drifting further apart rather then closer together. Shame.

The chicken momma is a waste of screen time.
Why is middle sister such an unpleasant person to EVERYONE? Chun U loves that prickly abrasive women; give that man a medal.

New format and forth dimension for the win!

I was excited when you decided to recap a weekend drama but sadly it is this one.

Although I love watching weekend drama, I do fast forward a lot because I tend to like side stories better than the main one. YTBLSS have so little side stories, I roughly watch about less than half of the drama. More Breadman and WooJoo moment please!

The problems I see in this drama are
1) too much focus on LSS birth secret plot
2) So little family love. I miss warm dad.
3) annoying characters rule the show.

1 highlight in Episode 27-- Joon Ho calls out two moms on the show and calls them selfish. I was screamed, "OMGAFT"

Though I about lost it on Mi Ryeong digging through LSS's closet when she was told no.

But the adoption storyline is both spent and done poorly. So I hope they pick up the romance again.

I actually started watching LSS from episode 20 after i saw my sister watching. She caught me up for all of the 19 episodes (19 hours) i missed. i really didn't miss anything. This kinda shows how slow the drama is and how much unnecessary details it has. I hope it really speeds up!

LOL I agree with so much here. You know, real storylines will result in less fast-forwarding, even if they aren't always cute. But when we have best friends that don't act like it -- Chicken Ahjumma seems to go out of her way to actually bring up the worst possible points to her friend Ae Jung. An old friend knows not to bring painful things up but to be there for them. If that is what she did it would work. But for some reason the writers continue to want to rework the same trite conflicts over and over again.

Yi Jung has been turned down numerous times, and yet she still keeps trying. Yeon ah told Jun Ho if you leave you'll never see me again... well we know that didn't last. Too many of the peripheral characters have become caricatures and it's frustrating. If not for Jun ho's hilarious cock-blocking of his hyung in episode 28 we would have continued to suffer. I have to admit 28 was much better than 27 but hoping that the writers will switch from the bickering mothers, self-centered granny, insincere friends like chicken ahjumma and chan mi, and Yi Jung and Yeon ah and go back for the cute relationships.

I have to agree with the commenter who said that Hye Shin was being a bit too passive. We really don't have resolution regarding her divorce, unless everyone is focusing on the birth secret right now.

Oh well, I'll keep watching ad probably FFing like everyone else. I'm too stupid to quit.

This show is dragging. I watched it because I thought it would be good. But it's now ep 28 and we're still mulling over family origins??? (other shows might already have their couples married, with 2 children already :p)

This show surely needs more love. Much much more.

With all the couples this show has (more than other shows that usually have 2 couples, this one has at least 3!!), this show shouldn't have that problem. But it does. It's lack of spice, lack of funny, lack of happy, and lack of sweetness (somehow I always feel depressed watching the episodes!). The show has regrettably spend their precious airing time to focus on all the wrong direction. Even the leading role is like a rock (and not in a flattering way), after 26 episodes, she doesn't change all that much, and doesn't look like someone who is willing to change her fate.

(and oh dear God how I am tired looking at that granny fainting -wait, let me revise: I'm tired looking at the entire family, especially when they share the same scene. They should just go out and interact with other people more often. Make your pick, Show: Bread man, the President, or the Doctor :p No Chicken Ahjumma, No Miss Song! Enough of that crap already!)

With so many lacks, I wonder, is it their first time producing a drama? Or have they change their script so often they forgot the story that they initially wanted to tell already (that, or their idea of the story really is that crappy)?

Hey Javabeans, thank you for all your hard work so far.

Also, I'm loving the new format. I think it works for this show. I have to agree that this show is the type where I sometimes hit the fast forward button because I really do not care what is going on. I just want them to get through this birth secret dilemma and get to the romance, but I also know that this will only bring on the SECOND birth secret problem (Soon Shin's real dad). Ugh!

Thanks for the recaps up to this point! I will probably keep on watching the show, but I would have liked a 20 episode version better. If it's going to be this long, I want to see more of the other sisters' relationships! I wonder if the focus on the older generation has to do with the ratings. I read an interview with IU where she discussed the lower ratings for the show and the age of people who make up the weekend drama viewer. I'm probably not the target audience, but I'll keep watching because I like the younger characters a lot, however I may do more fast forwarding from now on.

