Bring It On, Ghost: Episode 12

This episode is everything I’ve been wanting for weeks, and more. Questions are answered, motives are unearthed, and a few new surprises arise to complicate events. Both Bong-pal and Hyun-ji will be forced out of their comfort zones once again, but with danger seemingly around every corner, I hope they can recover their amazing teamwork… and soon.

EPISODE 12 RECAP

Hyun-ji just barely manages to tell Bong-pal that she’s live before she starts to flicker and fade. Up in her room, Hye-sung attacks her comatose body with black mist until she flatlines, and Hyun-ji’s spirit disappears from Bong-pal’s arms. But just as Hye-sung smirks that he’s gotten rid of another threat, Hyun-ji’s doctors are able to revive her, and she opens her eyes.

Down in the parking lot, Bong-pal screams Hyun-ji’s name as tears streak his face. The world starts to spin around him, and he drops to the pavement, unconscious. Chun-sang and In-rang find him there and carry him into the hospital again.

Hyun-ji wakes to find a crowd of relieved faces around her — nurses, her doctor, and both of her parents. Her mother tells her that she’s been in a coma for five years, but she doesn’t remember anything about her accident. The doctor tells her parents that it’s normal to have some memory loss, and her memories will return eventually.

Hye-sung overhears Hyun-ji’s doctors talking about her miraculous recovery, and he lurks around her hospital room door. Inside, the entire family is crying — Hyun-ji’s parents for having have their daughter back, and Hyun-ji crying because they’re crying. Hye-sung watches them laughing and hugging, and smirks again.

Bong-pal’s collapse is chalked up to exhaustion — thank goodness, his head x-rays came out fine. Chun-sang mutters that Bong-pal’s had a hard time since Hyun-ji left, and In-rang innocently asks why. He finally figures out that Bong-pal is the guy Hyun-ji liked, and they guess that Bong-pal liked her back. Supportive bro-hug time.

Myung-chul tells his shaman friend that the monk he spoke to at the temple, told him that Bong-pal’s mother had planned another ritual before she died. They never got to perform it, and the monk doesn’t know where the ritual tool is located that they planned to use, and the chief monk at that time has now passed away.

It’s that ritual tool that Bong-pal’s father has been looking for all these years. Naturally, the demon is also looking for it, because whatever it is, it can end its existence. Myung-chul remembers a beaded bracelet breaking when Bong-pal was exorcised the first time, and quickly leaves.

Hye-sung goes back to his clinic and stares at Hyun-ji’s student ID, the one he stole when he tried to run her over. He wonders what to do with her now.

Myung-chul heads to Bong-pal’s place but finds it empty, and grows worried for him. He’s still resting at the hospital so Chun-sang answers his phone, and tells Myung-chul where they are. The monk rushes to see Bong-pal, and learns that it’s simple exhaustion.

Chun-sang and In-rang introduce themselves as Bong-pal’s college sunbaes and business partners, and Myung-chul grows upset at the idea that Bong-pal is actually in the ghost-hunting business. He recognizes the boys from when they ran into each other at the country inn, and blames them for getting Bong-pal into their moneymaking scheme.

Ouch, he nearly yanks Chun-sang’s ears off. He warns them never to rope Bong-pal into fighting ghosts again, then sets them to guard him while he talks to the doctor.

Hyun-ji is something of a hospital celebrity…. it’s not every day that someone wakes up after a five-year coma, and she seems to be recovering relatively well. She’s told to exercise her hands slowly and not to try to walk yet, but it looks like she’ll make a full comeback. The doctor and nurses all give her a little applause, but one man in the back seems unhappy.

In-rang goes on a snack run and sees the crowd gathered around Hyun-ji’s room, and hears everyone talking about the girl who woke up after a five-year coma. He cranes his neck to get a glimpse of the the girl — and immediately recognizes Hyun-ji. He runs back to Bong-pal’s room, where Bong-pal is waking from a nightmare of Hyun-ji’s last disappearance.

In-rang tells Bong-pal that Hyun-ji is here, and Bong-pal runs through the halls to find her. She’s alone when he locates her room, using her paper art to work on her hand strength, and Bong-pal is stunned for a moment to see that she’s alive.

