Lee Sung-min returns to tvN to headline new drama Memory

They should just give Lee Sung-min his own parking space at tvN, don’tcha think? He and Sung Dong-il could high-five each other on their way in and out of the network’s high-profile shows. After starring in their 2014 mega-hit Misaeng, he’s returning to the cable network in 2016 to headline the new drama Memory, from the writer-director team behind Resurrection, Devil, and Shark.

The new human drama from PD Park Chan-hong and writer Kim Ji-woo is about a lawyer with Alzheimer’s disease who puts his life on the line to fight one final case before losing his memories. Lee Sung-min has been cast as the lead character, lawyer Park Tae-seok. He gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and takes on one last case even as his memories begin to deteriorate, and in the process, he’ll discover just how precious life is and how much he loves his family.

Clearly I’m going to be crying buckets of tears if Lee Sung-min is playing a family man who clings to every last precious memory. He does world-weary dad so well. This casting certainly differentiates the drama from SBS’s Remember, which seems really similar in theme. But that one focuses on a much younger lawyer — Yoo Seung-ho — with too much memory to contend with, and I don’t think I’ll be confusing them anymore.

Lee Sung-min is confirmed for the part, and casting is underway for the other main characters. Not much else has been revealed about the plot, but from this writer I think we can expect a tense and twisty battle. I’m in it for the human drama, but let’s be real — if he’s going to throw everything into one last case, he’d better win big and take some baddies down with him, hard.

Memory is set to follow Signal on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning in March.

LSM finally got the big break he always deserved with Misaeng. He's one of my favorite Korean actors and one of the best in kdrama land. I saw him for the first time in King 2 Hearts and couldn't believe it was him in the next role I saw him in. He plays everything well!

Anyway, so excited he has a lead role and I can't wait for this! The only thing I'm weary of is memory dramas becoming the next trend of one or both these dramas are hits.

Too bad MK wasn't as popular as it should have been - LSM was really great in it as well as rest of the cast (and the writing).

LSM and SDI are 2 of my faves.

He was really excellent in King2Hearts. Good he was awarded as Best Actor at Baeksang for Misaeng this year. He is the best amongst the few nominees and deserves the recognition. Shld not be a problem with the coming drama as he is really versatile.

They cast Lee Sung-min because they know he'll rip our hearts out and trample on them. It was hard enough to recover from the last drama about Alzheimer's, Soo Ae's a Thousand Days' Promise, heck I even skipped the end, I just knew I wouldn't be able to handle it. At least it was just SA and KRW, Lee Sung-min will have a family, that's a lot of grieve. Is it until March enough time to collect every tissue there is in the world.

In short: he's perfect for the role.

Ok. So I am torn here on whether to watch this. On one hand I think Lee Sung Min is one of the greatest actors in the world and this sounds like a role that he will absolutely nail taking acting to whole new epic levels of awesomeness.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I'm not sure I want to cry myself into an early grave while spending my life savings on tissues. I just don't like dramas that make me cry all the time, and with LSM playing a character like this there is no way I want cry myself to death. Ottokae?

Just in case you haven't watched it yet... please do!
Yes there is some crying, but not all the time, and most of the time it's not the desperate kind, but the sweet kind. You will finish this drama elated and refreshed, full of hope and love.

Okay! Now that we have Lee Sung-min, maybe they can put together my dream team of ajusshi actors.

How about Kim Myung-min, Sung Dong-il, Cho Jae-hyun and Jo Jae-yoon too?

And to round out my team, great ladies Lee Il-hwa and Yoon Yuh-jung.

Please, please, pretty please? Writers and PD are you listening? (There's nothing wrong with a little begging when it's for a noble cause!)

I first noticed him as that comic relief neighbourhood ajusshi in 'Can You Hear My Heart'. Another ajusshi stole the show though, the equally talented Jeong Bo Suk, actually the grandmother stole the show too. And wait Namgoong Min. And Hwang Jung Eum. Ok everyone was brilliant inside, Lee Sung Min is equally believeable whether it as petty side character or as an official with world on his shoulders gravitas.