Ep 27-28: Another two episodes of anger exploding from YS on everyone, doofus girl stalking Chikn family, Bakerman just being silly, MR or Queen of Manipulation using her birth child as bait - Why? all cause of SS was rasied by a somewhat beastly family. Chikn mom is so irritating with her chihuahua voice I am about to bail on this series, because of her alone... The two leads SS & JH story, is so lost among all the other ridiculous & irritating characters, its hard to keep watching. As for keeping an open mind - writers need to get moving or cut this short at 30 eps, cause 50 eps of this wandering plot will close anybodies mind.

I have been watching this and in all honesty there isn't really enough going on to warrant a recap and I think this open thread is a great idea. I am happy they finally got the birth secret out but seriously can we get moving with the story already. I mean we are at episode 28 , more than half way through this drama and the only couple that somewhat got together is Chan Woo and the infuriating Yoon Shin (love Yoo Inna but her character is annoying). I mean I get that this is a family show and not solely about the OTP but at this far in the show if the OTP isn't together I would hope the peripheral stories would be further along so that the next 20 episodes we can finally get some development on the OTP front. I mean at this point we should have some admitting of feelings or awareness on both fronts because they still need to get together and the reprecussions of that (he is a ceo of her former company and there were already rumors about them) will need to be dealt with .

Also on that OTP front, I really hope that IU's nation's little sister role doesn't effect or isn't effecting how they portray the OTP's relationship ( I know she had a scandal with SUJU's Eunhyuk but she is still considered Nation's little Sister). Because I remember it was years before they let Moon Geun Young have a proper loveline with kisses and all due to her having the reputation of the nation's little sister.

Can anyone please recommend some good and fairly easy to find family weekend dramas that I can watch with my mother? She really enjoyed Lie to Me and Goong because of the family component in each (she's pretty much a huge YEH fan now). She lost her mother and father when she was younger so she really connects with storylines like those too (although not necessary). She doesn't like too much craziness or violence either...

I was hoping to watch Lee Soon Shin with her but so many people are complaining about it now. I heard Ojakgyo Brothers is really good but I can't really find it anywhere...

Thanks so much!

I don't know if these are weekend dramas, but you could check out Creating Destiny or Shining Inheritance. Both are around 30 eps and are family-oriented. In Shining Inheritance, the protagonist's mom is dead (she has a step-mom who kicks her out) and her dad is presumed to be dead.

If you don't mind shorter series, I would recommend Queen In-hyun's Man, Dalja's Spring, and A Gentleman's Dignity. These aren't really family-oriented but they're fun to watch for an older audience too.

OMG!!! I honestly haven’t been checking on this page as much as I’ve been the past weeks (hee…sorry but I’ve been sick the past couple of days—SJH withdrawal symptoms maybe?lol) coz I thought you dropped this drama (as this is the only drama I’m following right now) and to find this, especially when I least expected it, is like finding gold in the middle of the street! I totally loooooovvvveeeee you guys for doing this!!!

I am with everyone on the romance bit. Although I am probably one of the very few who don’t really mind the birth secret plot, I must admit what got me hooked on this drama is the chemistry between SJH and LSS. They really need to step up on it!!! I need my SJH/LSS fix reallllyyyyy baaaaaddddd!!!hahaha

Anyway, to finer points in the drama (sorry, I tend to overanalyze):

I love how SJH came and literally swept LSS away from the barricade of reporters. I just know later on, when LSS finds out SJH’s stand on the whole birth scandal release, she will be able to look back and see all this in a different light and finally realize SJH’s concern for her. SJH’s efforts to protect LSS so far are reaching everybody but her—mom, HS, breadman, SMR, YA, even YH—so it will be interesting to see how LSS will react to it once she finds out. Also, it gives him plus points from the family!hehe

When SMR asked SJH who he was working for, if it was for her or for LSS—and his response-- Stellar!!!lol I think it won’t be long before SJH lets go of SMR as his talent coz from a business aspect she has already done so much to be considered for a breach of contract. Okay, maybe that will just be his justification coz right now business-wise, SMR is the company’s moneybag but really, I just don’t think he’ll still be able to stand watching LSS getting hurt and used. In fact, I think he’s already passed his boiling point upon hearing of the SMR/LSS interview.