He lets himself into the hospital room, but there’s no recognition in Hyun-ji’s eyes when she sees him. Bong-pal doesn’t notice and rushes in to hug her, but she shoves him away and asks warily who he is. Bong-pal looks stricken when he realizes that Hyun-ji doesn’t remember him, but her mother comes into the room so Bong-pal leaves, saying that he must have been mistaken.

He tells Chun-sang and In-rang that Hyun-ji doesn’t remember him, looking heartbroken and lost. The guys peek into the room and confirm that it is indeed their Hyun-ji, and when her mother wheels her out into the hallway, she doesn’t recognize them, either. Aww, In-rang’s little sadface.

They deduce that her spirit must have left her body for those five years she was in the coma, and only just now came back. Somehow she doesn’t remember anything that happened while she was in spirit form.

Bong-pal wanders out of the hospital, unable to forget the way Hyun-ji looked at him, like he was crazy or dangerous. Myung-chul finds him and fusses at him for hanging out with Chun-sang and In-rang, but he was obviously worried about him and offers to take him home. Bong-pal apologizes for yelling at Myung-chul, and the monk smiles that he’s all grown up.

The boys show up at Bong-pal’s place with his stuff, to tell him that Hyun-ji didn’t just forget him, but she forgot everything. They’d charmed a nurse into telling them that Hyun-ji can’t remember her accident either, but that the memory loss is only temporary. In-rang even says that he thinks Bong-pal should try to be there for her, though it looks like that was hard for him to say. Sweet boy.

Myung-chul overhears, and gapes at the news that Hyun-ji is alive. But he’s puzzled as to why Bong-pal is so upset, when it seems he should be celebrating.

Bong-pal goes to his room and stares at Hyun-ji’s toothbrush and books, which he didn’t throw away after all. He tosses all of her things into a bag, looking determined.

Ever the loyal friend, Chun-sang checks in with In-rang to make sure he was okay with telling Bong-pal to stay by Hyun-ji’s side. He had to know it would make them grow closer, so does this mean he’s giving up on her?

In-rang says that he’s just happy to see Hyun-ji happy, and that he’s got something more important to do… get revenge on the guy who did that to her. He asks if Bong-pal still has the card from the detective they met when their internet stalker died.

Detective Yang looks into the death of Hye-sung’s father, which was ruled a simple accident. He’d fallen from their fifteenth floor apartment balcony and died instantly from head trauma. Yang and his detective friend visit the apartment’s current occupant, and go straight to the balcony.

His friend says that it could only have been an accident, since there were no defensive wounds on the deceased, and his wife’s testimony ruled out suicide. He had been drinking a lot, so they assumed he was smoking outside and lost his balance. When the police had arrived to check out a passerby’s reports of a dead body, the man’s wife hadn’t even known he’d fallen.

The couple’s son, Hye-sung, had been thirteen years old then, and the detective had only briefly glimpsed the boy in his room. Hye-sung had slammed his bedroom door shut, and the detective never gave him another thought.

Detective Kim calls Detective Yang to warn him that the chief is looking for him, and to come back right away. Yang tells him that he doesn’t think Hye-sung’s father’s death was an accident, because the balcony railing is tall enough that it would be nearly impossible to lose his balance and fall — unless someone pushed him.

Hyun-ji goes through extensive physical therapy to gain her muscle strength back, and soon she’s walking slowly. She gets the green light to begin using crutches to walk. On her way back to the room she greets the doctor she saw in her room, but he seems surprised that she spoke to him. Is he a ghost? Can Hyun-ji see ghosts now?

She struggles to push her chair up a ramp alone, and loses her grip and starts to roll backwards. A hand catches her… it’s Hye-sung, nooo! He offers to take her back to her room, and makes pleasant small talk on the way. He asks about her accident, and confirms that she doesn’t remember anything about it, though she mentions that she’ll probably remember eventually.

Hyun-ji is back in her room when Bong-pal visits again, with the bag of her things from his place. He apologizes and explains that he didn’t realize she’d lost her memory, and even shows her his student ID to prove that he’s not some random weirdo. She asks who he is, and he introduces himself: “Park Bong-pal. Your boyfriend.”

That gets Hyun-ji’s attention, and she gapes when he calmly says that they’ve been living together. She reacts with maidenly horror, and he explains that it was when she was a ghost, while she was in the coma. He tells her that she followed him around relentlessly, and just smiles when she says indignantly that he’s not even her type.

