MBC’s Night Light kicks off three-way power struggle with table read

The cast of MBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Night Light gathered for its first table read. Night Light is a tale of three ambitious people who are sleepless in their desire for greater power, wealth, and success. They leap into the furnace of greed as they engage in the endless battle to acquire more riches. Actors Lee Yo-won (Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki), Jin Gu (Descended from the Sun), and UEE (Marriage Contract) make up the avaricious trio.

Lee Yo-won plays the character of Seo Yi-kyung, a cold crystal of a woman and the embodiment of heated passion who wants to be the queen of her own enterprise. Jin Gu takes on the role of Park Gun-woo, the handsome and brilliant chaebol prince of Mujin Group. He’s a man of cool-headed judgment and eloquent speech who loves Yi-kyung. UEE plays the part of Lee Sae-jin, a woman who wants to throw away her dirt spoon in favor of a silver one; she desires to be Seo Yi-kyung. The fates of these three get entangled as they greedily clamor for bigger, better, higher, stronger.

Also in attendance for the table read were PD Lee Jae-dong (My Spring Days) and writer Han Ji-hoon (Last), along with supporting cast members Jung Hae-in (Yes, That’s How it Is), Jeon Gook-hwan (Our Gab-soon), Jung Han-yong (Jang Young-shil), Lee Jae-yong (That Sun in the Sky), Yoon Bok-in (That Sun in the Sky), and model-turned-actress Lee Ho-jung in her very first drama.

Well, consider me intrigued because as we all know, mo’ money = mo’ problems = mo’ drama. It’ll be nice to have Jin Gu back on our screens after his lovable turn in smash hit Descended, and I can reasonably expect assured performances from both Lee Yo-won and UEE.

Night Light will premiere in November after Woman with a Suitcase ends.

Rofl. My first thought when I read your comment was "How do you know the name of her highlighter?! The highlighter on the face?!" But I scrolled back up and saw the highlighter pen in her hand. /fail/ xD

Funny...at first when I read Sua's comment I thought it was in reference to Uee's highlights as in hair highlights.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who thought that. I was pretty amazed too about how @Sua could tell what highlighter UEE's using just by looking at her face! LOL.

So Lee Yo Won will play another Song Yoon Ah K2 character? I love both, please don't make her evil.

I love to see a new side of Lee Yo Won. She already impressive in Empire of Gold, so I am looking forward to see what her challenge this time. I don't mind seeing an "evil;" side like SOng Yong Ah character, because they both are amazing.

Jin Gu! Get that hair off your forehead!

To address the actual drama though, this sounds really interesting. It'll be different to have three leads that would normally be the antagonists in any other drama.

Can't Jin Gu just play Dae-young again and be in uniform? Myung-joo must be losing her mind seeing him with two other ladies. No but jokes aside, this sounds boring. I'd rather he does more romance or melos or even action over silly corporate intrigue. Meh.

But hopefully it does turn out amazing. I'd hate anything that would downplay all the reward Jin Gu got by being so awesome in DOTS.

I have been following the (non-existent) promotions for this one and can confirm that LYW is the lead. The drama sounds very interesting on paper so hopefully it won't disappoint.

Where did you find it? Ahh I am so relieve to hear that! Not that I dislike Uee, in fact I like her a lot after Marriage Contract, but with Lee Yo Won comes to the picture, this lady deserve to be the centre of the drama.

LYW suits corporate drama so well, so I hope this drama won't disappoint.

Several lines of evidence actually:

1. Lee Yo-won is top billed on all Korean sites and articles, as confirmed in the Soompi forums. And she's also top billed on AsianWiki and HanCinema, as confirmed by my own Googling ;)
2. She and Jin Gu were the only ones to film in Japan, although that might be because of their characters' backgrounds. However, this means that they'll have more screen-time and you can sort of infer that she's the lead over UEE.
3. She's Lee Yo-won.

Honestly, I guess we were all very wrong to think Lee Yo-won could be second lead. We just assumed it was so straightaway! But to look at it in a positive light, UEE has come a long way for us to think that it's possible that she supplants LYW as first lead.

Yes, because she is LEE YO WON. .
The filmed in Japan? Now I'm more excited to see it. Jin goo is lucky coz he got to film overseas again after DOTS ;)

I hope it will get recap here so we the fangirls can hang out on recap thread to discuss about this drama. ;)

just make sure that uee didn't play secondary oles since 2010 ,she is always the lead and she is nominated for many awards for ach caracter she plyed, make sure that uee was offred the lead role to act in this drama 12 september, lee yo won and jin gu got the affer a day after, you can say three of them are leads so stop saying uee is a secondary role, alsoif you search in google mbc drama night light all the search are talking about uee offread the kead role ,so let's stop at this poibt and focus about supporting this drama

But Lee Yo Won also never be in secondary roles from long time ago. She has her leading status from her long time ago, though.

Oooh, I like all three of the leads, especially Lee Yo Won! She was great in Ms. Temper! That drama got me unexpectedly hooked. It reminded me somewhat of Miss Korea, which was also a pleasant surprise.

Can an ambitious and wealthy woman ever beat out a poor candy when it comes to love, success, and winning the heart of the male lead in kdramaland?

Aaaaa. This sounds so my cup of tea... With a solid trio, and I love all of them, especially Lee Yo Won , hope this drama won't disappoint. Or even the writing is crap, I will still watch.

Just give us more 'bad' ladies, dramaland. We have so countless candy girls already.

Oh my goodness, time flies!! The last time I heard anything about this drama, news reports were still in the midst of battling with each other confirming, then un-confirming, etc. whether or not Jin Goo and Uee would be signing on to the drama.... And now, not only do we have confirmations, we also have a full cast and the first table read =))))
I'm excited to see Jin Goo back taking up a more meatier role (the last 2 dramas I watched/ kept tabs of him were "Decended..." and "Falling for Innocence" a.k.a. "Falling for Soon Jung), since the last 2 dramas I watched/kept tabs on with him were more lighter fair
For Lee Yo Won, she's never really stuck out and surprised or grasped me in any of her roles, but then again, I haven't watched any of her more recent works like "Empire Of Gold" or "Miss Temper and Nam Jung Ki", so we'll have to see where this new drama takes me with her
As for Uee, I love her <3 She's become one of my few dramaland girl crushes after watching her basically OWN IT and KILL IT in "Marriage Contract".... Dang it, now that I've mentioned it, I just might have to go back and watch it again for the umpteenth time.... Schoolwork can figure itself out lol jkjk

Gosh!

BOTH Lee Yo-won and UEE are soooooo amazing in melodramas. During those scenes where you kinda cringe at some actors because of the intensity of the emotions, BOTH these actresses don't fake nothing! They are ALL IN even if it means losing dignity.

Lee Yo-won's heavy scenes in Horse Doctor & Queen Seondeok are not awkward at all. In fact, she made me cry buckets and buckets in Horse Doctor during the last parts when she wept and wept because of guilt. AHHH MY HEART.

AND UEE?! Are we talking about fantastic UEE who did a marvelous performance in Marriage Contract?!! Marvelous enough to silence her "she's-just-an-idol-body-and-face" doubters! She did an awesome job acting alongside THE TALENTED HUNK Lee Seo-jin. Shucks!!

Jin Gu. Well I liked him in Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek. Hehe!
