Song Yoon-ah offered tvN bodyguard-romance drama K2

No confirmation has been made yet regarding Ji Chang-wook’s (Healer) potential casting in upcoming tvN production K2 (and I assure you I’m keeping an eager eye out for that update), but the show now also has an offer out to Song Yoon-ah (Assembly, Mama), and she is reportedly considering.

The drama description is still a bit vague; it’s a love story between a presidential candidate’s hidden daughter and a bodyguard who’s abandoned by his countrymen, with Ji Chang-wook considering the role of the bodyguard. Song Yoon-ah’s potential character will be the presidential candidate’s wife, who’s also the eldest daughter in a chaebol family. She has an approachable image that’s also graceful and elegant, and projects affection and integrity… but on the inside, she’s full of ambition and charisma.

Well, the casting call is pretty appropriate, since Song Yoon-ah has played all of those things at some point in her career, though perhaps not all at once in one character. Considering that the politician’s daughter is a hidden one (I take that to mean illegitimate), I’m thinking Song Yoon-ah won’t be her mother, though we’ll have to wait till more story details are released to get a handle on the plot.

K2 will be written by Jang Hyuk-rin of medical-romance thriller Yong-pal and directed by PD Kwak Jung-hwan of Chuno and Neighborhood Hero. It is currently in consideration for the Friday-Saturday timeslot on tvN to follow The Good Wife, which was until recently slated to go to the time-traveler-and-wife romance Tomorrow With You, which is hoping to score Lee Min-ki and Shin Mina to headline. If K2 wins out, it’ll premiere in September.

The first 7 episodes were fabulous. So it might actually turn out to be very good . *fingers crossed*

But weren't the first 7 episodes fantastic because they were plagiarized from a Japanese show or manga of some sort? I remember some sort of lawsuit/scandal breaking out. That's why all the interesting characters were so abruptly killed off or sent abroad, I thought. Or am I misremembering?

If I'm remembering correctly, then I'm secretly hoping nobody takes this on. It sounds like the latter half of yong-pal without the excellent premise and first half to hook me.

There were reports but no legal consequences. However, some people said that the drama went downhill because SBS put restriction on the writer after the ratings blew off. Mostly, to get more endorsements. My hope is that TvN gives him the liberties he should have as a writer.
The writer's first Drama, while far from perfect, was pretty decent.
Some thing you often see with popular dramas is them becoming 1 hou long CFs because the stations wanting the money. It is unfortunate because many good dramas became the same old because of that. Also "Yongpal"was supposed 16 episodes until SBS decided to make it 18 without consulting the writer. I think a lot went wrong behind the scences and I just hope it does not happen again this time around.

Interesting! Well TVN will give then more creative freedom so this is definitely the writer's chance to really prove himself. Korean public doesn't seem to care that YP was a hit.

As much as I want Ji Chang Wook back on my screen, I am not sure he would take this role. It is similar to his character in Healer. He is an actor. He is looking for something new and challenging each time. The only promising thing about it is that this was announced. I'm sure he was offered different dramas, so there was to be a reason this offer was promoted by the production team.

For a second there I thought she was offered the role of the love interest after reading the headline. I wonder if they have anyone in mind for the leading lady yet?

I pray for this show to be good if JCW accepts. Pleeeaseee.

@fab and pogo

Thanks, both of you! :)

@pogo, you didn't watch Healer? really? I am a cranky old thing who drinks a mugful of cynicism for breakfast and broils idols for dinner, and even I found it charming. Plus, Kim Mi-kyung.

I need Ji Chang wook on my screen now,I will practically watch him in just about anything

Waves to all of you ❤️

I thought the same thing! Was scared for a moment there ...

If I had to choose, I would pick Moon Chae Won. Except she's already done GMB, so I have very little expectations. I would also like Jin Se Yun (although her acting is sometimes stiff, she looked great with JCW in Five Fingers)...Hmm. Who else...

JSY is busy enough with 50 episodes sageuk this year, so we can exclude her name from the potention candidate. weee ~~

I think I've been spoiled by lots of pre-produced kdramas recently that the "airing in September" part when there's no cast yet is giving me stress.

"September? That's only 2-3 months from now!"

By Yongpal writer? I hope both of them decline. They are both too good actors to suffer from a lousy script.

I feel like there's been a lot of bodyguard roles lately. It's making crave one with a female in the role instead. *sighs* that's probably unlikely to ever happen though.

Please tell us soon who gonna be the female lead.. :)

And.. even Yong Pal was a mess, but this may have a chance to be success. I don't know if Yong Pal's high rating due to the actors, but I believe it so. Every actor need at least one drama which is a huge success, like DOTS regardless the script is great or just ordinary.JCW really needs it, it seems he is quite underrated in Korea even I can say he is much better than some overrated actors..I don't need Healer, JCW as Emperor in Empress Ki was more than enough to prove he is such a great actor.

Kwak Jung-hwan sure is coming back pretty quickly after Neighborhood Hero. The writer and potential cast are not promising imo, but KJH always keeps things interesting.

I cannot say anything about the writer, since I've never seen her dramas, but how can you say that JCW being casted as the male lead is not "promising" or interesting news? O.o

I wouldn't mind putting my fave come-up actress Kim So Eun in this.
If she has a cold, serious personality, and he kind of breaks her- that would be kind of nice because Kim So Eun impressed with that kind of detest towards her father in sageuk Scholar Who Walks at Night.
I hope we got a bit more information on what kind of personalities they're look at for the main leads. JCW is confirmed, but it would be nice to know if the daughter is supposed to be closed up and hate the fact she's hidden-- or maybe rebellious and fun (kind of like B1A4 Jin Young's character in She is Wow).

It is about what they're looking for.
