Plus Nine Boys get their girls

Kyung Su-jin, Yoo Da-in, Park Cho-rong, Lee Chae-mi

Now that the boys have been cast in tvN’s new coming-of-age drama Plus Nine Boys, it’s time for each of them to get a girl. I think I like this show’s unusual four-by-four approach, because it feels more like casting a sitcom or large family drama, where nobody has to carry the whole load and there’s (hopefully) a fun storyline for everyone. The drama is about four boys aged 9, 19, 29, and 39, who all suffer from the curse of the nines and face a huge roadblock in their lives. The three youngest are brothers (Kim Young-kwang, Yook Sung-jae, Choi Ro-woon), while Oh Jung-se plays a 39-year-old bachelor desperate to be married.

Rising young actress Kyung Su-jin (Secret Love Affair, Eun-hee, Shark) has been cast to play opposite Kim Young-kwang. He’s a travel planner who’s been carefree most of his life but faces a rough patch as he turns 29 and starts having to reevaluate his whole future. Kyung Su-jin is his coworker from a small town who’s outspoken and rough around the edges but a loyal friend. They’ve actually played a couple once before in the music video for Brown-Eyed Soul’s “You,” which is posted below.

Oh Jung-se’s match will be Yoo Da-in (Suspect, Delicious Life), an ex-girlfriend who suddenly broke up with him one day and left him heartbroken. He’s a workaholic PD who really wants to get married but can’t seem to shake his curse where terrible things happen every time his age ends in nine. She’s the one that got away, and when they meet again she’s a single mom, and will play herself at both 29 and 39 as we watch their relationship unfold in both timelines.

Yook Sung-jae plays the 19-year-old middle brother and hot-tempered judo athlete who’s a senior in high school. A-Pink’s Park Cho-rong plays a cute girl with a secret, who also has the entire district’s high school boys swooning over her. Meanwhile Yook Sung-jae keeps running into her all over town, and decides they’re fated to be together.

The youngest brother, played by Choi Ro-woon, is a 9-year-old child star who’s famous for food commercials. He faces the first slump in his career (hahahaha) when he loses a job to a new child actor for the first time ever. He’s in a two-year secret relationship (pffft) with Lee Chae-mi (Gold Rainbow, Two Weeks), also a child star. They’re already too cute for words individually; I don’t know what we’ll do when they’re together. Is it weird that theirs is the story I’m looking forward to the most?

Plus Nine Boys follows Marriage Not Dating in late August.

Gah that girl-boy love line is the most adoooorkable thing ever! I just love both the child actors. Even if everything sucks, I know I'll forgive it because those two are gonna be cuter than the cutest puppies ever.

Can't wait for this! Kdramas should do it more often. Romance without love triangles is rarer than Won Bin doing anything other than CFs!

OMG. This is all about the nine-year olds for me. I AM SO STOKED. They are so adorable!!! I mean, I'm excited for the other lovelines too, but the kid's romance is what's making this drama a must-watch.

The trailer was kinda slow, but I was riveted, because the way the shot was being set up I was certain she was going to get smacked by the Truck of Doom. She was perfectly positioned for it, too, right in the middle of the screen.

was that the trailer? Thought it was the music video. Wouldve been hilarious if the truck of doom did come tho.

They could ruin that potentially adorable child romance storyline, though, by being overly precious. Hopefully they exercise a little restraint.

Loved that little girl in 2 Weeks! She is so pretty in this photo with long curls.
How cute is it going to be when she is coupled with the little boy who played young Joo Won in Good Doc? It's gonna to cuteness overload! We sure can use some pure joy in our lives!

Yup, my thoughts exactly.

I loved Chae-mi in Two Weeks and the boy from Good Doctor even though I didn't finish it.

This drama is now on my radar just from those two.

Man, the premise of this show sounds incredibly interesting and it looks like a lot of narrative as well as stylistic norms that are plaguing a lot of dramas could very well be broken or at least become subject to some form of update/change. I will definitely eagerly await this show to broadcasted.
