SBS’s Entertainer gets 2-episode extension

Hm, let’s see… we’ve got a show that’s been getting middling ratings and a mixed reception, and the drama that’s set to follow it lost its potential leading cast. Gee, I wonder why Entertainer is getting extended? SBS just confirmed that they will be extending the Wednesday-Thursday showbiz drama by 2 episodes, bringing the total count to 18. It also gives their next Wednesday-Thursday drama Wanted an extra week to secure a cast and start shooting before it has to be on the air. Yunno, minor stuff like that.

Entertainer is about a ragtag indie band trying to make it in the music business, and stars Ji Sung as a failed agent trying to get it right this time, Kang Min-hyuk as the young talent with a sketchy past, and Hyeri as the band’s noona/house-mom/manager. I actually find it to be a light, fun watch, but I do see why it never really took off (it’s getting single-digit ratings that range from 6.2% to 8.7%).

I enjoy it while it’s on, and then afterwards I’m always left feeling like the show only ever gives me surface-level angst and conflict. But while the plot is utterly predictable, I do care about Ji Sung’s character, and I love the way he brought the boys together and started to care about them despite himself. I’m still unsure how they’re going to sell a conventional romance in this show (I like the secondary pairings both ways — can’t they just do that?), but maybe with 2 additional episodes, they’ll make it happen?

Honestly, we all know that the extension is for Wanted’s sake, not Entertainer’s, so I’ll just be happy if they don’t drag the story down with a late bout of noble idiocy to bide time. I like to keep my expectations low; it’s how I stay so positive!

Entertainer will now run until June 16, to be followed by thriller Wanted.

Why can't SBS do short drama with 2-4 episode to fill the gap instead.

That was my wish too, but I guess SBS is cleverer.

I want Wanted to be good honestly. They should just air 4 episodes short drama to give more time to the team.

Even now, Wanted still searching for their casts. I hope they get it done this week.

The show has been decent enough, but not sure an extension is the best thing as we have already spent the past 4 eps starting, stopping, re-starting, stopping and re-starting the band.

That's what I'm thinking too, watching till ep 5 and the plot is just going circle. No any real big conflict and character development is limited so far.

Yeah honestly I am getting impatient and lowkey disappointed in the drama too. I feel like this is like Moorim HS ver. 2 with all the huge fuss and promotion before the drama and a quiet funeral after it.

I hope the next ep will be interesting and idk bring us some new interesting material instead of repeating and dragging the whole story

It's honestly just a bit better than My Lovely Girl, Ji Sung hard carries the show and the bromance and makeshift family kinda make up for the rest of the plot.
MLG suffered from boring plot, messy writing and almost non-existent chemistry from the leads, if Entertainer ends up like MLG I'll throw tables to SBS for wasting Ji Sung's talent.

I totally agree, I do like this drama and have been enjoying watching it for the past few weeks, I think SBS ahould had made a short drama to give time to Wanted to secure cast and start filming instead of extending by 2 episodes.

Maybe they will go for a noona puppy love romance. But I honestly I couldn't care less. For once, I am not interested in romance. Except for my soft spot for shows about music, the only thing I like is this family formed between the group members.

I think SBS should gets more 2 ep extension (make Entertainer long 20 ep) to Wanted have enough time to finish casting. They only have 1 actor right now.
That's nothing good to watch with me. Master: God of Noddles, Goodbye Mr.Black not logic and Entertainer so boring so I just watched half part of ep 1.
I need a drama with strong pilot in Wed-Thurs timeslot. Looking forward to see Wanted, W, Deal in this year.
And, please, don't make any drama about lawyer. It's boring with weak pilot.

I like Entertainer and it's been steadily rising in the ratings department, so this decision is not a complete brain freeze of SBS.
Just hope that the extension will be used for cute and happy band attics instead of rehashing old tropes of nobility or some other nonsense.

How are they going to extend this show? I predict:
Shin Suk-Ho will get a memory loss disease and not tell anyone. This will become evident when he goes back to KTop and thinks he's still the manager of Jackson--which he believes is not a K-Boy Band, but a duo composed of "She Was Pretty's" Hwang Jung-Eum and Choi Si-Won.
Ha-Neul will confess his love for his "sister," Geu-Rin. This, and the hidden feelings she has for him will freak her out so badly that she will manifest "noble idiot syndrome" and emigrate to Turkey, to learn how to brew coffee.
Yeo Min-Joo will quit the business and go back to her family and live as a pampered, rich, heiress.
A huge secret about Kayle will be revealed when it is made known that he never went to Julliard, but studied music in "Julie's yard," a friend of his who lives in New York.
Na Yeon-Soo will have a total break down when the mother of his son sues him for custody. Yeo Min-Joo uses her money to help him fight. But this uncovers the fact that Na Yeon-Soo and his little boy, are actually brothers, not father and son.
Lee Joon-Suk, KTop's evil owner is convicted of killing Ha-Neul's brother. But he escapes when the police van that is taking him to prison crashes into a phone booth where Kim Joo-Han is making a call to a film maker. Begging him to cast evil Lee Ji-Young in a three-quel movie of My Sassy Girl.
(What? You don't think so? I bet I've got at least 3 of them right!)

