I think one real kiss from Young Do might just cure that. Don't you?

Inhibition, meet your destroyer.

Funny thing in 'real life' - interviews, variety stuff...he is NOTHING like the intensity he channels for characters and modeling. He even says he's a huge sap, always crying.

Still. If he would look at me, and purr...I'm good.

I don't think she's worth his efforts, frankly, when he could have anyone else in his class, and a few that are quite older. [cough cough]

0

My friend, you raise an excellent point.

0

agreed. he shouldn't bother with her. soooooo boooooooring

0

I like the thread of this conversation =). I'm a Young-do Fan too =). Yes, I hope he found someone who would be able to erase his hurt. In fact, I like the Bona character who seems to be very protective and funny. Characters needed by baby Young-do. Maybe Bona will have a twin somewhere?

0

Actually...I could see that working, BengBeng

0

Haha, I like Woobie's combo of scary looks and baby attitude. It's cute.

0

A kiss from Young Do will cure whatever ails me!!!

The interaction between Young Do and Eun-Sang is more electrifying. I like Kim Tan, but he is sweet to YD's sexxxy.

0

That bit is the most unbelievable ridiculous bit ... That all these boys are instantly interested in her. WAE!!!????? Come on laaaaaa. Its just tooooooo ridiculooouuuuus. Did i mention ridiculouusssss???

Selamat, enz! And yes. I don't get the gravitational pull either.

0

Shukie!!! We always agree on the non realistic bits. The police inadequacies and the attraction of a girl who has three expressions. Blank, constipated and constipated with tears.

0

@Enz - I can believe Woobie first got interested in her because she was being grumpy and didn't notice him (very fitting for his character, must say).

And I get that Tan got interested because he saw her at her most vulnerable, but I just don't GET it deeper down, you know? And not all the staring in the world can convince me of it.

0

No pogo.. Remember how young do didnt know who she was and was shirlding her from sunlight outside the convenience store? And inexplicably feeling protective towards her coz she looked pitiful sleeping everywhere? I say if that was the case, he should have been in love many times seeing some homeless person in the streets. Rubbishy laaaa. But just have to accept, just like in AGD, which i dropped. I cant believe i hate kim ha neul more than park shin hye!

Now am watching coz i like kang ha neul and i wAnt a noona romance

0

Fascination... Curiosity...fine
Attraction... It is supposedly a "romantic" kdrama

But, I am still unsold and puzzled by the "Deep gravitational pull" that Cha Eun-San has on Choi Young-Do and Kim Tan.

Maybe I am blinded by the light -- that is Kim Woo-Bin's acting -- and nothing else is visible or takes the place of watching Kim Woo Bin in scene after scene!

0

@Enz - come now, there's a difference between a homeless person sleeping in the street (and are there even any homeless people in Rich People Neighbourhood?) and a pretty girl ignoring you and plunking down to catnap in plain sight, you have to admit.

Other than that, I can't really see why it's ES. I'd get him and Rachel far easier - they're equally prickly with soft-ish underbellies, and she'll return whatever he dishes out, with interest.

0

IKR? I just don't get it at all. That character has zero charisma. I love Enz's response: "the attraction of a girl who has three expressions. Blank, constipated and constipated with tears."

0

Pogo, i exaggerated la when i used pitiful homeless person as an example. But everyone looks pitiful when they are with young do. Surely, one of them would have caught his eye sooner. He has been itching to torment a pitiful pretty girl. He would have found one easily. Doesnt make any sense that it has to be this one he finds so compelling right from the start.

0

I don't think I've seen the actress in any natural-looking kiss scene... her past dramas that I've seen all had some awkward kiss scenes. I mean c'mon, I've never had that problem with Lee Min Ho's kiss scenes, and I was hoping that this pair would do better, but seriously, she's got to relax a bit and get into it..

She's fine when she's not on a network drama. The final kiss from Flower Boy Next Door, as well as a kiss with Jang Geun-seok in an Etude House CF from way back, are enough proof of that.

0

I have a difficult time buying that actors and actresses have any input in how a drama kiss is staged or what gets on the air. As that bug eye thing is a standard k drama trope, not sure how we can blame any actress or actor for it. She and LMH could snog all night long on set and they would still probably air a lip press. As the target audience is a teen demographic, I'm not expecting much of anything else from this drama.

