No special ringtone on my phone --- just one of the tones that came with the phone. There are several to chose from on the phone, and I've gone through them, but they all sound awful. So I stayed with the default tone, which is like a chime sound. I should change it.

Nice, shiny new article on CT...
-----
Critics praise Yoo Ah In’s acting skills in playing two different characters from different eras. Many said he successfully created two very different persons. From their physical features alone, Han Se Joo and Seo Hwi Young are not even close to distant cousin. On top of that, Yoo Ah In successfully created different attitude, gestures, face muscles, and tone for each of the characters; the eccentric brassy Han Se Joo and the mysterious poised Seo Hwi Young– and these details made people believe that they are two people for real. It refreshed my memory too that Yoo Ah In can pull off a comedic role.
Critics on Ohmynews [Ohmynews is one of the very few news portals publishing independent reviews on dramas, films or books] made some interesting notes on Chicago Typewriter‘s scriptwriter Jin Soo Wan. Here are the summaries of their opinion:
Writer Jin Soo Wan is digging the psychological activities through a slow building process of the storyline, which stimulates the audience to think. She is excellent at delivering deep messages in a seemingly obvious and childish setting.
Novelist Park Jin Gyu, who wrote award-winning novel “Suspicious Molds” wrote in Ent Media that, “from the perspective of a realistic novelist, Chicago Typewriter underlines the reality of a trapped novelist, a character played by Yoo Ah In. Han Se Joo is a wacky and demanding personality, he is just like a myth of a fabulous artist that people [Koreans] have been craving for a long time– a well-worn, bizarre artist, a character that fits in the framework of the Koreans’ mind.” Han Se Joo told his rival novelist Baek Tae Min, “Instead of spending your time in the hair salon, write like crazy” –this is no different from the writer’s reality.
It is a bit understandable that Jin, as a drama scriptwriter, created a filthy rich author [note: in this case, Han Se Joo started his “empire” from the scratch. He didn’t become rich all of sudden] with idol popularity character, who writes weekly series [novel Chicago Typewriter], just like a ‘drama writer’ does, because it is close to her reality where she has to forget sleeping and spends her time writing 120 minutes of script every week. In the reality of making our drama, where production begins and drama airs before all the scripts completed, drama writers literally write like ‘crazy’. If the speed of the script completion does not match the speed of the drama, the writer is ought to write the ‘side script’ [fragmented script].

It was three or four phones ago (a GS2 or a Moto Rizr) where I got tech-y and had "La Distancia para un Deulo" as my ring tone. It came from Bleach, when they go to Hueco Mundo. That whole arc had a Spanish theme to it, and I loved it!
This is the only comment I can leave tonight, as it's taken at least 30 minutes to type this, which included a restart of my miserable current phone as well as deleting my browser history. This is painfully slow, which makes me want test my phone's flight potential.
Beyond that, Happy Friday!

Happy Friday beanies!!! commenting for the first time after the outlook is changed!!!
"how can you guys do this to me"??????
Already i'm an addict to the Korean and Japanese dramas!!!
I can't even stop watching the dramas airing in those languages!!!!
Waiting for the drama to air and the suspence is already making me die of curiosity
As if like nailing the coffin of mine i'm now starting to get addicted to the chinese dramas!!!
And i happily blame that to the posts which were posted by @somegirl!!!
While i was browsing i saw the topic of "[Winners] Goblin Ring Giveaway: 5 memes to rule them all"
while i was browsing the memes in the general commenting page i was laughing so much like a crackpot without stopping!!!
Then i saw the posts of SOMEGIRL with the characters of the drama love O2O!!!
Those pics made me so curious and I started to schim through her posts!!!
The problem is i couldn't find the name of the drama!!! When i tried to search through the internet i couldn't pinpont the name of the drama!!!
At last i searched it through the image search of the google!!!
SOMEGIRL thank you so much for posting those pics!!! And after finding the name of the drama and watching the first episode i couldn't stop watching it!!!
I usually don't watch dramas which were more than 25 episoded!!! but after watching the first episode i couldn't stop my self and thus began the Love O2O marathon!!!
I enjoyed the drama very very much!!! It gave me the feeling of the softness of the love!!!!
So plzz guys recommend me some other dramas which have a cute, loveable plotbunny!!! like Love O2O!!!
Plzz i want to watch more of these!!! and i so very much love that drama!!!