He says it’s okay if she doesn’t remember everything yet, and that he’s just happy she’s alive. Then he snatches her new cell phone and gives her his number, hee. He says he came here today to give her stuff back, and when she realizes he means to keep coming every day, she warns him not to dare. Bong-pal just promises that he won’t stop until she recovers her memories. PFFT, he put himself in her phone as “ My Love Bong-Bong.”

Hyun-ji’s mother comments that the toothbrush and cup look exactly like the ones she used to have, which makes Hyun-ji pause. She opens one of the schoolbooks and finds the pictures from the Soondae Soup trip, and recognizes her handwriting on the one she drew herself into. That sparks a small memory, of Bong-pal apologizing to her on the dock that day.

Bong-pal proceeds to hang out at the hospital, opening doors and lurking to smile adorably at Hyun-ji whenever he sees her. Knowing how much she likes to eat, he makes her mountains of food, and soon Hyun-ji gets the news that she can go home in a few days. Awww, she actually pouts a little when he’s not in her room after her physical therapy like usual.

Hyun-ji spots Hye-sung introducing a fluffy little dog to some children, and they nod to each other. Afterward he explains to Hyun-ji that he’s volunteering, doing some animal-assisted therapy with the kids. He lets her hold the dog, but his face goes scarily slack when she’s not looking at him.

Myung-chul decides to visit Hyun-ji now that she’s recovering, but instead he meets her mother in her hospital room. He leaves a message for Hyun-ji that the mean monk who spoke to her harshly came by, and that he’s sorry.

Hyun-ji learns more about Hye-sung, and she tells him that she was planning to apply to the university where he teaches before she had her accident. He invites her to come sit in on one of his classes, which excites her, since she pretty much slept through her college years.

Myung-chul sees them talking on the picnic bench and wonders what Hye-sung is doing here. Bong-pal shows up and sees them too, and wonders out loud why Hyun-ji is with his professor. Myung-chul realizes that that’s Bong-pal’s Hyun-ji, and grows very distracted.

Bong-pal waits inside for Hyun-ji, and he ignores her prickly response to ask if she’s regained any memories yet. He wilts just a bit when she tells him to see a psychiatrist, but he perks back up and mentions that he brought lunch.

Hyun-ji turns it down flat — until he casually mentions that it’s meat, hee. This boy knows the way to his girl’s heart, alright. She accepts the food, though she warns him not to think she likes him now or anything. Okay, sweetie, we believe you.

Hyun-ji scarfs down the food, admitting that Bong-pal is a great cook, though she thinks it’s a little strange that he knows all of her favorites (Hyun-ji: “Are you my stalker??” Bong-pal: “You stalked me…”) Bong-pal just watches her eat, his feelings all right there in his eyes.

Knowing that something is up with Hye-sung, Myung-chul goes to the veterinary clinic and asks the nurse if he can use the restroom. He sneaks into Hye-sung’s office to look around, and finds Hyun-ji’s student ID in his desk. Hye-sung arrives back and hears that the monk is still here, and corners him in his office. Myung-chul just gives him a huge happy grin, totally onto him now.

After eating everything, Hyun-ji has to go meet with her doctor, and she turns down Bong-pal’s offer to walk her to her room. He touches her arm and she swings hard to push him away, but she ends up throwing her crutch and falling to the ground. Bong-pal reacts fast and throws his arm around her waist and himself under her, cushioning her fall.

Their lips nearly touch, just like the first time they fought and accidentally kissed. Hyun-ji jumps up and yells at him that she’s never kissed anyone before, but Bong-pal mutters that she’s already had her first kiss, pointing at his own puckered-up lips. Cute. Then Hyun-ji beats the crap out of him. Double cute.

Hyun-ji meets with a different doctor today, who tells her that her regular doctor is out. She notes that doctor Kim Jung-woo seems to be out lately too, the one who she saw standing over her the day she had her accident, and who was there when she woke. The nurse says they don’t have any doctors by the name of Kim Jung-woo. Strange.

Hyun-ji realizes that she’s missing her phone and goes back to the roof to find it. Bong-pal has it, and he checks to see that she’s changed his name in her contacts to “Crazy Stalker.”

