Go Ara up for cop role opposite Lee Seung-gi

Now we’re talkin’. I wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels of joy when Go Ara, who turned over a new leaf with her dedicated performance in Answer Me 1994, was looking at a supporting role in Song Seung-heon’s new melo Triangle. I wanted her to play the lead in something fun. Perhaps the universe heard me, because now she’s considering SBS’s upcoming police drama You’re All Surrounded, which is courting Lee Seung-gi and Cha Seung-won to star.
Her reps were careful to say that it’s just one of the projects she’s looking at. The production hasn’t officially locked Lee Seung-gi or Cha Seung-won in either, though they’re reportedly in final negotiations to sign on. They did court Park Min-young to co-star, but she passed on the project.
The drama comes from the writer of Ojakkyo Brothers and the PD of History of the Salaryman, which makes me think it’s going to be good. I know, cop comedy brings up some bad associations. But Ojakkyo cops were NOT Level 7 Civil Servant cops… even though they were technically both played by Joo-won. But Ojakkyo Joo-won was earnest and good at his job, and regularly had to be nagged by his partner to occasionally change his underwear because he was so into the stakeouts. And coupled with Salaryman’s PD, only hilarity can ensue.
The drama will be about four twentysomething rookie cops and their journey to becoming good detectives. Cha Seung-won will play the hot-tempered captain of the violent crimes unit, and Lee Seung-gi has been cast as the hapless new guy on his team, though of course he also has a 150 IQ, because he’s a drama hero. Go Ara is up to play the enthusiastic heroine who applied five times before finally passing the test to become a cop. It’s a cute pairing and another lively role for Go Ara, so I hope this casting sticks. Puppy is going to make a terrible cop, but won’t it be fun?
You’re All Surrounded will follow Three Days in late April.

now PMY is out and now we are talking. how is go ara.? if she's with seung gi i'll check answer 1994 which i have been meaning to. how is she as an actress? she's prety but needs a different hair for the role.

Soo much better than Park Min Young. I like her and she'd look great with Seunggi. I really hope she takes the role. She's perfect for it. The female lead sounds interesting too with the applied 5 times thing. Will they both be terrible at their jobs? That'll be cute.
Oh and 150 IQ, not quite as smart as Lee Jae Ha!

Haha.. that exactly what I was thinking when hear this IQ thing.. and is that mean our it's more low than Eun Cho Ding 160 IQ.. haha.. I think they should increase our Hero IQ for him to be a Jjang detective.. :D
And Now I'm excited to the female role too.. The character sounds attractive. sounds like some J-dorama character I really like.. hope Go Ara can portray this role too

I hope to see puppy Seung Gi to act with same depth for his role. I don't say the same character of Joo Won's Hwang Tae Hee in Ojakkyo Brothers, but with interesting layers of backstory.
I hope it will be a challenging one.

I don't think it's that high though..he's more known for being book smart than genius-smart (there's a difference). You can be bookish but not have such a high IQ. :D I'd say he's around high average.
But then again, this is just from what I observed from 1n2d...(and no, its not because he's heodang)

Sometimes despite having a high IQ, a person can looks normal too, like not book-smart and not genius either (like someone I know). I think IQ can't be guessed easily.

LSG is much more believable as the hapless type of leading man than as the dashing, masculine/action hero.
In MGIAG, LSG played a hapless character which was fitting, but one that was fawned over by girls and was an action film actor - not so much.

Okay now I'm officially excited. I was really getting nervous since most of the better actresses have projects they are either doing or considering. This is definitely a good choice. She was awesome in AM94 so I'm looking forward for her to play a fun character again along with romancing Seung-gi. I think they'll have some fabulous chemistry! I do hope she gets her hair longer and have it tied up so it's a little different from her previous look.
Casting on full force at the moment. Which is good since I really want them to secure everything by the third week of February. Given three days has only 16 episodes, they have lesser time than other dramas to prepare although it is still early times for now.
When/If they all officially sign on, I'll do the happy dance and celebrate :P

I like him for his variety persona but as an actor it is a different story. He is improving,though.
I'm not really sure if he is great in K2H or it was something do with him acting alongside Han Ji Won.

