How can watching badminton be so thrilling? After watching Cool Kiz now I wanna play badminton :)

I haven't watched that but great dramas make you like the most unusual things! Like how I wanted to fight corrupt politicians after watching City Hunter, and how I wanted to be an idol (I'm not even a Kpop fan) after watching Dream High and You're Beautiful! :))

whoa, another fan of Cool Kiz.
that show is really amazing. if not because my parents decided to stop our home's pay tv, maybe i still watch now.
i sometimes watched it (while other family member didn't watch tv) and i amazed by how they can make a not really mainstream sports (like pingpong and bowling, well i'm not include badminton since it's one of our country's favorite sport because many amazing badminton athletes come from Indonesia) become so thrilling. and because that show, i know more about Changmin and he's truly a hardworking guy (before watched the show, i just know him as TVXQ's maknae who can hit higher note than many kpop idols)

When it's filled with cute guys. XD

Come on, I had my eyes filled with:
-Nichkhun, whom I already knew beforehand was good at badminton, and was training to be an instructor at LA before he was scouted
-Chansung, who sucked from the start, since I also knew he was a taekwondo kiddo way back High Kick/Hot Blood days
-John Park, the lovable derp and his expressionless, well, face; and also his adorbs partnership with Hodong
-FeelDog, (real name Oh Gwang-seok) which introduced me in BIGSTAR, and made myself bias the leader XD plus his abs are a delish...got a treat when they were at Taereung...
-Ji-hoon...our Ji-hoonie~ he's getting so popular these days...who knew he majored in Physical Education and had already gone to the army so there's no need to be worried...
-Lee Jong-su (Park Dae-su in "Yi San"), who I must admit formed a rather formidable team with Changmin (known as the "Two Wins" duo); no, honestly, they're in sync, even though I want to forget that they lost a match and broke their record...
-Hyun-joong & Dongjun, fillers for Changmin...don't have much to say, so meh...

But anyways, even though I'm enthralled watching, I won't try badminton, since from elementary I always sucked at it. XP

I told myself I only have time to keep up with one variety show -- and I've been pretty faithful to Running Man since I discovered it last summer -- but then my love for Changmin and a free afternoon led me to watch one episode of Cool Kiz, and, well, now I've watched almost all of the badminton episodes and am really sad that most of the members will be leaving soon, even though I knew nothing about FeelDog, Ji-hoon, or Lee Jong-su before this. (Also, I discovered that I love watching Nichkhun play badminton. He just makes it look so effortless.) I'm afraid I may be hooked now, with no escape...

I've been pulled into the variety show black hole as of late - Running Man, Mama Mia, Happy Together, Hello Counselor, Immortal Song 2, Hwasin, Global Request: A Song For You, Cool Kidz, We Got Married, Star King, Barefoot Friends - it's a serious time sucker upper. It's funny how the celebs/stars rotate and show up on several at the same time. I heard that YG (and probably the other entertainment giants) have put pressure on their idols/stars to promote themselves and their groups more aggressively, so this may be the result we are seeing. Add my dramas and ~ yep, I'm addicted now for over a year, almost a year and a half.

The badminton episodes are so much more fun than previous episodes in part 'cos of the combination of members works (Lee Ji Hoon, Feeldog, Chansung, John Park et. al.). Lee Ji Hoon is really going places after School 2013. He should be a permanent member - after all he's the only one who majored in Physical Ed as the captions always say :) And Feeldog - never knew who he was before this but he's so cute. Am liking John Park too the more I see him. He looks like a nerd but he's confident, laidback with a positive attitude - he's kinda cool really.

Hello beanies!

How are you guys?
Life in China continues. I am waiting for an accident to happen in the crossing on my way to work. Note to self: red doesn't mean stay nor go, and neither does green. Chinese traffic is crazy! There is no other word for it.

My kids are lovely though. So cute! And still loving the free food from the kindergarten, its what gets me by being broke. Cannot wait for payday so I will have my own food again. Oh and my work place is apparently sending us to Beijing! Great wall here I come!

The traffic and smoking inside is not doing me good though..

Dramaland:
Master's sun: he remembers! I still need to watch episode 15 though, and trying to avoid spoilers.

Suspicious housekeeper: seen almost the first episode and liking it so far. This seems like it could be a fun ride.

Yamade-kun, need to watch episode 7.

So glad you're having fun there. I guess you'll get the hang of traffic soon. As long as you don't threaten the pedestrians.

I have to catch up on Yamada-kun as well. If you like Suspicious housekeeper...maybe i'll try it. thanks.

