Divorce Lawyer in Love eyes a two-episode extension

Interestingly, SBS’s Divorce Lawyer in Love is considering a two-episode extension, which is a surprise since the weekend rom-com isn’t doing very well in the ratings. But the latest news out of the show is that SBS is looking to extend its 16-episode run to 18, pushing its finale another week.
According to a source with the broadcaster’s drama department, the show had considered both two-episode and four-episode extensions before settling on two. Usually extending a show doesn’t require an explanation since the reason is obvious (it’s a hit, ratings are climbing, ad slots are sold out), but in this case I’m curious since Divorce Lawyer’s ratings have been squarely in the 4%-5% range, making an extension a distinctly unconventional move.
(One source offered that Divorce Lawyer has had comparatively good ratings to its predecessor show… but considering that My Heart Twinkle Twinkle bottomed out at 2.0% ratings and got cut from 50 episodes to 26, I really don’t think that’s much of an argument.)
I suspect this has more to do with the show to follow than with Divorce Lawyer itself, as The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days recently had a PD switch. Just a few days ago, that show lost its main PD (Jo Soo-won of Pinocchio) and replaced him with a second PD (Go Jae-hyun of Syndrome), and now we have news that they’ve added a third PD, Kang Il-soo, who directed sageuks Emperor of the Sea, Kingdom of the Wind, and Jeon Woo-chi. (There’s no word that PD Go has quit, so I’m presuming that PD Kang will be joining him, not replacing outright.) I really hope this PD dance doesn’t bode ill for The Time I’ve Loved You, which sound so promising with its lifelong-friends-to-lovers premise, but at least the newest addition has quite a bit more experience under his belt. Experience is good, right?
In any case, The Time I’ve Loved You can only be helped by gaining more prep time, so I’ll try to see this all in a positive light. And Divorce Lawyer is a light, peppy comedy with very cute leads and a plot that’s pretty easy to watch, so I won’t mind a few extra hours.
Divorce Lawyer in Love airs on Saturdays and Sundays. If the extension is finalized, it’ll end on June 14 with Episode 18.

I agree that this is mostly a "sacrificial" extension to buy more time for the follow-up.
From a dramatic composition point of view the extension makes no sense at all. Not sure how the DLiL writer wants to squeeze out 8 more episodes from where they are now ...

They really should've just added a drama special or a BTS episode for a week instead of extending a drama and ruining its flow. Sure they're having issues with their replacement drama, but why screw up the current one?
K-ITWY sounds like a hot mess, what with adding a PD that has 3 sageuks in his resume for experience. I wish HJW can someone pull out. This is obviously not what she signed up for.

I thought it was 20 episodes anyway. Koreandrama.org had it at 20 when I initially looked it up. As a viewer, I was wondering about the pacing of the show if it was going for 20 episodes but now seeing that it was intended for 16 eps I can understand the pacing a bit more. I wouldn't mind an extension if they didn't resort to the usual tropes to waste our time. As for the reason behind the extension, I'd guess it's to give Time I Loved You a bit more kead time to solidify tge production value b/c they're banking on it being a hit.

I am sad for the leads of 7000 days and honestly just anyone involved. I hope it's not the case but it just seems like it's going to be mess. Hope this cools the remake trend.

Actually, I found this romcom far better than My Heart Twinkle Twinkle, also better from MBC delusional makjang Queen's Flower. I can't believe Koreans still always tune on MBC in the weekend after MBC makjang parade in the last 3 decades. It's culture, or just rating game? I still remember SBS's Incarnation of Money also suffered by MBC's Hundred Years Inheritance, but when the SW team go to MBC, they can even break the record with Empress Ki.

i love my heart twinkle twinkle so much i even thought this is the best drama of 2015 this is the only drama that i finish this year. how many time you will see bad guy as the lead, the story is not shallow like the other drama

DLiL is my fav current drama - so 2 more episodes is good news. Hopefully, the writer(s) will handle it well with cute and fun stuff!
Love the cast and the various divorce case of the week has been interesting and fun!
Kdramaland shows people getting together for many and varied reasons - and this is the first time i have seen it show the the opposite!
Go Cheok Hee (played by Cho Yeo-Jeong) and So Jeong Woo (played by Yeon Woo-Jin) is my favorite couple - they are so cute!!
Of course the ever handsome but never-get-the-girl - Shim Hyung Tak is so fun to watch as the Richie Rich lawyer second lead.

I'm frustrated that Shim Hyung Tak never gets the girl. Like you say he is fun to watch. I like him since Brain where he did get the nuna nurse, but after that he is indeed the never get the girl guy despite he plays the rather cute second male lead like in Let's Eat and here.

Up to now, the second leads have been harmless and likable. But getting the main couple together already by ep 8, I'm not looking forward to the complications that the writers will have to come up with to keep them apart. Still, I like this show very much.

When a drama has more than one director, is one the main director and the other his subordinate? I'm assuming only one director is working on each individual ep, right? Or are both of them directing the same ep? If they take turns, can viewers tell the difference?

A drama has more than one PD is not uncommon in Korea.. Case in point, HJW's last drama, Empress Ki. The drama has 2 PDs, but one of them is head/main PD. Simple, they just split the burden for shooting. For ex, one PD directed outdoor scenes, the other directed indoor scenes.
If we watch EK closely, there's quite a difference from PD styles and the outcomes.. the outdoor scenes were superior than the indoor. The cinematography and camerawork is better on the outdoor scenes too.

I LOVE this drama! Actually I liked the initial few episodes more but now that Go Cheok Hee is in love, I am kind a bit let down because the romance came too soon and they didn't show her growth chart as a human being form being too rude to becoming more understanding. They just pushed the romance part...but still the drama is quite interesting and entertaining.
BTW, I watched "A daughter just like you" and it is quite entertaining and funny! I hope someone reviews it or subs it.
I am tired of Korean School dramas and hope they concentrate on adults too and show college love dramas or on adult working love stories because school dramas are so cliche and whenever I see those kids having love dilemmas and pondering on life and such, it feels so unreal because at that age they should be studying or discovering themselves...
College dramas are missing greatly in S. Korea.
Also adult love dramas that are coming out are boring and unoriginal... it's been a while since I saw any drama that really shook my heart.
I love School: Who are you for the entertainment although it is a school based but I hope they show less of the 3 way love agony and concentrate on Eun Bi's growth and seeking out the truth of Eun Byul's death...
P.S. I am not really excited about the extension even if I love this drama.

Yeah, Korean need more college dramas. I think last year was only Naeil's Cantabile. I don't recall other dramas that focus more on these age brackets.
They can covered so many things with Korean University especially on SKY or Korean Big 3 unis culture.
It's either high school or adult romance.

Well, you guys are in luck. There's the webtoon adaptation Cheese in a Trap.
Not exactly the riveting type of college drama,but I think it's pretty realistic and grounded into the college life.
Other than that, I agree, more college drama please.

I don't mind the extension as long as I can swooning over yeon woo jin (lol) but yeah, hoping the plot will not go down because right now, just like others said, the romance is too fast. I want to see their bickering, the hidden feelings and jealousy. What left is the obstacle from the 3rd party *sigh8

No, you're not alone. They're reasonably cute but frankly the chemistry in Marriage Not Dating was vastly better. Heck even the two male leads had chemistry there!
Since the show revolves around a series of divorce B-stories it's possible they can pad this with an extra pair of episodes without going to extremes.

I realllllyyyyy enjoy this show! So im okay with it having more episodes, i just hope the writers dont mess up the flow as well. I havent watched the other shows cos frankly i only care about this one. Hahaha!
