So last week I watched New journey to the west cause I wanted to see Lee Seung Gi, and he was pretty much perfect.
Which brings me to my NJtTW crush : Ahn Jae Hyun, who said "He's too perfect for our group " :P
Now in continuing to watch season 2, I fell in like with AJH. He's clumsy, sort of dumb and can be used only for walking.
But on the other hand he's a bada$$ that can openly say he adores his girlfriend/wife on public tv. He said more than once that a job is only a job, and not his life. He did not care much when they told him his fans would probably throw tomatoes at him in China. When Ji won told him to fix his voice for variety , he was like "Yeah, I get a lot of criticism about that".
In other words he's my best celebrity.

So now he joins my list of taken and very happy oppas :
Ji Sung (he and his wife are amazing), Joo Won (he accepted his relationship out of nowhere, and even BoA made a joke about it in produce 101) and Jung Kyung Ho (he's so great with his girlfriend).
Now if only Kang Dong Won would find someone, that would be great.

Honestly I don't get why there is hate when your fave gets in a relationship, like that ugly thing about Lee Jong Gi's girlfriend on the internet. So sad they broke up.

Well, moving forward with NJtTW season 3 then. Since I saw season 4 first :D

"He said more than once that a job is only a job, and not his life. "

Exactly! I get that actors need fans just like a businessman needs a client. However, they shouldn't live their life to please fans.

It's funny how I remember what Joo Won said in an interview long ago. I think it was during the time when he debut in Baker King. He said he will not live for his fans. Maybe it got stuck in my head because I found it very bold of him to make that statement especially when he was a rookie then. Now that you bring up AJH, I guess that is a choice a celebrity must make. The trade off for popularity is you get to live your life, fans be damned(for the lack of a better word).

I don't know what is the reason behind LJK and JHB's breakup. However, if the reason is because of his fans, it doesn't put either party in good light.

"Oppa sharing" -- if you look at it from a slightly different angle, isn't that a harem ??

I liked Joo Won's boldness for saying this. He's thankful to his fans but they don't have the right to interfere in his love life.

@outofthisworld neither LJG nor JHB can stop their fans from commenting on their relationship. This is the realty of celebrity life. Once their relationship went public, fans started to bombard their social network (many of them were actually IU or PMY fans)... JHB mentioned in one of her latest interviews that she is having depression after that, she close her IG public commenting for a while... most of people are not strong enough to endure nasty comments... specially JHB who barely had any strong fandom behind her... they both started new projects right after dating news so they barely had time to comfort each other... I feel so sorry for both of them, but I totally understand their decision and respect it!

Required fields are marked *

My point is I don't know the reason behind their breakup but I do think people should stop blaming the fans solely for it. It is not because I agree with those fanatics but rather what it says of them or their relationship.

If the fans bother them so much, why not send a strong message to the fans - "We are in love whether you like it or not!" Their agency should have also warn the fans and take action. Drive these fans livid and make their blood boil by posting pictures of the couple together. I think that might shut fans up.

I agree that it's best to go with the agency's official statement and leave the fans out.

I do agree, I really wanted them to be stronger and even post their pictures... probably it's not very acceptable in their culture or maybe they were not still quite sure about their relationship and that's why they denied it before dispatch publish their photos... apparently every relationship reveals by Dispatch is doom to break!!

Add Soo Young & LSY ! They are super happy and cut it loose.

I also think LSK was very bold and carefree girl as well . I saw her IG caption for NJH & it was so cutee

wait what he broke up? first he hides the news and plays a loverboy and tries to maintain single but ready to mingle image..

and now he breaks up with her.. because he thought she affected his work? She even mentioned on HT.. that LJK never wanted to accept this publically..

Any day people like AJH are better who respect their other half

Why do you assume he broke up with her? She could have said, "dude, you are so not worth this". Guess what, we'll probably never know. If she had issues with how LJG was acting on My Ear Candy or any other show, she seems like a pretty strong gal who can take care of herself.

They both seem like lovely people and I wish them both the best whether its together (because that could be as well) or with other people or alone.

Hi everyone!

Manhole 5 and 6: Does a soul in a suit count as having a job? I didn’t exactly mean for Bong Pil to be in a coma when I asked that he please stop flailing around in the sand and frantically filling and tossing barrels or water. So extreme. But Sook Tae and his father are the best body swappers unawares ever! This kdrama is outrageously exasperating enough to keep me watching.

Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast: What in the world is IU doing as the maid? I thought it was a look-alike, I really did. But Lee Ji Eun is our darling IU (songwriter, singer, and performer extraordinaire) who sleeps in the staff quarters and washes dishes. Such a mismatch with Hyori. I don’t get it. Please give that girl some more chocolate!

Night Goblin: Comedians and idols sitting on a rooftop all night after taking a taxi each to an undeveloped town and waiting for a local donut shop to open, The shop opened. They ate a donut. Yep that’s the summary. No more, no less.