0

Tsk, tsk, tsk, girls, girls, blank, constipated, constipated with tears, boring, perpetual awkward kiss, bug eyes.... tsk, tsk, tsk .. I don't disagree though, sigh...

0

I never thought I would see the day that a "romantic" kdrama with Lee Min-Ho as the lead would merrily subject viewers to multiple kiss scenes with the female lead only being able to emote looks of "deer blinded by car headlights," "bug eyes," "dead fish," "blank" and "blanker."

0

I miss the Park Shin-Hye from Flower Boy Next Door, Yoon Shi-Yoon got her to actually kiss. Hmm...maybe its because he wasn't forcing kisses on her?

Honestly I have little patience for all the leads in this drama. Why should I waste my time with it when I can watch Answer Me 1994, a show in which I love every single character?

Young-do needs his own story, complete with a happy ending, in a second drama. And ONLY Kim Woo-bin should play him.

If Lee Min-ho were not Lee Min-ho this show would be re-written so fast so Young-do would win the girl.

Young-do is the most interesting, most compelling, most watchable, character in the show.

Standing O for Kim Woo-bin's work in Heirs. Simply outstanding.

I gave up on this show a long time ago, and the ONLY reason why I am still reading the recap is because of him. And I really believe it is him and not the character because genrally I really hate his character type. He makes him compelling. Yes, he needs his own show NOW. And I completely agree that if the lead were ANYONE but Lee Min Ho, they would be rewriting like gerbils in a maze trying to get themselves into some reward for him because I have a feeling that he is going to be the "forever alone" character in all this.

Sadly, I agree.

Next stop for Woo Bin, though - it has to be the lead in a drama. And he has to start out kinda bad and secretly be the boy we all ship in our hearts, and it will be the best drama ever and we will cry rivers of tears and

BAM! Before you know it, it's BoF who? You thought you knew crack drama? No. I know crack drama, Lee Min Ho, and you are no crack drama.

oh I just remembered Friend 2 is coming up! I mean..different idea but still, a big step for the Woob.

0

@JoAnne - I wonder how our Woobie will do on the acting front in Friend 2, though. That satori doesn't sound all that natural on him in the trailer, and he is up against some srs business veteran actors, afaik he is more of a strong supporting player here.

But I do agree, he needs to follow his buddy Jong-seok into First Lead territory in a drama, he has the charisma, talent and looks for it. He's killing it in Heirs, and stealing Lee Min-ho's thunder while he's at it - doesn't help that he actually has better chemistry with Park Shin-hye, despite all Eunsang's fraidy-cat looks. And I do NOT say this because he is my bias - I'm fully capable of admitting that he could be very green sometimes in the beginning and his line deliveries were a bit funny (plus objectively, LJS aka Dramabeans' New Puppy is a better actor) , but he hasn't put a foot wrong since School 2013, and is probably the only reason why I even like Young-do at all. He was killing the face acting in Heirs.

0

I definitely agree that:

"Young-do needs his own story, complete with a happy ending, in a second drama. And ONLY Kim Woo-bin should play him..."

Kim Woo-bin has delivered a stellar performance as Young-do and deserves a standing ovation for his work in Heirs.

Hey Lizzy4e! I remember you from the Master's Sun recaps, and I totally agree with you about Kim Woo-bin, he's stealing scenes out from everybody else's noses in Heirs, and if that character was played by anyone else I don't think it would have worked half as well.
And yes, Young-do is the most interesting character on that show, by far.

Hey Pogo! I remember you too! (Hi, how are ya? Still miss Master’s Sun.)

Oh, yes, you are so right, he IS stealing scenes out from everybody else’s noses.

Props to Kim Woo-bin for taking advantage of this career-making opportunity, second-lead to Lee Min-ho, by out acting everyone on the set.

While I watch Heirs I am thinking When is Young-do going to show up? I love Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye, love the mute-mom and the mistress-mom combo, but they pale in comparison to my interest in Young-do and his nascent humanization. This wild, hurt, angry, psychopathic animal is discovering empathy and compassion and Kim Woo-bin makes the journey fascinating.

And YES, the face acting….good golly the face acting

Hey! *waves* I miss Master's Sun too, none of the currently airing dramas (and yes, I tested Secret too) have been able to recreate the feeling I had when I was watching MS - you know, desperately wanting the OTP to touch, and cursing every day of the week that wasn't Wednesday/Thursday, lol.

