Trot Lovers secures leading foursome

Upcoming KBS rom-com Trot Lovers has secured its leading cast, headlined by Jung Eun-ji (That Winter The Wind Blows) who has signed on to star opposite Ji Hyun-woo (Queen Inhyun’s Man). Well I’m a happy camper; she’s adorable and talented and they’ll be buckets of cute together. They’ll be joined by second leads Shin Sung-rok (You From Another Star) and Lee Se-young (Hot-Blooded Youth) to round out the love square.

Jung Eun-ji will star as the feisty heroine who works multiple jobs as the breadwinner who supports her father and younger sister. Her mother was a trot singer and she inherited the voice, along with hopes of being a trot singer herself someday. The drama will be about her journey to stardom, and the bickering romance that ignites with Ji Hyun-woo, the arrogant star musician who could not be more opposite in personality. He’ll be prickly and snobby, but he’ll be the person to help her realize her dream.

Shin Sung-rok will play a young agency president, described as a blunt homme fatale. He’ll be an obstacle in the romance, no doubt because he wields power over in his corner of the love square. Lee Se-young has joined the show as a trainee at the agency, a perfect girl-next-door type who has everything at her disposal. Jung Eun-ji will be compared to her in every way, and they’ll be rivals in everything from work to love.

Trot Lovers follows Big Man in June.

Really, I know I'm from an alien culture, but I'm stuck feeling that this sort of remark is about as crude as saying: "I'm glad her voicing recovered after her liposuction" or "She's done well since rushing her baby by having a Cesearean," "She's comfortable and relaxed now that she knows she can get out of donating a kidney to her sister."

Surgery is private. If you're going to praise someone's singing, or condemn their acting, praise their singing or condemn their acting. Don't make trollish personal comments.

The outline seems like any other typical Kdrama (in other words, a major cliche altogether) but I will definitely watch because...what a fantastic cast!

Jung Eun-ji is is spiky yet adorable, and very talented indeed. Ji Hyun-woo also has very natural vibes and is a bag of cuteness overload. Shin Sung-rok left a deep impression for his portrayal as the psychopathic second brother in You Who Came From The Stars. While I have no prior knowledge of Lee Se-young, I expect great chemistry among the leading foursome both on- and off-screen.

It's about time for Seyoung to break away from her child actress typcast. She's a '92-er but has the experience--an impressive and expansive resume, being a child actress and all, to become a lead on a drama. It's actually surprising that she's already 21 when I've seen younger actresses get casted on older roles. Being casted opposite these actors though is a huge leap from Kwak Dong Yeon (Adolescene Medley, young Jungtae from AoF) or even Lee Jong Seok from Boiling Youth. But I'm not going to look a gift horse at the mouth, especially if this brings more opportunity for her to get casted on more mature roles.

This gives me the YB vibes for whatever reason. Which means I'm super excited. But I love Eun-ji so and I'll watch her in anything and everything.

Out of topic: but does anyone have news on the Hong Sister's new drama? Its odd not to have heard anything about it by May. I desperately need some more rom-coms in my life, even is YAS is awesome <3

I've been wondering that myself! Maybe that means a premiere later in the year like You're Beautiful/My Girl? (Oct/Dec or thereabouts?)

Because you know if they had a drama to put out, they'd have a network and timeslot in a heartbeat.

The characters sound pretty cookie cutter (hard working diamond in the rough poor girl who's nice, snobby rich hero, evil manipulative other guy, perfect pretty rival) but I'm looking forward to see them playing around the trot concept. And from the pictures above I think this couple can be called the eye smile couple. Smizes for everyone! Spread the cute!

oh that's nice, I like Lee Se-young, was scared witless of Shin Sung-rok in YFAS, and of course adore Eunji and Ji Hyun-woo even if I miss his quirky teeth :/

I only worry that this may not be a very popular thing ratings-wise, the trot concept is so different and if they stick with it, the drama is going to sound very different, OST-wise, from every other drama out there.

This drama definitely isn't reinventing the wheel, but I kind of don't care at all. In fact, I think it provides a nice balance for Joseon Gunman and some of the other dramas coming up. Sly and Single Again reminded me how much I just enjoy a standard rom-com. It doesn't even have to be close to perfection or anything as long as it delivers on what counts.

Its gonna be fun because most of the young girls want to becoming one of the member of idol groups and the heroine is like opposite of it, she want to become a trot singer which is a rare choice.

Ji hyun woo is such a hottie. His drama Queen Inhyun's Man was interesting. Eunji is a good vocalist and she can act too. Tbh, I feel kind of sad because many people on facebook said Eunji is not pretty and not a hottie because she looks like a 12 year old. However, they cannot deny that she CAN sing. I've always liked her voice. I hope Trot Lovers becomes a big hit. I wish Eunji good luck, success, and a bright future :-)

Standard kdrama tropes, but I'm hoping there's a charm and likeability to this show and cast that will keep me hooked! I'll probably watch it for Eunji's singing anyway.

There's something about trot music that connotes warmth and fun and family, rather than evil makjang - I hope that comes through and that this drama stays lighthearted and fun.

Ji hyun woo!!! I haven't melted to an actors name in over a year! I think I'm crushing on him eer since queen in hyuns man. His character there was gold to me. I'd love to see more dramas with leading characters unlike the usual.

I feel as though this drama will be easy to watch because the second lead, Shin Sung-rok, almost seems to me more like a makjang-hilariouslyridiculoussecondleadthuscomedic kind of person...as in, he often takes up those kinds of roles? because of his resume context, I suppose, I just cant take him seriously as a contending second lead...so our main romance is secure:)

I totally see Eun Ji being the perfect fit for the heroine role!

When it was almost going to be IU, I was a little worried, to be honest, because IU has such a sweet girl-next-door vibe that she'd probably be better off for the 2nd lead's role.

I'm happy that the role was given to Eun-Ji, but now kind of sad that IU won't be in this drama that sounds like a fun ride.

Nonetheless, SOOOOOO looking forward to Hyun Woo and Eun Ji working together!

Wow! Shin Sun-Rok as this character is a major change for me!! Even though he did a wonderful job with his character in You From Another Star, and I hated him, but he's got te skills down. No doubt. I'll be looking forward to this drama!!