Hyun-ji makes her way slowly through the dark hospital halls, unaware that someone is following her. She senses something and turns around, but the hall is empty. She turns back forward and there’s her follower, his face in shadow, and positively oozing black mist.

At the nurses’ station the doctors discuss Hyun-ji’s strange mention of a Dr. Kim Jung-woo, and one of them recognizes the name. He was a doctor at this hospital who died ten years ago, right here on hospital grounds. He murdered a patient on purpose during a surgery, then went to the commissary and ate a meal with blood all over him like it was normal. The police had been called, but he’d slit his own throat before he could be caught.

We see the face of the spirit following Hyun-ji, and it’s the same man she’s been seeing all over the hospital, the same man we just saw kill himself. He’s soaked in blood from a gash in his throat, and his name tag says “Kim Jung-woo.” ~shudder~

He hisses black mist at Hyun-ji, and she screams. Bong-pal hears her and comes running, just as the ghost looms over Hyun-ji and she shrieks his name: “BONG-PAL!!

COMMENTS

Great cliffhanger! Though I’m worried about Bong-pal’s ability to see ghosts — I’m concerned that his bonk on the head may have affected his abilities, and we haven’t seen him encounter a ghost since then. What’s Hyun-ji going to do if he can’t see and fight off her attacker? She’s obviously not lost her spunk, but she’s too weak to fight ghosts on her own at the moment after five years stuck in a bed. How am I going to wait a week to find out if Bong-pal still has his ghost-fighting strengths?

On the other hand, I’m not at all surprised that Hyun-ji can now see ghosts — it’s another “twist” that many of you saw coming, and it makes narrative sense that being a ghost for five years would give her a unique ability that carries over after she revives. But somehow, in this case as well as the other not-so-shocking twists, I don’t even mind that it wasn’t much of a surprise because it makes sense within the story, and the universal rules the show has set up for itself. It’s all in the delivery, and Bring It On, Ghost has a way of giving us exactly what we expect in a way that seems fresh and sweet, so that we don’t even mind that we totally saw it coming because it’s exactly what we wanted.

Not that I ever stopped, but I adore Chun-sang and In-rang so very much right now. Chun-sang is just the best, most loyal friend a person could have… he’s always there to take care of In-rang or Bong-pal when they need it, and he’s surprisingly intuitive about what they’re feeling at any given time. He’s definitely he emotional center of the Soondae Soup club. In-rang is more of a go-getter, he’s the one who always gets things done and really, despite Chun-sang claiming to be the boss, In-rang makes all the decisions. In-rang is the muscle of the group, and I love that these two actually have the opposite roles of what we expected.

But when In-rang graciously pushed Bong-pal towards Hyun-ji and turned his attentions to getting the bastard who hurt her, I just melted into a puddle of goo. That’s real love right there, both for Hyun-ji and for Bong-pal, to put their happiness first and be willing to help from the shadows. I’m thrilled that the boys are getting involved in the hunt to stop Hye-sung, though I’m worried for their safety. But mostly I just love them, despite their quirks and craziness. Where can I get a couple of best friends like these two?

Speaking of love, I was so proud of Bong-pal for bucking up and choosing to get honest with Hyun-ji right away. Dramas have trained me to expect a period of angsty separation and secret-keeping, so I nearly cheered when he just flat-out told her that they were living together while she was a ghost. I knew Bong-pal would man up and be the pursuer now that the tables have turned, but with his past of being laughed at for talking about ghosts, I didn’t expect him to be so brave and confident about it. He took a big risk that Hyun-ji would think he was psycho and kick him out, and I just want to hug him for getting past all his social anxiety and deciding to get his girl no matter what. I feel like a proud mama right now.

It’s not often that we get to revisit the fun bickering and snarking of the first part of a drama, when the leads find each other annoying at best, and which was a particularly delightful phase of this show. I keep grinning like an idiot (really, like Bong-pal) every time Hyun-ji snipes at Bong-pal and he just smiles happily at her, because it’s such a reversal of their earlier relationship, when he was the grump and she was the relentlessly cheerful annoyance. I love the switch-up, and it’s just as adorable as I’d hoped. This is one thing I hope the show doesn’t move through too fast, because seeing these two snap at each other is honestly one of the highlights of my summer. Stay strong, Hyun-ji, don’t give him any slack quite yet!

Haha, Yoyo got it bad for Taecyeon.. don't we all?