My Father is Strange – 52 episodes wrap up this weekend, wah! Who would have thought that a lifetime of living a dead friend’s identity because you were framed and imprisoned for manslaughter as a young man who went on to marry and have four children who became pretty awesome adults that came to understand their parents’ lies and fraud against them and went on to root for a retrial to prove their father’s innocence, setting aside their own hurt and repercussions and working through the injustices and misunderstandings of twisted relationship conflicts that take on lives of their own, could be so endearing? Recaps at http://www.cimiart.wordpress.com

Still 90s here in total eclipse land. Have a good weekend! \/

How is the kocowa/Viki combo working out for people? Is it smooth sailing, are the subs all there?

Viki is doing their own subs so shows that are already many episodes in are slowly catching up. I don't envy the subbers for having a bunch of eps dumped on them. Honestly... I am a little taken aback they aren't just using the supposed pro subs from Kocowa but I suppose going forward it won't be as disruptive. The shows play fine thru the usual mechanisms (Roku for me).

Viki stated something along the lines of they want to use their own subs and not Kocowa's because they like the quality of their own subs better--that's why it generally takes longer for the eps. to be subbed by Viki.

If you're talking guilty pleasures, then Personal Taste probably haha. I haven't rewatched it much since it aired though. I'm kind of scared to because I don't want to know how much my opinion of it will change. I remember loooving Son Ye Jin's character. She was like my spirit animal at the time, part of it probably because of her unique job and skillset, which I don't think I've seen another female lead have since. Another reason would probably be her house. It was a really nice house.

Also that's one of the only roles I found Lee Min-ho hot in (Unpopular Opinion Alert!), the other being City Hunter. I also have a soft spot for Playful Kiss and Hani and Seungjobot.

Personal Taste was my first Kdrama :D Son Ye Jin's character impressed with how much alcohol she drank during the drama. I learned later than the drinking culture in Korea is different. Lee Minho didn't leave anything particular. He was just there playing the lead. Whereas Kim Ji Suk and Wang Ji Hye made my blood boiled and I had a hard time moving on from their horrible characters.

But has the most touching scene in a drama is when he runs to buy her pads while she's sitting on the toilets. Other high school classmates watched this part and we all agreed to marry a sweet guy who will do that for us .

Playfull Kiss was also one of my first drama. I remember raging watching it XD

"Jackpot"and "The Blade and Petal" ?

Fascinating, despite the writing going downhill towards the end. Sometimes I find great performances in less than perfect dramas.
Yeo Jin-goo, Choi Min-soo (both as King Sukjong and Yeon Gaesomun), Kim Young-cheol and Jang Keun-suk whom I've grown to love in Jackpot.

Definitely Gentleman's Dignity ? I plan to write for Rewatch's section but I rewatch it so many times already lol.

I hope KES will write anything like this again, this is masterpiece. No Kdrama has existed has the same cool vibe as Gentleman's Dignity.

Current will be : Weightlifting Kim Bok Joo but honestly after the breakup, I don't know if I can barely watch this happy footage of them again. If (pray not) they don't plan to patch any time soon, I suggest LSK & NJH throw all the Bok Joo memoirs far away for the moment, is too sweet & dreamy to be the truth!! :(

& Fight My Way
This is serious issue about human being this handsome but legally walk freely in society ! Haha. Park Seo Joon is totally sold Doo Man for me, I wish myself & every single girl will have Doo Man in their life. And Ae Ra? Ae Ra will be Ae Ra, she sets the bar for best heroine ever in kdrama history.

There is so much feel in this drama, and the very first romcom without chaebol & fancy fashion for BOTH LEAD! Applaud! Yet, without all the fancy backdrop, Dong Man & Ae Ra stand the prettiest with their integrity for themselves, their firey passion for their dream, & their abundantly love toward each other, their fantastic four, and family.

Sorry for long rant lol I just finish watched FMW, so there is so much feels about this haha.

Definitely Love Rain! I get that it's draggy and trope-y, but slow moving dramas don't bother me so long as they look pretty and have a good OST, and the OST is probably my favorite ever. Happy Friday, Beanies! I've been commenting in OT but haven't posted in a couple of weeks because I was derailed by School 2017 recaps ^^;

I'm down to just one drama now that my semester has begun. Was buddy watching Strongest Deliveryman with my mum but we stopped after the first two episodes. It was a bit early to drop it, but we were hoping more for a slice-of-life approach, and it didn't look like it was going to be that way because of the accident with Kangsoo's friend + the impending takeover of the alley by the chaebol food company. I'm still keeping tabs on the recaps, and may return to watch it alone if it's getting good reviews.

Also, something cool I wanted to share with Beanies! I'm taking Korean 5 this semester and my teacher is piloting an online resource by working with a tech company and Viki. Basically, it's a supplementary platform for us to learn vocabulary and see how it's applied through... *drumrolls*... DRAMA CLIPS. My teacher: "If you click a link, you can see the full drama. But don't get distracted!" ?

By the way, I secretly think my teacher is Wonder Woman. I first met her 3 years ago in Korean 1 when I was an undergrad. Back then, she was teaching 2 modules a semester and doing her PhD, and she has two young sons. She graduated together with me, and now she's continuing cool research by developing this Kdrama learning platform. So amazing (∩´ω`∩)

That sounds awesome! It kinda reminds me of the colab Naver dictionary has with V LIVE, so whenever you search a word you can see all the videos where it's been used. I thought it would be great if they had that for Korean dramas, cause I don't really follow any korean celebrities besides BTS on the V app. Glad someone is actually working on something like this! This kind of resources make learning Korean much more entertaining. Your teacher sounds amazing ^^

Yes, it's one thing to read sentences on paper but quite another when you see them used in actual dialogues on screen.

