Drama viewership ratings for the week of Apr. 24-30, 2017

Though Whisper started out the week in the number one spot, surprisingly, it fell behind Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People on Tuesday. Or not surprisingly, depending on how you look at it—Rebel is building up to its exciting climax, so it’d make sense that viewers may have been swayed to the sageuk to see how it’ll all come to an end.

Over in the middle of the week, Mystery Queen maintained its spot in first place, though it’s not pulling in anything close to the kinds of numbers Chief Kim brought. Still, it’s a far cry above competitors Radiant Office and Saimdang, Light’s Diary, the latter of which will end up limping to its finish after its episode cut.

As for the weekend cable shows, Man to Man saw a jump to 3.5% with its even episode, while Chicago Typewriter managed a very decent 2.4%. Tunnel is still the leader as far as weekend cable shows go at 4.9%, but I’d say we should give Man to Man a little time. The coming weeks (what with all the pre-emptions) will be interesting to see.

I hope that Radiant Office's Finale Week would increase its ratings. Wait, would it be preempted as well?

Seeemd like no pre-empt for Radiant Office, luckily, based on the latest drama schedule in DB ?

Man To Man - Anyone else felt the lull in Eps 3 - 4? I missed the fast-paced zaniness of the first eps, even though Doha is relatively more fleshed out / sane.

I skip most of the super cool spy stuff (it's stuff we've already seen at some point...) to get to character hijinks. Agreed that this week's episodes were less crazy - but it did give us the chance to better sympathize with more characters. I'm ok for things slowing down if it means we can get character background/development.

I thought the character background on DH makes her more sympathetic, but that doesn't mean I like her any better. They are introducing more and more characters into the story. I wonder how they are going to merge the storylines into one cohesive story.

True, It feels like our ghost agent is solving a game with multiple levels. Each time he solves one, he gets a new one to get close to the goal. So, I guess, the stakes won't rise all on a sudden but steadily. To sustain 16 episodes, that's not a bad plan. Personally, I loved episode 3 and 4, lots of hijinks mixed with better explanation of each character and their dynamics.

I like the show so far, to me episode three was more funnier. I haven't seen episode four yet.

I thought Epi 3 and 4 are okay. They are not as zany because they still have to focus on the super spy stuff that they promised us through Agent K. Now that DH is more tempered, the whole show seems much better.

I'm so glad that CT managed to get more than 2%. The story is getting even more interesting now with all 3 leads finally connecting in present time (plus the romance and bromance finally blooming) so I hope more people will tune in to watch it.
Tunnel is slaying it. Love this drama so much, I don't know how I'll handle next week pre-emption.

I don't know how I will handle Friday/Saturday without Tunnel when it's over, 4 episodes left, it's sad that it's almost over :(.
I really love everything about Tunnel, yesterday episode was so amazing heartbreaking and thrilling, can't wait for today episode.

Me too. Voice is more psychotic than Tunnel (I mean the main psychotic killer)...and it becomes a little repetitive when their cases via the call centre becomes rather same/repetitive to me, so the thrill wasn't there for me.

I like Tunnel, Signal and Gap Dong. Gap Dong is another great drama focusing on the same cases in Tunnel but had no fantasy genre in it but more romance in it. The writer also like to throw the WRONG clues to viewers to mislead the viewers. I've really guessed wrongly who Gap Dong (main killer) was and it was mind blowing when they finally revealed who it was !! This is the biggest difference between Gap Dong and Tunnel. The latter have obvious and correct hints thrown to viewers but when they are revealed they are still intense !!

I hope Radiant Office, Chicago Typewriter and Man To Man will increase more next week. Radiant Office especially deserves better number, so hopefully some viewers will tune in for the finale week. But will it gets pre -empty too? sigh. CT deserves at least around 3% because this drama is good. Man To Man I dont think it can get as high as SWDBS but I think it can get around 3-4% at the very least. Crossing my fingers to see the numbers go up next week. Rebel has 4 epi left, so i wonder what the highest number ut could get.

Still loving Father Is Strange as my weekend show. You're Too Much is doing well too, although there are still some viewers cannot adapt with Jang Hee Jin. But my problem is more on Kang Tae Oh's acting that seems dull and less emotion. Initially I thought he was OK, but now he made me cringe most of times. Well that's my problem with most of his group members and still confused how their agency chose them for 'actor group' when their acting are just so so.

Episode 4 is more hilarious as compared to 3, probably because his mission is completed in Episode 4, so there is more time for subtle funny moments. Episode 3 is a bit tedious because of the mission he has to accomplish, so a lot of time is spent on that.

I personally don't feel that she's annoying, but I see lots of comments on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, hah! Wonder if it's because people think that someone "better" should have been casted opposite their beloved oppa. She might have been over the top as a sasaeng fan in E1-2, but in E3 she really got fleshed out as a character, which explained a lot of her actions, and I like her more and more. I'm totally rooting for her!

