Song Ji-hyo to cheat on Lee Seon-kyun in This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair

 photo SongJiHyo_LeeSeonkyun1.jpg

Running Man Ace Song Ji-hyo (Ex-girlfriend Club) is coming back to dramaland! She’ll be starring in JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama called This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair as the titular wife. Her onscreen husband will be played by *drumroll please* Lee Seon-kyun (Miss Korea), and both leading actors have been confirmed for the project. Double score!

Based on a Japanese drama by the same name, This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair (Konshu Tsuma ga Uwaki Shimasu) is about a man who realizes his wife is on the verge of committing adultery. Afraid that his friends and family might find out, he proceeds to go online and post his worries and frustrations on a Cheated Spouses Anonymous community forum. This is a role that I can totally see Lee Seon-kyun in — a beta male who frets over his wife’s potential affair. It’s supposed to be a “comic healing” drama, so hopefully our couple ends up happy.

Also on the confirmed cast list for This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair are Yeh Ji-won (Oh Hae-young Again), who will appear as Lee Seon-kyun’s best friend’s wife, and BoA (Anticipate Love), who will play a writer at a broadcasting station. Lee Sang-yub (Master–God of Noodle) and Kim Hee-won (Let’s Eat 2) are also said to be in the drama, but their character synopses have not been revealed. Please, oh please, don’t let Lee Sang-yub have another tragic story arc… I don’t think I could take it after Master–God of Noodle and Doctors

This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair will be a Friday-Saturday drama premiering in October after Fantastic, which is the JTBC drama that follows currently-airing Age of Youth.

The cast is fine, but the plot is repelling. I can't believe people other than bros use terms like beta and alpha.

I also detest dramas that portray adultery. Its odd that some even glamorize it to make it sexy. So many people root for the cheaters, its disgusting.

Always makes me wonder on what sick monster who are married or dating someone else would take off her clothes for another person while their husband is at home thinking everything is ok. People are cold blooded.

but we still don't know if she will actually commit adultery or if she even considering it! maybe its all in his head.

Oh dear! Those are v strict standards. Context matters a teensy bit too. For e.g. if you don't take off your clothes for anyone else but your partner, but constantly reach out to some special other for all other kinds of sustenance, is that ok and not adultery? Who decides?

And, I get your point about beta males. But, actually when I read that same sentence, my first thought was that's so my type not least 'cos LSK figured in that sentence too!

Taking a 'concrete' example from drama world, there was no adulterous relationship between the OTP in Twenty Again. But, if they had chosen to explore a relationship (while she was in the gray zone of divorce/marriage and her husband thought of her as a dependent doormat), I'd like to think that I'd root for them.

Not the LSK can't be one heck of an alpha-male, ie. Pasta, Petty Romance.

I generally lurk but thought I should comment on this one.

Firstly, ajumma here and we use alpha and beta as terms. There's nothing wrong with being a beta, imo.

Secondly, I don't think ppl root for adulterers generally. Seems like you're seeing things in black and white. Hopefully, this drama will be about a couple solving their problems. For one thing, if the husband suspects the wife is about to have an affair and is posting about it rather than having a quiet chat with her, they definitely need to work on their COMMUNICATION.

Hee. Last time Lee Seonkyun was a beta male of a husband, his "wife" Im Soojung scared him shitless in All About My Wife :D. I'm wondering what kind of woman Song Jihyo would play. She has improved in the recent years as an actress, but she took looooong breaks in between her project, I half-thought she retired from acting.

I love RM casts and watch it every week, but unfortunately I have to agree.

Every drama she's in, she acts the same and just be Song Ji Hyo not her drama character, with lots of cameo from Blank Mong as well.

The same as Lee Kwang Soo unfortunately.

Or maybe their reality show persona is too strong and I watched them for so long, I get too attached and I cringed watching them acting, you know that feeling like if you watch your siblings acting like who they are not.

Kwang Soo is an amazing actor, you need to watch all his work. Koreans praised him a lot when he's acting. Watch Puck, Dear My Friends and Confession.

He was good in Dear My Friends, but pretty bad in his previous dramas imo. I watched IOIL and Puck and I was unimpressed. Perhaps it's because variety is acting as well, and you see so many expressions repeated over their RM appearances as well as in dramas. LKS does a lot better when his character isn't there for comic relief, so I think he's actually not a bad actor. Song Ji-hyo, on the other hand, is a terrible actress. I think she's gorgeous, but lacking a lot in acting skills.

