Thrice Married Woman gets one-month extension

Weekend drama Thrice Married Woman isn’t leading in the ratings, so I’m surprised to hear that it has just been granted an eight-episode extension. Not that it’s doing poorly, but its 10% to 13% numbers are modest, and it has been trailing behind MBC’s Gold Rainbow.

But perhaps this is the power of having a star writer at the helm (Kim Soo-hyun), or maybe it’s that its successor drama needs a bit more time to bake before it’s ready to be served. (That would be Angel Eyes, the show being considered by Lee Jun-ki and Han Ji-min about a pair of young first loves who are painfully separated, then reunited in adulthood, after the once-blind girl has now regained her sight.)

Thrice Married Woman stars Lee Jia as a woman who first married a nice guy with a horrible family (Song Chang-eui), then married a handsome cheater (Ha Suk-jin), while the ex-husband still harbors lingering feelings for her. Presumably after her second marriage fails, she’ll be caught between the two, deciding which one she finally sticks with for her third (and hopefully last) marriage.

Originally planned for 32 episodes, the drama will now end with Episode 40. However, dates are not yet firm for Thrice Married’s finale (or for Angel Eyes’ premiere) because of the Sochi Olympics, which kicks off in early February and will interrupt some programming.

If TMW being extended 8 eps, wouldn't that only be a 1 month extension?

Ah, but we could get things dragged out over a month if there's sports events in between.

For some reason I thought this drama was originally scheduled planned for 50 episodes, so this is a relief to me hahahh ^^;;

That's what I thought too. When this drama first came out, almost everywhere had it listed to go for fifty episodes.

This is annoying news. This show drags on as it is.

There's got to be something wrong when the only person I feel any sympathy for is the mistress.

the drama leads are not major pulls. Many didn't even bother to check out the drama, despite the writer's pedigree.

I know!! Why drag this out! There's really not much story that needs to be told. All the cards are pretty much on the table. Agghhh!, this is so frustrating. I'm gonna have to put this on the back burner for a while

This is retarded. I am barely keeping up with the show as it is and now it has an extension? What is this foolishness?

I've watched this on and off (probably five or six total episodes), and nothing really pulls me to watch it straight through. Unlike the writer's previous works, the characters really don't garner any emotional response or anticipation to the story...frankly, I couldn't care less about anybody anymore. It's a shame, considering the writer and the cast...I kinda figured though, with the lead actress changes.

I am, however, very interested in Angel Eyes...so I kinda get the extension. An extension not merited on ratings, but to help along the casting for AE...although that means TMW will be on that much longer :/ I'm still crossing my fingers it'll end up being Lee Jun-ki and Han Ji-min though...

I never cared for this drama. Although I do like Uhm Ji Won & Seo Young Hee, but Lee Jia's plastic surgery face scares the hell out of me.
But on the upside, this gives more time for Angel Eyes to get ready, and I am really really hoping that Lee Jung Ki and Han Ji Min takes the roles. I am dying for them to pair up in the same drama.

So I guess this drama is not good enough despite writer's fame? And yet still get extension? Interesting!
I want to watch it for Ha Suk Jin. But now I think it's better not to watch.

I guess I'm the odd man out because I love this drama. I've been watching this and A Word from Warm Heart since the beginning. It's been great for me to watch a drama not set in a high school or about some poor girl charming a rich husband even though she's 29 and never been kissed. It's a little more adult themed. Plus I love the cast.

I too like this drama and the cast - its realistic portrayal of the ups and downs of married and single lives, of families and extended families, without being overly dramatic. This drama offers some practical life lessons to the reflective viewers.

Likewise, I appreciate Thrice Married Woman and A Word From Warm Heart probing into adult relationships and the impact upon decisions when dealing with divorce, remarriage, infidelity, and parenting.

Since the beginning, Thrice Married Woman captured my attention because it was the first time I can remember a kdrama really exploring from the eye’s of a child of divorce – how painful, stressful, sad, and confusing it can be.

The father/daughter relationship and bond between Jung Tae-Won and Jung Ji-Young is noteworthy and remarkable. Jung Tae-Won's dedication to his daughter's needs and what's in her best interest is one of the primary reasons that I am enjoying this drama.

Jung Ji-Young was adamant and forthcoming to her family about what she needed/wanted from her mom and dad. We witnessed Jung Ji-Young feel uncertainty and anger at the prospect of mom and dad continuing to live in their current state of partial/full separation from her.

Her maternal family (Father, Grandparents, Aunt, and Mother) tried to make the process and its effects less painful for Jung Ji-Young.

It was refreshing to see a kdrama have a plotline about helping your child cope with divorce and the extra sensitivity needed in order to provide stability in the home and attending to the child’s needs with a reassuring and positive attitude.

Divorce for the child/children is a major event.

Sometimes to a child, Family (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc.) can be great but no matter how hard they try, they will never be mom and/or dad.

Sometimes to a child, Family (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc.) can be great and are a thousand times better than mom and/or dad.

Now we are at the stage where Jung Ji-Young is realizing her fallacy in thinking that the grass is greener elsewhere. She is learning how important it is to recognize and accept love from family irregardless of the title - father, mother, aunt, grandmother, grandfather, etc.

I'm on board with this too. Although I'm watching both, I like it much better than Warm Words. I have more empathy for these characters.

I am a huge fan of Kim Soo-Hyun's dramas but have to say this is not one of my favorite ones. Still, I love her writing style and her way of dealing with adult issues. Im sure I'll watch till the end.

You are not alone.

In addition to Thrice Married Woman and A Word from Warm Heart, I also enjoy Would You Give Love Away. I don't mind Prime Minister and I once in a while.