I feel the same. For some reason I've just never been able to click with him as an actor, though I've certainly tried. I so want to be able to love him since I keep hearing so many awesome things, and particularly after I saw him on Running Man. He's wonderful in variety, so why can't I love him acting?!
Ah well, residual love from variety will keep me trying each new show he does, so I'll be checking this one out, especially if Go Ara is on board. I have lots of love for her post AM94. And Cha Seung Won got me after Greatest Love :)

He was fabulous in K2H, and i don't know if it's because the character just somehow spoke to him, or because the whole cast were all experienced acting veterans that he felt the need to rise up to their level. I think his character in K2H is possibly the most 3D character he's ever played, which pushed him to display a much more diverse array of emotions. It was the role where for me, he went from "like" to "love".
I wasn't too fond of GFB because even my love for him couldn't keep me watching, but I'm sure he'll play this character well.

I think I can understand your thoughts now. In my case I decided to watch K2H because of HJW I don't even know who LSG is, but I think he had an awesome performance there.. I didn't saw him at any variety, so the only thing that comes out of my mind is him as Lee Jae Ha.. and after that I watched GFB and did'nt even finished the 5th Episode so I was thinking maybe it his character that I fell in love to not LSG as an actor.
I know how great CSW is but i didn't watched any drama of Go Ara so I will give it a try.I don't really have a high standard for any dramas(genre) happy ending will do :)

MGIAG is worth watching for Shin Mina as Miho, alone, but the over-story and secondary characters were lacking.
But still, more enjoyable than the majority of dramas/romcoms.

Me too. I'm here for CSW. LSG always plays same type of characters in his dramas- 'hapless guy who is bad at his job first and then becomes good in later episodes'.

Because that's like nearly every other kdrama male lead. Immature guy who grows up, usually with the help of the woman who loves him. That or the poor little rich neurotic chaebol with mommy issues who becomes less of an asshole eventually.

He's not the only one guilty of it. Lee Minho, Kim Woo Bin, Park Shinhye...the list goes on. Oh and even people like Hyun Bin (his two most famous drams were the exact same guy tbh) are guilty of replaying the same characters.

This should be a golden opportunity for Go Ara, starring as lead with Lee Seung-gi & Cha Seung-won as co-stars. Still impressed with her acting in Reply 1994.
I kinda missed Park Min-young's acting though, she was lovely in SKKS :)

Yeah, I miss PMY too and I was actually looking forward to her small-screen comeback.
Nonetheless, Go Ara is nothing short of awesome too. Her breakout performance in AM1994 turned me into an instant fan. I don't doubt her ability to rock this role. :D

Oh thank goodness. I don't dislike Park Min-young, but I really didn't want to see her in another cop/bodyguard role, and for some reason, I think Seung-gi and Go Ara would have far better chemistry. I really, reallllly hope she takes it!!

Rumours said before Lee Seungi, the main role was offered to Jung Woo, but he decline.
I love Jung Woo but I guess Lee Seungi aura as a leading man is probably way bigger than him. I dunno, that's my opinion.
I don't want to see reckless Ara, I want to see the tough Ara who can kick ass puppy Suengi's ass.. Heee.

No, Jung Woo was never offered LSG's role, he was offered another supporting role, SBS released the statement, LSG is the only name attached with the main role so far.

I don't understand that comment. So you heard PMY's agency was pushing for her to get the role and the production didn't want her? I haven't heard that before but it that's reliable information, that's interesting.
I wouldn't imagine she'd want to turn down a drama that may star LSG and CSW after turning down LJS. Both has a good PD-writer combo... It's odd but I guess we would never know the drama behind both dramas.

@scbound , Please don't lie, PMY declined the role herselve and her agency did not fought for this role at all. PMY declined the role because dorama is consentrated on 2 male lead and there is not much to do for heroine. That is why Go Ara is also still thinking.

As for Seung-gi-ya ... I'm having trouble imagining him as a cop. A cop who can't read maps and can't find stuff.
Ah well, he's not a traffic cop, anyhow. Maybe he'll be better in the violent crimes unit!

I gotta agree, maybe not the exact same character but his roles often share the same personality traits...loudmouthed, hothead sort of type. But that's like every korean male lead character soo... I guess there's not much variety when it comes to male lead roles in kr dramas.
I kinda long for the day when he plays a subdued and introverted role though..

It's fine to play the same type of character imo as long as they have depth. Kangchi was actually much different (despite being loud) from anyone else he'd played before since he was an actual nice guy throughout the drama. But there wasn't much there in terms of growth either.
Ja Hae was not unlike his other characters being a rich boy with a bad attitude, but he had a lot of layers that made him compelling. So, it does depend on the writing.
