Kolorful Palette: Confrontation in pink [I Need Romance 3]

[And now for something a little different. We’re happy to introduce Fanderay, whose drama-inspired artwork we loved so much that we wanted to share it with everyone. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions, and we hope you’ll look forward to her drawings as much as we do. -girlfriday]

Welcome to the first Kolorful Palette, a weekly Dramabeans column that will feature artwork of our favorite dramas. Each week I’ll find a scene that I like and draw it for you. A couple of you may recognize me from my blog (also named Kolorful Palette) but for now I’ll primarily be posting here. This week’s drawing comes from Episode 11 of I Need Romance 3. Make sure to click the image above to see it at full size!

Although this isn’t a happy scene, it’s a scene that made me happy. A moment of sincerity is always a good thing, and although Wan has tried his best to be honest with Joo-yeon, it’s a step forward to see him also being more honest with himself. There’s a difference between caring about someone and actually wanting to fight for them, and it feels like Wan is finally crossing the line into fighting territory. The best part of this scene might be that bright fuchsia coat though. It took me a minute to even register that it was his, and I keep telling myself that he only agreed to wear it because he knew it would look good on her. Or maybe it’s a loaner from Lee Min-ho.

One thing I love about Wan and Joo-yeon is the parallel between their childhood and adult relationships. Both of them have acted as an unlikely guiding force in the other’s life, and they have both been incredibly lucky to have one another. How many neglected kids never get that perfect babysitter to help them grow up right, and how many adults have derailed their lives, but have no one to force them back on-track? As an adult it’s expected that Joo-yeon should be able to take care of herself, no matter how child-like her needs may be. Thankfully Wan is the pushy type, and even his towering height seems like a symbol that he’s the grown-up now. Unfortunately she doesn’t seem to fully comprehend that yet, and I am left agonizing over her obtuse determination to ignore the man right in front of her. Sigh.

It was an unfortunate week for me, where it seemed all the best scenes to draw were non-OTP in nature. I’d be okay with that, but Tae-yoon needs to be waaaaaaaay nicer if he wants to make the cut. My jaw literally dropped when he told Joo-yeon to stay at Se-ryung’s event because of work. Even if he has no romantic feelings for her whatsoever, shouldn’t he have something nicer to say as a friend? Up until this point I’ve actually liked him, and just assumed he was a little clueless when it came to matters of the heart, but now I’m not so sure. I’m starting to lean towards “jerk with a deceptively warm smile.”

There were a couple other scenes that tempted me this week, for all the wrong reasons of course. This first one because it’s grumpy Wan with a giraffe (’nuff said) and this latter one because it reminded me a bit of myself this week. I was besieged by some horrific stomach flu, and if I owned a “PLEASE” shirt I would most definitely have been wearing it while sprawled out on the bed.

Since this is my first Dramabeans art post, it’s a bit of a test. Feel free to sound off in the comments and let me know what sort of things you’d like to see, and what you’d like me to talk about.

I used to check in on your site every once in a while, a little sad that there weren't any updates. But now you're here! XD

I'm excited for this little segment!!
And while not necessarily a suggestion, if there also happen to be any artists in the discussion, it'd be pretty cool to see other mm, interpretations or styles of the image you're drawing too.

Are most of the images you choose going to be from ongoing dramas, do you think?

I can't wait for your next posts ^^
I hope you'll draw Kang Tae Yoon ^^ (or all the other couples too).

Your drawing inspires me, it's a great idea to draw scenes on dramas. I'll try with painting lol (I miss painting…). It sounds fun.

Welcome to Dramabeans. I'm a long time fan :) That's a beautiful drawing. And like always, you managed to capture her heartbreak and his worry, but my favorite part is the different shades of black on the suit. Yay looking forward to the weekly Kolorful Palette.

Dear Fanderay you have been gifted with an awesome way to depict life, not only through your paintings if not using your words too.

When I saw the coat and the street scene I just thought that you have to be a genious or very lucky to make all the fine details work together aiming to the same: poetry.
Pink is the colour of his kindred heart and he covers her completely with it, and once he has taken his coat off his feelings are one more time, being shown. But this time he wants to be the one who defends her from the world and from herself. He wants to be her knight...This is poetry without the needs of words!

Well done Fanderay! I have definitive turned in one of your fans. (One with a truly short English ;) )

Can you believe, I am just now getting what Kolorful Palette is?

I was like, oh, that's just screen caps....

...then I was like, wait, those aren't screen caps....

...then I was like, what are those pictures...

...then I was like, WOW. o.0

...and then I was like, where has this person been!

So, I went to the beginning. I want to see all of your stuff.

What a wonderful talent you have. Congratulations!
