Na PD returns with second season of New Journey to the West

Interesting. PD Na Young-seok (Youths Over Flowers, Three Meals a Day) said in a recent interview that his web variety series New Journey to the West was an experiment that he only considered a half-success. Perhaps it was just a lead-in to the announcement that the show would be returning for a second season; and again there’s talk of a possible television broadcast for it on tvN in Na PD’s usual Friday night hour (and a half).
The first season reunited ex-1 Night 2 Days members Kang Ho-dong, Lee Su-geun, Eun Ji-won, and Lee Seung-gi on a trip to China last summer. The travel variety program is the least like Na PD’s other tvN shows, because it’s sort of a hybrid of the classic 1 Night 2 Days games-for-food, mission-oriented style, but loose and edited around narratives like Youths or Grandpas.
This time Kang Ho-dong, Lee Su-geun, and Eun Ji-won are going on a trip without their maknae, because Seung-gi is in the army. SADFACE. Is there a face that’s sadder than sadface? ANGUISHFACE.
The boys and Na PD are leaving February 18 for an undisclosed location in China for another 5-day trip. I’m not sure that this is a show that needs a second season, because even the first one felt a little too familiar. But I did miss the 1N2D crew a lot, and it was fun to see them in a mini reunion. There’s even speculation about a possible mystery fourth member to take Seung-gi’s place, but I guess we’ll have to wait to find out if Na PD happened to kidnap a random celebrity on the way to the airport.
The new season of New Journey to the West is planning to air online on NaverCast, and there’s a chance it’ll follow Youths Over Flowers in Africa on Friday nights in April.
…Even though I don’t know what the point is, if Seung-gi’s not there.

I think it would be a flop w/o seunggi as this is a web series and i kinda sure only few of viewers gonna watch these three by them selves unless it for na pd sakes (he is a hallyu star himself as lee seunggi claimed) or for the series sakes.
He most likely bring a new guy or trolling us the whole series waiting for a guest but noone coming.

I think they can make this a success in ONE easy step: stop releasing it in these weird clip formats. It feels so disjointed otherwise, if they released like a 30/50/60 min episode, it'd be so much easier to watch

I wonder if it was planned before, since his enlistment was so sudden. Though I agree, without Seunggi I don't really see a point. They could add a new cast member, but unless it's MC Mong or Kim C I don't think they'd fit in as well. The long standing bromance between the guys was most of the selling point.

I think it'll do well, I hope it'll do well, those guys are hilarious and it's directed by evil genius Na Yeon Seol, and I need them to snatch Seung Gi from the army to one NJttW's trip 21 months later like they did to Kim Jong Min.
I'm sad Seung Gi won't be with them. Ofc I started watching 1N2D and got interested to those guys because of puppy Seung Gi, but I'm fond of them. I hope they bring Kim C with them, I also wish Mongie can comeback.
Seung Gi-yaaaaa, be healthy.

Not trying to be rude but honestly speaking, I'm not interested with this S2 idea. I watch the show mainly for Seunggi. I think almost everyone is like that. Like you said, there's no point if there's no Seunggi in it as he's the main stan attractor. Plus I actually don't really get nor like the NJttW concept. I like Over Flower series more so I hope Seunggi will do shows like Noonas Over Flower again when he's discharged from army.

Awesome, I'm so looking forward to this! I was just wondering the other day if they were going to make a second season. I wish Seungi was going to be a part of this show but I'm sure he'll be a part of a NA PD show when he's discharged. Some people may not care for certain members or that Seungi can't join the show but I'll definitely be watching. The members of the first season of 1N2D work so well together and with Na PD leading them I can't see myself not enjoying the show.

Aww, I loved the first season mainly because it felt like the old 1N2D. I wish they'd get MC Mong or Kim C in place if Seung-gi. That would be totally awesome!
I agree that its not really a show needing of a second season, but honestly, Meals doesn't either and neither does the Grandpa series. It gets repetitive after a while, but they're all fun and gives me a good laugh so why not? All variety shows are somewhat repetitive anyway.