Haha I can't drive (to scared of it to even get my license). So I am a pedestrian, and let me tell you, that traffic is defintively a threat to non drivers!

I've only seen almost all of the frst episode of Suspicious housekeeper so far, and it looks interesting. Withoulding further judgement until I've seen more though.

Hi Manin! -

Good to hear from you!

The traffic situation sounds very dangerous. Please be very careful. Glad the students are great and that you'll have the chance to go to Beijing.

Regarding the smoking, I don't know what to tell you since they smoke inside (Unbelievable!). If you have an office or cubicle, and you spend some of your day in there, perhaps a filter of some sort would help. I don't even know if this is allowed or possible, but maybe.

Glad you can watch dramas though!

Hi Manin,

Where are you living in China? I used to live in Shanghai and I know the traffic can be really crazy. Have you just arrived in China?

I have just finished writing my book about my experience of living in shanghai. Do check it out on my site livinginshanghaiDOTnet (pls addd the triple www infront), I think DB block website addresses, so I have to write it this way.

Personally sans the pollution, I dont mind Beijing, they have good bakeries.

Take care!

Dramas and dramabeans are okay thank god , what should I do without it?!

Yeah smoking inside is soo bad It's okay in the kindergarten though, only the smog effecting me there. Though I sometimes wish I would qualify for an inhalator just to help me along. It's worse any other place where people smoke inside!

Traffic is a nightmare. I feel like it's the daily risk having to cross that street every time I go to and from work. So glad I only have one crossing though!

Required fields are marked *

Happy to hear you are okay Manin. You still have dramas at least. Think of the traffic as being in a dance. Sideways, back, step, pull back..for drivers, red is go, yellow is go faster, green is stop. As pedestrian, think accordingly.

just watch it,,Matsushima Nanako who plays in jap ver is one of decent actress,,and it looks robotic because she has to,,it's her character concept..

0

yes, try it.
Matsushima Nanako is not robotic. She is stoic. And scary. And but somehow cute.
The Korean housekeeper I would not call directly as cute.
But I'll probably watch both versions.

0

K!! I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the advice!

Do you ever really grow to like the housekeeper? Or does she always remain a bit distant?

0

I also find the japanese housekeeper both psycho and cute. but for the japanese, eevrything has to be cute anyway, even poop.

0

cute poop???? :-) ((( laughter )))
your soo right. Japanese dramas are sometimes (or often) so crazy. But that does not matter.

Hey, found a new word to describe that: CURAZY (cute+crazy). :-)

0

curazy is a good word.

or "kawacko" (kawaii + wacko)

0

'kawacko'.... like it ....:-) sounds more japanese than 'curazy'

I was a little peeved she was way too robotic(in movements) to the point where it was a bit forced and unrealistic, too. But i'm getting used to it and actually really enjoying the show for what it sets out to deliver. There's alot of potential for some really good, heart warming stuff.

How did you like it? Sorry for it being an expencive country :p

Yes really :). Haha you shouldnt apologize for something beyond your control! I ate lots of tinned mackerel in tomato sauce. No other mackerel has ever tasted as good since!

I went to tromso. Then down to stamsund then flew to bergen and then took the train to oslo. I was earning british pounds then so it wasnt painful for me :).

Enjoy your year in china. It must be hard adjusting. Its hard for everyone in a new place. Hope you wont take too long to adapt.

0

I LOVE tinned mackerel in tomato sauce! We used to call it (morbidly) "plane crash" because the tin was a long rectangle, and the fish chunks and sauce....
Norway is expensive, but surely is a treat, I intend to return "one day".

0

Me too! I hope to bring my mom and dad there one day. It wasnt expensive for me coz i was using youth hostels. The one in stamsund was truly gorgeous and had won the best YH in the world the year before. It was situated by a bay and had mountains behind it. Managed by a guy named roar who was a dead ringer for gererd depardieu!!

People would go fishing middle of the night and bring back lots of cod to share with everyone and to freeze for the year. It was really good

FOR SHORTFILM-FANS!!!
Someone here who like short films??

