Chun Woo-hee, Yoo Joon-sang consider new SBS legal thriller Falsify

We’re about to be up to our eyeballs in prosecutors, which seems to be the hot career choice for drama characters this year. On the heels of their latest hit drama Defendant, SBS has announced that they’re going to produce a new legal drama called Falsify, about prosecutors and reporters. Offers are out to Chun Woo-hee (The Wailing) and Yoo Joon-sang (Pied Piper) to play the leading roles, and they’re considering favorably.

The drama is about a world where the truth has been turned upside-down, and a prosecutor and a journalist who aim to turn that world right-side up. Between this drama, Defendant, Whisper, Beware This Woman, and While You Were Sleeping, it sounds like SBS plans to fill their entire year with legal eagles. The new series comes from PD Lee Jung-heum, who was the second PD on Jealousy Incarnate and directed the drama special I’m After You, and writer Kim Hyun-jung, a junior writer on Who Are You–School 2015 who also wrote drama specials Junior High Student Miss A and Her Perfect Day.

Chun Woo-hee is up to play a prosecutor in the violent crimes division who has never shown weakness in her entire life. She graduated at the top of her class and was under a spotlight at the prosecutor’s office for being the youngest female prosecutor in history. She’s success-driven and forthright and outspoken, which leads her peers to be envious or suspicious of her.

Yoo Joon-sang has been offered the role of a journalist (which he also played in his last drama, Pied Piper), a cynical, stubborn, prickly ajusshi who’s a skeptic with a lot of grievances to air. He was once a famed legend at the city desk, but because of his lack of filter and inflexible personality, he made enemies of the newspaper bigwigs.

It sounds like we can expect a hard-hitting drama about good people doing the right thing and going against corruption, which is understandably a popular theme in Korea right now. Film actress Chun Woo-hee has received quite a number of drama offers in recent months, but none of the projects have worked out; fingers crossed that this will be the role to draw her back to dramaland.

Falsify is slated to air on Mondays and Tuesdays following Whisper and My Sassy Girl, which puts the premiere in July.

Seriously though!!! Am not saying these legal dramas are bad...defendant was good..but my main problem is that they don't allow for relaxation...I spend most of my time thinking and being tense while watching them because there is so much fight against corruption, killings and investigations going on......I need romcoms!! Sweet sugary romcoms with normal people just falling in love and being funny about it!... I want to watch a drama and find myself happy and relaxed. Why are there no romantic dramas in sight this year? What happened to all the love in the world?!! Please dramaland...grab jo in sung or Kim soo hyun or song joon ki and mix them with Han hyo joo or Gong hyo Jin or seo hyun Jin and make me a romance drama that will make my heart race!!!

Lol...yeah...unfortunately for me..I dropped do bong soon after the first episode...it was cute until they got serious about the whole crazy psychotic kidnapper guy thing ..immediately I saw that I immediately closed my laptop...I have had enough of crazy psychotic killers from watching 16 episodes of Voice and my brain is now shut from them for the mean time.

Another option - go back to past drama. There must be romcoms that you haven't watch it yet. This is the right time for you to do that.

Yeah...I am thinking of trying the liar and his lover...the only thing stopping me is joy's smile. Haha Before the drama came out...I thought all the stills were good as long as she wasn't smiling in them...I don't know exactly what's wrong with it...it feels too too bright maybe. Lol...I know very soon frustration will make me watch it but based on some clips from the two episodes I saw on Instagram...she smiles a lot and her smile is distracting..anyhow...I hope MBC, KBS and TVN might give us dfferent genres

Problem is I tried, but then the jdrama version main lead was all broody and dark, whereas LHW here is too a chocolate hero type, so I can't warm up to him, or neither to joy. Joy seems alright, but the overall drama tone seems too cheerful, which is kinda opposite to the original version. I wish kdramas sometimes go the jdrama route, like they are too much on the surface, and less about what goes on in mind of these characters, which jdramas tend to do a lot. Also these new trends with too young and green, inexperienced actors, [ which I don't have problem with], but they don't seem to be able to carry the whole drama on their own, past example : Uncontrollably fond, where suzy was terrible as hell, and KWB albeit quite good an actor, couldn't bear the whole weight by himself.

I tried to watch ep 1 of th e liar and his lover. Terrible (-ly childish). Is my honest opinion.

@Greenfields, same here. When I realized it was a musical, I bailed; didn't even finish the 1st ep. I foresee a lot of cheese in this drama.

Queen of the ring is kind of amazing, it's sad that seul gi doesn't get a 16 episodes drama yet when she has been on the industry for so long where idols get acting offers within one or two years of their venture..sigh.

