Kang So-ra considers human drama Neighborhood Lawyer with Park Shin-yang

Ooh, I’m suddenly more interested in this drama: She may have turned down Rain’s fantasy-melo drama Come Back, Ajusshi, but it looks like we’ll get another chance to see Kang So-ra (Warm and Cozy) back on TV with the upcoming drama Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho. The lead role was offered to Park Shin-yang (Sign) back in November, and while he has not yet finalized, he’s reportedly “considering positively,” while Kang So-ra has recently received the offer and intends to make a decision “shortly.”

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho is based around a classic underdog setup: Adapted from a webtoon, it features a man who seemed poised to enjoy a shining career as a prosecutor, as well as becoming future son-in-law to the head of a major law firm. But then he reports internal corruption in the prosecutor’s office and it all goes sideways, as he loses his prosecutor job and has to start over as a small-time lawyer. He sets up a small neighborhood practice and starts to build his career back up and work for the people. Were she to accept, Kang So-ra would play a lawyer, Lee Eun-jo, who works at a major law firm.

The drama seems like it’ll be an uplifting human drama that’ll get us pulling for the hero’s arc, which sounds promising. It also has my attention for being the next drama by director Lee Jung-sub, who last directed Healer. (The writing was really the highlight of that drama, but I won’t turn my nose down at the directing; I’m always grateful when I come across a show that gets me excited for whatever reason.) Writing is Lee Hyang-hee, who wrote sageuk drama King’s Face last year and also 2007’s War of Money, which also starred Park Shin-yang in another underdog-triumph storyline and was a huge ratings hit at the time.

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho is set to premiere in March, following KBS’s current Monday-Tuesday drama Moorim School.

I heard she already confirmed?

Anyway, I hope this turns out decent, Kang Sora's had really bad luck with mainstream primetime tv projects despite her acting never being the problem. And KBS' Mon-Tues slot is not exactly a place to seek ratings success....I'd be happier if she stuck to movies and the odd good cable project. (she herself said it'd be hard to get a role as good as hers in Misaeng but another cable series would be less of a waste of her).

I like underdog stories so I may watch for story alone. Neither Kang So-ra nor Park Shin-yang are a big draw for me, though.

Did anyone read the webtoon? Is there any romantic angle between the two characters they're going to play? I hope not...In that case the pairing looks a bit odd.If this is totally a work based drama, maybe I would be okay.

I've never seen Park Shin-yang in anything but one of my good friend swears hell and back that he's as terrible as the word can possibly describe lol. So for Kang Sora's sake, I hope that's not the case because I'm not really into the premise either.

Now I think Comeback Ahjusshi would've been the better choice simply going by costars. I like a whole lot of actors in that drama, but who knows? Kang Sora has made some terrible choices in her career with the exclusion of Misaeng so I hope she can get it right this time.

It's generally Kang Sora's prime time Big 3 tv choices that sucked, and those were script/writer fails since most viewers seem to be in agreement that she'd made a valiant effort despite having nothing to work with.

I mean, you have Dream High 2, Dr Stranger and Warm & Cozy, but on the film/other tv choices, you have Sunny, Ugly Alert and Misaeng.

(and I won't lie, Park Shin-yang is probably going to look like an odd pairing with her, but I hope this doesn't go as badly as Lukewarm & Dozy. Or worse, DS!)

I heard she's already accepted this offer. Yay for having more Sora on my screen! I do hope she can create a new character and not let it be a mimic of Ahn Young-yi.

Regarding her past dramas for with the exception of Misaeng, when the overall drama fails it's just hard to keep watching through my love for her. Kang Sora is really good at the emotional aspects so I feel like she seems to do better at dramas that have more melo aspects.

I also just realised this might mean more Kang Sora in office wear! I loved her office fashion in Misaeng, so I'm also looking forward to see what she wears.

The King's Face was horribly written, so no luck there. From what little I saw Healer had serious tonal issues, but the poor guy couldn't have done much with a trendy-in-genre's-clothing that wouldn't end up feeling like a parody of itself, anyway. idk. I'd have more hopes for the PD than the writer at this point.