At beginner's levels it's not that easy to learn through dramas but I've found that now I'm starting the advanced level, watching dramas really helps me cement the grammar and vocabulary I've learned in class, and also pick up some new usages along the way (:

Thanks to beanies watching The King Loves, I am marathoning it now.

I've only watched Si Wan in Misaeng so I didn't really know what to expect for this drama. The posters didn't do him or the cast any favors because a lot of nuances are shown only when you watch. As much as I like Won-Rin and Hong Jong Hyun is making my heart ache, Si Wan is the one who's adding all the layers to his character.

My bugbear about actors is overuse of stock expressions. Having watch kdramas for years, I've collected the whole lot and can even predict what a particular actor would do next if a scene calls for shock, anger, sadness etc, if I have observed that actor long enough. I don't see it in Si Wan. It's not just him of course. I've noticed recently more actors are also nuanced and natural. Perhaps this is a shift from the acceptable and even favored kdrama acting?

Is The King Loves good?

I flickle a lot in Yoona. I love her in Prime Minister, K2 (I only watched till ep5) but for me she is born to be in varietyshow. Lol.

I only watch Im Shi Wan in Moon Embraces The Sun, but that one show sealed me, he is born to be an actor.

On side note, why I feel ZE:A's members are actually the most success idol turns actor ever? They didnt make big in music stage, but their acting & variety career wise are surpassing their idol senior.⭐️?
Im Shi Wan, Park Hyung Sik, Kwang Hee & Dong Jun. I hope the other 5 could make it big too.

I am hopeless when it comes to who's who in kpop. Didn't know Si Wan and Park Hyung Sik were in the same group.

This is why I don't want to generalize that all idol actors are bad. Just give them small roles to start with or cast them properly in youth dramas.

I am enjoying The King Loves although I wasn't keen on watching a romantic saeguk which sounded so cliche. It's the slow burn type, I like the story flow and the acting is nuanced - my fav. The sets are beautiful and for the first time, I am admiring the guys in their glorious manes, LOL. Im Si Wan looks perfect in it!

I didn't like Yoona in K2 at all, I thought she and JCW were terribly awkward and unnatural. I am surprised at how likable she is in this show and the ease of chemistry with both guys. I am equally surprised with Hong Jong Hyun. Gone are those stock expressions he wore in Moon Lovers and thank god there's no eyeliner in this show. He's playing his part here very well.

Okay got it. I guess is like a show for upcoming fall season. Just finish FMW and will go for CT then this.

Lmao, I thought he is quite okay as eyeliner badie prince. At least better than Ji Soo- unstraightened carrot root mane of unglory hair in Moon Lover.

I hate K2 story, or whtv, something abt it make me sleepy and ruin my JCW time. U can check Yoona in varietyland too. She is super tomboish with her deep voice (totally diff with her drama's voice) U will fall hard for her :)

Mine is an unpopular opinion - I think everyone was bad in Moon Lovers. It was the only time Ji Soo disappointed me.

Now that you mentioned CT, I remember that I was supposed to pick it up. I just need to get past the initial episodes.

2

To me, The King Loves is good. I had my doubt towards Yoona because I didn't like her in K2, but she has improved a lot in TKL. And the other actors in this drama are doing great job. Some characters are more complex and have layers which made me conflicted to pick side. I'd say to you, give this drama a chance because that's what I did and I'm now loving this drama so much that it's become my top priority drama to watch asap when the episode with subtitles is out.

I also think subtle expressions are more telling than overt ones. Or, an actor that has a million expressions that you are amazed every time you watch them that they play each character so differently you can't believe it's the same actor. I like American character actors for this reason (Stanley Tucci!). But in kdramas, Gong Yoo, Yoo Jin Goo, Si Wan, Seo In Guk, Park Bo Gum, Choi Min Soo are all actors that I think are subtle, but can morph into any character well with a million faces to choose from.

I like Reunited Worlds but I can't stop imagining how much more I would have liked it if it had Young In as the main character. So the drama would basically be: one day the death brother of the main lead comes back to life and helps her and her siblings reconnect and become a family again. But what will happen when she falls for the son of his brother's murderer? (the answer being Young In helps Tae Hoon overcome the fact that his father is a murderer and no stupid separation) Basically I just want more of Tae Hoon, Soo Ji, Hae Cheol&daughter and Young Joon and less of Jung Won and Min Joon. It's not that I don't like them, I do, but they're not really the ones making me tune in each episode. Also not having a love line would make me feel more at ease with Hae Sung living eventually. I can't enjoy the romance if I know he's gonna suddenly disappear someday! It just makes me sad.

That said, I actually didn't manage to watch this week's episodes yet because I'm having so much fun binge watching Solomon's Perjury! I'm 10 episodes in and I don't want it to end. But oh well, I have plenty of other shows on my to watch list, including White Christmas, Tunnel and yes, Signal.

My Korean studies have taken a slump as I have lost motivation to do pretty much everything lately, but I signed up for TOPIK 2 last week and what else to motivate me more than the fear of failing an exam. So I'm in the middle of gathering study resources and I'm ready to learn again!

