TOP to romance Shin Se-kyung in Tazza 2
Sooo, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. I’ll let you decide which is which.
High-stakes-gambling-centered Tazza has been a manhwa, a movie, and a drama, and now the property is circling back for a second round on the big screen with Tazza 2: Hand of God. As was previously teased, the lead role will in fact be played by Choi Seung-hyun, aka Big Bang’s TOP, who is now confirmed for the movie. And joining him will be Shin Se-kyung (When A Man Loves, Fashion King), who has been announced as his love interest (with the usual round of “she’s finalizing contracts, no she’s just considering, she’s not 100 percent confirmed”).
TOP has come a long way on the acting front, improving from project to project; I’ve got a good feeling about his budding acting career. Shin Se-kyung, on the other hand… prompts knee-jerk hatey reactions in me. I can’t help it. She’s just so… smirky and smug. Which would be more tolerable if she were actually good in her roles. Sadly, her default mode seems to be naive, pure, blank-faced, victim Candy robot. No thank you. (Also, this pairing retroactively makes this even funnier.)
The movie and the drama series centered around the same main characters (just recast with different actors—Go-ni was played by Jo Seung-woo first, and then Jang Hyuk), but Tazza 2 won’t bring those same roles back; TOP will play Go-ni’s nephew. The plot will follow the story of Part 2 of the manhwa series, so there is an existing narrative already in place. MY question: What comes next, Tazza 3 the movie, or Tazza 2 the drama sequel (which would really be the fourth Tazza)? So many Tazzas.
Directing will be Kang Hyung-chul, who did a pretty solid job filming heartwarming comedies Speedy Scandal and Sunny. The film will complete casting soon and begin filming before the end of the year.
