Sohn Ye-jin may become Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food

After her successes in Chungmuro, is Sohn Ye-jin (Shark) finally ready to come back to dramaland? She’s received an offer to star in the new drama from critically acclaimed PD Ahn Pan-seok (I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Secret Love Affair, A Wife’s Credentials) called Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food, which is on the books for a 2018 broadcast on JTBC.

Her agency MSTeam Entertainment told reporters that she’s reviewing the script, but hasn’t made any decisions yet. She’s currently in the middle of filming two movies—crime thriller Negotiation with Hyun Bin and Japanese melo remake Be With You with So Ji-sub—so I’m not quite sure how soon her schedule will free up in the near future.

Details on the drama itself have remained tightly under wraps, so we only have the title to go by in expecting a noona romance. In any case, I’m hoping that Sohn Ye-jin will come back to dramaland, because I’d like to see the depth she’s gained through her experiences from her successful films (see: Last Princess, The Truth Beneath, The Pirates) translated into a new memorable television character for her.

Maybe we’ll get another forbidden Secret Love Affair-like romance out of PD Ahn Pan-seok. Time to start fantasy casting for her younger male costar. Lee Won-geun, anyone? I heard his movie Misbehavior with Kim Haneul was super hot. There’s probably no shortage of rising starts who are dying to be part of the next Kim Hee-ae/Yoo Ah-in pairing.

Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food is preparing to broadcast in the beginning half of next year on JTBC.

Yay! My favorite director and one of my favorite actresses 💖! I knew Ahn is not going to cast a crappy lead in his dramas.
Son Ye-jin should know that he is amazing and he is worth coming back to dramaland to work with.
"End of the World" should be mentioned under his name. It's too bad the ratings wasn't good enough and some episodes had to be cut but he has the skills to compensate when things like that happens.

This is my most anticipated drama! I hope she'll accept.

Ahn Pan-seok probably doesn't take crap from the channel executives. He seems to get his way with the casting.
I wish Kim Jin-min would direct more sageuks.
I do feel bad for Kim Jin-won the most. Double workload with weak actors.

Sohn Ye Jin and PD Ahn ? I want them to work together but since she already has two movies it will be hard for her to accept the role. Still hoping for her comeback in dramaland <3

Yes to this news! I hope she will accept. Although her schedule looks tight. But this kind of offer probably will be the hardest for her to refuse.

And yes for suggestion for Lee Won-geun to be casted. We have many others rising and talented stars like Kim Jung-hyun or Yang Se-jong, but my heart goes to to Lee Won-geun more. After Sassy Go go and The Good Wife, he seems to be under radar. He is as cute as puppy, but.. he can do much more instead of just some puppy role. Or maybe he is another actor who prefers long and safe road.

In case Son Ye-jin declines (not that I want to), maybe Kim Hyun-joo can be the replacement? Kim Hyun-joo is a great actress but not all her drama are that great which can show her skills, so it's quite a waste. And I miss her too as she isn't doing any drama this year.

Same. Kim Hyun Joo is a solid actress but her past dramas aren't that good (in terms of writing). I miss her too.

I haven't watched Misbehavior, so I can't comment on that yet lol. But I read some reviews. What I meant earlier was puppy role in kdrama, so I'm glad he is trying different role in movie instead.

I feel like Lee Won Geun's case is really sad, he has everything a male lead needs except for one hit drama to make people start noticing him.

He was so cute in Sassy Go Go but he also has this intelligent/cunning feel that can suit darker roles too, I felt it in parts of SGG. He would do well in a drama by Ahn Pan Suk, he even worked with Kim Ki Duk before that director was exposed as a gross sexually harassing pig.

Ugh Kim Ki-duk.😑 I haven't read much about his latest news after he has been sued.

I agree, Lee Won-geun can do much more. Probably he isn't getting many interesting offers due to not so powerful agency, which is sad. But he got to do TGW last year so I guess some people do recognized his talent.

I hope he gets more recognition, at least in this time that he's not famous and not tied to an image he tried interesting projects and a range of roles.

I loved his bromance with Ji Soo so much in SGG but (shhh) I actually think he is a better actor than Ji Soo. Ji Soo is very intense, this guy not so much but he has more subtle emotions and wider range. But that's only from seeing the later projects. In SGG they were perfect together, it didn't feel like a mismatch or that one was better than the other.

Everyone seems to love Lee Won-geun but he is just ok to me. I don't mind him in things but there are many other actors out there I prefer over him. I feel like he only has two expressions which is his goofy smile and his 'serious' look.

I think it depends on how much of his works we watched and how we valued him. I didn't say he is the best out there, but with a right role he can do more. Talking about chances here. Anyway, it's OK to have different opinion, because my opinions also usually different from many others.

Different opinions make things interesting and more fun to discuss! And I've only really seen him in the lighter roles. Like Mystery Queen, Sassy Go Go, and Hyde Jekyll, Me. He may be better in a deeper role but I've not seen him in a drama like that yet.

Maybe we see it differently but I never saw LWG as 'goofy'? Goofy is what I think of Lee Kwang Soo or Namgoong Min or even sometimes Kang Ha Neul or Lee Seung Gi, that slapstick/very comedic feel to their expressions sometimes. LWG is not that type of funny.

