Yang Se-jong up to romance Seo Hyun-jin in Temperature of Love

Aw, will the second lead get the girl this time? You know I love it when that happens. There’s a potential drama reunion in the works for Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim alums Seo Hyun-jin and Yang Se-jong, who are both considering the leading roles in the new SBS romantic-comedy drama Temperature of Love, along with Kim Jae-wook (Voice), who has signed on for a supporting role.

Romantic Doctor was Yang Se-jong’s acting debut less than a year ago(!), in which he played Yoo Yeon-seok’s uppity rival surgeon who harbored an unrequited love for Seo Hyun-jin. He seemed like a puppy in that drama, but after that and Saimdang, Light’s Diary, he’s since gone on to steal the show as a set of clones in OCN’s sci-fi thriller Duel. He’s so good at playing three different characters in that drama that I actually found myself thinking about a week ago, Oh the evil clone is the better actor… waitaminute…

Temperature of Love is the newest drama from writer Ha Myung-hee of Doctors, High Society, and Warm Words, and it’s an adaptation of her own novel titled Nice Soup Does Not Answer the Phone. The rom-com is about an online friendship that sparks between an aspiring screenwriter and a chef with the handle “Nice Soup.” Seo Hyun-jin has been offered the role of a drama writer who would describe herself as frank and reckless. She’s a practical realist who can’t really lie, and she makes snap judgments and throws herself headlong into things. She’s intelligent and a little odd, and her nickname is “Curiosity Heaven.”

Yang Se-jong is up for the male lead, a chef-owner of a Michelin-star restaurant called Good Soup. He seeks out good-natured people, but he’s very clear about his boundaries, and he hates being controlled by other people or managing others. He’s a competitive person who loves to win and enjoys sports, and though he seems perfect on the outside, his Achilles heel is his mother, who’s left him scarred.

Kim Jae-wook has been cast to play an entertainment agency CEO who likes Yang Se-jong’s cooking and becomes partners with him to open Good Soup. But he’ll also fall for the heroine, and they’ll eventually go from business partners to romantic rivals. Kim Jae-wook is also coming off of a recent OCN thriller (Voice) in which he played a frightening psychopath, so right now I can only think of the potential rivalry between Yang Se-jong’s evil clone and Kim Jae-wook’s evil killer, which would be totally badass but very disturbing in a romantic comedy.

The drama is about people with scars who are adrift, discovering the love inside themselves and love for other people. The four leading characters will bump up against one another’s worldviews and try to convince each other that their way of life is best, and grow along the way. I like the sound of it, but what I like even more is the sound of Seo Hyun-jin back in dramaland as a rom-com heroine, and Yang Se-jong getting a chance to win her heart.

Temperature of Love is slated for a September premiere in the Monday-Tuesday slot following Falsify.

I know I'll be busy in September but I'll try to find some time to watch Seo Hyun-jin.

Sounds like a fantastic cast all around and I love Yang Se Jong... but give Kim Jae Wook a lead role god dammit! The guy's amazing. I guess I should just be happy he's come out of his hibernation though.

I have high expectations for this regardless. I hope the writing will be on par with the cast.

My thoughts exactly on Kim Jae Wook. Why are these veteran actors being sidelined? He was awesome in Voice!

Seo Hyun-jin and Yang Se-jong, looks like an eye candy duo! But both are talented too, esp. Seo Hyun-jin, the woman of a thousand faces.

I do like Yang Se-jong alot (he is one of those rising actors who actually has alot of potential) but I really wish Kim Jae Wook was the male lead ? It's so long overdue.

I don't really like this writer (and the plot doesn't sound particularly interesting) but I can't say no to this cast. Seo Hyun-jin nails everything she is in. I hope they give KJW a love line of his own - this writer often does secondary love lines so I hope we get that here.

Sounds a little like her character in Oh Hae-young Again! ? Definitely excited to see Seo Hyun-Jin back in dramaland to play another feisty, quirky character ? And "Curiosity Heaven"! Someone should totally use that as their username here on Dramabeans ??

Yes please ? I've missed having a healing drama! Something like It's Okay, That's Love...

I am loving him in Duel, he really is doing an incredible job acting three different characters, I've never been confused who is who when watching it :) Also Seo Hyun-Jin is amazing, definitely looking forward to this.
"right now I can only think of the potential rivalry between Yang Se-jong’s evil clone and Kim Jae-wook’s evil killer, which would be totally badass but very disturbing in a romantic comedy." This made me laugh and then think of the things I've watched without realising what I was getting myself into - disturbing is the right word here ?

Thank you for the article Girl Friday... I actually found myself doing the same thing while watching Duel, and telling myself the evil clone is a better actor... haha...
And Kim Jae-Wook offered a supporting role... The drama sounds wonderful, and I love the potential cast members - all of them. Just not sure of this writer. I liked Warm Word from a Warm Heart. I disliked High Society; I liked Doctors quite a bit, until it began to drag. It would have been a far better drama (IMO), if it were 16-18 episodes longs.
Now, I am almost scared when I hear she is coming up with a new drama., especially since I love the cast members (if they confirm)

I actually really liked Doctors when I was watching it until it reached the end and i realised "this drama has no plot at all". And I watched High Society quite recently for Park Hyung Sik but didnt really like it either.
I have mixed feelings about the writer. I think she just cant write a drama with plot but other than that, she's fine.

I haven't seen DOCTORS or HIGH SOCIETY, but suspect that in the absence of discernable plots, both series were character studies, or were written as kishotenketsu.