It is really hard for me to sit through Golden Rainbow or Passionate Love or Miss Korea or Reply 1994 or the likes. I don't know why. I do know that, in general, unfiltered raw speech or emotion or thoughts or behavior tend to repel me. Thrice Married Woman and A Word from Warm Heart generally avoids that.

While I like the drama (MTX's) I find the character of the sister annoying. Someone needs to do something with her wild head of hair and ES unattractive pony tail. So unattractive. As a mother I still can't wrap my head around her throwing her daughter in the wind and now having another baby. These dramas are going to run me crazy...but I just can't seem to get enough of them. lol

I'm also a keen watcher of this one, though it took a while to grab me. I almost gave up on it in the beginning, but somewhere around episode 7, I got interested. Now, I really want to see what becomes of these characters. Not sure I can agree that it needs eight more episodes to tell their story, though. (Shrugs) At least for now, I'll keep watching.

They might have to, as the first episode was so good it was painful to watch. The kind of divorce where two people nearly destroy each other emotionally? Where one of them nearly dies in a fit of binge drinking? And its a dark comedy? Can't wait to see what happens next.

It definitely made me scramble for the second episode, which i'm off to watch as soon as I post this reply.

Agree. Haven't warmed up to hero yet. Heroine, i feel for, despite yelling at her to grow some balls. I guess that's what this journeys about.

She fell for a pretty boy, he fell for a pretty girl, neither of them should have gotten married. It is so true to life I was startled from scene to scene.

And this is the first of these dramas I've seen on Korean or American television that shows a common symptom of such a bad marriage: acute depression. Incredibly sad.

0

I laughed too when they were fighting...though when they stood looking at the mess and knowing the ending, I felt sad. The show better start showing some layers why the lead guy is worth another try, cause at this point, I really can't stand him.

I am extremely happy to say I already dropped this drama. With so many good dramas out now I couldn't keep up, so this was the first casualty. And I don't miss it.

I was truly glad of the extension hence I was hoping it was 50 episodes, hence this drama entails a lot of married relationships, family and values. We're quite fascinated of the storyline and its good, and we're following it until the very end! Thanks for the info.

I've been keeping up with this drama only because of Lee Ji Ah.

To be honest I really dislike this drama. The pace is sooooooooo slow, most of the characters are too one-dimensional and inhuman, the scenes and dialogue are very repetitive and the whole mood of the drama is depressing.

I keep watching in the small hope that it will magically change and become a good drama. But at this point it's highly unlikely.

Now with this extension I can't imagine how much more they're going to drag the story. It was already moving at a snail's pace before the extension!

I really like this drama for some reason. It's not one of my favourites, but the relationships feel (almost) real with divorce, sisterhood, parenthood and friendship.

The only character I don't get is the new step-mother, because she really must mentally ill to force her way into such a household for no apparent reason (she's already rich, the guy told her he felt nothing for her and didn't want to marry her because he just cared for his daughter, she doesn't really like kids and knew the mother-in-law was weird despite being on her side from the beginning... I can't even try to understand, she's so twisted (but not "evil", just plain weird)).

I do feel bad for the mistress of the 2nd husband, not because the guy is an a** (although he's quite blank and direct with the "I won't cheat a second time, get lost" and with the "i'll never marry you nor let you become my mistress" from the start) but because she just can't prevent herself from being mistreated (love, work, feeling responsible for her family). It's like "what really happens when someone poor gets famous (rich + fame but lonely!)" rather than the Cinderalla story.

I love the Daddy-Daughter relationships as in "1st husband"+ daughter and the two sisters with their father. I also really like the relationship between the two sisters' parents because I love how the Dad likes the Mom so much even though she's a bit slow but so earnest and honest. They're simple (and cute), they just like their daughters and their granddaughter and there's no meddling. Live your life, talk to us if you want to, we'll always be there. Quite refreshing for a k-drama. Those relationships alone make want to watch more of the show.
I also like that there's no abusive family (well in the past (as in before the show started) but not now), the Father Who Knows Best is not "evil" or too much (for a kdrama...). Not toooooo many clichés.

Downside: although I liked 2nd husband's harshness with his mistress at first (which doesn't redeem him for cheating once "when drunk" or see her to get ridd of her behind his wife's back), I have to admit that his friend is awful. Also, he raped his wife once, so I'm done watching his scenes and understanding him. He's the evil one, if there's one in that show.

I was really shocked by the spousal rape, too and really surprised that it wasn't spoken of after the fact by either of them. I suppose it may be true of modern day South Korea that which was commonly believed here in this country: that a man cannot "rape" his wife, that he is entitled to sex on demand, and the wife's willingness doesn't factor into the equation. What's obvious about this couple at this point in the drama is that she increasingly can't stand the sight of him, and given that shocking breach of trust (and it's the rape, not the extra-marital incident I'm referring to), I don't blame her.

Of course I started watching because of Lee Ji Ah...Me Too Flower has me on her side from now on

Life decisions...you see people making bad ones and they just happen...the story is an interesting view of divorce, second marriages, people single at an older age, and family

I actually really like this show!! I think it portrays a lot of ideas about how marriage is viewed in society... Really real and interesting. I especially love the relationship between the lead's mother and father. Just as much love and care as they had for each other on day 1! Hard to see that nowadays unfortunately :(

I don't like the endings at all. How can someone who broke up a marriage ended up with the result she wants. The male leads are weak in character. How can a nasty mother-in-law gets away with what she wants. The female lead is too strong headed - not realistic. Overall it is a lousy drama.