LOL about Subway PPL! I don't eat it now, but it was a staple in college and med school. I think it's funny how over-used it is in dramas though. My go-to sandwich is wheat bread with turkey, ham, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato green peppers, banana peppers, and peppercorn ranch mayo. Next time, maybe you can try it-- ;-)

Well, I think it's fair to give it one more chance. The one I went to was in a really small town (it was actually the only food option available in the area) and they didn't have many things, pretty sure there were no banana peppers. So I shall go to the one in my city one day and try your combination, it sounds much better than what I had xd.

Hi beanies! Basically, life, or rather dramaland, was good to me this week ?

Woman Of Dignity: ❤️????
So Bok-ja really died and somehow I'm still very satisfied with everything? Amazing.

School 2017: ?????
Wow, I've died and gone to heaven.

Falsify: ?????
Ladies, ladies, gimme all the ladies so we can get things done.

The King Loves: ??????
Everything in the palace is terrible and Rin and San need to run.

Rescue Me: ⛪️????
Everything in the town is horrible, somebody protect my babies Sang-mi and Dong-chul!

Criminal Minds: ??????
My heart got broken in such a good way this week, I bawled, and I kind of wish the children's case were its own drama, except then it'd be as grim as Rescue Me and I'd be the only one watching and I'd dieee.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well today. ..... I think we made it out to the other side of maintenance mode! ...... Oooo, I think I see a new icon!

This week:

Falsify - I've watched up to episode 3 and finding this show quite interesting with all the baddies in the mix.

Live Up to Your Name - Thanks to the recommendations of fellow Beanies, I was able to find and start watching this drama! Thank you Beanies!! ....... I've watched 3 episodes so far and it's been great. You don't see Kim Nam-gil being funny too often and it's been great seeing him hilariously get acquainted with his brand new surroundings.

That's all for now. ...... Take care everyone and have a great Friday and weekend!

Age of Youth 2 premiers today!!!! Thank you again dramagods for this bday gift. heh. Also I guess the DMV felt like delivering my new drivers license today too, but I am sour that they still don't know what to do with my car registration issue, so I won't thank them.

Anyway I am 25 today. It doesn't feel real.. like I remember so clearly the time in 1st grade when my friends and I tried to call Bloody Mary in the haunted bathroom and flooded the toilets..then got in home suspension and had to clean the toilets at home for a week.. Or the time in 3rd grade when I was going to the office to deliver something for the teacher and I collided with my crush and he helped me pick up the papers.. Or being so incredibly uncomfortable with having to change in the girls locker room in Middle School for PE... Or when I was 8 and I lost my favorite necklace at Tahoe Joes steakhouse. I was wearing my favorite white and blue summer dress for my brothers graduation.. Or when I was 5 and my family went to my uncles wedding in Santa Barbara and pulling up to the side of the road lined with palm trees, and the ocean breeze as I stepped out of our red van..
I don't know what life will bring me, but I am glad I seem to remember happy times and events. It helps when I am feeling depressed about life. :) It wasn't always this unsatisfying and it won't stay that way. I know that. Well someone said that this is my golden birthday since I was born on the 25th and am turning 25. First time I have heard of a golden birthday..

Anyone else celebrate their golden birthday? (when you are turning the age of the daydate you were born).. Happy Weekend everyone!

I've been reading JB & GF's book "Why Do Dramas Do That? Part 1.

It was pretty good. In case you are wondering, there really is some stuff in it that you won't get from just hanging around on Dramabeans for a few years.

Near the end it says they are "hard at work" on parts 2 & 3. Then they provide their very own special definition of hard at work.

They also say "Feel free to bombard us with new questions about why the heck dramas do that.

So...

What's with the magic healing powers of rivers when you fall into them?

Why do Koreans alway bump into each other and drop important things?

Why so many urgent bathroom breaks?

Why do stomachs suddenly get so noisy when they get hungry? And why is being hungry such a common excuse for an interruption?

don´t know about rivers but our local folklore gives healing powers to springs and wells which can be true, the water has been found to be antibacterial and heal inflammation. also, people used to sacrifice silver into water which has antibacterial quality. if anything, swamp and spring water should be magical, because it is the purest kind.

koreans bump into each other? I bump into everything. is it not normal, you say?

stomach growling means their gut bacteria is hungry. It is kinda like tamagochi.

Why is confession such a turning point? That it has to be done on first snow? (I know we have to be clear on our feelings and all but we can just date without having to say we like each other - its implied ?) I don't think there's any other culture so obsessed with confession as kdramas.
Why is first snow romanticized?
Why is like (좋아) often interchanged with love (사랑)? Not just in subs but in context.

What's with meat? Why is eating meat glamorized?
SK is probably one of the healthiest countries with large veggie consumptions. But what's with meat? What about carbon footprint?
I don't think celebs eat so much meat though irl. Skin tat perfectly dewy wouldn't survive with all the sodium (And fat. And cholesterol.)

I think the reason why meat is especially glorified is historical, relating particularly to the Korean war. I recall reading some articles on why Spam luncheon meat comes in gift sets even though processed meat is not exactly luxurious (just Google "Spam Korea history and you'll find the articles).