*saddest sadface* I hope Na PD brings someone surprising. Even if Seunggi-ya is not joining S2, I'll be watching for the 1N2D boys. Is it too much if I'm hoping for MC Mong to join them? Helps to ease the pain, you know. Their maknae's in the army *cries*

Wow, totally got sucker punched- I forgot Puppy had already left us for a second T.T I hope they get a new cast member or spin the concept somehow, because if it's just like the last NJttW but without Seunggi, there's no way it'll work.

Ho Dong, Su Geun or Jiwon alone (or with others), are meh for me. But together, they are a gem and a hoot! There's something about how they bring out the best, the worst and the funniest in each other when they're together. I miss the original 1N2D cast.
I'd still watch the 2nd season for the group chemistry :)

Though I'm sad about Seun gi, I wish the others the very best of luck. I seriously miss the orig 1n2d cast and their presence in the ent biz in general. I seriously want them to shine again because they're such great personalities, both individually and together.
I know Kang Ho Dong seems to irk a lot of people, but I seriously adore the guy, shouty persona an all. Plus, nothing can beat their camaraderie; they're just all hella funny together. I just hope they lose the awkwardness and have a little more faith in their abilities to make people laugh.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for SeungGi? LOL
I actually have only ever liked him in 1N2D too (his drama + acting have all been blah for me except for K2H)
I do like the 4's camaraderie together because of their long time chemistry but I think the 3 of them will be just as fun as long as Na PD is with them. ^^ (he is their un-official member)
I REAAAAALLY am hoping they somehow bring MC Mong in. BC that would def bring back more memories and even crazier chemistry (esp between Ji Won x Mongie)

Not a fan of Lee Seung Gi either, so you're not alone XD
and he was the least funny on 1N2D and tried a bit too hard on New Journey to The West, so i won't miss him in the second season.
I loved the show so i'm happy that is coming back.

Which part of him being try hard in the show though he's being so natural himself in it. He's the least funny in 2d1n? heh excuse you he's the one that hard carried the show along with KHD and he's the most popular members in 2d1n though..if he's boring he won't be casted as mc for Strong Heart nor he will get a lot of variety shows offer from Na PD. It bcs he has fun personalities that people like him a lot. Btw you sounds like someone bitter of his presense being the main spotlight in every variety shows.

agree with u, even though im not a fan of seung gi.. but one thing is for sure. that guy is born to be a variety star.
I think when i look at the korean year end awards entertainment winner. seung gi is the 1st and the youngest hallyu MC to grab many awards and contend against hodong and yoo jae suk in daesang..give that a guy a credit. if he is boring??? why is it that he dominated many awards in entertainment field. I can sense a jealousy in here.

Me too,how fun would it be if MC Mong could join them.And this being a web series. But I don't think NA PD would risk his reputation to bring him on.Kim C or Jongmin would be great too.Those 6-7 members really built wonderful chemistry like high school kids during Season 1 of 1N2D.It has not be replicated with similar manner in the subsequent seasons. And no LSG is not sole deciding factor.
Sidenote, I was wondering if NA PD would get the boys to return in a colder season and yes He did.Hope they go to a rather cold part of China during those dates.And make them sleep on the streets.Haha.

Personally - I think all of these scandals keeping the guys off tv are ridiculous(divorce, gambling, tax evasion, draft dodging), yet drug and rape a female and you can star in tv drama after a year of reflecting and paying compensation. Wow.

Well of course i'm SUPER SAD that Seunggi won't be able to join them.. :(
But imagining those 3 idiots wander around in another country without clever SeungGi makes me giggle already..
I hope they'll pick up SeungGi the way they kidnapped JongMin when he finished his army..
Just don't forget your maknaee guys... And Na PD, i'll trust you to give us a glimpse of SeungGi cameo in NJTTW 2..!!!

No Lee Seung Gi this time. Only real 1N2D viewers will continue to watch this or rather real PD Na followers will. I like all the members like Sugeun and will watch regardless of LSG. That said I still hate the time format they tried for this show

Why without seunggi? Why AJH replaced him? Why not reguler 1n2d member like mc mong, kim c or kim jong min? Even uhm tae woong can fit them well. With AJH, i think it so many awkward moments. Anyway I miss seunggi