Yang Se-jong was very good in RDTK. I recall in the recap discussions that some viewers were of the opinion that his acting was not so hot, while others insisted that the character was written as perfectionistic and inexpressive, and that he was doing just fine. When he finally thawed out a bit towards Dr. Yoon, and then later allowed himself the most fleeting of micro-smiles after the team successfully performed a difficult transplant operation against a daunting deadline, massive rejoicing erupted in the thread. ;-)

YSJ's characters in SAIMDANG were 180 degrees removed from Dr. Do In-bum. I would love to see him in a full-blown sageuk after his turn as young Lee Gyeom.

Happy for Yang Sejong, sad for Kim Jae Wook ? I thought his new project will be a lead role. Now I wonder if it's the casting directors not choosing him for the projects or he doesn't want to commit.. ?

Maybe he is the one that doesn't want to take lead roles? I know that Kang Ha Nuel said in the past that he doesn't want to be a lead anytime soon, which I am sad about especially now that he is going to the military :(. Hopefully KJW gets a lead after this drama. I only saw him in "Voice" but from what I watched he is a great actor he really sold the role of a serial killer.

Same with you, I think it is his decision not to take lead role behind why he's still in second/supporting role dungeon.

Though Seo Hyun-jin and Yang Se-jong's casting are not confirmed yet, meanwhile, I am going to entertain myself with thoughts of them in Temperature of Love together.
Reading Yang Se-jong's character description, it feels like he would be a total tsundere in front of Seo Hyun-jin while he is such a sweetie to her in the Internet forums hehe.

Yang Se Jong is going places! I can't believe that Romantic Doctor was his acting debut. When I looked him up, there was just that one line in his wiki and wherever. If someone told me he was a child actor, I'd have believed. He's only 24 but it's not just his acting which I am excited about, it's his versatility.

I love Seo Hyun Jin and Kim Jae Wook. If all three confirms, this is a must watch. The only thing I am wary of is the writing. I couldn't stand the romance in Doctors and I don't think there's anything else I missed in that show. Would adapting her own novel means better result?

His first drama is actually Saimdang, Light's Diary since it's a pre-produced drama, and he's really good in that drama considering it's actually his first time. But RDTK aired first, so people know him from RDTK.

It's mostly the Seo Hyun-jin praise that got the downvotes, so I guess she has an anti-fan here(?) An obsessed soon-to-be-villain-in-her-own-drama antifan?

Anyway, I'm not a big fan of downvoting and I wouldn't be heartbroken if that feature disappeared and people who wanted to disagree would have to take the trouble to actually type something and say WHY they disagree.
So, downvote downvoting (?)

Well said, Lord C!

I say ditch the thumbs-down button. That way fumble-fingered me won't keep hitting it by accident. I think I've only ever purposely downvoted once -- and that was in response to nasty incivility directed at another commenter. DramaBeans is my safe haven for discussing Kdramas. Sometimes one has to read the riot act to trolls, although my usual response is to ignore them.

One of the things I most appreciate about reading comments here is seeing a character or plot development from multiple points of view, some of which I may never have considered before. It's all too easy to downvote without stating, clarifying, or substantiating one's position.

Here's to continued amicable discourse with a high signal-to-noise ratio. ;-)

@lordcobol Haha I'm all up for removing the downvote option. It doesn't serve any purpose, except now whenever there is a downvote on a super nice, extremely polite comment, I have this thought that someone like those psycho killers in kdramas [ for example do bong soon], is having a laugh at us by using the downvote button. Which I hope isn't the case. At one point I was upset with getting downvotes too, but now I have given up, or more like settled. I just thought DB is a place where everyone lives peacefully and happily ever after :S.

Its great that dramaland is giving Yang Se Jong another chance to win Seo Hyun Jin's heart! I love reunions! No one has mentioned about the noona romance? I thought Yang Se Jong looked too young in Romantic Doctor to be chasing Seo Hyun Jin but this drama could portray him differently.

I've watched Doctors and High Society and my opinion about this writer is that her dramas are watchable (I really enjoyed Doctors) but only realised at the end that they dont have plots.

Thanks for this terrific casting news, girlfriday! It's enough to make me check into the Doldam Hospital emergency room because of palpitations.

I've been wondering when Seo Hyun-jin would return to TV, and am tickled to pieces that she'll (hopefully) play opposite both these charismatic dudes. She was phenomenal in THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK HYANG, and had terrific chemistry with every other character in the show, not just the male leads. Some of her most touching scenes were with Kim Young-jae (monarch of a rival kingdom), Im Se-mi as the young Queen, and Yoon Tae-young (her father). She was not afraid to mess up her image, either. Given the romantic pyrotechnics between her and Eric in OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN, I fully expect her and her co-stars in the upcoming production to set off the fire alarms.

I was mightily impressed with Yang Se-jong's performance in dual roles in SAIMDANG, LIGHT'S DIARY, and am certain that he can pull off a dandy rom-com turn with my favorite actress. After seeing him as the tsundere surgeon Do In-bum in RDTK, it was a blast seeing him portray the hopelessly romantic young royal Lee Gyeom and the enthusiastic art history grad student Han Sang-Hyun. His performances in DUEL further underscore his ability to convey a wide range of nuanced emotion. This pairing will be epic -- as long as the script is up to snuff.

I can't forget Kim Jae-wook's enigmatic barista and Wafflemeister in COFFEE PRINCE (and pastry chef in ANTIQUE). I can easily see him wooing SHJ and giving Yang Se-jong a run for the money in the process. As others have said, I'd love to see him play a lead role one of these days. Maybe he prefers to play supporting roles. Whatever. As long as I get to see more of him on the small screen, I don't care. I persevered through VOICE to the bitter end, and am looking forward to overwriting the images of his serial killer persona with someone a whole lot less terrifyingly convincing.

I wonder who's being considered to play the female second lead.