Because the Korean people were so poor and food-deprived during the war, any kind of meat becomes a luxury.

So when the economical circumstances improved, meat BBQs also became something that everyone can enjoy, whereas previously even luncheon meat would have been considered precious. So I'm guessing there's a very high social value and collective memory of past hardships and the now better days attached to eating meat.

Speaking of "confession"

Regardless of what you think about it being such a big deal in kdramas...
... why do they have to translate it as "confession". It's like being in love is a crime or something.

Anyway, everybody go read the book :)

OT week 29! Wow, time sure does fly. And managed to get on Dramabeans, though a little later than usual due to maintenance.
Will have to check the new features out later!

We had a great Goblin meeting last Saturday, and a new person joined us. An acquaintance, teacher, who is friends with another woman in the group, who apparently watches dramas during the school day during her “school prep” time. She was so excited that I think she’s going to catch up with the rest of the episodes this next month! I will never get tired of this kdrama, it’s just so well done. Le SIIIGGGHHH. I still have yet to get the blog up, having problems with the wordpress site for some reason—won’t save my blog. Any other bloggers here that could help troubleshoot?

Anyway, I finally finished Let’s Eat 2! And gave my daughter a nightmare about it apparently, landing me in the doghouse by my husband. (He was at a friend’s house watching Game of Thrones at the time, so I don’t think he has any reason to talk!) She said that the boy living on the roof was creeping her out and because we didn’t know if he actually was bad or good, she just assumed he was bad because he was in the woods sneaking around and her imagination ran away with itself. She’s like me and internalizes everything she watches—at least in the short-term. A couple of things: So the second lead got the girl WAY before the first lead. And then the OTP had one romantic scene? Only 2 weak kisses? The second lead’s kiss was much hotter—LOL! Kind of disappointed with the end. But I can totally see them doing a Let’s Eat 3 now, because I never got emotionally invested in the OTP, because they were never really together and the second lead really did treat her well. He was so sweet while they were dating—even if he was rightfully jealous and beat-up Dae Young for getting too close to Su-ji.

So I haven’t got a chance to continue with White Christmas yet—too busy, too much nice weather, and had to stop watching dramas in the living room after the whole nightmare incident.

Still loving The King Loves. Everyone should just stop what they’re doing and just watch this gorgeous drama. I’m serious, it’s THAT good. The costuming is Goryeo on crack, the cinematography is to die for, the acting is superb, the character development is next level and it’s not your typical love triangle, quadrangle(?), at all. But hubby’s ship is sinking into the oblivion, so he’s stopped watching, kind of—poor guy. I might have a fickle husband. Oh, and my mom loves this show too—but she’ll watch almost anything that’s a love story. So she and I were talking about this drama this week, rather, why she has to wait a week to watch new episodes.

(Phone rings)

Me: Hello?

Mom: Hi, daughter! Is everything ok?

Me: Yes, how are you?

Mom: I’m fine……So, I’ve watched the episodes on line and I want
to watch more. Why are they not on-line yet? Have you seen them on your TV?

Me: No, just that you have to wait until next week to get the new episodes. They’re not even out in Korea yet.

Mom: So I have to wait until next week?!? *feeling the whole weight of the world crashing around her, but I can tell she doesn’t really believe me*

Me: I can’t watch them either, I promise. It’s like when you watched Dallas or Dynasty; you have to wait until next week. *Wait, when was the last time those two shows were mentioned in the same sentence?*

Mom: Oh, okay. Bye.

Me: So that’s it? That’s why you called?

Mom: Yeah, sorry, I’ll talk to you later. *Goes to re-watch the first half of The King Loves, I’m pretty sure.*

(Phone rings 3 hours later)

Me: Hello?

Mom: Hi, so when are the episodes out, EXACTLY?

Me: Next Monday, why?

Mom: OK...*long pause* *Roy Kim's Starlight playing*

Me: Wait, are you still watching it???

Mom: Ok, love you, bye!

Moral of the story: I've created a monster. Note to self--no more live drama watching for my mom.

2nd moral: Really, watch The King Loves, it's fabulous fun.

3rd moral: I really felt that my life was near chaos this AM when I couldn't open DB as per my morning routine. Can't wait to see the new features! Thanks you all!

Hello Beanies!
Tomorrow a new K-drama dilemma will emerge: Age of Youth 2 or Chief Kim?

Age of Youth 2 has been marked in my diary for months now, and it has been ages since I got to watch a show live again, and yet….

I’m finally halfway my Chief Kim marathon, and I am so grateful to all the beanies that recommended it, because Namgoong Min and Junho really should get the best couple award!

Namgoong Min is amazing as Chief Kim, with his yellow shoes and dance strut whenever he is happy. I may not see it coming at times, but in the end I am never really surprised, because it is Namgoong Min.

If I sound Namgoong Min biased, then consider JunHo my biaswrecker. He manages to keep Seo Yul interesting, even when I am done with that gluttonous sociopath at the moment. I can live vicariously through Chief Kim and the cleaning lady however, who put up some hilarious resistance.

Not that I expected a dull character, I just did not expect him to be so interesting and dare I say handsome at the same time! Then there is also his crush on Ha-kyung and his marriage to food... yes I am done with him.