OT week lucky #13! I hope everyone is doing well. I am enjoying the new site immensely! You Beanies are so fun and creative, and I’m enjoying your wall posts! I’ve become quite adept at meme-making and really need to learn to do GIFs next! However, it will have to wait a week, because, *drumroll, please*, I’m having the second Free the Kimchi meeting tomorrow! Our little eclectic group is so excited to meet again, bringing a couple new friends, and falling in love with Gong Yoo all over again. And I’m beyond the moon that Goblin and Gong Yoo did well at the Baeksang’s. Also, excited that Seo Hyun Jin was top actress! I started watching Korean dramas with much more excitement after a friend recommended watching her in RDTK. Now, I need to see Another Oh Hae Young.
I did watch Queen In Hyun’s man in its entirety this week and I loved it! They wove the timelines together so well and the OTP was too much to handle. I really liked how Yoo In Na portrayed the struggling actress. She was winsome, adorable, and embodied the role so well. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen Ji Hyun Woo in anything and was sold on him too. The chemistry between them was palpable. *Spoilers ahead* I did think the ending was a bit too contrived with her cell phone call getting through 300 years, without electricity (how did it stay charged?). At least she could have used her amnesiac year to go to the temple and pray every day or had a modern Buddhist monk make her a talisman, or ANYTHING else. I wanted her to remember loving him, and wanting the best for him, like his slave-girl/consort, whom I felt had more love for him than she did. I also felt that him trying to commit suicide was unlike his character and surprised me at the end as well. Endings to kdramas are NEVER how I would like. Does anyone have any recommendations on a drama with a great ENDING?
So a sweet story today which happened a couple weeks ago…
I was having a rough week—busy, couldn’t keep up, maybe running about an hour behind schedule every day, which is never like me.
Husband calls the office: *Cell phone rings*
Me: Hello?
Husband: Hi, are you busy?
Me: Too busy, I’m double booked three timeslots in a row, someone had a reaction in shot clinic, and I’m an hour behind. I’ll call you back at lunch--if I get one.
Husband: Okay, talk later.
*Later, at lunchtime…*
Secretary: There’s something in your office on your desk.
Me: Like a Mt. Everest amount of paperwork??? *Laughing…*
Secretary: Just go to your office.
Me: *walking fast to office, because, really, I can do the paperwork later, there are actual human bodies that I need to see now*
*Rounds corner, sees flowers on table, knowing exactly who they are from…Opens card… “From your [husband's nationality] Gong Yoo”…Laughing again…Heart melts*
Me at lunch: *Calling husband*
Husband: Hello---Did you get the flowers?
Me: Of course, and I showed everyone the card. *Because...

You know, I never found Bong Do trying to kill himself to be out of character. He'd been flirting with suicide tbe whole show. Every time he went to the fiture after the first time he did it by killing himself. Which I know, is not same thing as really being suicidal. But it didn't seem like a stretch to me that he might go for it for reals.
Maybe I am misremembering. May have to rewatch. Woe is me.?

I'm actually one of the few people who loved everything about the ending of Queen In-Hyun's Man. I've thought about it a lot, and I think it must be because I am a lot older, and grew up, went to college, and entered the workforce all in the age before cellphones were available. So I think I am more sensitive to their use, they are still an accessory and not part of the 'fiber of my being,' lol. And in the show, cellphone use is constantly shown as a lifeline - calls are sent for help, to re-establish a connection, to maintain a connection. I think the show tried very hard to prove that cellphones are modern-day talismans, but I am the only one who is buying that theory, I guess.

Moral of the Story: On days like this, I feel like I’m living a kdrama.

@beantown I'm in love with this show. :) It's not terribly smart as in "Oh my god, that twist is genius!" but I think they get around that by showing us the criminals early on. The thrill is not in trying to guess the twists but in just waiting for what clues Seol-ok will see.
Plus, I just love the dynamic between everyone. The mother-in-law isn't 100% hate-able. The husband is shady but I feel like he actually loves Seol-ok(?) The puppy Chief Hong is a bit dumb but he's there to provide the EQ for the team, since Ha Wan-seung or Seol-ok *definitely* do not provide it. (I'm also thrilled that the lady is the genius this time! That makes it, what, 3rd or 4th kdrama this year where the lady is the genius/strong one?) Her best-friend is the bestest friend ever. Even the celebrity inspector is an intriguing character!
Seol-ok is the cutest geniusest ajumma ever. And Ha Wan-seung is such a grumpy bear but we all know he'll bow down to her infinitely superior intellect later on. MWAHAHAHA
I have so many things I like about this show but I can't describe my feels. I just ♥ ♥ ♥

