Announcement: Dramabeans is getting a makeover

Attenshons!

A new Dramabeans is on its way! We’ve been talking for months about a redesigned Dramabeans with upgraded features, and we’re excited to inform you that we’re finally (finally!) ready to roll it out this weekend.

We will be making the switch over to the new site this Friday night/Saturday ungodly hours of morning, which means that during the transition period, we will be disabling the commenting functions on the site and not posting new content until we’ve made it over to the other side. Fingers crossed, the new site will be up and running by Saturday (America time zones), and you will be able to resume commenting on posts.

On the new and improved Dramabeans, you’ll also be able to sign up for accounts, configure profile pages, and more good stuff, which we will explain in more detail once we make the crossover. Till then, wish us good luck!

is it like soompi.. changing into a full fledged forum/community?

From what it looks and sounds like, I'd say yes! I think it'll feel more of a community because everyone can sign up for accounts with usernames and have profile pages that we can all follow and talk to each other at.

But we already put a username and our email now!!!
What's the point of asking for more information if not to restrict the spontaneity and freedom of the messages?
I hope this doesn't become one of those websites where one would like to comment, but can't be bothered...

Hi, Nu. That concerns me as well. But maybe there still might be the option to comment the old way, if people do not want to create a profile. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

0

Maybe, the new site will allow us to have our own profile and be able to easily see responses to our comments.

0

Hmm, I'm not sure I see how more information is required from us (perhaps just an extra profile pic, and a password to login), and how that little bit of information restricts the spontaneity and freedom of messages.

The biggest change will probably just be allowing beanies to better track replies to their comments, and to me that seems like it will encourage more discussion, not less, because you can keep tabs on even comments that you posted a while ago and not miss replies.

Also, a general response to other comments worrying that DB will turn into Soompi or AKP: since the site content itself isn't changing, I think it's safe to say that everything we like about Dramabeans isn't going away.

AKP became the way it is not because of the commenting system, but the commenters themselves, the lack of stepping in to remove very problematic comments, and the content that the editors and writers chose to publish.

And here I am ....already taking screenshots of my soon to be old world. Looking forward to our new hangout site.

I remember it too, it took a whole two or three days for me to love the new theme. Can't wait to see the change. Good luck with the switch.

Kiara, that was the most fun stroll down memory lane! ? Boobs and balls! And at 36.1, Do we witness the beginning of mary being sucked into Total Planet Beanness?

Same here! I'm gonna miss this one but I'm pretty excited for the new world!

Not that excited for a Soompi like site.
It was a comfy and small world of DB that appealed me the most. Other websites look too impersonal to have any interest.

Sigh.

True! Will really miss this version.. have been lurking around here for almost 4 years and commenting since 2 years.. Fingers crossed for the new face of DB ?
Let's take a moment to give a standing ovation to Javabeans and Girlfriday for their diligence and hard work in keeping DB up consistently for 10 years and grooming an army of recap minions(yes all the sunbaes and hoobaes). Above all for creating a community spanning all nations irrespective of cast, creed and religion. Only qualifier is love for Korean drama. Only disqualifier is being spoilery (oh and also being insensitive to others). Can't imagine my life post Korean drama love without dramabeans..Good luck DB team. ?

The time for user accounts is finally here! I'm excited.

What a momentous 10th year.

I'm excited to me an official member, since DB already has such wonderful community spirit!

I'm hoping that when KCon NY rolls around it will also be time for an east coast Dramabeans celebratory gathering of sorts!!! Just thought I'd bring it up so that the idea isn't forgotten. ;)

Often times site porting will have hiccups.. only difference is big or small.. don't be too stressed and still hope for glitchfree porting.. :)

Yay this is amazing news! I was always wondering when the site would be updated to a new design, since many websites are very versatile now.

This is great news for all beanies and the team to connect together more than ever.

I am so looking forward to this change!! Best wishes for the makeover. May Dramabeans look as pretty as any heroine after the rags- to- riches makeover is forced upon her by the chaebol hero (though hopefully not like Gum Jan Di) :P

Looking forward to it! Good luck with the transition DB team! I have been a (mostly) silent lurker of your site for the past 4-5 years, and just lately starting to drop comments, and join the discussions occassionally when I feel compelled to heee... Love this community!<3

As a '70s hair-color commercial said, DB, "You're not getting older... you're getting better!". Somehow, you always manage to find ways to improve on what was already great. It's been a privilege watching this site evolve over the years, and I'm both super excited and a little nervous knowing that a major change is in store. Cheers to the grand adventure! I hope you take a vacation once things are stable and running smoothly. (Stop laughing!) May the transition go smoothly-- hwaiting!

I am glad i discovered this site 2 years ago, started commenting regularly a year ago, although I've been drama fan for 8 years but I wonder why I didn't notice this gem, i wish I discovered it sooner, but better late than never.

Discovering this site opened a new world for me i was watching drama by myself for years but after DB it was more exciting it feels like watching with all the chingus here, reading everyone point of view the discussions, commenting on casting news everything in this site is fun and exciting.

Looking forward to the new era, Good luck.

Who else first panicked? I'm so afraid of change, my first instinct was to shout, "NOOO!". But thankfully, I calmed down and I'm wishing you the best, dramabeans!!

Can we keep the yin and yang logo? Okay, I'll pull myself together. Congrats dramabeans!!!
