Rain up to romance Ha Ji-won, or maybe Kang So-ra

Huh, isn’t Rain a lucky guy: According to latest reports, he is fielding offers to headline not one but two of the hottest upcoming dramas in pre-production. One is the In Time With You remake about longtime best friends falling in love that’s courting Ha Ji-won, titled The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days, and the other is the new Hong sisters drama potentially starring Kang So-ra, titled Warm and Cozy. According to his rep, he is considering both offers equally and has not made any decisions yet.

I’m a little confused at a few of the details being reported, because as recently as two days ago we heard that The Time I’ve Loved You had extended the leading man offer to Lee Jin-wook, and as far as the news goes, we’ve heard nothing of him rejecting the role. Perhaps he quietly declined, or maybe they’re both in the running?

That aside, I can see why Rain might be a fit for The Time I’ve Loved You, since he’s worked with writer Min Hyo-jung before in 2004’s mega-hit Full House, which extended his Hallyu fame and solidified his transition from pop singer to actor. Age-wise and image-wise, I can see him playing longtime buddies with Ha Ji-won, and the two were previously paired in a music video back in 2008 for “Love Story” (see below). Still, I much preferred the idea of Lee Jin-wook in that role, so I’d be disappointed to have Rain step in when I got so excited about that other thing. (I know, that’s my fault for getting excited.)

Warm and Cozy seems an odder fit to me, since that’s the role that had previously courted Kim Woo-bin, and I’m pretty sure most of us wouldn’t think of Kim Woo-bin and Rain as actors who’d go up for the same roles. And opposite Kang So-ra? Erm.

There was a time in my life when I was a huge Rain fan, but sadly, I realized with the incredibly awkward and milquetoast She’s So Lovable that that love has waned. To be fair, that drama’s terrible writing and acting were contributing factors, and neither of those things will be in play with these two dramas. Even so, I would rather hold out for a better fit in both cases.

The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days is currently looking at a weekend timeslot on SBS, to begin in June after Divorce Lawyer in Love. Over on MBC, Warm and Cozy plans to air in May.

Once I pictured the Gong Yoo and Ha Jiwon pairing in my head it's become really hard to think/accept any other possibility :'(
I don't mind any of these actors but...but...Gong Yoo...or Jo Insung maybe :'(

No no nooooooooo. Why is he up for the two dramas that I'm most excited about?! I hate it when it takes so long for fav actors to get cast, consider and until months later accept or decline. And in the end someone else entirely takes the part.*grumps*

Rain may be popular but his acting calibre is not anywhere up there with Ha Ji won. The video clip may look cute but then again Ha Ji Won can emote chemistry with a fly.
*Vote for Hyun Bin & Ha Ji Won reunion*

Now that people put Gong Yoo in my mind, I can't think of any-one but him as Li Da Ren :( I have nothing against Rain, but he isn't my dream cast in either of the dramas.

I think I like the pairing with Ha Ji-won better, but it's my beloved RAIN so I'll take him in anything. Neither project seems to have the potential to suck like the dreadfully boring She's So Loveable so I'm game!

Please please PLEASE bring uri RAIN back to the small screen!!

I personally will like it if rain goes for the hong sisters drama. I have hard time imagining Rain and Ha Ji Won as couple...
Also if it's a Taiwanese/Japanese drama remake I would really really want any of my favorite actors/actress to stay away from it since they tend to fall in the trap of the originals over acting style...
I personally don't think Rain replacing Kim Woo Bin is a problem. Each actor brings in new style in a character with their own style and interpretation. So it can be just as enjoyable if he can make it so with his acting.
Also I like Kang So Ra a lot and would love to see Rain-Sora pairing!

I've honestly not really cared for the dramas I have seen Rain in. I also agree that him being in consideration for Warm and Cozy is a bit odd. I'm also not sure how I feel about him being in a Hong sisters drama because, even though Hong sister dramas are usually not flawless, they're good fun and I tend to enjoy watching them.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong?

Ah thanks JB for posting that music video - I completely had forgotten seeing that. I personally like this pairing (much more so than lee jin wook) and even though appearance-wise Rain doesn't look like a beta-male, if it is anything like the part of the music video where he is getting his ear pinched and scolded by HJW, I think the drama will be great!

While I disagree that Rain is a "good" actor, I think I agree that Kang So-ra is currently very over-hyped. She had a few minor roles in movies and was really bad in "Dream High 2". Other than that, "Fool Watch", "Doctor Stranger" and "Misaeng", yes, all pretty solid jobs, but still a very limited repertoire for the rave she is getting right now. Not to mention that all three of those roles are very far away from a Hong Sister comedy female lead role (that are not easy to pull off, as even accomplished actresses had to experience).

I'm not saying that Kang So-ra will fail, it's just that there is very little "evidence" towards her skill in such a role, both positively and negatively.