Yeah, agree with you. After Defendant (with so much chasing and running *my brain*) and Voice, I wanted to watch light series and was excited when SWDBS aired. But when it involve some killer, I was like ..."Another crime drama?" I had to hold it for a while. Now, there's none of the KDrama in my watchlist. I'm currently watching Chinese Drama, Ten Miles of Peach Blossom and other old romance drama. Need some happiness right now lol ^^

That's why I like Chief Kim so much. It's about fighting corruption with unexpected methods and a lot of craziness. Beat your opponents with laughter. It also has the charming gluttonous prosecutor-turned-baddie-but-really-softie-somewhere-deep-down, Seo Yul. I don't even need romance there; all the bromance is killing me in a good way. :)

Age of Youth season 2 will complete my girl friendship this year. Radiant Office - the trio is my fav! Please no love triangle, we need to see more of geunine friendship between man and woman in kdrama.

I still prefer Chun Woo Hee to Kim Ji Won, but may be she looks mature to Park Seo Joon.

Yay to CWH go to the opposite network, and might be winning in rating.

Oh no, SBS lost 2 (two) whole viewers. However will they cope with this downward spiral. How absolutely dreadful, they must feel so pressed right now.

Seriously, I love legal dramas, and I love dramas with little to no romance. Give it all to me, I'll suck it all up.

SBS: we are so pressed right now after spending 15 billion won in that mess of a drama last year. All we can afford are legal dramas this year. They are cheap to make. ... Seems to be working for us this year, don't you think?

Gelai: oh, I almost forgot about that. You are correct. It makes sense financially. I'm sorry for doubting you. ... Reach for the remote and change channel.

@Mag: Moon Lovers

@Gelai LOL we have similar response, only that I have a bit of patience left since the upcoming dramas featuring my faves, Whisper, While You Were Sleeping and Be Careful of This Woman. And Falsify how can I refuse to watch Yoon Joon Sang AND Chun Woo Hee? It's not every day we get two talented actors in one drama! Without an idol (not yet?) in sight. It seems SBS want to make sure I'm NOT watching any of their dramas, only to cast my faves in them!! How can I possibly cope with that?

In all seriousness, I don't have a serious problem with what SBS is doing. It's really a great year for them so far.

And it seems that there are many who watch and enjoy legal dramas. So kudos to everyone.

I love these two actors. SBS is doing many legal drama this year - trend maybe. Last year was medical drama. I am not sure about this writer, but Chun Woo Hee is quite picky so hopefully if she accepts, means it is a good role and drama.

Honestly whoever producing a good romcom (the fluffy one) will have more advantages since there are many legal, thriller drama now. I am looking at you My Secret Romance (which will start next month).

Does the surge of legal dramas have anything to do with Korea's political situation? Because it's getting really stale now lol.

I like the switch in gender roles for this show. It's not the first time for an actress to portray a tough prosecutor. Yet sometimes I feel that young actresses are approached most likely to play (rookie) prosecutors who are *ahem* clumsy and naive. So I am very delighted by the casting and I'm already looking forward to Chun Woo-hee's portrayal in the drama. :-D

I wonder if legal eagles are alright with this trend, 5 dramas full of legal people in one year just on SBS!!! From detectives, prosecutors, lawyers and judges, they get rotating spotlight it seems.
Between legal dramas and sageuk, I wonder if someone (some people?) have set the theme of the year!

I thought they will fill the timeslot with Doctors's writer new project 'Temperature of Love'.
This year is full with legal, office, time travel, ajuma's revenge / her husband having affair.
I thought after sucess of DotS, they will make similar dramas. But looks like they don't.

I love both actors but I'm not sure will be watching it. SBS really has this persistent act. It was medical theme dramas few years ago (or last year?). Aren't they think they should give their viewer some time to breathe from watching all those heavy theme dramas.

Anyway, i miss all those good romance dramas so I'm rewatching My Name is Kim Sam Soon and Discovery of Romance right now. I enjoy all these sweet 'cookies' ?

The only thing I'm excited about this is hearing about Yoo Joon Sang. I've not watched him in anything except Pied Piper and he really acted so well there and expressed his hard character so good and I really liked the overall drama as well however later when I checked out I got to know it got low ratings sadly. Anyway good to hear about him.

(Thanks garbage phone for posting my comment before I was finished typing!) Ahem. Whilst some gnash their teeth (and understandably so) over the dearth of romances this season/year, I can only throw fistfuls of confetti in the air and celebrate.

This serious crime-solving ish is my jam y'all. Thank you kdrama execs for making all of my dreams come true!

I, for one am really happy about the types of shows coming out this year. I've had enough of the romcoms and am glad to see a shift in kdramas.

It's weird thinking about when I started watching kdramas 6 years ago and all I cared about were the cute romances and the second lead syndrome.
