Forever searching for you in new poster and stills for Bride of the Water God 2017

In comparison to the bubbly romantic teasers we’ve had from Bride of the Water God 2017, this poster is a little darker-lit and more melancholic-feeling, featuring Nam Joo-hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju) and Shin Se-kyung (Six Flying Dragons). This tvN drama about the god of water, Ha-baek, played by Nam Joo-hyuk, and his sensible earthly servant, So-ah, played by Shin Se-kyung, is kicking off in less than two weeks!

Nam Joo-hyuk is the water god who descends to earth, which is already inhabited by two of his buddy-acquaintance deities played by Krystal (She’s So Lovable) and Gong Myung (Drinking Solo). Krystal harbors a one-sided infatuation with Ha-baek, while Gong Myung has a crush on her so there’s a bit of a rivalry element there. But Ha-baek’s affections will be directed toward bride So-ah, and the poster’s copy reads: “I’ve been looking for you for ages. My god, my servant.”

So-ah is a female doctor from a family that has served the water god for generations, but she doesn’t believe in any of it until he really shows up at her doorstep. But even after he’s spent all that time searching for her, there are love triangle difficulties ahead because she also becomes involved with another mortal man, played by Im Joo-hwan (Oh My Ghostess). His character is a self-made entrepreneur who is the descendant of a god.

He and So-ah will be bickering enemies at first; it’s a relationship filled with misunderstandings and distrust that slowly turns into curiosity and potential romantic interest. Two more still cuts of Shin Se-kyung and Im Joo-hwan have been released of each looking intensely at the other with dissatisfaction and and tension. I find this an interesting departure from the familiar setup where the secondary lead is mostly helpful and nice to the heroine (and later gets friend-zoned).

Well, here’s to hoping there won’t be too much pain in the water god’s future! Manhwa-spinoff fantasy rom-com Bride of the Water God 2017 will begin airing on July 3 as a Monday-Tuesday drama.

I am already getting SLS? Or do I like IJH that much?

I think my mutant drama would be, where a SL comes out of his shell and becomes a first lead :D.
And yes, I can already see the chemistry between SHK and IJH in the photos :S.

Park Shi-hoo used to bring that response in people before his fall from grace. That happened not just in one, but two dramas of his, where his second lead was upgraded..!

I like the darker themed poster this time around and the intense gazes with SSK and IJH. Saying that, I also loved the funny, bubbly moments too (especially that clip with NJH and the water bidet). I hope this show exceeds my expectations.

Im courious, but the story doesn't sound like the Manwha at all. I mean what about Haebeks child form and all the rest. As a fan of the Manwha I'm really sceptical already, which is too bad.

This is more a spin off from the manwha than an actual adaption. I know it's sad, because the original manwha was so rich and beautiful.

I hope this drama will be as good as I hope it will be! If they can make NJH's character to be as lovable as Joon Hyung in WFKBJ, I'll be really happy cos it suits him ♥ I know he hasn't had good reviews with his acting in previous dramas so I'm hoping he can pull this off.

Cos one thing I noticed about NJH in WF was that there were times (just a very few moments) where it seemed to me that he seemed to look at someone/the staff behind the camera, like someone stood up and caught his eye while he was delivering his lines or something cos his eyes kinda lose focus for a moment... it kinda lessened the emotional impact he was supposed to be conveying

Oh man, ngl, I'm a TOTAL sucker for cheesy romantic fluff like this. Might actually check out the first ep in hopes to find an epic story about deities and humans and an equally epic romance. I'll pass on the love triangles, but this sounds interesting enough for me to at least give it a shot.

Yeah, he was. But that was a daily of 133 episodes (the only daily I have ever watched), so obviously it has not the same kind of prestige (or pay) and four years ago.

What he deserve is headlining a prime-time weekly drama by a top writer (someone like No Hee-Kyung, who will write him a role that will make the most of his talent), because his acting quality is more than good enough for that. Sadly, him, Lim Ju-Eun, Kim Jae-wook and probably a few more get stuck in supporting roles, often in half-baked dramas, though shining more brightly there than most of the leads of the shows they are cast in.

everyone seems to be praising the poster and i might get some dislike for saying this...but individually, they look hot but i am not feeling any chemistry in the poster..it feels so bland...i feel the same way about the teasers too..they all look beautiful but still no chemistry..nam joo hyuk's supposed enchanted gaze towards shin se kyung doesnt feel genuine....i like how they look by themselves but not so much together.

Tbh she looks really uncomfortable, like her neck muscles seem all tense from having to hold up her head like that lol. Let's hope that's a part of the lacking chemistry on the poster or that it's on purpose? It does seem like she's looking past him, which would be weird if it wasn't deliberate?

3

Required fields are marked *

Same. I'm actually feeling more tension from the way IJH is looking at SSK.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

It's that posture dude. It looks like a ballroom dip gone wrong. Like NJH's back got caught at the very last second and now SSK is stuck and can't get back up. Like, the feel they seem to be going for is romantic, but it does not feel romantic per se.

If there's one thing I'm absolutely certain of, it's that this drama will be very pretty. The rest feels a bit of a 50-50 situation right now, but I'm still looking forward to it a lot, since a) TvN! and b) Gong Myung <3 Two things that are always sure to make me watch a drama :P

I'm surprised at the dark hues of these, I was under the impression that this would be a lighter fare, but maybe not?

To me this is a hint that we can expect some intense romance too. It looks baroque and romantic. If that is the case, I'm all in for this :D
Nevertheless, after the promotion fiasco that was Chicago Typewriter (any similarities between teasers and drama were just coincidence), not sure we are getting a good indication of what will be the series...

Won't know what the overall tone of the drama will be until I see it, but, man, is it pretty. At least that has been consistent from the last batch of promo material to this set.

I suppose that's consistent with the manhwa too. So much pretty.

The production team is so inconsistent.

They started with cherry blossoms theme, followed by romeo and juliet theme, indian ancient theme, green field, toilet comedy scene and then this dark poster giving some twilight/horror feels.

It's a mess. They are overdoing and overhyping it since they know that they may experience low ratings.

Looks like i'll be expecting commenters here in the future to be disappointed at the end.

Slowly but surely these teasers are amping up my interest in the show. I read the manhwa and had a cursory/maybe interest in watching the drama (if I had time). The fact it was a spin off to modern settings was helping. I'm becoming more curious though and intrigued.

Though I've found “I’ve been looking for you for ages. My god, my servant” very cheesy.. strange enough but I kinda like the stills revealed of this show. Somehow I feel that their seemingly no chemistry makes me think of the chemistry between divine beings. Because this involves a lot of gods and goddesses, I am looking for something a little bit unnatural about them and around them. I think that might be the reason why the casting team chose these actors/actresses.. the way they look a bit awkward makes they seem more immortal than the rest of the cast.

Forget about the first poster, because the two stills of Shin Se Kyung & Im Joo Hwan look better. They should've paired these two as the leads in different drama.

My reason for watching this K-drama is entirely due to it having Beautiful Krystal Jung as a member of the cast. She's been my favorite actress since 2011. Love everything that she dies. <3