There are again “GOING UNDERGROUND” – the short film festival in the subways of Berlin and Seoul.
In the underground, you can watch cool short films. This is really great. I do not like those stuffy crowded subways. But at the moment I like the subwayride. :-)
My favorite shortfilms are “Dream” and “The Rush Hour Of The White House” (Oh my girls - can it really be true??? Are we really so????).
But the movies are all really good. And so different.
So if you like – here you can see the mini movies on the net: www-goingunderground-de (( use . instead of -))

Hello everyone!! I love both Japanese and Korean dramas. Thanks to DB, I got the chance to interact with the K-drama fans. But in this open thread, I want to talk about Japanese dramas. I’d like to know if there is other J-drama fans here like me and share my views with them. These are the dramas I watched and loved this year-
1.Hanzawa Naoki: Simply brilliant. It definitely deserved the high ratings. This drama reminded me why and how I became a fan of J-dramas.
2. Soratobu Kouhoushitsu: Sweet, romantic, informative, inspiring and engaging. The cast was exquisite and I haven’t seen such great acting from all the actors in a drama in a long time. I wish it weren’t so underrated. This drama surely deserves more love and attention.
3.Saikou no Rikon: Funny. Entertaining.
4.Woman: Heartwarming. Inspiring.
5.Kazoku Game: Interesting. Unorthodox. Gripping. Mysterious. But I haven’t been able to finish it yet as the subtitle is not complete.
6.. Kasuka na Kanojo: Another ghost drama of the year. However it focuses on solving issues with schools and students instead of crimes. It was a bit cheesy at time but overall pretty good.
5.Galileo 2: Not as good as the 1st season but it wasn’t terrible either.

Anyone excited about the upcoming drama Ando Lloyd - A.I. Knows Love ? I can’t wait!!

Hanzawa Naoki is just brilliant: I'm fan of Sakai Masato for life. HN has just finished and Legal High 2 starts soon... I'm spoiled and I like it. ^^
I'm also waiting for Ando Lloyd. This should be fun, at least until the end: I want the human to get the girl cause he deserves it, not just because he is human... (Zetai Kareshi, I'm looking at you).

The Berkshires is postcard beautiful small town New England. I love living here.

it's a romcom with probably the most cutest child adult ever.
well su jinie might give her a run for her money.

One litre of tears is a weepy one.
I don't watch them as a norm but in this case, I made an exception since I heard it was great nd based on a true story.
I cried buckets but I don't regret it

0

And my boss my hero is wackiest of wacky. I was either ROTFLMAO or hitting my head due to their sheer stupidity but it has some heartwarming moments too.

0

Sorry I didn't mean zenkai girl was weepy....i meant 1 litre of tears was....that's why zenkai girl was on my radar and not 1 litre of tears...

Hey I guess it was a typo. Not a big deal.
go.....watch it.......and then try forgetting the kids.

LOL! Don't worry - we've all done that at some point I think. Looking back there are probably a few dramas where I wonder why I stuck around till the end.

[hanging head in shame] I watched it to the end too.

Although, in my defense, I have both the Starman movie with Jeff Bridges, and the Starman series (USA) starring Robert Hays.
I had hoped the JDorama would be similar but, sadly, no.

Wait a sec - there are ENGLISH versions of this?? I thought it was a japanese original!!

0

it wasn't bad! come on. It's not that it was bad. It was just...small.

If Starman hadn't taken the side trip into replacing the personality of the leading man, I would have said it was OK. It was worse than amnesia as a plot device.

I just finished watching the first episode of 'Pin to Kona' which is listed as a Korean drama on Gooddrama.net but in fact it is definately Japanese since it is about high school guys who want to be Kabuki actors. Since I miss watching Kabuki, I actually enjoyed the first eps. I guess it has more depth in characters than those in Yamada kun. I must admit I simply watch Yamada kun for the sake of fun. Though Yusuke Yamamoto is not a typical good looking Japanese actor, he is quite good at playing a funny characters and my daughter's one of favorite actors.

Happy OT everyone :)

Dramas this week:

Good Doctor: Less hospital politics + more people on SO's side = good episodes :)

Suspicious Housekeeper: Liked the 2 episodes and it seems like a keeper :D Love the children (esp. the little one and her impersonations of Bok Nyeo^^) and the set up seems interesting!

Twoo Weeks: That was one satisfying ending =) Loved the early wrap and all the cute we got afterwards <3 Soo Jin and her appa are the most adorable thing I've ever seen! It was a thrilling ride and I will miss Soo Jin and Tae San a lot!