I’m still not convinced that YH is interested in LSS romantically. Most likely, he’s trying to extend his support knowing about LSS current situation, especially since it strikes a very familiar chord in his own life experience, and all this “dates” are just his way of cheering up LSS. I do agree though that both guys offer a healthy contrast regarding their approach on LSS. Still, not sure if it’s just because I’m such a huge SJH/LSS shipper, but I really don’t feel any chemistry between the two aside from the big bro-lil sis type. But it sure is fun to watch SJH’s reaction (and actions!) whenever he sees them together!

I also like to point out that, interestingly; LSS finds it difficult to stay mad at SJH. She gets crazy mad at him one minute, deliberately ignores him the next, and then we go back to her being casual while shooting those curious, vaguely wistful glances at him. Someone who changes her approach regarding a person this many times must have done A LOT of thinking about that person! lol

Finally, the show and after-show date! There’s just sooo many things I love about this scene (coz it’s the only scene in these two episodes that actually showed some cute!), but I try (hehe) not to be redundant so I’ll just mention what others haven’t pointed out yet.I totally felt SJH's heart drop when he found out that YH's date was LSS. Also, I love how SJH said after the show that it was enough to watch his talent’s showcase and he doesn’t need to have dinner with them—when all the time he was training LSS they always go out for dinner or whatnot! And right after that speech, HE asks LSS to have dinner with him!HA It’s just so cute how he tries to wiggle his way (figuratively and literally) into their date!lol

Okay, enough fangirling! Hahaha…seriously, this is how I stretch out 5-10 minutes of cute just to keep my sanity!lol Luckily, I am not so heavily invested with the rest of the pairings or subplots. Otherwise, my raving might fill a couple more pages!lol

I just read a couple of funny comments on the KBS site. One person suggested changing the drama name from "You're the best Lee Soonshin" to "You're the best Song Miryung." Indeed, the further we go with the episodes the more we see of SMR. I remember "King of Dramas" in which the famous actress Song Mina made the writer change the script to include more scenes with her. I wonder if Lee Misook, who's quite a high calibre and still appearing in a weekend drama' is flexing her influence muscles and turning this show into a one-woman show (plus some boring scenes with the Chickensons and hysterical women, young and old, just when she is too busy to be in every possible scene). Another comment was: "And finally, 30 min after the beginning of the show there's our male protagonist." Someone complained that A Eee U must be really busy because there are not many scenes with her. I think it's the actor who plays Junho who's really busy, or the PD or the director don't like him. For all the talk about live shooting and how Korean drama PD's wait for the audience's reaction, well, they are not doing it with this one. Every single comment in Korean blogs and on the official site is begging the writer to speed up with all three love lines, especially LSS and SJH, stay away from all the bad mothers, they are even saying "well, aren't you afraid that your ratings, already low for a weekend drama, will drop even lower." But, no one seems to be listening. The writer really needs to take some more creative writing classes. Why not go into the stories of Bread Man's past, Miryung's past, include more characters, more action. It's repeating same lines over and over again through the mouths of different people that is truly maddening. After we just saw the scene of MR offering the money, we have the scene in which the adoptive mom is telling this to the Chicken ajumma.
DUH! we just saw that. You really want me to switch to another channel. Anyway, the highlight in the last truly tedious episodes were a few minutes of Junho's jealousy and Soonshin's being flustered around him. Let's hope next weekend be more exciting. Jeongmal!

Exactly! Everything you said I agree with. Especially the last bit. Its the same thing being repeated over and over.. When will we ever learn about Mi Ryung's past?; who the father is, why she is behaving like a bitch, why she abandoned SS? And Bread Man too... Will we ever know why the guy went to jail? He is such a sweet and funny guy so the fact that he has a dark past makes us want to know MORE.

The writers are COMPLETELY forgetting who their main protagonists are. We are past the half mark in this drama and yet STILL no romance? Jun Ho is STILL chasing after Sun Shin even though the bet was like 10 episodes ago and is now feeling jealously even though he is STILL unaware of the feelings he has for SS? Sun Shin at this point doesn't even have time for a romance with JH with all the shit that is going down in her life. And I swear if like by episode 45 they start rushing their relationship, I swear imma take the first available flight to Seoul, walk up in the writers office and believe shit will go down!! No joke!!