I want to see Lee Hyun-woo back in Dramaland in 2018! He has the acting caliber to match, and will be super adorable with a major case of noona crush. And we all know that he can also deliver hot steamy kisses!!

I would love a chance for former child actors to prove themselves that they still have it. Transitioning age is probably the hardest.

Lee Hyun-woo (24), Noh Young-hak (24), Lee Min-ho (24), Lee David (23).
Lee Hyun-woo is the more popular and Noh is incredibly underrated.

Since I am still riding the Rescue Me high I think Woo Do-Hwan would make an excellent casting choice. He would be perfect in a darker melodrama. Those expressive eyes! I know he is currently in Mad Dog, but can't he be in this also? And every upcoming drama also? PLEASE?

When it comes to noona romance, I prefer the man to look like a boy with a mentality of an adult person. I cannot see Woo Do-Hwan as that person. He is rugged and manly. Tall too, so he would not be my first choice for the role. Lee Won Geun is a good choice. So is Guitar Boy in School 2017. Don't remember his name.

I'm not sure what you find creepy. I just meant, a baby face adult man like Yoo Ah in or Lee Won Geun would work. It's a noona romance afterall, so, the man has to be younger than his lady. But more importantly, the man has to be mature and responsible for the relationship to work.

The part where you said the man has to look like a boy.

If "noona" romance is a vicarious way to pair up older women with actors who look like they're boys, but them acting as "mature" adults is a way to get around that ick factor, it doesn't change the fact that it's creepy.

OMG this would be a dream come true!! Sohn Yejin is my favourite actress of all times and I am determined to watch everything she's been in! And it is even better that the project comes from the PD behind I Heard It Through the Grapevines and Secret Love Affair. The directing of those dramas is mesmerizing! He truly creates an unique tone and atmosphere that is perfect for the respective stories. And his sense of comedy is quite unique in Dramaland. It is subtle, dry and satirical!

I'm really loving Lee yo won in buam dong revenge club so I wouldn't mind her in the noona role aswell.
Also Lee won guen was something else in misbehavior. I watched that entire movie without subs, and he was amazing in the risqué scenes.

I'm sorry to say that I don't like noona romance that much, especially if the age gap is great, like in the case of Hospital Ship. I like Ha Ji Won, and her dramas are so much more enjoyable when she's paired with Hyun Bin, Joo Ji Mo, Lee Seo Jin, but not with Jang Geum Suk, Lee Seung Ki.. Similarly, I adore Sohn Ye Jin's beauty and some of her earlier movies, but I just can't be convinced in her pairing with Lee Min Ho in Personal Taste. If indeed some younger actors need to be considered, among the suggestions by other beanies, I'd think Woo Do Hwan warrants consideration because of his versatility.

Jung Hae In. Hes got great presence and i think its a matter of time that he steps into the leading man arena. Park Bo Gum seems to be lying low in search of a great project. It will improve his street cred to take on work with a critically acclaimed production team than to do commercial again

I second this. Together with Lee Won Geun, Jung Hae In or Park Bo Gum are the actors I'd like to see in this role. I'm hoping for something along the lines of 'Secret Love Affair' - and would love to see their take on a Lee Sun Jae -ish character.

I'm going to cry if it turns out to be some other writer. I just want them to be the dynamic duo that we look forward to watching their dramas even if they do it every 2yrs.

I'm kind of worried that Son Ye-jin might not be able to fit this into her schedule.
It's not like she needs to do dramas. She is Chungmuro's princess! She has been for a long time.

If only Song Joong-ki was a bit younger and available. If only Yeo Jin-goo was a bit older and wasn't in a boring noona romance drama recently.

Don't worry! I really hope it's her, but even if it's not, I don't think Ahn Pan-seok will put up with a crappy writer. The End of the World was written by a newbie, and look how great that turned out ;)

Oh man, I can't even imagine how great a Song Joong-ki/Son Ye-jin pairing would be. I wonder how young they want the guy to be. To be honest I'm not a fan of many actors in their mid-late 20's, so I'm not sure who would be good. It could've been interesting to see Kim Soo-hyun reset his career and try something serious again, but he's going into the military, so idk. Are there any younger guys who do mostly movies who could work?

1

You are right! I'm not going to worry about the casting. She is probably trying to fit it into her schedule since she hasn't turned it down yet. News of her casting has been around for almost a month.
I don't remember Ahn casting any popular young actors in his dramas. In fact he hardly work with young leads till "Grapevine." I'm not sure how popular Lee Joon was before Grapevine. But he was an actor first before becoming an idol.

I feel the same way about male actors in their mid to late 20s.
The ones that I used to love are in their 30s now.
My favorites who are still in their mid to late 20s are mostly female, Park Bo-young, Park Eun-bin, Kim Go-eun, Kang Han-na, Go Ah‑sung etc.
I do have a soft spot for the male child actors who are in their early 20s though. Some of them a so talented but underrated.

I'd take Park Jung-min over Kim Soo-hyun any day and I'm glad he is doing well in Chungmuro.
I love the Kim Soo-hyun before he was famous. I don't like the pressure that Keyeast is putting on him as their cash cow. Maybe it's a good thing that he is going into the military.

My favorite actress! She is really great in movies, unfortunately, her latest dramas were rather boring. I really want to see her in a good drama again (so I can see her for more than 2 hours lol). I hope she will accept (if the script is really good). Let's see if she can manage to fit it in her schedule.