I'm currently loving Age of Youth and am intrigued by Fantastic because of Kim Hyun-Joo (that makjang I Have A Lover got me good lol), now the tv channel signs up Ji Hyo opposite Lee Seon Kyun in a j-drama remake that also sounds interesting. 100% looking forward to this, Lee Sang-yub please have a "Happily Ever After" in this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that just maybe he might be the guy that she's thinking of cheating on him with.

As a JH fan, I am glad that she landed a role in a kdrama, after her Chinese projects. She is criminally under-used in Running Man, and more often than not, has been relegated to the role of the Monday GF.
This drama role would be a good way to distance herself from that persona, like how LKS does with his betrayer persona on RM and a totally different image in dramas.

Required fields are marked *

Totally agreed. While her Monday GF role opened up doors for her in her acting career a few years ago, it has since hit a wall and cast a shadow over her other professional pairings, despite the fact that she usually has more chemistry with them than KG on RM.

I personally had noticed a safer distance between her MC GF role and general career being established last year around the time Ex-GF Club was airing, but things definitely flipped completely around once it was cancelled.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the cancellation did a number on JH's own confidence as an actress and sunbae, considering how she was mainly surrounded (and looked up to) by rookie actors on Ex-GF Club. That theory seems to be supported by the reports about how she apologized throughout the wrap-up party.

I'm already grateful that the cast of this drama is mostly made up by experienced actors, so I hope she can grow more by learning from them and by gaining her confidence back by being around them. Her variety skills seem to improve best in a similar dynamic atmosphere, in instances when she's not cornered into her MC GF role. Therefore it's likely the same is needed for her to reestablish her career/refine her acting skills as an actress in South Korea.

Hopefully RM can also support her by continuing to show off other facets of her variety persona. I have no doubt that any improvement in her variety skills will also positively affect her acting skills; she just needs room to explore in both worlds.

RM's production crew is still stuck in a rut when it comes to doing that itself since there are plenty of pairings/groups they haven't properly explored the potential of yet, and the production crew has a bad habit of regressing to old formulas/groups after a few exciting episodes of exploring other things. I don't know if that's a conscious decision because of their current issue with ratings or if it has to do with laziness, but I sincerely hope the future development of it doesn't hinder JH's current attempt to refine her image an actress. Anyway, fighting, Jihyo! Hope this works out.

As someone who really likes Jihyo as a person and not really as an actress, I hope this project works out for her as well. I also hope she and RM ditch the MC thing completely because she looks uncomfortable as hell in that role.

I'm really excited for Lee Sun Kyun (my handsome ahjushiii still really like his role in my coffee prince) but to be honest don't really for Song Ji Hyo. I've been watched some of her drama and she ended up not really convincing me about her character (as in Emergency Couple and Ex Girlfriend club).
Sooooooo, I hope this one will turn out good for uri ahjushii's sake

I'm glad that more K-dramas are going to be made with different kind of stories nowadays. I think it's ok even if they are remakes. Anyway, the premise and story of the original drama are interesting. I want to see how they will take it into a K-drama, so I'm going to try this one too.

Anyway Im happy with the casting. SJH is not really a good actress but she at leas watcheable.?

Just wondering, what drama OCN is putting on Fri-Sat timeslot after Police Unit 38? I haven't heard of that. Or maybe OCN won't have another drama in that timeslot?
I've heard K2 and Fantastic will go head to head, then this drama will follow Fantastic while tvN have Goblin.

You think so? The thought did come to my mind, like why does he get paired up with actresses with so much less experience all the time. But somehow he manages to make things work. Just look at Miss Korea with Lee Yeon-hee, who was panned even more severely than SJH.

He may be older and therefor have more experience, but Song Ji Hyo is a matured and experienced actress too, despite looking sooo young, she has been acting for atleast 10 years in every kind of genre, romance, action, thriller ect. and in the big screen and small screen as a lead actress all these years, so don't underestimate her!

Variety persona aside, I did find her likeable and charming in Ex-Girlfriend Club so I'm glad to see trying another rom-com (wait I assume this is one?) again.

LSK's role reminds me of his character in All About My Wife except, now he DOESN'T want his wife to cheat on him lol

P.S Byun Yo-han and SJH were so sweet together in Ex-Gf Club! <3 I felt bad that their drama got cut short, but tbh, I think it made the show much more enjoyable watch as we got to see the friends-to-lovers relationship develop without all the usual unnecessary angst. Plus, that drama was just plain funny.