I am one of the minority who doesn't like PHJ but I watched CITT and i was watching Man to Man i have nothing against the actress since i am not familiar with her, but the character is annoying even if she toned down in the latest episode I personally still don't like her because the first impression ruined the character.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I don't find her annoying and I think people should wait around to at least the end of episode 4 to decide if they like her or not. There's also no proof that her character or the actress have been a drag on the ratings. For sure, there are some Koreans complaining about Kim Min Jung's "ugly hair and eyebrows," but in Korea at least this is drowned out by positive responses to the show and the most popular Naver clips for the last two episodes have been ones of Park Hae Jin and Kim Min Jung.

That's why ratings discussions are frustrating sometimes. People can try to use them to justify their own response to a show - as in, this show's ratings are dropping because of . Some viewers who don't like Kim Min Jung or Cha Do Ha tried to latch onto a brief lull in the ratings for episode 3 to say she was making people flee the show, when it's not even clear ratings are dropping since they bounced back up to near premiere numbers for episode 4.

Cha Do Ha is just standard kdrama heroine. To put it simply, many of them are just dislike Kim Min Jung because she is not popular, and unknown actress for them. Of course there are some constructive crtiticms for her acting. I was also sceptical at first not because she is not good actress, but it is refreshing to see her in non-villain role (i only watched her in few drama anyway). It wont happen if it is played by their favourite idols or actress. Anyway, after 4 epi I started to like her better. I am just not a fan of her hair lol.

Sometimes Knetz are more rationale. In this case, Kim Min Jung is one of the eg. Other eg Jang Hee Jin also faced some flak from international fans when she replaced Gu Hye Sun in You're Too Much and blamed her for the decrease in rating when the Knetz responds are more positive. Jeon So Min since she joined Running Man, some fans are way too obsessive because afraid she will take Song Jo Hyo's spot. Park Hye Soo also faced the same situation in Introverted Boss. The actressess (especially the unpopular ones) always being blamed esp if the rating is low.

1
1

Required fields are marked *

Thats also reminds me how of how Kim Gu Eun in Goblin got lots of hate comments from knetz about her looks (and she still does), and how she's not good enough for GY also her 19 years character was annoying, but despite that people kept watching and the drama was a hit.

2

I think the problem is with how her character is written, like someone said in MQ Choi Kang Hee's hair and looks are terrible Do Hee's look and outfits is much better than CKH, even though I never liked CKH before but I admit that she's really likable in MQ, (in my opinion this role is her best), but I don't read that much hateful comments about her looks, meanwhile KMJ is getting a lot of hate so it might be also the actress portrayal not only the writing.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

It is definitely OK to give some constructive comments about her acting and portrayal, even some top actors receive this kind of comment, so I guess it is not a problem. But I also saw many hate comments like she is ugly, not prety enough to be female lead etc- I was referring to this. And blaming any actor alone for the drop of rating is not right. It could be a reason, but definitely not the only reason.

There are many differences between both characters - Cha Do Ha and Seol Ok in MQ. Seol Ok gives many reasons for viewers to love her from the beginning but not in CDH's case, at least not very easily to love her from the first epi.

0

Her character is okay and BTW she started as a child actor so I don't think she is not that popular as she won some awards too. I think the people don't like her cause most of the viewers wants to see pretty actresses on the screen even though they are lacking on their acting. But for me I think she is doing fine. This is just my opinion as I watch Korean dramas not because the actor/actress are popular and pretty/handsome but I watch them if they got me hooked on their pilot episodes and the story gets better and better with good acting.

How is secret romance fairing? First ep was so dull and predictable that I finished it in less than 15 min. But from the second onwards it got better and though it's cliche, the drama has got this addictive fluffiness to it. later I heard that the director is the same as 1% of something and so no wonder the show is so sweet and smexy. It even had jeon so min in cameo.

Me! Me! I'm watching it because of the lead guy. Hahaha. The show is really predictable and the typical cliched romance we all know in dramas buy I actually enjoy it.
I didn't know it has the same director as 1% of Something but I guess that's the reason why I like it. This one is an easy watch and I just take it as it is. Something to balance the dramas I watch which are mostly on crime, time travel, etc.

I really like watching Korean dramas. I usually wonder how people could express such extreme emotions for actors/actresses they do not know personally. Even if you do know them personally, it is so toxic to hate anyone, it really hurts you the hater. For me, this is the first time I am seeing Kim Min Jung in Man to Man, and I think she is a good actress. My heart really broke for her and I was crying with her when Park Hae-Jin was trying to get her off his back at the ending of episode 4. I am really hoping that Park Hae-Jin will not use her the way he did the russian mafia boss's daughter.