There are other scene stealers that I simply must mention:

Strongest Dimpleman, AKA Kim Sun-Ho as Sang-Tae: the tallest and cutest nerd I have ever seen! Rumor has it he can pull off a chaebol look as well, but I still need to check another K-drama to see it for myself ;)

Dongha, AKA Park Myung-Seok: The last nudge I needed to start the first episode. He has an amazing wardrobe and a contagious laugh that makes my day. Do not touch his mother or his Nana.

I guess I’ll see if I can watch some more Chief Kim tonight, Age Of Youth 2 will not be available here until tomorrow anyway ;)

Age of Youth 2 has got a very promising start. I'm a fan of the original and have been looking forward to the second season ever since it was announced. I watched the first episode just now and all the feels came back when I saw the girls together again. It still has Park Yeon-seon's amazing writing; the actresses are still in character like no time has passed at all (yes, even "Eun-jae") and the overall vibe of the show hasn't changed. I love it!!

On another note, Strongest Dimpleman (Kim Sun-ho) is MINE, so hands off! ;) LOL. He caught my eye in Chief Kim for being such a lovable dork. His little side romance with Gwang-sook was the sweetest. He looked beyond her gaudy makeup and old-fashioned style to find a beautiful girl who was bright, cheerful and loyal to a fault; while she saw through his nerdy glasses and bowl haircut to reveal a sweet and caring man. They're just made for each other.

hello

how are you? it is raining so hard that I am having doubts about where I am. the only thing that confirms me I am still in Estonia is that a) the price of butter rises twicefold in one week and b) I can go and chat on Instagram or Facebook with all my favorite bands and they always answer. I love how easy and matter of fact it is.

Wanted to update you about my granny. You remember the demonic care home she was supposed to go? She decided for a different one on our advice at the last minute and it had been great. She made a lot of friends and they only gave her the exact pills that my aunt wrote down on paper. Nothing weird. The system is government enables old people who need special care to spend a month at a home of their choice while only having to provide 15 % of the expenses, the state takes care of the rest. The reason why granny insisted on the other home first was because of the friends she made there last time. She didnt want a new place even if the nurses were psychoes. Glad that she relented. They even had a concert and movie night but she doesnt see much, so she skipped the movie. It confuses her. Anyway, just wanted to reassure you she wasnt abducted by alien doctors or anything, to those who read the original story.

Dramas: I like criminal minds a lot better than most folks, even if it is draggy. I can understand what their intentions are, but they should make it more visual. you can do so much with the camera when you want to go psychological and all

School 2017 - it is taking so long to catch up but I did, cause skipping something would seem disrespectful towards the kids´ struggles. I have relented about the way they are showing the teachers, it did get better and they are showing a better side of themselves. Class teacher Shim still my absolute favorite character here. He is so winning, can´t help but cheer him on. He is like a teacher from a japanese drama somehow gotten lost in a korean school, he is so idealistic and doesn´t fit in at all. Eun Ho´s dad is my other favorite. Him and Sa Rangs´ mom. Fighting!

while Dad is just cute (and does anyone else get the feeling he is a little, uh, "special"?), Soo Ji is a very well built character. She is not just about being "tough". She takes action rather than sitting around surrendering to circumstances. she is a way-finder. So many characters in the show let their conditions define them and press down their desire to act up, but she won´t. I am glad Soo Ji recognizes Young Guns´ delinquence as dissatisfaction with the "system" rather than maliciousness. I predict Young Gun will soon be joining the "squad" and be quite useful. not that I would want to say they should use her.

I also quite sympathize with Nam Joo and Sa Rang. One is completely shutting her frustrations and insecurities inside and this weighs her down. No 18-year old can be in such control of her emotions, it is not healthy. She needs to learn to rely on somebody. hope it is Dae Hwi. I...

reply

Required fields are marked *

I am also very curious about her home life and siblings, I hope we see more into her house. Eun Ho´s dad wondering if one chicken is enough! Really, small moments and phrases are what make ithis show.
Sa Rang is also pressing down her desires but she doesnt encapsul them. everyone can read her moods, really. Gosh, that scene with her mom ast the restaurant really got me. I had similar stuff going on, I switched off all my "wants" because both parents wer unemployed for a while, I also worked picking bewrries 13 hours a day as a 14-year old. so I can totally feel what they are feeling.

I like how Hae Ran doesnt have just some abstract dream to "Become rich" or be powerful - she wants to be an artist of all things, which is no smooth road. The show is very realistic about the overwhelming amount of competition, uncertainty and self-doubt. There is no magic wand to make onself popular, Nothing is guaranteed when you are an artist. It feels like perhaps it is the writers´ personal experience? half- autobiographical? It may seem like reaching nowhere, but life tends to go full circle and whatever you do even small things can take you further than you imagine.

Dae Hwi has enough determination to start his own business, I think. he shouldn´t be desperate about college. I wish he and Tae Woon would join forces in their career as well somehow. That would enable both to break free of "conditions"

Hee Chuls´ mother is the worst. I even feel sorry for him, is any person born to any mother with the intention to turn evil? No matter what, he is still a kid. Same for Bit Na - it is the system, the social order that made her like this. Or...on the other hand, that is kind of blaming "conditions" again.
enough of School, now where are my zombies...