Master's Sun: God the Hee Joo - Hanna bit was confusing :D I am so curious about the Gong Shil - Chun Hee pairing. I hate them to bring Chunderella into the game because he is just awesome! (Couldn't they have picked someone who I care less for^^)

Secret: First episode was not that interesting ... I don't know but I had trouble connecting with the drama. I still have to watch ep 2 so I' decide after this one to keep going or to drop (I mean there are just so many other dramas comin in the next week I have to make a cut somewhere^^)

Variety land:

ONVS: I hope that they win this damn last badminton match because they deserve it!
I felt so bad for Chansung and Feeldog when they lost again because they really worked hard but when it came to the important matches were a ball of nerves :(

Running Man: Kim Hae Sook is awesome and Yoo Ah In adorable :D And even though I felt bad for the cast to be thrown into the water in the chilly weather I cracked up so much because of there expressions when they went flying :D

WGM: Oh my... Shinee... Key and Eunji rock my world! Love them together. I am looking forward to the continuation of the Chuseok visit at Shinee's dorm^^
The other couples are fun to watch so I am not complaining^^

Happy Together: currently watching the episode with Clara, Oh Jong Hyuk etc...
I do get now why people disklike Clara quite a bit^^ She seems to be attention seeking and I don't know I just feel uncomfortable watching her. I don't even think she's that pretty ... But well... I don't have to like right?^^

Our neighbourhood variety sports ;) A Variety show with Kang Ho Dong, Lee Su Geun and Changmin with changing guests. They play a certain sport for about a month and compete against sportclubs in Korea. So far they had ping-pong, bowling and badminton and the next sport is apparently basketball :)

I really loved Two Weeks ending. and Tae San is one of the best characters of the year . better than any of the dramas that aired the same time. even a better character than Joong Won. so well played and I was amazed at the connection of the little girl and LJK! how could they click so well? aww I would give a million dollars if all relationships were so sweet!

Have not watched Two Weeks but the recaps are so well-written that I'm pretty sure I will be awed again when I finally get to watch it. Saving it to watch w Hubby since I think it would be a show even guys would like (you know, as compared to typical kdrama romantic stuff).

I watched the first two episodes of Secret, and it did not make my "must see" list. It looks so far like yet another evil chaebol family vs lowly commoners vs Candy Girl love triangle filled with Noble Idiots.

I am sure that someplace soon we will see a car washing scene, a dish washing scene, and of course a scene where the jerk argues with prince.

Cranky happens to everyone. Breathing helps. So does sleep. Try thinking of what you would do for a best friend if she was in a mood, then give that to yourself. For me, putting on my happy playlist and dancing away to blues helps.

In a pinch, go watch Korean kisses compilation on YouTube. Who can be in a bad mood when rating the kissability of your favorite actors' lips?

Hahaha!! That's an awesome pick-me-up technique!!

I tend to go watch clips of 1n2d! Usually season 1 has the ability to leave me laughing!

I can also recommend reading some of the legendary Dramabeans posts for a pick-me-up. This one about water, soap, towels, and lust never fails to have me laughing so hard my eyes tear up. Must be read all the way thru, it is a cumulative effect.

Anyone else have a favorite DB post that you re-read?

Yes it's a great pick me up and also a nice way to while away some time.
You won't believe it but just yesterday I think javabeans was tweeting about the same thing.

LOL guess beanies do think alike even if it's the queen beanie.

Am for some odd reason wasting tons of time reading DB finale recaps. NOT A NARCISSIST! @HeadsNo2's Dr. Jin is a winner (also loser?).

I wasnt pareticularly cranky, I managed to avoid annoying visitors somehow by being on tour at the same time. all in finnish. the bad thing: had to go outside and it is quite cold. spoke for 40 minutes standing in the wind, on the peer. gah.
but my collegues were all cranky and pissed. they got the worse hit from the 89 schoolkids .... oh man...

and then I am pissed at drivers in Estonia, cause my mom was in a bus accident. her bus got hit by a tram from one side and a trolley car from the other side, so it was stuck for 3 hours. fortunately my mom with 2 men got out and was not hurt. I believe her at leats that she aint cause she wants to go dig the ground in the garden tomorrow. but what an awful thing. gah.

and I am pissed a bit cause there are so many rats in town. and on my running track. I nearly jumped to a tree when I saw one.

OM, that'll make two of us. Glad your mom is alright. My mom got into a bus accident early this week as well. The bus driver drove into a wall. My mom was not seriously injured but she now has difficulty raising her arms because she banged into a bar on her side and there's a bruise on her thigh that surfaced first as a line and is now a palm-sized deep blue-purple patch.

BUS DRIVERS!! Lives are in your hands!! Please drive carefully!!

I'll turn a blind eye.

Argh!, Too late for Pirate day? I do have a parrot. We went to an auction last Monday and the auctioneer had a cockatoo on his shoulder.

The bird was bobbing up and down , nibbling at his hair, etc. It was funny.