I like LMH and PSH, but literally every other character in the drama except the psycho horrible dads, is more interesting than them. And with Young-do, it is no contest - he just adds a spark to every scene he's in, even when he's running the repetitive I'll-tell-everyone-you're-a-bastard lines, and I do agree, it's fascinating to watch him being humanised almost against his own will.

0

Pogo, he dragged me back into this ridiculous show. If his part had been small, like in Gentleman's Dignity, I would've stayed away. But it's so hard to resist all this Woobie...

TS - it was the news that he'd been cast that got me to follow it in the first place, and now I'm in it for the side characters too (<3 Bo-na and the moms) but yeah, he's the biggest reason why I'm still here.

And yeah, I can't see the LMH attraction here either - especially when pitted against Woobie, and with him forced to wear those ugly sweaters. City Hunter LMH was magnificent though, and City Hunter LMH vs. Woobie would have been a more appropriate face-off, hotness-wise,but as they are in Heirs? No contest. (and why, WHY did LMH mess with his jawline?)

0

Hey Guys! Long time...and so happy that you all are Woo Binning here. He is totally stealing all the scenes from LMH. and that most boring female lead ever. I'm struggling to stay with this drama.

Hey pillow! It's been a long time since the Arang threads indeed, and we are SO struck by Second Lead Syndrome for Woo-bin, it is not funny.

It's a shame about Park Shin-hye, she's a good actress but this drama is giving her next to nothing to do but cry and stare angstily. I'd dig it to death if she and Woobie did another drama together, where she got to play a character at least as interesting as in Flower Boy Next Door, and he got to be her leading man for real.

0

No pogo! Please... I beg no more PSH. I cannot take her facial expression. Its like dumbstruck ALL THE TIME! Just cannot stand more of the same.

0

Enz - she wasn't dumbstruck in FBND! More like occasionally cranky, really, and I like me a cranky heroine. Same with the Cyrano movie, girl was no-nonsense there and it was fun to watch.

It's a shame about her in Heirs, though I had portents of doom the minute I heard who her leading man was. They just don't have enough spark to make Tan and Eun-sang compelling, and I blame the writing for that too.

0

Her crankiness manifests in the same expression slightly loose jawed/lip but now with a furrow on her brow. Arrrrghhh

0

Frankly, I'm not seeing the attraction for Lee Min Ho here. [Ducks fangirl bullets.] If anything, he's kind of grossing me out.

I'm glad to hear that because whilst I haven't seen the show, I was intending to watch to see LMH and KWB... though Kim Tan's character description never appealed to me (nor did Eun Sang's). Friend 2 just opened with 300k views while No Breathing took a week to achieve that number. And from the short reviews I have seen, it is a better movie that allows WooBin to flex his acting chops. He's also all over the place, CFs, Vogue Italy, news coverage, etc. Woob is doing just as well as Puppy Jong Suk.

At first I doubted Woobin's ability of judging scripts because of Heirs, but then he is coming out of that mess of a drama as the best actor (sorry to everyone else), so if he predicted this and took on the challenge then much kudos to him. I see him sticking with movies rather than dramas in the future. He has the charisma and the intensity that movie directors love and don't find in many drama actors.

@madhatter - it did? And the reviews of his performance are good?!

I am THRILLED that both my School 2013 boys are doing so well - I worried that Heirs would be a wasted opportunity for Woo-bin, but he's doing really well there and if this is his final stop before bona fide lead status, that's even better. I mean, Lee Jun-ki used to play supporting/second lead characters too, and look where he got.

A couple of casual fans who watched it said so. I guess we should wait for the 'official' reviews, but these fans were unbiased when it came to No Breathing' shortcomings so I trust their verdicts.

I love seeing the boys fast advancing in their careers too. I have no problems with them playing second leads or even small roles, as long as they get something out of it as an actor. Even better when they manage to steal the show :)

Fangirling aside, this show is freakin' wonderful. Cinematography is lush and exquisite. All levels of acting from the leads down to the supporting cast is firing on all cylinders. The drama is very fast paced and in fact quite interesting. However I personally dislike the fact that the drama twisted the history. The Koryo king was very infamous, raping women etc etc yet episode 6 portrays him as very compassionate king for women who are enslaved to Yuan. Though I do understand drama can twist history as it fits, I find this twist a bit too much for my liking. But besides that, I like the drama. Though Empress Ki did marry to Yuan Emperor but this drama is going to s hip her with the infamous Koryo king at one point. You cannot mess a Korean woman with a foreigner in the drama land, I guess??

