Yeon Woo-jin headlines omnibus drama Secret Love

The director of That Winter, The Wind Blows, PD Kim Kyu-tae, is departing from the standard drama series format with his next project, taking an omnibus approach for a five-episode drama titled Secret Love. Billed as a romantic melodrama, the short series will feature five separate segments told with a “fairy-tale-like sentimentality,” with each part exploring a separate emotion-filled love story.

Thus far we’ve only got news on one of those parts, titled “I Miss You” and starring Yeon Woo-jin (When A Man Loves, ARang and the Magistrate). He’s a promising actor with a lovely groundedness to his acting and capable of emotional vulnerability—he always feels present in his roles—so I’m happy to see him taking on leading roles, even if this one’s just a one-episoder. He plays a photographer who’s an emotionally supportive boyfriend to Han Seung-yeon, idol-actress of girl group KARA, and the two are featured in a “heartbreaking love story” with a time travel theme.

I can’t say I’m excited about the time travel bit—that was so last year, literally—but this director has an artistic eye and can produce beautiful and melancholy work, so I expect Secret Love to be rich in visual splendor. (Other credits on PD Kim’s resumé: Padam Padam, The World They Live In, A Love To Kill.)

No word yet on when or where this will air, but I expect more news shortly.

The good: Five episodes, Yeon Woo-jin. The bad: time travel, idol actress. Undecided.

I read that apparently the five-episoder is going to air during the Chuseok holiday week.

Yeon Woo Jin, Ji Chang Wook, Bae Soo Bin, Lee Kwang Soo and Kim Young Kwang are the male characters of each episode.

Not bad thank you. Glad to see Bae Soo Bin's name attached to a project, even a short one.

I know. I don't have high expectations of the special series, but I do look forward to getting glimpses of the male leads.

When we BSB fans read about the news of this Kara (I nearly wrote Kiara there, just kidding) project in early June, we were glad to learn that he'd be appearing in a drama on TV - at last, after two long years! - but sad that it will only be for one episode. After shooting this, BSB has another project to focus on - getting ready for his wedding in September :)

I like the man: One heck of a good actor. At least he is not jobless... But he deserves better than this.

Didn't Seungyeon get A LOT of criticism for her "acting" in Jang-Ok? Although that never stopped Kim Tae Hee I guess.

Pass on this one.

Korean netizens were commenting that KTH (and Suzy) look like acting goddesses compared to Seung Yeon. She was pretty awful in JOJ. Even though I'm a big Kara fan, I never want Seung Yeon to act again.

She had a realistic insidious smile in JOJ. That was good.

At least cast an idol who can actually act. :(

Thanks JB! So, based on the article, YWJ will only be in one episode, right? (and JB called it "an episoder").

I loved the visuals of Padam Padam and A Love To Kill/TWTWB, so at the very least this drama will LOOK gorgeous. And I will take some leading-man status for Yeon Woo-jin over nothing, even with the episoder status and idol actress.

that regardless of seung yeon's abilities this drama is a KARA drama, so all of them will be there.. it's not like the other ones are all that amazing.. i heard ji young is terrible too.

I think all of the segments of this drama are using a member of KARA as the leading actress. Its like a KARA drama.

I really like him as an actor. He was excellent in the other drama special he was in. I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Yeon Woo-jin was the character of the youngest brother in "Ojakgyo Brothers" (maybe this is the role you are thinking of) a role which I found quite endearing. When I watched his acting in "Arang & the Magistrate" I was quite impressed with his portrayal of the conflicted character of Joo-Wal.

Glad to know that he is taking leading role. I love him since Arang and the Magistrate, then became my reason to watch When a man loves. But too bad the drama is disaster, so i dropped it halfway. Some short drama i watch recently are good... So I hope it will be good as well.

Maknae opppa~ Since it just for short drama maybe i will watch it. So this will be on KBS/SBS?

I'm not sorry to skip your previous drama coz of the leads that shall not be named. I hope to see you more in the future.

I thought the 5 episode drama was to promote each 5 members of KARA in 5 separate episodes. Basically, it's a idol drama that promotes KARA.

I really like him!! He was kind of the one reason I kept watching When A Man Loves as long as I did, but sadly (happily?) I still dropped it, LOL.

He's cute but there is also something sexy about him. I like this mix! It's a nice mix.

LOL I agree, even though he kinda has a cute look to him, he's got the intensity and charisma of a real man. LOL

Oh. I didn't realize this was a KARA-centric drama. This sucks. I'm not a fan of idol actors/dramas...UGH. And I was so excited by the news of Yeon Woo Jin and unconfirmed of Kim Young Kwang and Kwang Soo... :(

"He plays a photographer who’s an emotionally supportive boyfriend to Han Seung-yeon''

LOL On the 4 episodes short ''Ordinay love'' he played also a photographer.....

He did good there, and he also did good as the gay lover on Friends short movie!

I hope they stop giving second bitchy guy roles... he is talented

I started a forum over on Soompi. You can find all the news and gossip over there!

Yes, I'm going to suffer through this, only for the opportunity to see My Precious on the small screen again. What I don't do for that boy. *sheesh*

The title of the drama is named after KARA song and there's 5 episodes to represent each member's story.

I like that this is only 1 episode per story. No heavy commitment. At least if it's become so bad, I won't regret my wasted time so much.

YWJ, lovely-talented actor.. So happy I would see him again, soon, in dramaland as leading man. He fits and deserves to be a leading man.
But, only 1 episode? Argh! Why? Uhh, 1 ep better than nothing, eh?

KARA's company is doing their job right, for getting this project.
The omnibus dramas' male leads are all high profile actors!

I quite like the KARA girls ( I think Gyuri is better actress of them all ), so I guess I will watch these dramas later.