But I'll give them credit for the love triangle that is starting to brew. Is it safe for me to predict that maybe, possibly, the latter THIRD (coz we're past 25 now) will turn into this 'who will get Sun Shins heart?' thing? I usually hate misunderstandings and twisty-turny love triangles but for some reason I am really enjoying this one. Maybe because we don't get enough screen time for JH and SS, so I literally giggle at everything? And I laughed so hard but yet felt so sorry at the same time for Jun Ho and his poor misunderstandings. PLEASE writers, make the SS and JH relationship the forerunners of this show again, because YATBLSS is starting to lose life. It started of so, SO well, but as soon as the 'I am not your mother' bomb was dropped on SS, it turned upside down.

:( Sad you're stopping recaps, but at least there'll be an open forum! That's better than nothing! Thanks. I know some people are stopping because the characters are unbearable, but I'm still gonna watch until the end. I thought I was the only one feeling like almost every character was being annoying in some war.
I don't hate YS, and I can understand why she's angry, but she's just being so....selfish. It's irritating. I feel real bad for SS. I mean, here she is choosing her adoptive family over MR, and YS just wants her out. I just feel like YS keeps making it about herself. And with Song Mi Ryung....I don't know what to say about her anymore. It's almost funny of how oblivious she is.
YES. Too little JH and SS. I can see JH trying(he needs to try a little harder than that however!!) I'm ready to see SS show some affection for JH, even if it's only a little. Too bad she doesn't wanna be near him. So, this is where we need JH to step in and win her over already. Soon Shin is a stubborn one. Because YH is doing much better than JH at the moment. And while I do love YH, I don't like him with SS.

And Jun Ho actually doesn't have a purpose in SS's life anymore because 1. he hasn't even admitted to himself that he likes her and 2. she doesn't work for him anymore.... YATBLSS writers.. WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU DOING?? Wake up! You're starting to ruin your characters!

That's what's been bugging me ever since she quit the company. I mean it was fine at first since she needed some time to cool down, but what now? I hoped they wouldn't turn Jun-ho into an awkward stalker, but that's exactly what he became =(. But at least it shows. Like he KNOWS he shouldn't be doing anything but he can't help but care but he can't do anything and somehow this all ends up leading to MORE SCENES WITH SONG MI RYUNG... /facepalm.

I think the writers dug their own hole there. I hope they know how to get out.

Here is my personal take on this drama :

Do the writers of this drama ask themselves these questions :

A. Do the viewers really WANT to watch a drama full of the worst women/moms on earth :

the moms-at-war-over-the-daughter,

or the bio-mom from hell,

or the mother-in-law-from-hell,

or the grandmother-from-hell,

or the hyena-sounding-Chicken-mom,

or the I-don’t-even-know-why-I-am-so-pissed-off-with-the-world-all-the-time-sister called Yoo Shin,

or the ex who unceremoniously dumped her man but then upon finding out his dad’s rich, did a 180-about turn and gave him an ultimatum that he won’t get to see her is he goes after LSS,

or the utterly loony, delusional and moronic can’t-get-into-her-thick-skull-that-the-guy-is-just-not-into-her character I don’t care to name,

or her saccharinely-sweet-mom-who-is-just-as-delusional-moronic-and-oh-so-clueless

or the person who is supposedly a friend to LSS but says the absolute worst things to say when she gushed over the fact that a supposedly big-name actress is LSS’s bio-mom, conveniently ignoring how LSS feels about that fact.

B. Do the viewers REALLY CARE about what happens to those characters such that so much screen time is given to them, more than what has been given to the OTP???!!!!

C. What EXACTLY do the viewers WANT from this drama?

I bet, we the viewers, can answer those questions.

ALSO

I wonder if the writers of YATBLSS think that they can pull off what the writers of My Daughter, Seo Young or the writers of Ojakgyo Brothers did?

After all, both dramas were weekend dramas and both touched on family issues including sibling issues like in Ojakgyo Brothers who had 3 brothers in the drama, like there are 3 sisters in YATBLSS now.

The writers of those dramas did fantastically well and both dramas became household names with the ratings going through the roof.

Sadly the writers of YATBLSS are no where near to being in the same league.

