Pre-emptions in store for Chicago Typewriter, Rebel, Tunnel, Whisper

The South Korean presidential election is coming up in under two weeks, which means that this is probably just the first wave of drama pre-emptions in store for us. With debates and other election-related news specials popping up in the days leading up to the election, we have quite a few dramas already announcing programming changes. I know, it’s never good news for a drama addict! But on the upside, we’ll probably get a bunch of hilarious memes out of it.

tvN’s Chicago Typewriter will not air this Friday, April 28 due to presidential debates. Thankfully you won’t have to wait too long, because both Episodes 7 and 8 will air as a double-header on Saturday, April 29. I was just starting to get invested in the 1930s friendship and love triangle between Yoo Ah-in, Im Soo-jung, and Go Kyung-pyo, so this comes at a very inopportune time, but surely I can wait one day.

MBC’s Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People will be pre-empted twice over the next two weeks: There will be no episodes aired on Tuesday, May 2 for presidential debates, and then again on Tuesday, May 9 for Election Day. That means the show will conclude a week later than expected, on May 16. This one is a little more disappointing, given that I’m already feeling some strain in the pace of the last few episodes. I know, I know—a peasant rebellion doesn’t happen overnight! But some of us have been waiting for 26 episodes and could use a pick-me-up like a husband-wife reunion, is all I’m sayin’.

OCN’s Tunnel will take a break next weekend on May 6-7, which means that Episodes 13 and 14 will air a week later on May 13-14. I’ve been seeing some fan wall posts from beanies wailing about having to wait for the next episode of Tunnel just after a normal cliffhanger, so I can’t imagine this news will go over well. I’m sorry? Time travel sure would be useful right about now.

Last but not least, SBS’s Whisper will be pre-empted on May 9 for Election Day. Producers are still considering a 1-episode extension for the series to make up for it, so I suppose in the case of Whisper, we might end up ahead. Unless the extension somehow causes the plot to derail completely, because the average ratio of betrayals to episodes is about 17:1.

Fingers crossed that there won’t be any more pre-emptions ahead.

Good time to rewatch old dramas for laughs. I'm currently watching 2 but my heart is not in it.

This is my first time commenting, all because of Rebel and Tunnel. They better give me my Ga Ryung/Gil Dong reunion in the end. As for tunnel the cliffhanger is killing me WHY?!! I'm on the fence right now about should I be happy or sad that he's back.
