Jung Yumi offered writer Noh Hee-kyung’s new drama Live

Star writer Noh Hee-kyung, of thoughtful human dramas Dear My Friends, It’s Okay It’s Love, Padam Padam and more, has announced that the synopsis is out for her next drama, titled Live (as in the verb, live or die), and a casting offer is out to Jung Yumi (Discovery of Romance) to headline. The new series will be about police officers, though coming from Noh Hee-kyung, I don’t expect the usual cop thriller or procedural.

The drama is about “grass-roots democracy,” portrayed through the lives of police officers who are considered “the people’s walking stick” or “the judge of the streets.” As with most Noh Hee-kyung dramas, it’ll be about people and relationships rather than the typical police genre story, and it’s said to be a celebration of police officers as civil servants who keep the peace. The drama will portray the cops as someone’s father, or sibling, or child, with a particular focus on portraying hardworking fathers.

Jung Yumi has been offered the role of a police officer, and no other details have been revealed yet about her character. All we know for now is that the cast will include middle-aged men and a crop of younger officers. I’m just happy that Jung Yumi might come back to dramaland, because I love her easygoing, natural acting style.

Live will be another collaboration with director Kim Kyu-tae (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), with whom Noh Hee-kyung has already made four dramas: It’s Okay It’s Love, That Winter The Wind Blows, Padam Padam, and The World They Live In. I can’t say that I’m excited for the reunion, given that the director’s work is a mixed bag, and he is the reason why Moon Lovers was such a mess. But Noh Hee-kyung and Kim Kyu-tae have a successful track record and a working relationship that’s going on ten years now, and his dramas with this writer do have a very distinct feel to them, not to mention that they are critically well-received.

While the police setting is something of a departure from the writer’s previous works, Live sounds like it could be similar to the multi-generational stories in her award-winning drama Dear My Friends, which was about the intertwining lives of parents and children. Here I expect veteran cops to mentor the rookies, like You’re All Surrounded, but with way less comedy and way more gut-wrenching emotion.

Live doesn’t have a broadcaster or time slot yet, but production is slated to begin late this year for a spring 2018 premiere.

Love Jung Yumi. Last time I saw her was her short but meaningful appearance in This Week My Wife Will Have an Affair. Wouldn't mind to have her reunited with Lee Sun Kyun in a drama again.

The Noh Hee Kyung is back to bless kdramaland with her greatness.

Also, watching Mystery Queen made me want a cop show without the thriller stuff. And then this! Though its NHK so tbh I'd watch it regardless of the plot :)

Also excited for Jung Yumi!

It'll be great to see a drama about police that (hopefully) doesn't villainize a bunch of them. Based on the K-Dramas I've watched you'd think 80% of the policeforce is corrupt

and Yoo Ah In is one of those noona killers in kdrama. So yes for this. Honestly I've a thought it will be great to see YAI with her in this drama, but this guy is still not settling about his military service issue. If I'm right, YAI was also cameo in Discovery of Romance, right?

Kang Ha Neul once said his idol is Jung Yumi. But Ha Neul probably will do Bad Guys season 2,if not maybe this pairing is possible? ?

And, Yesss! Jung Yumi and YAI and off course if Kang Haneul join them in dramaland, it won't hurt anyone, right? LMAO

Please take it. I trust writer Noh (Padam Padam and Dear My Friends are gems) and Yumi is my queen and acting chameleon I need back on a weekly basis (and hour or 2 in movies simply isn't enough). Please please take it.

The directing of Kim Kyu-tae always a mess. Even in It's Okay It's Love, That Winter, The Wind Blows, and Moon Lovers, I stills feel frustrating with all zoom scenes. I dropped That Winter, The Wind Blows because it. I can't focus on drama content. Also, zoom scenes not suit for subtiles, I can feel actors confusing when camera zoom in.

"Kim Kyu-tae always a mess"???! If you don't like his style it doesn't mean he is a mess. He has a very unique style, breathtaking cinematography and beautiful framing scene that will stay in you min for many many years. The problem with Moon Lover was mainly because of the brutal episode cut...The drama has too many characters and a story that supposed to cover a long portion of history but only 20 episode. Nevertheless as hot mess as it was, it is still one of the most memorable sageuk with lots of unforgettable gorgeous scenes and with powerful acting performance from LJG and KHN, etc. In addition KKT is famous for transforming unfamous young actors/actress to superstar...

I told myself that I will never watch another Kim Kyu-tae drama but for Noh and Yumi I'll have to watch this.

I love her earlier work the most. "More beautiful than a Flower" and "Goodbye Solo." I'm a fan for life so I'll watch anything from Noh.

I love Yumi but to be honest, I cant imagine her in a police officer character.

I was excited when she was 1st offered the female lead of Missing 9, even decided to watch it for her and Jung Kyungho when I didn't like the plot but end up she wasn't casted. Good thing I guess, since I really dislike that genre.

I will prefer if she's offered other scripts too and pick the best one. Hehe. Been waiting for her comeback so I really hope it's a good one. ?

Man What Noh hee Kyung in the past life has been done to deserve collaborate with Kim Kyu Tae 4 times? I though they collaboration has ended? But man.. Jung Yumi with Noh hee Kyung? that's my dream come true. It's like if Song Jong Ki finally starring in a Park Yeon Seon or Noh Hee Kyung drama. My life is completed LOL.

Yes, Song Joong-ki, Park Yeonseon or Noh Hee-kyun and An Pan-seok as director.

For an epic sageuk, Jung Hyun-min (writer) and I'm pretty sure Park Kyung-soo can write a sageuk if he wants to.
Kang Byung-taek (director) with epic battles like he did in Jeong Do-jeon.

If I remember correctly, Director Kim Kyu-tae is the director who is overly fond of the extreme facial close-up. While the technique, with the right touch, can be useful, overdoing it doesn't always work. But then, also, directing is only part of what makes up a successful drama.

On a different note, it'll be nice to see Jung Yumi again. I don't see her too often it seems.

As much as I love Noh Hee-kyung, I cannot stand this actress. Kim Kyu-tae's directing is pleasing to the eyes, when he's not shoving the camera up the actors' noses or doing weird close-up shots.