I want to see rain act as a bad boy again like in "A Love To Kill." Rain and Shin Min-A should star in a drama again.

idk... She's so forgettable is still stuck in my head, and no, not for a good reason.

i know a lot of people loves rain. my sister became a hardcore fan of him after watching full house.

tbh, full house isn't really that great. and rain's acting in that drama was mediocre to say the least. the only reason full house became a hit and pretty much a legend in kdrama land is because of the different and cute plot. if full house was made after the year 2010, i don't think it will be as successful as it was in 2004.

rain is a charming guy, as seen in variety shows. but every time i watch him in a drama or movie, i find that he's still awkward to look at when he acts. he's a hallyu star alright, but he's no A-list actor (sorry Rain's fans)

i really2 hope it wont be him to be ha ji won's leading man. i don't want it to be she's so forgettable version 2

Why do an "English" version of a video when all the rest of the video is still in Korean?

I don't really have any opinion on what the actual article is about...although, I don't find Kim Woo-bin cute/sexy. It looks like one of his eyes is lazy and that supersedes EVERY other thing about him.

Odd one out here? Maybe or maybe not, but I've only seen Rain act in Full House and My Lovely Girl (aka She’s So Loveable). Full House wasn't anything really to go gaga over or write home about. And as others here have attested to, She's So Loveable was NOT - anything but!

Although Rain was fairly decent, the pairing of Krystal with Rain was just a big-time NO all around. I was really turned off by Krystal's acting or lack thereof. It says a lot when even the dog (Dal Bong) outacted/outshined her.

Considering the limitations of what Rain had to work with (plot, writing/script, etc.) hopefully he can blot out the mess that was MLG on his acting resume quickly like Lee Jong-Seuk was able to remove all the traces and pain of Doctor Stranger with Pinocchio.

Therefore, I'm happy for Rain to be in contention for the male lead in both the Hong Sisters drama Warm and Cozy and the Ha Ji-Won drama The Time I Loved You, 7000 days.

Seems like dramas like "Full House", "My Girl", "Princess Hours". F4, "Secret Garden", etc. were popular more for their casting and gimmicks than having an actual well written script and acting.

All I can say is PLEASE GOD NO NOT RAIN.

I'm not much of a fan (he's very handsome but just doesn't do it for me), and I tend to not like the vibe/energy that he brings to his characters. These two dramas have so much potential, I just want them to pleaseee steer clear of him !

He's not really even handsome.

Rain even acknowledges it and why he had to bust his butt in making it as a K-pop star.

Nooooo! He can't be lead playing Bolin's role. Rain can play Sunny's (the ex-) role instead. Pardon but the male lead for ITWY needs to have a wholesome image and frankly Rain is too badass for that part. Consider that an asset Rain. ;)

Ack! I'm still in the corner for Gong Yoo for ITWY, but with Rain in the picture - I'll bat for Lee Jin Wook. Of all the things I've seen Rain in, I thought he did a great job in I'm a Cyborg but It's OK film - a bit goofy and lovable. Li Da Ren character had a seriousness and a sense of devotion that I just don't see Rain pulling off. I am picturing lines that Chen Bolin delivered to Ariel Lin that sounded endearing but with Rain I think would come across just cheesy.

Now that Woo Bin is out of the picture, the only actor I see working with Kang Sora is Park Seo Joon. He made continue to watch 'Witch's Romance' when it was a drama I was very reluctant to watch. I loved him in 'Kill Me, Heal Me'. I think he'd have great chemistry with Kang Sora that I just don't see her having with Rain.

As far as Ha Ji Won's drama goes, if this Rain pairing was happening around 2008/2009, I would have been all over it. Now that Gong Yoo isn't available, I'd rather see her with Lee Jin-wook.

For some strange reason though, if Kim Sun Ah came back to dramaland, I would actually love to see her reunite with Rain. They were a lot of fun when they were rehearsing together for his comeback show years back.

People are so mean. If the actor has one failed project, the audience will call them suck at actings. We have to remember there many factors that support Incredible acting of an actor. Script writings, directors, characters, co-stars. That's why the success of the drama are from all of those components.

I'm not a fan of Rain neither Lee Jin Wook. But when people start bashing them saying they're suck in actings and so on while it's not 100% true, it's so irritating.

Rain got recognitions/ awards from his previous works whether in movies/ dramas. But Lee Jin Wook, he doesn't has any hit dramas nor awards/recognitions. But I don't wanna say Rain is better than Lee Jin Wook either. I'm not hating anyone here but when you start saying bad things about another person, at least you have your basic data to be argued.

And the background of idols or singers also always making problem for them to be recognized as good actors. Not to mention if those idols/singers have superior visual. People will judge their actings are bad even though their are pretty good actor just because their looks overshadowed their talents. What a life...

Rain rain go away come again another day...ugh watched the first episode of his previous drama with krystal and honestly he just seemed so slimy, boring and cheesy to me. Maybe it was just his character in the drama but one thing is for sure, it did not make me watch anymore episodes. I was so excited for In Time With You, thought lee jin wook would accept the offer.. ?
Anyway, actors can improve so I'm willing to give the drama a chance regardless of who will be casted. ☺