0

I am bothered by this twist too. It seems really disrespectful to the women this man raped and killed to rehabilitate him so untruthfully.

0

Required fields are marked *

The PD-Writing team wised up about people's dislike of this. They made the executive decision to make the story an AU drama.

They changed the king to a completely fictional one rather than try to soften up the infamous rapist king. He has a whole different name and everything.

It's a little like Moon/Sun which had an almost entirely fake royal family.

0

AU dramas can be done well but it's always hard to do it in a case where you build yourself on the historical facts and then try to change it. If you're going to do it, do it from the start!

When reading the promo material I always though this was gonna be a historical grounded sanguk, and not a fantasy or alternative reality one. So this twist seems like it is cheating reality a bit.

0

oh, yes it is very good.

The plot moves fast, and if you're not looking for historical accuracy I believe you'll enjoy it.

Now is the most appropriate time to marathon through the 6 episodes that have aired as the drama finally enters the Yuan court arc.

Yay good to hear! I was wondering why there was a lack of enthusiasm for the drama. Although the drama is not historically accurate, I'm still loving it. Mainly because I see the characters as purely fictional and since I'm not Korean, I don't relate them to the historical figures. I guess I'm really enjoying the actors and actresses as well. Lovin' Ha Ji Won :D

I agree with gossipgirl though. I feel that Empress Ki is the best drama airing at the moment. It's very plot-driven and I am very fond of those type of dramas, where there's a lot of action with humour.

..I didn't get all the buzz about Secret. Watched the first eight episodes and I wasn't really gripped as other people were. I ended up fast forwarding most of the second half of the series, then got to the ending and was like 'meh'.

Oh and there's Heirs. The plot is sooo slow! I'm still wondering why I am watching this.

As for Mirae's choice, I'm losing my patience. I love the light and fluffy moments but the plot isn't impressive. Future Mirae should just go back to her world!!

Tried Basketball and Suspicious Housekeeper for a few episodes. Didn't like them, so dropped them.

I wish Empress Ki was subbed as fast as some of the other dramas airing now (I do appreciate the subbers' work and all).

You won't believe my reactions when I watched 5-6.....I was like "oh ho...yummmy...noooo. wow, oh dear lord no, ..sob.....oh f**k,.why?.....OH F**K!"

It's finally getting to the courtly intrigue stuff, peeps, if that's your thing. Although I do recommend watching from the beginning coz its very good.

It's very addicting. I mean, all the tropes you expect to see, you see, but it doesn't make it any less intense and exciting.

Although, I must say the cliffhangers are really frustrating. If only this is like a HK show where they air it every weekday coz I'm totally dying to get my fix.

Empress Ki is soooo good so far - really enjoyed watching this drama. Very charismatic cast, nicely filmed, fast paced and a balance of light and poignant moments. There is a still at the beginning of each episode stating that this is a fictional depiction of a Goryeo woman (her life & times) so if a viewer establishes it as that, then this drama is very engaging and really nice to watch up to this point.

Seriously loving Empress Ki. Setting aside the history (which I get is not easily set aside), the show itself is fantastic. When I heard about it, I was so excited about the casting--but I felt very scared by the director.

Well...he seems to have pulled it together in a major way. I want to hug the person plotting this thing, and do whatever I can to keep the pace this fast for all the episodes. I had serious episode fear too, but I love these actors, and decided to give it ago. Well, I marathoned the first four eps on Hulu, and good grief it's good. SO MUCH PATHOS and loveliness. I watched all of BVS for Ji Chang Wook (whut was that?) and am so pleased to see him in something worthy of his versatility. So much love for Ha Ji Won and Jo Jin Mo too. I definitely recommend this drama. Set aside the episode count, and commit yourself to the episodes out already, and you'll be on the train/ship...ships. All the ships.

