Moon Chae-won offered lead in SBS’s Goodbye Mr. Black

I like this news: Moon Chae-won (Good Doctor) is currently considering the drama Goodbye Mr. Black, the recently announced manhwa-adapted series based on a Count of Monte Cristo-inspired premise.

She’s not confirmed and has said she’ll wait to see the script before deciding (she’s read the synopsis and reportedly liked it), but if she took the role it would pretty much seal the deal for me—she’d do wonderfully in a thriller-melo, and I love Count of Monte Cristo revenge-romances. There’s just something about the setup that works really well in dramaland, whether you’re talking Green Rose or Golden Cross or any other drama about a character who gets betrayed by a friend, loses a lover, reinvents himself with a new identity, and goes avengin’.

Moon Chae-won’s character wouldn’t be the hero’s former sweetheart (as you’d expect in a more straightforward Monte Cristo tale, where he’d win her back from his enemy’s clutches), but rather one of the friends he meets while in Australia. Described as tough and determined, she returns with him to England (along with a third friend), and they’ll help him deliver some justice to his backstabbers. Ah, I like that—and if she’s already on his side, maybe we’ll actually get some revenge up in this revenge story. (Don’t you hate when K-drama revenge stories fizzle out and end in reconciliation and/or forgiveness instead? C’mon, screw healing. I’m watching for the blood’n’guts’n’payback.)

Goodbye Mr. Black will be an SBS drama written by Moon Hee-jung of Can You Hear My Heart and I Miss You; it’s planning to premiere later this year.

I personally like it when revenge stories end up in reconcilation. You see, too many times dramas overempasize revenge and unforgivingness. Dramas or movies are supposed to have a warm ending to make you feel full, happy and inspired. It's a strange thing to know that you are sorta what you watch a lot of. So it's better to watch warm nice dramas than revenge wreckin' dramas!

Isn't jung il woo already attached to a film (drama?) opposite jin seyeon tho? I mean, sounds like it'd be a huge mess with her as a lead but I don't think he will be available unfortunately.

I wanna see lee min ho as the male lead! Firstly because he suits this genre (cough city hunter. Cough gangnam blues). Secondly because him and MCW would make a hot pair. And thirdly because I wanna piss off the people on this site who are dissing on LMH.

why no one ever consider Jisung in this?? He would be awesome in this. Moon Chae Won should pair up with strong actor too. Lately, she always co-star with amazing actors. I hope the production cast someone as good as them.

30's actors
1. Jisung
2.Jo In Sung
3. Jung Kyung Ho
4. Hyun Bin
5. Go Soo

20's actors:
1. Kim Soo Hyun
2. Ji Chang Wook
3. Kim Woo Bin
4. Park Yoochun

hello! great list you have there. tbh, i loooove jisung as an actor and he would kick ass in this role BUT i don't see him and MCW together lol.

out of your list, for the 30's actors i think hyun bin would be the best fit for her. next is jung kyung ho :)

out of the 20's, KSH is my first choice for OBVIOUS reasons (i'm thirsty to see them as an onscreen couple it would make me so damn happy) and kim woo bin after him. ji chang wook looks waaay too young for moon chae won and i find this role calls for a male lead that is older/looks atleast her age.

& i've never though yoochun was a great actor. none of his works has ever impressed me (i miss you, SKKS, and rooftop prince--this was my fav project of his but even here, he wasn't super strong) i think he does best in romcoms and doesn't have the acting chops to pull a character like this off. plus, isn't he enlisting soon?

Agree. Park Yoochun is overrated. He's lucky most of his drama had pretty good ratings (*huge fandom support)+ great co-stars) but he never stole the shows. In 20s, Yoo Ah In or Choi Jin Hyuk is much better than him even though his awards maybe less than any other actors out there.

MCW fandom is unbelievable overacting and drag all actors, judging them like a pro woah! Now I pray LMH will get the offer and accept coz it will be fun to read the comments again! Judging actors by watching half of their projects only are so wrong! And I've seen MCW in Love Forecast, man, she was so bad there! honestly I dont really like her acting in other projects too but Love Forecast was so terrible! so I can say her a bad actress too, right?!

Well, it is all a matter of personal opinion. No need to attack MCW for people's overrreaction on actors (although. i also hope they can keep it down). Most people likes her acting in Love Forecast while you said it is bad and that's totally fine. Same as them expressing their own opinions about what they likes when it comes to acting. I think we just have different taste when it comes to acting.

agree, she's mediocre and bland

well you think lee min ho is a good actor so I don't think you are qualified to judge acting talent lol

You must not have seen his movie. So as much as you do not want ppl to judge MCW, i dun think u should judge YC for a few works u watched. Just FYI i really think MCW overacted in Today Love and very bland in Good Doctor.

I watched his dramas even his new movie that's why I said he never stole the show. In his new movie, he supposed to speak satoori (such kinda korean area accent, and it became so awkward). I watched missing U, Yoo Seung Ho stole the show. Rooftop Prince, Jung Yu Mi stole the show. Syungkwan Scandal, Yoo Ah In-Soo Jong Ki stole the show. Even his latest drama, Shin She Kyung was much better than him.

From what I see,I don't see them dragging all actors. Just younger actors and it upset some people because their biases got dragged down. The comments here don't represent the opinions of her fans in general though.

oh wait now i understand lmao I dun think we can talk about acting together.

JYM is bad in RTP, even her enunciation is very bad for an actress. And SSK is endearing and adorable, but overacting in her funny scenes and underacting in some emotion scenes. I guess u just have different "standard" and "taste" of acting from other, if u said those stole the show for u.

Or u actually haven't watched those at all as u said, it is ok, u don't have to act like u watched them to prove the point.

I never quite saw a actress like moon chae-won that can make you feel her vulnerability and strength. I always sympathize with the character she plays. Glad to see her return to tv.

He's is a good actor but imo not quite fits for the male lead for this drama. Like I said before I really prefer Joo Jin Mo or Eric Moon. Sorry loh

Gosh mcw fans are so annoying, you insult and ridicule other actors just to make a point...this are the kind of fans that will make you hate on an actress, and what on earth is so special about her that other korean actresses don't have?one would think her so called 'talent'can cure cancer. SMH.

The commenters here are not represent the fandom or the general fans in general. I understand the frustrations of some of you and I also think they are too outspoken and insensitive. But there are always some bad apples in every fandom and that includes the fandoms of those actors whom got insulted. My point is, just ignore those unpleasant comments and take it with a grain of salt.

I WOULD SHIP THIS SO HARD.

actually, i wanted him to do naughty things to her so bad when he captured her in that film. LMAO. i have such a dirty mind xD

but seriously, he has that hot bad boy vibe that will be a great fit for this role. only problem is, idk if he has a big enough name to star alongside her? i would so support though.