Hyun Ji, you funny girl, I don't understand your attraction to the professor, maybe he is cute to look at but there's Park Bong Pal, 2Pm's alpha male beast who introduced himself as your boyfriend, from a prestigious university majoring in Economics, and he is an A-student,too. And he is not your type? o,yeah, sure, we are all here if you don't want him. Then he cooks all of your favorite dishes, dang, you are one lucky, lucky girl. Make him suffer a little bit more, heehee.

No one can beat the dynamic duo, Chun sang is definitely in his element here and In Rang is just so sweet and sensible at the same time, it hurts and if Hyun Ji's got some twin sister hiding somewhere, I'd hope for her and In Rang.

I miss the pretty pink dress.
Why do I get a bit teary eyed watching the OST #5 mv, Dream by Kim So Hyun? It's not even a sad song, maybe coz it's sweet memories of Bong Pal and Hyun Ji as a ghost still, or a wandering spirit coz she ain't dead.
What else can't you do, girl? you are some sort of amazing.
How to be you?
Still waiting for OST #6, they're taking their sweet time releasing that song, huh? that beautiful haunting song when Hyun Ji drowned in the river.
oh, wait, was reading comments and there it is!
Yoyo, you're daebak!
Comfort by Rocoberry. nananah,..nah, nah,nah,nah,nah..

Let's stop with the age gap thing. It doesn't matter and will not matter only in this case, coz it's the ultimate Oppa Ok Taecyeon. Ok, so maybe I'm wishing KSH is like 23 to 26 years old already so we can get some legit kissing and not be relegated to clever camera angles and wild imaginings, but we'll take it.

That paper craft thing that Hyun Ji's doing is pretty cool, I think I like that better than the adult coloring book, that wasn't fun for me, I gave up after a few strokes. yea, short attention span. Oh, where are you Monday?

i don't see any age gap in this OTP. Taecyeon can definitely sell being a 22 year old second year university student, he looks so cool & dorky & sexy... and i agree with you that only if KSH is a tad older then the kissings will be more steamy... yum yum... hee hee... monday seems so far away... but don't worry, W is here again... lol...

So the theory of her not actually being dead was true! I forgot who brought it up though, it was a few weeks ago. But hey - that means we can get the romance we want in the end~

Hopefully for the next few episodes they can stay as the ghostbuster couple, but then again that could take some time since Hyun Ji can't fight outside of her ghost...

Don't forget Hyun Ji now has parents, I don't think it will be an easy road for them!

With my fingers and toes crossed I just hope the writer does not introduce the meddling mother plot ....

i highly doubt the meddling mother plot could be applied in this case.

i mean, Bong Pal is quite the smart kid in school right? Plus he is probably richer than your average college kid with all the exorcism he had done previously. And also to date your professor would be really weird right? Isn't that frowned upon in Korea?

Well, of course, unless you mean meddling mum as in the mum being the third party to the triangle. HAHA! ;)

The preview worries me a little bit, her mother was told by her that she didn't know Bong Pal at all, so I think that she may take the protective mother route... ('You don't even know the guy!' Kinda thing) if you know what I mean >.<

1. So SHE can see ghosts! Has she always had this ability? It would make sense since evil vet tracked her down, ran her over and semi-killed her just to look for that thing.

2. I don't think Bong Pal will immediately lose his ghost seeing abilities, maybe it'll act up like something intermittent, so it comes and goes. Then I'm assuming that's the choice he'll have to make in the end.

3. Bong Pal's mom had another exorcism tool made, so can we all agree that this is the "thing"?

4. Props to Bong Pal's efforts. Chivalry hasn't died in kdramaland.

5. I fear for the monks life. This person should know better than to creep inside an evil persons office and snoop around.

6. Hyun-Ji's affection for food is commendable.

7. How cute were HJ and BP with their mini scuffle? this brought me back to ep 1 and how thuggish HJ was. I'm glad the writers circled back to that.

8. Damn creepy ghost doctor.

I think since she can see ghost it could have been that mist effect, if you remember that episode that bong pal can see ghost since that evil spirit could be the effect of that dark energy

The similarities of this show with Oh My Ghostess are really coming to light..