So, what in the name of all that is holy have the writers done to such a promising drama??!!

Is there light at the end of this excruciatingly-painfully-long-and-dark tunnel the writers and PDs have created for us and themselves?

I remain hopeful...

wow, you just took words out of my mouth. You listed all the characters I am pissed at and that make no sense: Mom, Grandma, annoying Ex GF, annoying sister 1 (Yoo Shin), annoying sister 2 (JH's sister) and her mother, annoying manager of MR and MR herself, Chicken Ajumma, SS's friend and sometimes even Soon Shin annoys me. Her character has been very passive aggressive in the last few episodes and has been moping around. I can't seem to connect to her anymore. The only people I haven't been pissed at yet is Hye Shin and Bread Man, but nothing has happened between them still, so I am about to get pissed at them too.
The writers completely forgot they can show people's past. We still have no idea about bread man, mi ryung and other pretty important characters. What about the cafe's boss? I wish I knew more about him, he seems to be the second contender for SS's heart, is he not? We also don't even know much about JH either. The few things we know about him, we learned in like the first 5 episodes. After that it has been the same story OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Enough with the birth secret! This storyline should have been over 10 episodes AGO!
I LOVED Ojakgyu Brothers and I, unfortunately for me, went into this drama with the same high expectations. Needless to say I was big-time disappointed. What I am surprised at, is that this drama still holds such high ratings. At this point I am going to call YATBLSS an overrated drama with a lot of hype and no substance. I officially quit it on episode 28.

Wow! YOU took the words out of my mouth! :)

I totally, absolutely, 100% agree with everything you said esp abt LSS being made into such a passive-aggressive character that she comes across as practically spineless it is a CRIME!

The fact that LSS passively and silently DID NOT SAY NO to be in the out-of-the-blue-face-to-face interview with her bio-mom, then later walked off in a huff (the aggressive part of her character) and asked her bio-mom NOT to air the interview??!! How does one go from being a mindless, timid, mute zombie to a huffing-and-puffing Sheba in a blink of an eye? *jaw-dropped-facepalm*

I so want to be behind LSS all the way but the writers have turned her into a joke, while Jun-ho has just become a shadow of his charismatic self except for mere seconds of cuteness when LSS is within his eyeshot....siiiiigghhh...

I agree with you that if not for Jo Jung Seok the actor, I would not even care much for Jun-ho because he has, as Javabeans said so aptly and beautifully, been tripping over his words and dragging his feet, and tripping over his feet and dragging his words so much that I am fast losing patience with him. And IT IS ALL THE WRITERS AND PDS FAULT!!!

If the YATBLSS writers and PDs continue to be deaf and ignorant to the ever-louder protests on their terrible work and the suggestions on how to improve on their work, then be prepared to be left with NO MORE VIEWERS faster than they can say, "Wait!"

For the sake of my sanity, and love for the OTP, I am going to remain hopeful for the light at the end of this senseless tunnel... :(

Or maybe the writers have personal issues with their moms, grandmas, sisters, female colleagues, that they might be thinking this when they decided to do what they did to the drama :

"Why not we throw EVERY SINGLE GROUSE we have about those people into YATBLSS and see how the viewers will react?? Shall we?? Shall we??"
*rub their hands in glee*

Well throw everything (except for the kitchen sink) at us they did, and we all know how the past, oh, 15 or so episodes have turned out, right?? *facepalm*

Officially dropping this drama!!! Wanted to drop it last week after 26, sealed deal after this week. Like everyone already said, it's really not worth it to sit through hours of boring stuff to wait for jun Ho to appear on screen. I don't even mind jun Ho on his own... Basically anyone other than mi ryung and crappy mother, grandmother, sisters, friend... I was so in love with this show just a few weeks ago. What happened to the writers? Hope there's a dramatic drop in ratings to wake them up. Lee mi sook is good, but watching a psycho woman on screen for 2 hours per weekend is really not our idea of spending time well!

wow!!! all comments only show how cheated the viewers are...

The birth secret story line is not yet done. 1st 25 episodes were wasted on birth secret-mother, and the last 25 episodes will be wasted on birth secret-father. Great!!!!

Due to viewers demand, this show will now be titled:
THE BIRTH SECRET OF LEE SOON SHIN

everyone, clap your hands!!!!
