Cute, romantic teaser for time-traveler Mi-rae’s Choice

Interesting—the upcoming time-travel KBS drama Mi-rae’s Choice (also translated Future Choice) looks a lot more cute and light-hearted than I was anticipating. With just the description to go on, I’d presumed it would be mostly dramatic as Yoon Eun-hye is somehow confronted by her older self, who finds a way to travel back to her thirtysomething version to warn her about her future. As in, don’t marry Lee Dong-gun. (And I’m wondering, why the heck not? I hope there’s a good reason that doesn’t involve him being a serial killer or lowlife.)

In the whimsical trailer, we see Mi-rae (Yoon Eun-hye) mulling over her dilemma: Lee Dong-gun is “the man I want to love,” but Jung Yong-hwa is “the man I have to love.” I’m a little puzzled since wouldn’t you want to end up with the guy you want to love, not the one you feel you ought to? Ah, well I’m sure the show will answer that in due course. At least Mi-rae knows it’s hardly the worst problem in the world to have, as she smiles and the caption tells us, “It’s a happy choice and dilemma.”

Then Choi Myung-gil shows up as the 2043 version of Mi-rae and the question becomes “Who is the heroine dealing with this happy problem?” Both ladies wrestle to claim the remote control (cute metaphor) and wonder, “Me?” Haha. I do hope that is a metaphorical representation of the conflict and not that we’ll actually have them fighting over who gets the right to drive the Mi-rae bus, because doesn’t that defy the laws of time and space or something?

In any case, while I hadn’t been thinking that Mi-rae’s Choice would be in the romantic comedy vein, I won’t be disappointed in the least if that’s what we get. I have yet to see Jung Yong-hwa come alive in any of his acting roles (which is funny since he’s much more engaging as himself, I think), but I’m looking forward to watching the sparks fly between Yoon Eun-hye and Lee Dong-gun. I’ll be crossing my fingers that the show can deliver on the tone of this preview—comedic, bright, and a little dreamy.

Mi-rae’s Choice will follow Good Doctor on Mondays and Tuesdays, premiering October 14.

It's a good thing Mi Rae's choice isn't a choice between warning herself about the guy or warning herself about the hairstyle, 'cause that'd be a tough decision... :D

I like YEH best when she plays unconventional characters-- this looks very promising.

Wonder if that's the stylist's idea of a good/flattering hairstyle on YEH or if it is intentionally unflattering in order to align w/ YEH's character (her "boyish" cut in "Coffee Prince" was much better than this monstrosity).

But really, what is it w/ Korean hair stylists and PERMS (for both the girls and guys)?

Some Koreans have naturally curly/wavy hair. You might not think it, but many East and South Asians do.

Beyond that humans want what they can't have.

I believe she's wearing that hair for her character, just like she had her hair cut short for CP. If your eyes can't stand it then don't watch. Easy.

That hair is very common here where I live. Blonde and curly. Not that terrific but it doesn't deserve a hateful reaction either.

I was just about to post that. I couldn't even focus on the trailer as much, because I kept staring at the hair, wondering WTH. It's like the bowl cut of poverty that some of these dramas like to use. Now we have the perm of confusion??

Why do these coordinators always stay in the box. Poor, nerdy girls have good hair as well, just saying.

i was just complaining how early 2013 was rather dull in k-dramaland and now we can't find the time for all the upcoming premiers this fall.
Why couldn't they have just spread all these k-dramas out? Now DB writers are going to pull their hair out from recaps and lack of sleep.

JB, that's what you've got minions for!

Mar - I haven't forgotten the drama drought of the first half of 2013, after FBND ended (for me anyway, I know not everyone liked even that) and then there were months of shows that started out entertaining but then devolved into things that became a chore to watch (That Winter, Gu Family Book).

It was SUCH a relief when May brought Monstar, and then IHYV came along. Though now, between weekdays and weekends, we're totally saturated!

That sounds like a spin on the plot to the movie "Peggy Sue Got Married". Not a close spin mind you, just in the same generally story family. It's about a middle aged woman who goes back in time to her teen years and basically has an opportunity for a "do-over" where she can make different choices than the ones she made.

There was actually a Korean movie with that same premise called Project Makeover. It was a rom-com and generally pretty cute with some heartwarming moments.

0

That's exactly what I was thinking - she gets a "do-over" at love and tries to break up with Nicholas Cage's character... but love has it's way of winning in the end. I love Peggy Sue Got Married so much I bought it :) Looking forward to this but hoping Yong-hwa wins the girl!!

