JTBC youth drama Heroes casts Lee Elijah

Hm, how do I feel about this? JTBC’s “youth drama” Heroes, which recently cast FT Island idol Choi Jong-hoon in the lead, has now cast Lee Elijah (Wonderful Season, Basketball) as another lead.

In Heroes, she will play the only character attending university; she’s a computer programming major who, like the typical modern twentysomething, is fixated on attaining the proper “specs” (i.e., resumé builders) in order to secure a good career and future. I do wish we were given more information about the plot since “youth drama” is so vague, but this is all we know for sure.

As for casting: On the one hand, Lee Elijah was pretty cringe-inducing in Basketball, and I found her acting not only inexperienced but sometimes even confusing—as in, I wasn’t even sure what she was intending to convey, never mind how well she conveyed it. But on the other hand, she was tons better in the family drama Wonderful Season, where she played the offbeat, idol-loving elementary-school teacher who romanced Taecyeon. In fact, if I’d seen her in Wonderful Season first I wouldn’t have thought anything of her other than that she seemed like a nice, bubbly rookie; it’s probably too bad that she got cast in a more complicated and ambitious role as her debut.

Heroes is experimenting with a different format for its run, planning to air one episode weekly for a total of 24 episodes. (Oh man who has that kind of patience? And suddenly I wonder how I ever made it through a full season of American television…)

Never seen her in anything so I have no opinion on her acting. BUT, I'm looking forward to more news on this "youth drama".

I reeeeealy hope K-dramas don't start doing this one ep per week thing. Three Musketeers, Surplus Princess, HS:LO... I'm getting this naggy feeling that this will be a solution to live shooting. Which, on one hand is a good thing, but it would drive me insane having to watch dramas that air for 4-6 months. That's like a weekender I never watch...

Japan does once a week, but the dramas are usually 10-11 episodes, so it doesn't feel as stretched out. Plus, they don't do live-shooting.

Korea should just stop live-shooting altogether. The quality of dramas would increase and the actors' lives too.

I kinda agree with that. Like, I mean it's true that it would make the actors' lives better without all the screaming and such of the fans, but at the same time, doing live shooting would make the scenes look more realistic and convincing. -shrugs- oh wells XD Just my opinion >u<

This is why I feel bad that talented people like Im Joo-eun don't get lead roles but someone like Lee Elijah does.

After the disaster that Basketball – and her acting in it – was... *rolls eyes*

You don't cast rookies or inexperienced, sub-par actors in lead roles, you cast those that you know can deliver. Well, this isn't what happens, but when that happens I pretty much always skips those dramas / directors / producers.

honestly don't feel bad though...Im Joo Eun probably wouldn't want a lead in this...she'd probably want a juicier role on prime time-slot in a major broadast station like KBS, etc

She was so out of her depth in Basketball I almost felt sorry for her. I haven't seen Wonderful Season, but she needs some serious acting classes.

Her agency is really good at getting her roles though? There's no buzz around her whatsoever and she's got another lead role. This show sounds fun but I hope she can show some improvement this time.