- In OMG, evil cop marries the girl he ran over. Now in this show, evil vet is showing interest in HJ (which he ran her over with a car too) this for all his evil purposes of course! Are we looking into a possible love triangle between BP, HJ and evil vet?

Also a ton of similarities to Master's Sun.

Female lead was in a coma, coma-walking in spirit like a ghost, woke up able to see ghosts, but couldn't remember anything from her time as a coma-walker.

Ghost-of-the-Week format.

Two (that I have spotted) appearances in this show by actors who were also in Master's Sun.

I do not feel any sort of romantic attraction from evil vet for HJ. Not sure where you're coming from. His interest in her is for the 'thing' which he was asking her while she was dying on the street and now to keep her mouth shut in case she remembers.

I am thinking that the Veterinarian of Evil actually woke her up to find out where she put the horcrux, er, gizmo. He choked everyone else, this is the only time we saw him use his evil aura directly. So I am wondering if he wasn't trying to shock her spirit back into her body where she'd be in some ways, more vulnerable to him?

In-rang's actor is really impressing me. He's grabbed the scene stealer flag in a way I've only seen Kim Seul-Gi do in the past and JUST RAN WITH IT. And now that I've said that I need him in something with KSG pronto.

I'm presuming he did it because it would be a lot easier for him to get caught if he killed her by his bare hands and using his inner evil thing to kill her would make it so that they can cross it off as another shock that finally took her remaining life >.<
And yesssss In Rang stole my heart every time he appears on screen, we may have to fight over him =.= ...

I'm 99% sure BP can still see ghosts and his head-bonks were just head-fakes by the writer. And if he can't see ghosts, the series comes to an abrupt and sad end when evil random doctor-ghost kills Hyun-ji. Then the writer has to go into hiding.

I call the doctor-ghost random because he's just a plot contrivance to bring HJ & BP back together and end the amnesia bit. If it weren't for the amnesia, he would never have existed.

And I still think amnesia is an over-used crutch. But no harm, I'll just forget that part of this episode :)

In general, I agree with you about amnesia...but from what I understand. memory loss after a long-term coma is fairly common. Much more common than, say, hitting your head and getting amnesia, haha. So I felt it was actually MORE logical for her to have amnesia than not, in this case.

Also, similar to how 49 days worked, I feel like it would've been weird if a spirit/soul were able to remember everything they did as a spirit/soul immediately since it doesn't make sense in reality. At least in this episode, there are different things triggering her memories as a spirit which I assume as we get near the end of the drama, memories of who was the perpetrator of the hit-and-run.

0

Required fields are marked *

I second that. And it would be weird for her to remember that she was a ghost for 5 years. If this happened to me I would question my sanity and decide to believe that those 5 years were actually a loooong dream

Lollypip, I was also wondering if Bong-pal lost his ghost seeing skills. But I think he still has it cause he hurt his head before he saw Hyun-ji's ghost (soul?) disappear so I feel we are safe for now. It would be fun if the ghost fighting team stays intact with Hyun-ji a real live visible member!
As usual the dumb and dumber duo (said with all the love I can muster for Chun-sang and Il-rang) make me smile. I love them. They have also proven to be so loyal and caring as friends to Bong-pal (and Hyun-ji)

I was kind of dreading the post coma amnesia. I really didn't want the show to go down the long, torturous angsty road. Fortunately, the show held true to form! Even if Hyun Ji doesn't totally remember Bong Pal yet, she seems to sense that they have a connection. Like lollypip said, I'm glad Bong Pal told Hyun Ji everything straight up.

I'm loving this show!

This was probably one of the best episodes and that's saying a lot because this show is pretty awesome!

Bong Pal pursuing Hyun-ji is the cutest thing ever and I am glad he didn't wallow in the fact that she doesn't remember him too long.

Hmmm

I'm very concerned. Or as concerned as it is healthy to be over the fate of fictional characters.

I don't think Hye-Sung ever meant to kill Hyun-Ji.

I think he meant to booby-trap her by possessing her with a piece of a his demon-ness/ghostness so that he can set a trap/catch Bong Pal.

When Myung-Chul exorcise the spirit from child Bong Pal he caused it to break in peices and a peice left and infected Hye-Sung and a piece remained in Bong Pal. The demon in Hye-Sung has been looking for the other piece of himself since then.