Happy Friday Beanies!
Since I seem to have more time "thanks" to the preemption of Chicago Typewriter (must look at glass half full!) I need advice and help again-
Im (still) planning my South Korea trip, thanks to all the Beanies that suggested stuff last time!
I will be going for 12 days in Oct and I am trying to figure out accommodation-
Any recommendations on where to stay?
Looking for somewhere convenient (near train/buses) and family friendly (I have a kid). Preferably not too horribly expensive too ;)
Also, other than staying the whole trip in Seoul, do you all suggest going out to areas like Busan/Jeju/Geongju/Jeonju?
We are open to a staying a couple of days here and there…
for some reason some people have said 12 days is too long, but the list of things to do seems endless!
Have definitely decided to go to:
In Seoul: Myeongdong, N Seoul Tower, Changdeokgung, maybe Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon Hanok Village, Hongdae, Dongdaemun, Gwanghawmun Square
Outside Seoul: Garden of the morning calm (Because I’m a huge MDBC fan if you didn’t already know)
Thanks again for your suggestions and I will probably get round to finally compiling all the stuff at some point. I hope. I think I need to stop promising things, just so that I won’t end up breaking them all the time XD

12 Days in Korea sounds not long enough, but then I'd easily spend a month there and probably not see everything. Countries are like that.
I'm going to Korea soon too, but only for 4 nights, and only Seoul, as a taste tester I call it. 12 days sounds awesome in comparison.
I haven't been before obviously, but I know Busan and Jeju are on my list, despite the latter being an extremely popular tourist destination (Seoul-Jeju is the busiest airline route in the world, and the Chinese can travel to Jeju visa free for 30 days... so... lots of people and probably expensive)
There are lots of cool wee places on the South West coast that look really interesting to me, but I'm not sure what accommodation is like and I'm bad on the names so that probably doesn't really help...

Yeah I'm concerned that Jeju will be too touristy. Also, a bit spoilt after having gone to NZ- all the scenery so far has paled in comparison. I rather spend time in Seoul and areas around it than travel to Jeju and feel like I walked into a tourist trap. But I'm seeking opinions of those who may have gone to see if I'm mistaken.

I still want to go to Korea though...
Yeah fair enough, I mean I live in a tourist trap *shoot me now*, and I've always found that I enjoy a country better if I see something off the tourist route, but definitely get someone who's actually gone!

South Island! We spent 2 weeks there. Climbed Queenstown Hill (I nearly died, my marathon running husband carrying my 14 kg kid was fine LOL) and the view at the top was stunning. Mount Cook was glorious too! Took a helicopter ride to walk on the glacier. Preferred Doubtful over Milford Sound as we took a bus ride in with a really funny and informative guide and enjoyed it more. Blue pools was also beautiful. Cant remember all the details but I maxed out my camera memory disc because i was taking shot after shot everywhere because everything was so picture perfect! Oh and we got into a traffic jam because a whole bunch of sheep needed to use the road. was the most hilarious thing.
Basically we had a blast. XD

I can relate to the tourist trap issue: I've lived in the Orlando, FL area since 1986! The bad part? I still get lost downtown, all six blocks of it. *Sigh* ?

I think you guys might need to watch the beginning of an old drama named The Snow Queen in which NZ was used to stand in for Lapland. Hyun Bin is taken up a mountain by a sled team and then goes off alone and . . . It's gorgeous. He's gorgeous. I loved the whole drama but only bits flash back to the NZ parts.

May 7, 2017 at 12:40 PM
haaa NZ for Lapland, when the latter barely has any actual mountains... depends on where you go, but it doesnt have too many higher spots. I must try take a look, that sounds very odd. I would love to travel as far as NZ but when I nearly die on short flights what happens on a long one? I would be better off taking a ship where I can walk around...

Well... you can walk around the plane? You can't go very far cos it's a plane, but you can walk around it if you're restless. That's what I did on my first big longhaul. Or take sleeping pills to knock yourself out for most of it.

Oh oh oh!!! So I live in Queenstown! Or actually, Arrowtown, but I work in Qtown.
I also agree Doubtful is better than Milford. Doubtful is more wild and isolated and feels like true Fjordland, and Milford is just over commercialized now :/ Although, flying into Milford is stunning, and better than the cruise imo! haha
Sheep on the road hahaha typical NZ... the most typical NZ that could've happened to you actually.
Sounds like you had a great time and saw all the good spots haha. South Island is always better than North (totally not bias at all ;) )

I understand the Chinese tourist traffic to Korea and Jeju are way down due to the THAAD protests, so if that's still in place the crowds and prices may be less than they've been. Tourism is hurting, big time. I've also read that there's a lovely area of Jeju that's in the northeast part of the island (the most touristy part is kind of the south central coast) that's very "green" and there's a tea plantation and forests owned by maybe O'Sulloc? It's a big brand. I'm not home so I can't look it up but I will for later.

