Im Joo-eun cast as teacher in Heirs

Just when I thought the cast was finally (but also way in advance) set for Heirs with the last announcements, we get MORE. Specifically, one more with the addition of Im Joo-eun (Arang and the Magistrate, What’s Up, Hon). Will this drama never stop casting? Will it just be an endless revolving door of Who’s Who in It Girl/Guy Land, the K-Drama Version?

I am happy to hear of a charismatic and commanding actress to balance out the bunch, because thus far the guys have far outnumbered the ladies. Boo hoo, I’m sure we’re all thinking, poor Park Shin-hye and Krystal, surrounded by all the beautiful mens. How dire.

Im Joo-eun will play a teacher at Empire High School (lol at that name), the school for the uber-rich and future famous kids of this privileged world. She is both chic and heodang, looking cool and collected on the outside while being slightly awkward in real life. The character earns the favor of the Empire Group chairman for her sharp intelligence, although she actually “knows how to do nothing other than study.” So more nerd, less perfect genius?

Because it must be mentioned: Yeah, there’s some weird math going on with the ages, but you know what, I’m just gonna ignore the whole thing. Im Joo-eun is technically old enough to be a teacher at 25, but let’s not try to work out how she’s actually a year younger than series lead Lee Min-ho in real life. I’ll just consider this Hollywood-style casting, where they cast 28-year-olds to play 16-year-olds and it’s part of the fantasy. If I can go with part of the fantasy, I can go with all of it, right?

(Wait, wait. I’m having a thought… Does this mean Choi Jin-hyuk—who plays the 31-year-old Empire Group president—can have an age-appropriate love interest? THIS SOLVES EVERYTHING.)

Im Joo-eun made a splash in her debut drama role with 2009’s Hon, where she played a possessed high school student. She earned tons of buzz for that, but has sort of not capitalized on that initial response with her follow-ups. I hope she gets the chance to shine again here.

Heirs airs in October on SBS.

I loved Im Joo Eun in What's Up!
She feels pretty young/on par with the cast so far to play their teacher, though.

I'm also ignoring everyone's real life ages, because what's the point? I'll still check this drama out, and probably watch it, because a lot of my favorite actors/actresses are in it.

Personal feelings: a waste of talent> She should have her own show. Not that I'm watching this anyway but I really don't get what her management is thinking.