Hyun-Ji now has a piece of that same demon. Hye-Sung will have to kill both Bong-Pal and Hyun-Ji to gather all his demon peices together.

i wouldn't be surprised if you check the date of Hye-Sung becoming strange and Bong Pal's exorcism they would be around the same time.

It is also interesting that the demon took one each of both their parents in childhood.

That's just what I think.

I am always wrong.

It seems to me that Hye Sung had an abusing father, since when the flashback of that detective came, it showed his mother with a black eye, so maybe the demon in hye sung only made his "dark side" stronger. He may have wanted his father dead even before being possessed, maybe that desire MADE HIM being possessed in first place, or at least made it easier for the demon to stay with him

But if so, why was it originally attracted to BongPal?

I have no idea, Little Bong Pal seemed to have very little in common with Little Hye Sung, but god knows. Maybe the demon just saw a better possibility when he found Hye Sung, since it appears to have grown up with him/in him.

If TV has taught us anything about supernatural possession it is that the innocent or the willing are the most desirable vessels.

0

@ Jenny , you read my mind..I also thought that was the reason for possession... if so HS's mom has many answers...

0

If one decides to ram someone over with a car, that's good enough proof that the intention to kill is there. Not to mention he revved the engine up before slamming the car on poor hyun-Ji.

Bong Pal might not have always been the traumatized kid we've seen on several flashbacks. I think the commonality with him and hye sung is that both of them were sickly kids prior to the possession.

On the other hand, he must be an expert at hit and runs, since he knew he'd still have a chance to ask her some questions. LOL, that has to be the worst interrogation technique ever, supposeing you actually care to get some answers.

0

Required fields are marked *

I also don't think he really meant to kill Hyun Ji, to me he only wanted to know where the "thing" is, it's just that his interrogation techniques are a bit... well dangerous and weird (who hits and THEN asks questions?!). But after Hyun Ji was hit she couldn't answer his question (which is logical) and was brought to the hospital. He thought she died but ended up discovering that she was in a coma. Because Hyun Ji saw him during the accident, he decided to kill her at the hospital fearing she would wake up from the coma and point finger at him (though ironically it ended up in Hyun Ji waking up, being more alive than ever). But I don't think he wanted to possess her. To me he just wanted to retrieve the "thing"

This PD doesn't only love food but also a lot of cameos in all his shows, doesn't he? Hehe. I'm not complaining, it's fun to spot all the actors who's worked with him in the past.

Btw anyone else wondering about Seo-yeon's purpose in this show? Given her amount of screen time in the first half I thought there's more to her than just being BP's crush and HJ's reason of jealousy but after BP's realization of his feelings for HJ she's pretty much became a disposable character.
Maybe the PD and writer saw people (incl.me) didn't really care about her from the beginning therefore reduced her screentime more and more? ?

I'm not overwhelmed by her acting. Maybe mediocrity has something to do with reduced screen time.

For a while I was guessing she might end up with one Chun-sang or In-rang, but now I guess not.

So her main purpose so far has been to give Hyun-ji someone to be jealous of and give HJ and chance to do some cute photo-defacing. Veering off into the wrong drama now, but such a character might want to have words with the writer/creator.

That's part of the laws of kdramaland...

Chapter 27: parents of the hero/heroine can either be: ignorant or without common sense, poor or dead, poor and convicted, mentally or physically challenged, developed bad drinking habits, a bad gambling habit, may or may not be the hero/heroines real parent/s, drowning in debt, arrogant and selfish. Usually you'd get a mix of these...

Why??? he aint handsome. He looks like Mr Burns to me.

Required fields are marked *

Yup - one thing that annoys me about far too many k-dramas is how superficially they treat good looks (at least for men) as being the one an only defining characteristic for swooning and pursuing. Sometimes it just gets totally ridiculous - like those scenes where hundreds of high school girls are going into spasms of ecstasy when the lead walks into the front door.

It is like the writers assume that no female (except maybe the lead heroine) is nothing but an airhead and their only interest in life is stalking handsome guys.

The charm of this show is not only the main romance (which is totally adorable) it's also a well written supporting characters.. it's ironic how the main characters are kept away from all the murders when they are so close to the victims or victim themselves...... yet one of supporting character is investigating the cases that relates them without neglecting it.. still BP and HJ hold the main key that unlocks all the mystery..which i'm looking forward to in final showdown...