NZ as a stand in for Lapland? But Lapland is mostly flat... and NZ is not hahaha
But I will probably never get tired of seeing NZ on screen tbh.

Thanks, sicarious. I still don't understand how notifications and the whole new site works (having hit IRL crisis mode at the same time as the site change) so I just checked back the old way. I hope to catch up one day but ??
So, that's funny that Lapland is mostly flat! The show was based on the fairy tale in which I guess the Snow Queen lives in the frozen mountains of Lapland, or at least a character in the drama has a storybook in which she does. So the mountains of NZ stood in because it was too expensive for the production to go to Scandinavia (and maybe NZ helped out a bit, there was some filming in Christchurch as well). The drama ost is a really good one and although the show wasn't a big hit, it was with me ?.

Oh man, my sister and I went for two weeks last October and felt it wasn't enough! We're actually going end of Oct this year too :)
My friend used to live in Busan (now she's in Seoul)) and always gushes about how nice it is. If you're going in the middle of Oct., I believe the Busan Film Festival will be going on and apparently it's fantastic. (FYI at the beginning of the month is chuseok so some places might be closed down for 2-3 days.)
Are you planning on going to the DMZ at all? It's very impactful and quite surreal. I highly recommend if you're a kpop fan to try to go see a daily taping—we went to an Mnet countdown and it was so neat. Also SMTown at COEX is freaking amazing.
I have tons of food recs too if you need them :)

Last year, I was staying in an apartment (Airbnb) in Hongdae which was amazing because the building was above the subway station. The escalator to go to the subway was just a few steps from the building's main door. Convenience store, cafes, Innisfree store, etc were nearby. Hongdae street was just a walking distant.

Jeju would be wonderful! You can take the kids to the orange farms and pick oranges! And the museum areas will be fun! Although you can also find the museums in Seoul..
I went during Chuseok two years ago, so it wasnt that crowded. And i suppose theres considerably less tourists these days, due to the political issues, so i guess its worth considering!
Do try the black pork bbq, abalone porridge, and the fish! There was this restaurant that I went, its called 춘심이네. Their specialty is this super long fish bbq (probably ribbon fish), which theyll cut at your table. Im sure the kids would love to watch it! ^^

Since we're talking about anime, can I piggyback your post and recommend Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor (Roku de Nashi Majutsu Kōshi to Akashikku Rekōdo)? This was definitely a case of don't judge a book by its cover. If you don't like ep1--and most people didn't--at least watch ep2 and judge from there.
It seems I should do the same for Tsukigakirei as I didn't get past ep1. Will watch again and see.

It's interesting though because before I learned Japanese, I liked fantasy animes but now that I speak the language and live in Japan, I switched to slice of life. If you like those, or low key animes like Natsume Yuujinchou then you should definitely tryep2. And wait until the end of the ending song, there are extra clips that are funny

Hi Beanies !
Finally... end of exams ! End of semester ! Now I hope I passed them or else I won't be able to study in Germany. I'm going to catch up Chicago Typewriter and Man to Man. Yoo Ah In and Park Hae Jin as reward sounds good.
I finally watched Queen of the Rings and I have SLS T_T He is the only who didn't throw me off. I mean every one was awful : the girl with insecurities uses magic to change appearance and to seduce a hot guy, hot guy only purchases pretty girls and excuses nearly every thing his ideal type does just because she is pretty, pretty girl wants a man to protect her and doesn't care about his feelings and the other college students who make insensitive comments. Was the drama a critic of society being obsessed with beauty and ending with “even if you are ugly you can find a handsome guy too” ? The characters had background explaining they were not bad people but the execution was bad and the show message was not well send in my opinion.
Happy Friday :D

Ah Queen of the Ring.. That drama kinda left a bad tast in my mouth. Even if they tried to redeem themselves in the story it just didn't cover the initial message they seemed to give. Same with that other body swap drama... what was it's name again... anyway two sisters swap body and they ALMOST managed to teach something. But then kinda fell short.

I think the body switch web drama is The Miracle. Yeah, it's pretty much the same as Queen of the Rings but I manage to finish QotR (mostly because of Kim Seul Gi) and I dropped The Miracle. Let us say the reason I dropped it is to avoid the disappointment & frustrations I get after QotR because the pacing of the story tells me that they're also going there. These kind of show has an inspiring story to tell but felt short in executing and delivering the message to the viewers explicitly.