Hello DB-peeps!! And happy Friday!!
Anyone else here situated in Switzerland and a Kim Ji-hoon fan???!!
He is coming!!! It is to be expected that he arrives on 28th November in Zurich (7.35pm flight from Seoul) and will then go to Samnaun, to film for an SBS Variety show “World Challenge”
I think they crew will leave the Tuesday after.
I desperately want to stalk him, but I need fangirl support!!!! I seriously die if I just think about the awkwardness of going to the airport by myself TT.TT

Unfortunately, I'm all travelled out, between the Bahamas and California. Plus, I'm in charge of a rather big project at work, and the boss is definitely antsy to get it up and running. Plus, snow means No. lol. But I'm rooting for you!

Hands down my favorite show with KJH. Even with the lack of skin (I believe, it's been a while but I think I'd remember *that,* but correct me if I'm mistaken!)

Hope you find a posse. I am with you in spirit!

Think about how you would feel if you missed this opportunity. You can do it!!

I love to go not just I like his drama but just to escape from my mixed up mind and relax in Switzerland. But I am way too old to stalk a Korean actor,,,. Can someone from Japan or Korea come to Malta for filming instead of Switzerland. The Swiss Franc is freaking high now,,,

I think I am rather too old to be a stalker,,, but I must say that KJH is a classic handsome. I wish I could go to Switzerland. I used to go there often but the Swiss Franc really kills me. Switzerland is a great place to relax for me... but too short notice and I am suffering from high blood pressure,,,,. I hope someday Korean or Japanese actors/actresses come to Malta so I can watch them with my kids. Usually weather in Switzerland during this time frame is so dim,,, why don't they come to Malta instead?

Adding my two cents here. When I was younger I was a massive fan of a Japanese rocker, a friend and I traveled up and down the country going to his concerts. Because it was before foreigners really knew about him, we pretty much stuck out in shows and the guys staff knew we were fans. Anyways, during one of these 'cross country tours,' we ended up on the same boat with this kid for nine hours. I had his staff glaring at me the entire time thinking I was some super stalker fan (not, it's not my fault there's only one boat a day you can take when you have a car,) but I mustered up my courage and approached his band, just to have a chat. The main musician was asleep, but was super cool to just chat and chill with these guys. Fast-forward to years later, and I end up hanging out with this musician at a bar through work, and somehow this topic comes up, and the *GUY REMEMBERS* Even though he wasn't there, he heard about it. I remember at the time on that boat feeling super crazy awkward and cursing my friend for falling asleep with the orders 'go make friends' but I did it, and it was cool. And that was just me. So I say go the airport, if you see Kim Ji-hoon or the crew just go up and say 'hey.' They honestly will love to see/meet a (hopefully) chill fan. That was my experience at least...

Oh stop. Life is short, you only live once, etc.... If you want to see him, go see him! He would probably appreciate the support of a nice calm Swiss Ahjumma fan. If I were there I would totally go.

You are so silly. Why would you want to regret not going? I do t understnad. Dont you know that nobody remembers or cares about your embarrassment? Make yourself happy la. Ahhh, now i know i should be embarrassed all this time. No wonder my colleagues say 'epople HIDE this!' But i dont care!! Why should anyone be embarrassed about something that gives them pleasure and a little bit of happiness?

Life can be hard enough without worrying about how things look to other people. As long as youre not harming anyone, why NOT???

come to think of this, even ahjumma can be a stalker. My friend who is probably much older follows a Korean actor occasionally. After much planning, I thought I should go but I have to bring my daughter and no matter how much I begged, she refuses since she was going to be awarded on the weekends,,, she just does not want to miss it out. I think my mother role has to come first this time. I hope you will go to Switzerland. The land of calmness awaits you with KJH!! Fighting!!!

kakashi, go for it. be at the airport. You must be met by KJH! You must be known to him. And if it is once in your lifetime you are a fangirl for real, then so be it. You can be at the hotel cafe if the airport is too much. Let your shadows meet. Yippee. Good on KJH to be in Switzerland where the number one fan is. Wish i were there for i'd surely join you; even if i have no experience on this myself.

Anyone else see GeunBum Milan pics? They are super cute and I wish them well :)
Also can you guys recommend me a good original/fresh drama? I have all the mainstream ones and almost all of them(mainstream or not) in the last few years.I have even seen most of the popular T-dramas. Now I am going through a dry and feel like they are all the same :(