I'm so excited to see this drama :) Yoon Eun Hye is my favorite K-actress and the story looks promising.

She looks adorable in a dorky way with her frizzy hair, but I heard that she will change it in the latter part of the drama for a more ''normal'' hairstyle. I'm perfectly fine with her current hair and I know that YEH must've permed it to fit with her character. It's not supposed to be pretty and stylish but I've noticed that a lot of people were complaining about the hair saying that they couldn't stand it. When I watch dramas, I tend to focus more on the character's personality rather than their physical appearance so the curly hair doesn't bother me ;)

Thanks for repeating this, Juby - if I had a dollar for every complaint about this character detail, I would be a rich man, instead of just one irritated at how many people are fixating on a clear marker of her character's current state and future transformation.

Not interested in this sort of time-traveling genre where the purpose is to fix past personal mistakes rather than for some life-and-death stakes. Plus, Eun-hye's hair is just awful. Really waiting for her to come back in a good project since Coffee Prince.

Hair-larious. I'm totally loving the crazy hair. On account the last time she went rad with the hair, this thing called Coffee Prince happened, right?

Anyhoo, just when I said I am ONLY going to commit to Heirs because of worrying about my coursework, this has to show up on DB to make me think, okay maybe I have to watch this.... ARGH. I am not really familiar with Trotwood's Smoulder Shoulders and he does not look like my cup of tea but I will have to try this drama out, even if I cannot keep up with it as it airs.

Regards wanting to love vs. have to love, I do not think that is a foreign concept to a lot of people, I think it is quite common to want to be someone but know that there are issues -whatever they maybe- and then turn your affections to someone else that works for you on a needed level. Also people commit to choices, and even though they might make other choices were it not for already making that commitment. That's also a situation of "having" to love.

Two things about YEH as an actress:
- She doesn't usually go for "pretty" in her dramas, except maybe Goong which was out of her control. Otherwise, she tends to do things like pretend to be men, scrub around on a farm/ be poor, or play a fashion victim so she's rarely looking her best. She is definitely not afraid of being seen in an unattractive light.
- She appears to have had little to no plastic surgery. Her teeth are still crooked, her cheeks are still rounded, and she doesn't need circle lenses to make her eyes look normal. Yes some actresses are naturally beautiful, but most go to the same plastic surgeons as all the other celebrities and end up looking like the lovely sister of every other lovely woman out there.

I'm not going to say she's the next Sarah Bernhardt but I do applaud her physical honesty. And if you want to see her do the pretty, conventional or otherwise, look at her modeling gigs.

We've always wanted credibility in acting and this is precisely what she is doing. I am sure we are a bunch of reasonable individuals who will---I hope not---not forego watching a drama just because we don't like the actress's coiffure?!

Okay, I'm going to be totally honest with you and say that I actually couldn't watch Wild Romance because I thought Lee Shi Young's wig (?) was so horrendous. (Also the premise of the show sounded boring.) But more so, I hated her hair so much that it was all I could focus on. (And I really like Lee Shi Young!) But hair is a pretty big deal for me personally so what can I say? I acknowledge that that is horrid and shallow but it is the truth. On the bright side tho, that show was apparently terrible so it seems like I didn't miss out.

I don't think the perm is a bad look for Yoon Eun-Hye though so it doesn't bother me here.

Wow, I didn't even recognize Yoon Eun-Hye at first with that hairstyle! She looks so young in this teaser like she could play a high schooler and get away with it. I think it's her mannerisms too - she seems a little childish. Perms usually age people but they make her look younger - how strange.

Still this actually does look really cute. I wasn't paying much attention to it before but if you guys pick it up or have a good impression of it, I might give it a try. I'm not sure how I'll find the time though with so many potentially promising new shows starting soon. Although like Mirae, that's a good problem to have, I suppose.

Here's the BTS video of photoshoot for FC's poster. All 3 leads (YEH, LDG & YH) have had a cute interaction, especially YEH & YH :D

I am so exstatic about lee donggun's comeback. Old habits die hard. I loved him back in the day and still feel the same way today.

Even cooler is the fact that he's paired up with yeh. Even if they have zero chemistry offscreen, I hope that the seasoned actors that they are can just turn it on when the cameras are rolling. :)

I love the 2 male leads!! Can't wait for this! I hope this is Yeh's comeback to gd drama list cos her recent dramas is really disappointing and she's a great actress!

I agree. I can get used to the hair; but it would been much better if she didn't have the bangs.

Both Leading Men could pass off as brothers. Isn't that amazing? Haha :)
