Sohn Ho-joon to play Yoon Kye-sang’s rival?

Here’s another maybe-addition to KBS’s upcoming melodrama Full Sun, which is still in its name-dropping phase of casting with no actors signed on yet. Rumored to headline is Yoon Kye-sang, and now Answer Me 1994’s Sohn Ho-joon (aka Slam Dunk Hair Haitai) is being courted to play his rival.

The new melodrama from the PD of Women in the Sun and Wild Romance and the writer of Dream High 2 is about a revenge gone awry when the bad boy hero falls in love with the girlfriend of the man he kinda sorta killed. Should I be concerned that this is the go-to plot in melodramas these days? Yoon Kye-sang is up for a dramaland comeback as the con man anti-hero, and Han Ji-hye (I Summon You, Gold) is considering the heroine role.

Master’s Sun’s Little Sun Kim Yuri and Jo Jin-woong (Tree With Deep Roots) are up to play the partners to the con man in a side love triangle of their own, while Sohn Ho-joon is being courted to play the second lead and rival to the hero. I guess being the bad guy’s rival might make him a nice guy, but I wouldn’t count on it in melo-land. It’s too bad because he’s just so adorable as Answer Me 1994’s resident trendsetter who talks a big game but can’t keep a date. Though really, it’s just great to see the cast getting so much work right away. Get your sweetie pie Haitai fix now while you can, before the melos come to claim him!

Full Sun will be the next Monday-Tuesday drama for KBS, following Prime Minister and I. It premieres February 10.

I'm still on the fence despite little sun and hai tai's involvement. I'm not too sure if I can stomach a melo after the winter line up of cutesy rom com dramas.

I'll always remember him as the Haitai who dropped his pants upon entering the girl's house, right in front of his parents and sister!

Happy for the 1994 cast for being in so much demand. We'll be seeing them one way or the other.

I wish for a change the one set out for a revenge would fall for a person who committed the crime/whatever he/she wants to avenge. And that it would not be a misunderstanding a la secret where she hadn't REALLY done it but it would be real, she/he would really be guilty. It could be accidental of course, but still the hero/heroine would be the one responsible for the crime/whatever.

I like that hair too! It has character and is period specific.

Still not sure if I'm going to watch this, despite the cast.

It has Haitai and Little Sun... but also melo-ness and /the writer of Dream High 2/.

Yeah I'm not trusting my feels into the hands of that writer. I think I'm gonna sit this one out... sadly.

After so many amazing rom-coms, we get offered a melo but it's ok and I'm up for this drama with the cast and all. I've missed Yoon Kye Sang so much since Greatest Love. Both he and Sohn Jo Hoon are great with comedy so it'll be nice watching them do something different from what we're used to(am talking slam dunk hair's inability to keep a girlfriend and pants dropping b4 girl's family). LOL. I'll still bear it and watch even if along the way, the drama's plot goes wack *HOPING IT DOESN'T* So Bring It, Show.

I was excited to hear of another drama with Yoon Kye-sang because I really liked his acting. However, the possible casting of Han Ji-hye has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. She was, to me, very annoying in "May Queen" with her wide-eyed, shocked expressions in every scene. (the stupid story didn't help, either.)

I'll probably check out the first episode anyway. Who knows, maybe HJH will surprise me as much as Hwang Jung Eum did in Secret. HJE's character in "Can You Hear My Heart" was very irritating in the beginning and turned me off of her later dramas; "Secret" has made me like her again.

He is definitely my favorite in Answer Me 1994 but if Han Ji Hye is the lead actress I doubt I would watch it...I can't stand her acting in dramas (movies are fine). Was unable to finish May Queen and Summer Scent because of her.

this is really superficial but just wanted to say that I love his skintone. It's so warm and rich at the same time. He is just crazy cute.

I always love a good tear-inducing melodrama so I will be looking forward to this one :) YKS, KYR, HJH, and now SHJ are even more reasons to watch!

If Yoon Kye Sang signs on, I'll give it a try. Why not?

That's always been my attitude unless there's something truly repellent about the plot.

He won't be playing YKS' rival, he'll be playing Han Ji Hye's younger brother.

okay I was so signed up for this woth YKS name being dropped.. then now my Hpjun... so signed up written in blood!!!

but who to root for? who to root for? who to root for?

BUT i saw the PD and writer's works... and urgghhh... not really the dramas I want.. okay those dramas (dream high2, wild romance, women of the sun ) made me drop it half way through...

okay I am in such a dilemma.... I want my Kyesang and Hojun fill, but chicha the writer and PD are just the people I steer clear from.. or more like their past works has made me allergic to anything they have signed up on...
what to do?
what to do?

My reaction when I read that it's the writer from DH2: not pretty at all. Oh goddds that drama. Still a bit speechless about that one. Let's hope this drama has a better future!
