SBS wins the battle for Jealousy Incarnate

Dude, the behind-the-scenes drama for this drama is hilariously entertaining. KBS and SBS have been fighting over the new romantic comedy Jealousy Incarnate for over a week now, with both stations announcing in turn that they had confirmed the drama and given it a timeslot on their schedules, which obviously couldn’t be true. The new series from the writer of Miss Korea and Pasta stars Gong Hyo-jin and Jo Jung-seok, and though the drama started out on KBS’s schedule initially, SBS got in the game when KBS delayed their timetable.

There’s a lot of speculation about SBS feeling the heat after losing out on money-maker Descended From the Sun, which likely fueled their desire to win this battle. Meanwhile, KBS’s side insists that Jealousy Incarnate was always theirs to begin with, and they’re confused as to how they lost a drama they had already contracted to air on their station.

And it turns out that Show might’ve been two-timing after all, because production company SM C&C stated that nothing was finalized, and negotiations continued with both networks until yesterday, when BOTH KBS and SBS announced they had secured the drama. Again. It turned into such a messy battle that the press had a field day, and it’s so funny that you should just read a few of the day’s headlines for yourselves:

The bickering between KBS and SBS for the drama is hilarious! Totally made my day!

I have high expectations of the actual kdrama but it would be awful if Jealousy incarnate would flop after all this real life drama over who airs it. Fingers crossed for the storyline ( although I would watch the leads even in a slow moving train reading magazines) ?

Lol this is hilarious. I hope for SBS's sake that this is gonna be a hit.. otherwise KBS would have the last laugh in this battle.

I was thinking they could do a drama on this topic... two companies which fight over a drama, all kind of shenanigans, one of them wins, the other sues them and, in the end, the drama they fought so bitterly over just flops!

Thinking the same! I mean, it is SM C&C produced, meaning they will try to snuck an idol or 2 in and ruin the drama in some way

neighbourhood lawyer is also s&m cc drama and not even one idol from sm in it. There ZEA member in that drama, i forgot his name and he is from star empire

Also considering it's produced by SM's subsidiary we should expect some SM idols thrown in there.

Thia drama about drama is hilarious. I can't imagine the meltdown if it flops to be honest, which is unlikely with so high profile main leads, but still.

LOL. The drama behind dramas is just astonishing, remember when Goodbye Mr. Black had a hard finding a broadcast home, but here they are fight over a drama. Good for SBS, though I was siding with KBS because in general I like their dramas more.

Lol, honestly, I kind of love this.

Simply because just a year ago this was happening.

I'm much happier seeing them fighting over dramas, than calling a lame little truce. I'm glad DoTS is revving their fighting spirit, lol.

That said, the whole situation does certainly seem a bit shady. I just hope the drama doesn't get affected and I still get this pairing on my screen. After all, I'm amped to see how their on-screen drama is going to rival all this off-screen drama.

The production company will probably get sued by KBS, doesn't matter how hilarious it all sound it was still unethical this all was.

and i hope the drama doesn't flop.

It's actually KBS just acting like a bitter ex-boyfriend - Jealousy asked for the August slot, KBS put Moonlight instead, KBS director who was supposed to direct quits KBS, Jealousy is in the air, it goes to SBS to negotiate, SBS says yes.
Jealousy made it already clear when the reports of Jealousy airing in Oct at KBS first came out, saying they've already talked to SBS for a summer slot. Then KBS gets pissed even though it's screwed over Jealousy production multiple times and now they're threatening to come back for the sake of the future, since they have the upper hands in drama production scheduling as a broadcast station.
There's really no two timing if Jealousy was only in talks with both stations and confirmed over paper with just SBS, which is what both KBS and Jealousy are claiming. KBS is just bitter that it can't have both Jealousy and Moonlight.

I agree with you. KBS2 has demonstrated creativity, variety and freedom with its drama pickups, though some garnered low ratings, but they actually have unique dramas, while SBS usually sticks to its typical format for romantic comedies, legal dramas and revenge dramas.

I have mixed emotions regarding SBS nabbing this from KBS2 because of the aforementioned reason and the fact that this is a 16-episode mini-series that would just probably be under the radar in the year-end drama awards because of Descendants of the Sun probably winning most, if not all, categories relating to mini-series. With SBS having fewer hits (and anticipated hits) so far, Jealousy Incarnate would at least get its deserved recognition.

In any case, I do hope that the leads confirm soon and that the production would not be compromised by the said issue.

I loved KoD up to the extension, so 16 out of the 18 episodes were amazing. KMM is incredible (as usual hehe), RJW is a feisty heroine and Siwon was just laugh out loud hilarious. To me it's a must watch for any kdrama fans, just to get an idea (in a satirical way) what's going on behind the scenes of drama making.

0

Required fields are marked *

This, exactly! The scarier thing was when I found out they really do sometimes tape the last episode on the morning it's going to air so some of the things I thought were exaggerations and satire _weren't._

0

Required fields are marked *

It's decent in the beginning, but somewhere around the halfway point it stops engaging with dramaland in a critical sense and starts mining some of its most inhumane practices for typical kdrama nonsense. Let me put it this way: the show begins by confronting the human cost of the live shoot system in the most extreme way possible, but later goes on to manipulate said human cost so KMM's character can unironically play the hero and the OTP can play footsie.

It's definitely the best drama behind the drama..
It has everything you want for romantic comedy and even more! The acting is no joke too, Kim Myung Min, Jung Ryeo Won and Siwon...

KBS usually produces better dramas than SBS. SBS is too "censor sensitive". Their productions are often pretty bland. That being said I do hope this isn't another opportunity for Jo Jung seok to do that inner monologue thing he does so well. Muttering, puttering and talking to himself like some old guy of his med wondering the neighborhood in his underware.

He pulled the same schtick in "Oh My Ghost" but it didn't ruin the drama. I think most people that watched that drama loved it, like I did. He's an excellent drama kisser though. I know he can do more than play the same guy over and over again because I've seen him in movies. He shouldn't let them type cast him for drama. It will get old.

It doesn't matter if SBS got it, it's close to impossible for any drama to reach close to 40% rating this year, so KBS still wins in the end.

Hahahaha I find it hilarious that some of these headlines come out MINUTES within each other but are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum XD Talk about drama behind the drama, eh? And just like previous comments have already mentioned, I truly hope that the negative press for Show won't hinder its success, and with powerhouse names like Jo Jung Seok and Gong Hyo Jin *fingers crossed*
And yea, being a drama produced by a SM subsidiary, I'm pretty sure that a couple of idol-actors/actresses will be thrown into the casting mix..... which is what's worrying me more about the drama than the negative press, because really: the last drama we saw that was heavy in idol-actor/actress casting that was also a drama produced by the SM subsidiary wasn't so hot in the ratings department =( Hopefully the star power of the main leads and the writing will help to mitigate that.... Again, fingers crossed

GMB lost its slot from SBS to MBC, but it's just slightly better in rating than CBA.
Mr.Back went from SBS to MBC, also flopped.

The only reason SBS wants Jealousy Incarnate because they don't want to again lose ratings+popularity from the drama they "dumped" this year, Signal and Descendants of The Sun. I'm sure SBS must be giving it all their might to get this drama since the stars are Gong Hyo Jin and Jo Jung Seok with the possibility being a hit. And maybe this drama would compete with KWB&Suzy and LJS&HHJ. So speaking of star power and appeal they won't lose to KBS or MBC.