Real life korean drama moment: seeing someones´ hair shimmer in slow motion after rain. what the hell was that?

My question today: what gave you the fuzzies this week? For me it was the adorkable pictures of Choi Siwon with vietnamese children. He is such a big kid!

I was keeping an eye on the site maintenance but how is it already 75 comments here when all it showed for me was maintenance...

Hi redfox! Glad to hear that your grandmother changed her mind and it's worked out so well.

I had warm fuzzies this week about all of America bonding, if even for a few short moments, over the eclipse on Monday. It was really heartwarming, especially since things are so strained here about almost everything else.

And I have warm fuzzies because a favorite craftsperson finished her book and it made me think of you (yes, you, redfox!) her name is Hilary Pfeifer and her book is named Little Foxes, her website is bunnywithatoolbelt.com. I have several of her alphabet books and also send her stop motion YT videos for birthdays ("birthday! birthday! birthday!") and Winter holidays (What's your sign"). Anyway, it made me think of you and the foxes are soooooo cute!

haha yes, the eclipse had my american friends go crazy on Facebook especially librarian friends who got like 7000 requests for eclipse glasses.

Glad you enjoyed the eclipse! Did you find some glasses or did you make a viewing box? It was nice to bond over the eclipse, wasn't it?

it is also a relief for my aunt plus granny gets like a vacation out of her house, otherwise boredom would give her depression. She is now much more cheerful.

Thanks for the warm welcome! So glad I found this site. Not being Korean, there are cultural nuances in the dramas that I often miss. I've also had my share of weirdly subbed episodes. But the community here has helped me sort these out. Much thanks!

[Strongest Deliveryman] I hope I'm not the only one falling head-over-heels for the second leads! Especially after seeing Kim Sun-ho's excellent portrayal of the comical, pompous yet vulnerable chaebol character. (EP7!) I'm super fond of these two extreme sides of Oh Jin-gyu which were strange but somehow it miraculously works for me because KSH plays it so well. Also I am definitely shipping the relationship between him and the second female lead, even though I don't mind a little Second Lead Syndrome angst. They are made for each other, no matter how hard they try not to be :DDD First time ever that I am looking forward to watch second leads in a show!

Are "Noble, My Love", "1% of Anything" and "My Secret Romance" a series or related to each other? The casts seem to overlap in the three, and the presentation seems similar. I know that "1% of Anything" and "My Secret Romance" have the same director and I *think* writer (I could be wrong about that), "Noble My Love" has many of the cast of both of those.

Just watched "Midnight Runners" in the theater. Great movie. Park Seo-joon and Kang Ha-neul were hilarious. While I didn't expect serious crime solving from these two buffoons, I was surprised how serious and disturbing the case turned out.

HI EVERYONE!! :) A happy greeting before the rant.

SO! I am SO freaking annoyed right now. I really and truly am. My dad has been “helping” with my move. I always forget that my dad is getting old. He doesn’t seem old. He’s in (much) better shape than I am. And he has a better memory. Of my 17 hour drive he drove about 4 hours. And in turn complained about my driving and complained about his poor eye sight and complimented himself for being super awesome. Now, this drive was supposed to take 17 hours. Accept that I have a fairly not new car and it’s a fairly smallish car and I was pulling a trailer. So. The 17 hour drive took closer to 35 and I had to pull over and get a hotel (not budgeted for) twice (really not budgeted for). When we left my dad said lets take 2 trips because it will be easier on your car. I agreed because it made sense and because I was really fucking exhausted and the delirium made anything sound good. We get to the new city. I spend 3 days driving around looking at apartments (my chosen apartment and the three back ups that I had in place ALL FELL THROUGH) while pulling this trailer. My car is straining and huffing and puffing and the entire time my dad is all—when you get back home you’ll just have to put in your file cabinet, tv, and computer. Everything else is already in the truck. I finally get my apartment (about 50 dollars per month towards the highest part of my budget and without a washer dryer hookup but, again, I was exhausted and every fucking thing sounded good) and go to put the stuff in the trailer in storage (we hadn’t done it before because the apartments I looked at all told me I could move in THAT DAY and who wants to move the same stuff twice?) and in the trailed 6.Fucking.Boxes. Now, let me tell you about this trailer. This trailer cost: 400 dollars to put a hitch on + 306 dollars for a one way 5X8 trailer+ 20 dollars per additional day (not budgeted for). All in all. This trailer set me back almost 1,000 dollars. For 6.Fucking.Boxes. We turn around and go back home to get my file cabinet, computer and tv and see that NOTHING that was supposed to be in the trailer (I had packed my boxes so long ago that I didn’t remember) was IN the storage unit. Dishes? At home. Pots and Pans? At home. Winter clothes? (I’m moving to a much colder climate) At home. Cleaning supplies? At. Fucking. Home. So, I have no idea what I spent 1,000 dollars hauling all over creation but it wasn’t the shit that I need and I have NO IDEA how I’m going to get the rest of the stuff up there because another 400 dollars for another hitch +plus 3 days in a hotel because+ double the amount of gas is NOT in my budget. AND my toxic former job STIFFED me out of 2700 dollars on my last paycheck. I feel like I SHOULD do something about it. I certainly don’t want to work in that nightmare for free. But I also don’t want to associate with them. AT.ALL. Ever again.
I love my dad. He’s one of the most amazing people I know. But he really...

