Shin joins the con artists in Legend of the Blue Sea

Another addition has been announced for fantasy-romance Legend of the Blue Sea, one of the big buzz projects of the fall season, which stars Jeon Ji-hyun (You From Another Star) and Lee Min-ho (Heirs). It’s been a couple years since I’ve seen Cross Gene idol-actor Shin (Shin Won-ho) onscreen (in 2012’s Big), and now he’s coming back to dramaland to play a genius hacker (is there any other kind? Though now that I think of it, I’d like to see a drama employ a bumbling hacker at least once).
He’ll join Lee Min-ho and Lee Hee-joon (Yoo-na’s Street) on their con artist team; it’s the role that was auditioning rookie actors recently, and I suppose Shin still qualifies as one even though he debuted five years ago. I still remember him as Little Gong Yoo in Big, even if he spent most of that drama unconscious; I recall liking him in that role, so I’ll look forward to the con artist lineup.
Legend of the Blue Sea is a fantasy romance based on an old folktale of a fisherman who caught a mermaid, and the governor who returned her to the sea. Lee Min-ho actually will be playing two separate characters in the drama; one is a Joseon-era nobleman’s son, while the other is a master con artist in Seoul. Hm, that’s interesting — I’d thought Legend of the Blue Sea would be a modern-day drama, but now I’m picturing the inclusion of sageuk elements into the main storyline, a la You From Another Star and its Joseon-era segments.
Jeon Ji-hyun plays a mermaid who comes to Seoul, and she’s named Shim Chung — that has to be a nod to the famous folktale character, often upheld as the pinnacle of filial piety for her self-sacrificing spirit. (I’d love it if that naming were ironic, since Jeon’s brand of sass and comic hauteur are the total opposite of Shim Chung’s sweet, righteous image. Or maybe it’s a nod to the way Shim Chung threw herself into the sea to save her father?)
The two leads reportedly left for foreign location shoots last week; they’ll film in Palau first, followed by Spain shoots in September. The drama, which is written by You From Another Star’s Park Ji-eun and directed by Master’s Sun’s and City Hunter’s PD Jin Hyuk, will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama following Incarnation of Jealousy. It airs on SBS in November.

He was cute in Bachelor's Vegetable Store and I liked him in Big as well. He looks a little like Infinite's L no?
I am really looking forward to this drama. Especially the part where Lee Min Ho plays a double role for the first time!
BTW does Jung Ja-Wang in Police Unit 38 qualify as a bumbling hacker?

38's Ja Wang isn't quite a bumbling hacker, but a genius hacker he's not. But maybe we're getting there. I mean, there's already a bumbling programmer, right?

I meant Lucky Romance's Shim Bo Nui. She can be a bit bumbling sometimes, or did I confuse her with her She Was Pretty persona? Hwang Jung Eum does bumbling really well.

I was going to say Jawang. I'm sure his hacking was fine but he did not seem like he was a genius. OT in one of the BTS the actor said they were playing real porn in his office scenes and it was difficult to concentrate, hee.

I've waited for a news like this to come out for so long now. When I saw Shin on the title, I was like "Shin? That Shin, right?" Finally! I really liked him in *cough* BIG *cough* although he's basically in coma for the whole show.
I'm happy that in this role, he will be wide awake and moving.

that mixed of joseon-era in my love from the star, the reason I dropped it. Those scenes were boring for me. don't do this to me writer nim, I want to enjoy this drama of minho because this is his last drama before enlistment! :(

Still I am under the super duper-crazy-happy phase due to Lee Min Ho's coming back. ?????? I haven't been able to handdle the excitement..
The cast is beyoooooOoond awesome!!!
Sooo happy that there is no idol in this drama. Shin Won Hon aint an idol right?
I also believe there is Noo love Triangle...

I liked Shin in Big. He was the best part of that drama.
Hopefully, they will let him act here instead of having him sleep through most of that drama.

So far the plot sounds like a similar setup from MLFTS with the Joseon era and reincarnation, only this time Jun Ji Hyun plays the fantasy/ET character. Hope it has more than that, otherwise things will start feeling old soon.

Well finally! Shin in acting again. I really hope he gets more acting jobs after this. He's actually good in Big and in that GDragon and Ueno Juri drama, forgot the title. But yes, more leader Shin of Cross Gene! Fighting!!