It does seem a strange pairing if it turns romantic--it raised eyebrows to pair Park Shin-yang with Moon Geun-young, and that was eight years ago lol. He's prone to overacting but other than that he's okay.

All in all I think Kang So-ra traded up, although neither projects are looking very promising on paper. Only time will tell.

Seems like I'm not the only one that go 'huh' with Park Shin Yang. I've watched Painter of The Wind, and I do think that he's not good at acting.

Sounds good. I hope she takes it.(if he confirms too). Please - no more pretty boys who can't act.

"Pretty boys who can't act"? That wasn't the primary problem with "Doctor Stranger" or "Warm and Cozy". Or "DH2" (despite the fact that both boys couldn't act).

(Kang So-ra, you certainly have a disastrous track record in prime time dramas.)

Now, Park Shin-yang, it actually might be worth a discussion whether he is actually better than Lee Jong-suk or Yoo Yeon-suk. He's definitely more peculiar in his acting. This can be adequate for some roles, sageuk maybe, and partially for an oddball character like the "hero" of "Sign".

yeah, I mean Lee Jong-seok, Park Hae-jin, Im Shi-wan, Kang Haneul and Yoo Yeon-seok are CERTAINLY not pretty boys who "can't act".

I love Park Shin-yang, and I absolutely loved all his SBS dramas. Eg. Sign, War of Money, Lovers in Paris, Painter of the Wind. He is still the Ratings King in my opinion.

A hundred percent YEEEEES for Park Shin-yang!

Haha perhaps its the trend now - older guys with much younger gals.

Goo Soo with Jin Se Yeon
Lee Seo Jin with Uee
Park Shin Yang with Kang Sora

If the storyline is good it doesn't matter. SInce its an adaptation of a webtoon has anyone read it? I haven't. Is it good?

It's really impolite for those bad comments above.

I've known that the news of this drama was out last month and Park Shin Yang was the first actor that KBS choosed, not Kang Sora. So how could you said something likes "he should out of this drama", it sounds really bad. How do you feel when people say "Kang Sora shouldnt take this role..", does it hurt?

You said that he is not good at all. Is that you watch all dramas of him? If no, just shut your mouth off, because you judged that with the mind "he is old, not suitable with your idol"; or I can say "She is too young for this, pls out", hurt?

I dont want to say any bad words to Kang Sora, I havent watched any dramas of her, but I wont say she is bad.

Just feel bad for her when having these bad fans

....people have the right to state their honest opinion of the actors/this project based on the information they already have (past projects, past performances and their experienced of having watched them). And that goes for both positive and negative opinions.

None of the actors are going to bother themselves about some random fan comments on an international drama blog anyway, and if they're this easily hurt by negative opinions, maybe they should consider another line of work that doesn't involve being a public figure.

Kang Sora does have a strange taste in picking her dramas but one is for sure, her acting never fails. This girl is not about the rating nor the hottest co star but a lot more into the character & working with different writers, director, and cast.

no matter how messed up the stroyline, her acting shines through. She's versatile.

It's a fresh pairing if Park Shin Yang ended up taking the role. It's about time for him to flex his drama chops.

It's a sort of Misaeng-ish in a sense that it's a human drama but hey Kang Sora is a lawyer here! It's a YAY! to me.

Park Shin-yang had a lot of problems in the past due to the dispute he had with his agency. His punishment was was so ludicrous as to crown "best couple" in Painter in the Wind Moon Geun-Young and Moon Chae-Won because he was banned from all networks. After being consireded in ridiculous sounding projects in recent years, now he's unfit to play with a newbie (whom I like very much but she's inexperienced) such as Kang Sora? I get Gianna Jun, Choi Jin-Shil, Ko Hyun-Jung and Jeon Do-Yeon were Kang Sora's equals.
How sad is the fate of the once "pretty boys"... It should be a lesson for all the young actors.

I believe some don't want PSY because he's old. They want only a flower boy or a hot Oppa to be with KSR.