... ... There's such a thing as FedEx you know... or DHL or UPS.

And you didn't confirm your apartment before you left????? And who packed your things...

I'm just completely confused right now...

Me. TOO. I did confirm my apartment before I left. And the back up apartment. And the backup to the backup apartment. I was really, freaking prepared and I went up there and the first apartment was all: Oh, so sorry, we rented to someone else! and the second apartment was all: Oh, the apartment isn't going to be available until November! (...but...you said September? (which is why they were number 2 as I was planning on moving mid-August) Apt number 3 looked NOTHING like the online listing and was not worth the amount they were charging so, I said no thank you. Apt 4 told me that I needed to have 35,100 saved to move in immediately (which is not what I was told)
With all of these apartments, I called and spoke to someone (since I would be moving from out of state) filled out an application and faxed it to them and Western Union'd them to hold my position. It did. Not.Work.)
And, yes, FedEx and DHL and UPS all exist. And are all really expensive when you have 20 boxes of books and another handful of boxes of other crap. I've looked into it before. Its expensive.
Now, I packed my stuff. Painstakingly packed all of it. I had boxes color coordinated by room with a list of contents on the box and another list in my bujo so that I would know. And each box was numbered. My organizational skills for this move were the best my organizational skills have ever been for anything ever in my life. And since I was driving the first 4 hours my dad told me to sleep while he packed up the truck. And he grabbed one or two boxes from this pile and one or two boxes from that pile and said, : Done. Which I didn't know about until we unloaded the trailer several days later.

I have the rest of the nonsense packed (and labeled) and am making a list of things to get when I move to tide me over. And am either going to do a visit in a couple of weeks and load up my poor little car or have my dad mail things to me a few boxes at a time. But, its really, really expensive.

AND NONE OF IT MAKES A LICK OF SENSE. I know none of it makes a lick of sense. Its why I'm so dag on pissed off! I was ORGANIZED! My typical deal is to be super organized on paper, get frustrated or impatient, chuck the paper and wing it. But, this time I was all: moving across the country. I don't know a blessed soul. I'm COUNTING on being screwed over by my old job. I have interviews but no job offers so I have to be organized with my money and such. AND IT ALL WENT DOWN THE TUBES. I should have done what I always do: plan to be organized, give that nonsense up and wing it. Winging it works so much better for me.

Yep! This week has been a little...well. Thank GOODNESS Swoon 2017 went balls to the walls Swoony or I would have lost it completely. As it was, when things were all...Lets see how bad things can really get I replayed my favorite scenes, channeled my inner Hye Young and said, "bish, I got this." I found an ADORABLE apartment (on the higher end of my budget, but, whatever)I have the important stuff (computer and roku stick and tv) in my car and in spite of everything enough money still saved to last me several months if I don't get a job offer or a part time job right away. Its an adventure. A really exhausting one. One that would have been better if I had been in charge of packing of my truck, but, whatever. I'm really excited to start the next leg. I leave at 5 in the morning so in spite of how AWESOME FiS was today I absolutely canNOT hang out in the boards and chat today. Which is sad, as this is the only social site that I've missed (and pinterest. I can't survive without pinterest) hanging out on this week. Thanks @vannerie!

Oh. That's a relief. I've had a number of difficult house moves over the years (some more recently) but this sounded awful and everything is more emotional when you are so tired which happens when you are moving. Look after yourself and let me know how you get on!

I was seeing father is strange and I just was wondering about the kissing scenes. Why kdrama heroines why??? If you are in love with someone how does a fish kiss do justice to your love "?especially min young and joon . ?

I think it's got to to do with the chemistry the leads have offscreen ? I think most of how you portray on screen is the result of how comfy actors are offscreen. But father is strange puzzles me . The lead actor and actress did a photo shoot too didn't they? So why the lack why the lack? ??‍♀️

My understanding is that this is a family drama and generally due to genre, being on a major station versus cable and the hour the drama is shown, they keep things pretty low key. In the family drama, Five Family, after a marriage things remained quite G rated and both actors were playing people who had been married before. These dramas are meant for the whole family to watch and be able to be comfortable. So, yeah, you get the wimpy kisses.

I also think there are specific rules regarding dramas focused on teens such as School 2017 as well.

I found this page when I was searching for a drama - one of those "this is the next drama after this one is over" trailers that looked really good but wasn't subbed - I thought I'd share it. I also stuck it on my fan wall, but this may reach more Beanies.

Hi beanies! Been going on dramabeans for recaps for months now, but only decided to register myself now. Its been so long since I've become a part of an online community. This seems exciting :-)

I'm currently watching My Father is Strange. Super sad its ending this week :/ Its been such a constant during my weekends that its kind of hard to except it won't be any more. Anyone who share the same sentiment?

I'm searching for a site/link that lists all the drama specials done for a given year - does anyone know where I can find one? I have a link that lists all the dramas for a year by network, but it's not complete - at least some of the dramas aren't listed.

I like the two episode format of the specials, it's a break from the 16-20 episode format of the "traditional" drama. I've seen many if them, but usually just stumble on them or hear about them from other sources. Thank you for any help you can give!
