Lee Min-jung and Joo Sang-wook consider new rom-com

MBC’s next Wednesday-Thursday drama is beginning its casting rounds, and courting Lee Min-jung (All About My Romance) and Joo Sang-wook (Good Doctor) to star. Lee Min-jung is considering, while most reports say that Joo Sang-wook has signed on. The new romantic comedy series is called Sly and Single Again (more literally Sly Woman Who’s Single Again, which doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue). It’s about a divorced couple who reconnect as newly single people, which is apparently going to be our running theme for 2014.

The 16-episode drama comes from the PD of Me Too, Flower! and a new writer, and tells the story of a woman who is happily single again after divorce and dreams of a love affair with a newly single man. She continues to be hopeful despite repeated failures in the dating department, and then one day comes across her ex-husband (Joo Sang-wook), who is now suddenly a chaebol. Plagued with buyer’s remorse (or is it returner’s remorse?) she begins this scheme to win him back, and comedy ensues.

As long as it’s chipper and played for laughs, it sounds like a fun setup. And I like the potential in the two leads, if the casting ends up being a lock. Lee Min-jung can be hit or miss depending on character type, but she’s good at bubbly rom-com heroines, and I have a feeling she’ll keep the heroine’s slyness from being pernicious.

The hero doesn’t sound that interesting on paper, but I’m sure we’ll get more out of Joo Sang-wook than just handsome rich guy. In any case it’s nice to have a bunch of rom-coms filling out the drama landscape. Maybe the running mantra for the new year will be Give Your Old Lover A Second Chance. Preferably after a good round of bickering, or ten.

Sly and Single Again follows Miss Korea and premieres in February.

I don't get it?

You mean he is very different off camera? Because I love watching him in interviews because omg LOL he is the funniest.

OMG! Your comment could have come straight out of my head! After seeing him on Happy Family (I think?) and them RM, I prefer his characters over his ummm...real self. He almost redeemed himself by catching that chicken, but lordy he is a chatter box and needs a bit to much "me" time...and not in a funny or cute way like the rest of the RM cast.

Variety has not done him any favors, sadly.

I think he is interesting off camera. He is entertaining in RM. ^^ His character in drama usually is cool and genius which is not really "many" and realistic in reality.

I also liked him during his Qualifications of Men. He is such a heartthrob! i'm a fan =)

I want to see him in Team Ten 3!! But if I don't get a Team Ten 3 then I'd settle for a 16 episodes rom-com I guess ;)

I need a Ten 3 too!! Since Good Doctor wrapped up, I'd been keeping an eye out for it! That Joo Sangwook is the hottest.

Joo Sang Wook as rich and handsome guy, what a surprise. Thank goodness this seems like a comedy though. This pairing could be adorable.

Lee min-jung is a bit of a favourite of mine. I even saw the horror that was Big for her and Gong Yoo, so I'm excited for this. Hopefully its good, her past few dramas have been disappointing, so I hope this breaks the trend.

Finally. A lead role for Joo Sang Wook. I'll always associate him to the unintentionally-funny chatterbox whenever he comes to Running Man, but his charisma.. well there is a reason why he is constantly being given roles as those with cool persona. Good for you, Joo-shi.

Yay!! I love Joo Sang Wook... I think he will be very good in a rom-com drama. I was sad for him when he was Jae Ha in The Feast of the Gods. I hope it will be happy ending for him here. Looking forward to it.

YAY! I love Lee Min-Jung. I know shes had a few bad roles lately but her characters in Smile You and Wonderful Radio are enough to make her one of my favorite actresses. She's much like Park Shi-Yeon in this way.

And I'm excited about Joo Sang-Wook, I've never seen him before but I've heard good things. I also like stories of revisited loves that make it the second time around so I will definitely check it out.

Me too! I've got a soft spot for her, from hating her character in My Girl, one of my favorite dramas, to loving her character in Coffee House. She's a good example of a pretty face steadily improving her acting over the years.

The only drama that I liked LMJ in was 'Smile You' with JKH (they were so adorable there that I shipped them for a little bit). But I don't know why I got bored with her acting after 'Smile You'. Even when she was in that political rom-com with Shin Ha-kyun, I was pretty indifferent to her portrayal of her character.

As for JSW, there are times when I feel that he can be a little bit stiff in the way he delivers his line, but I like him cause he is such a funny guy judging from his variety stint since 'Qualification of Men'. The thought of JSW in a rom-com is bringing the gigglies to me, please, please be good!!

I love Joo Sang Wook since Good Doctor. But he's so funny in variety, in RM and in Happy Together he confessed how he always get CEO/manager roles and got typecasted.
Romcom will be good for him

Ooooh, I love the premise! And the pair looks absolutely adorable. I'm liking so far the up and coming dramas for 2014! Seems like such a huge break from all the heavy crying done this year. Can't wait!

After seeing Joo Sang-wook in Good Doctor I became a fan of his. I like Lee Min-jung well enough, too. I liked Me Too, Flower so I'm (cautiously) optimistic about the PD. I'll probably see this, in any case. Looking forward to this drama.

I used to have a really big girl crush on Lee Min Jung back in the day but then I totally lost interest in her. Maybe when she does a project I actually end up liking again my girl crushing will be back on.

JSW my crush is still as strong as when I first saw him in 'Three Dads One Mom' I think that's what the drama was called don't remember exactly.

I have a soft spot for Lee Min Jung because I loved her and Jung Kyung Ho sooo much in Smile You. :) All About My Romance wasn't that bad, I actually quite liked it. But Big was a whole 'nother level of disaster (even if I like Gong Yoo a lot). Hopefully this project turns out well since it's about time both leads a good drama again.

Sounds good, but I hope Lee Min-jung gives this a pass. I don't mind her, but she doesn't kiss well. She's not as bad as Park Shin Hye's horrible fish face kisses, but still ... I'm never convinced by her kissing. A drama like this needs good kissers. I hope they cast Yoon Eun Hye or some other female lead who kiss as well as she.

joo sang wooook!!!!!!!!! i love that man! its great hes in a lead role again! theres not much about the hero andim kinda missing his dramatic role in TEN but im happy he picked a rom com.
looks like the love at second sight theme would be the time travel of this year... but It kinda funny to me that Paradise Ranch -Joo sang wook was there too btw- used this theme ages ago and I sincerely liked it.

How come no one has mentioned his stint in Giant here? For me, that's his best role yet.

Yes.. I agree with you, Elle. Giant is still the best for him so far.

He said realy thankful to Giant. Because of Giant, his acting skill improved and people can recognize him more. I ever read an article that Giant's director said : " Casting the leads was all very difficult, but casting the role of Minwoo was particularly hard. Because he’s the son of the devil ... JSW has very chiseled features and a handsome face like someone who would appear in graphic novels. He also has great voice control. He far exceeded our expectations "