One of my main curiosity is why BP avoids his father so much that he doesn't even care that he disappeared for five years..and BP's dad' relation with HJ.. or he just accidentally put "that thing"(probably another bead bracelet) in her bag randomly...So many questions that's why this show ends up in a well written category
where evil is not so dumb or the smartest ass in the town..
Leads have a properly progressed relationship...& a kickass teamwork..
Awesome supporting charecters who make sense why they are there..
A mystery worth solving and not so annoying week to week cases ...
Doctors and detectives do their work properly and even Teacyon is in his best acting shoe.. I can't ask for anything else..* bowing to writers and drama god*

I mean Bong Pal got his abilities after being taken over by that mist... Hyun Ji doesnt know she could fight ghosts so she thinks she is helpless, but what if she now has a power that activates on its own

Thanks @LollyPip!

What struck me was how the roles of our fun the side characters, Chun-sang and In-rang have been reversed.

Chun-sang was the useless, immature one, rife with bad decisions, and it was In-rang who took care of him; but one sudden ability to see Hyun Ji's spirit (still unexplained, by the way, ... oh wait, was it because he hit his head?) makes In-rang the totally childish partner. It's nice, though to see that Chun-sang can step up past his own selfish concerns to take care of others.

So now we are left wondering if banging one's head makes ghost seeing abilities come and go. The funny thing was that In-rang could only see Hyun Ji sometimes. There did not seem to be any rules about when she could be visible to him and when she couldn't.

What I was hoping for is coming to pass. Maybe with Myung Chul and the guys now all knowing each other, and better yet, with Hyun Ji able to see ghosts, we'll have an even stronger team to kick some black, smoky spirit butt!

Am I the only one who's worried about the monk more than HJ? He's such a father to BP that I worry something bad happening to the monk will be devastating to BP. And don't forget BP has not learned yet his real father is dead. Bad times coming!

This episode is too funny. In the beginning it was always Hyun Ji bothering and doing crazy things to Bong Pal but now the tables have turned.

Good lord all that food. If there's one reason why I shouldn't watch this near midnight, it's the fact that I get super hungry when the Bong Pal cooking show chimes in.

That ghost doctor was creepy. Kills a patient and eats with blood in his clothes like it was nothing. I remember seeing him as one of the doctors that rushed Hyun Ji to the hospital when she first got into the accident but I wonder why he was hanging around her.

That ending tho. Shouting Bong Pal's name.

Thanks for the recap, LP!

Really enjoyed this ep! So glad HJ is alive and awake. Love the spats between her and BP. And how awesome is he to just be miserable for a little while and then man up to stay by her side. Food is too hard to resist for HJ, especially meat. LOL

CS-IR are such amazing friends. Love what you said about the roles of these two. The loyalty is endearing and sadly, not something you can always count on these days. So proud of IR to put his own heartache aside and join the hunt for HS!! I hope these boys will stay safe.

Monk's safety is always something I fear for. Now that he's onto HS and the connection with HJ, I hope he can dig up more clues and find that additional weapon to kill off the evil spirit, sooner than later.

It's been a surprisingly enjoyable watch so far and I'm looking forward to how everything will be resolved. HJ, remember BP soon! ;)

A reset? Her forgetting everything about Bong Pal, well, a kiss would definitely bring back the memories like for sure. So, let's have that kiss!
'Did try to read the webtoon but it was different.. This is so much better so when I finally got to that part of Bong Pal's connection to the death of Hyun Ji, oh meh, nah, I didn't like it so I stopped there. They just took the premise of that and made it into something better, brighter story with a pretty spunky ghost and an awesome, hunky Bong Pal. #madlovefortaecyeon
Yup, that's the official hashtag.
You like that, Yoyo?

"How am I going to wait a week to find out if Bong-pal still has his ghost-fighting strengths?"
Now I'm glad I postponed watching this episode till now. Only a day to wait for the next episode, that I can do!
But, it never occurred to me that Bong Pal might lose his ability to see ghost due to the "bonk on his head". I mean, those abilities are remanent energy after that dark thing left his body so I don't think he'll lose them just for getting hit on the head. *crossing fingers hoping it's true*
Question: Now that Hyun ji is alive and can see ghosts, is she gonna re-join the club? and more importantly, is she gonna have back her badass ghost fighting black costume?