I love your great sense of humor!
You should consider to change your occupation to scripwriter for Gag shows. And I will watch the shows regularly. Haha.

" Lee Joon-Suk, KTop’s evil owner is convicted of killing Ha-Neul’s brother. But he escapes when the police van that is taking him to prison "

I CAN TOTALLY SEE THIS HAPPENING OMG or like.. the police van jumps to the water and leaving him free

Also YES THE JACKSON REFERENCE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

another thing i can see happening is someone getting into some sort of life-changing serious accident that doesn't allow them to continue living the way they are (and some major group and personal angst) but that's ok bc we are all family and we support each other (or maybe it turned out to be not that serious and everything is fine bc of some love miracles thing)

Wooow why are channels having this problem to find their leads lately?? Or has it always been like this but less public??? If they make someone sick, get struck by a truck of doom, go blind, etc. to extend the show, I'll flip a table... Even tho id wish they could take off and hit double digits, this is a good show and im caring so much for our little family, ill hate if they ruin that...
They should do some drama.special or something!

Honestly, I could care less whether they extend the show or not. It's not that I dislike the show, far from it, it's more that I am indifferent to it. Not really invested in the outcome and I watch it to pass the time... whatever they want to do with it I guess...

I love Ji Sung and Min Hyuk and other cast members regardless, but the show doesn't seem to have much going for it in terms of conflict or plot. Evil CEO vs. Underdog. Who Wins? The End.

Entertainer is a good show. Ji sung is acting out his character in excellent way and also the entire band and his friends are great ,the only glitch is hyeri acting as the female lead though shes cheerful and happy according her character, her acting is nothing great infact they could cast any actress in her place and ji sung would still have a great chemistry with her.No offense to how hyeri is as an actress but i think she has long way to go before she can act as good as ji sung and act more versatily .apart from that I think it's a fun show to watch.hopefully the last two episodes don't become filler episodes but I think that won't be the case because they are many things that need to be sought before it ending like how Jo Han neul's brother dies, jackon and ktop being thrashed and ultimately soughting out everyone's love life .

Aw I like this drama. Ji Sung's awesome. The band members becoming a cute lil family is sweet. No romance needed. But I'm not obsessed with this show like I am with some other shows.

I really like the show. I feel like yes, it's had a slow burn, but I think there's a lot of enjoyable character development going on. I love they're actually performing and I LOVE the band's single. I mean, I may break down and go find it on I-Tunes and I really hate buying from Apple so that's saying something.

Hm, 2 episode extension might be wonky but at least it's only 2 and not 4.

I'm really liking Entertainer. I'm glad it got an extension, even if it was only so Wanted can get their crap together. Seriously, what is up with it? Most likely not going to watch it now. Anyway, Entertainer better stay the way it is, or get better. I'd hate for it to start sucking after the past few episodes. It's gotten much better.

I don't mind the extension as long as it doesn't come up with something stupid for the plot or drag things out too much. I do like this series and the bond that's forming between the band members. Plus, Jisung is just awesome.

Do actors and shows plan for the possibility of extensions in their schedules? Like, is that part of the contract when they sign on--if the show receives an extension, they agree to continue?

Honestly, I wouldn't sign on to Wanted unless I was a debt-riddled, drug addict behind on child support payments. A last minute "thriller" where the lead is going to have to engage in all kind of crazy (read poorly planned and unsafe) stunts. They'd be better off just getting a "sponsor" for the time that the show is supposed to run.

It surprised me when I saw this bit in Knews and made me curious why. Now I get it. I want to be as generous as I can but this drama has quite a few moments of cringe. I never really thought Hye Ri is great actress or anything but R88 was great drama and her acting was not that important. In this, she is ah... She will need some experience for sure. She does not have range. She cries too much but with same emotion - someone died or my brother is not home or my boss fired me or dog is sick.... her crying and the emotions are same. If I did not have context and randomly saw her crying, I would think someone died.

And all the idols are...Idols.

Anyways, I needed to vent. It is a light watch though, if I do not nitpick. Still.. It is not a good ensemble of actors and overdramatic for the theme.

despite being SO excited for this drama, i actually gave up watching.

i think i just didn't like kang min-hyuk, and also the actor who plays the young dad (he's REALLY bad). there were just too many actors i didn't like, and the story failed to grip me from the first week. i don't even want to envision what an extension will do to the story...

Am i the only one that actually wants Geu Rin to end up Shuk Ho?I really don't get the whole old guy young girl conflict!I enjoy watching all kinds of couples in dramas,be it same age, older guy-younger girl, older girl-younger guy because guess what! That's how real life is!I remember someone wrote here that it is different with noona romances 'cause it's nice for a change that a woman has the power.I respect different opinions of cource and of course they make a valid point, but i just don't understand why love and relationships have to be about who has the upper hand!I may be a minority but i have no problem with a few shows portraying this sort of relationship! So, i am rooting for Shuk Ho-Geu Rin and they could make it even more awesome if they paired up Min Joo with Yen Soo (hello noona romance!).Let's all be on love's side people! It's not about age!
