Untouchable begins the war of succession between two brothers
In the latest action-thriller teaser for upcoming chaebol drama Untouchable, the patriarch of a syndicate family, played by Park Geun-hyun (Criminal Minds), rises from the dregs of poverty to rule over the region of Bukcheon. But the core conflict of the show is the power struggle between his two sons, who fight to gain ultimate control. I’m so ready for the face-off between megalomaniac first son Kim Sung-kyun (Answer Me 1988) and vengeful widower second son Jin Gu (Night Light).
Kim Sung-kyun uses a similar political strategy as his father to gain popularity with the townsfolk, smiling at photo ops and mingling sympathetically with the populace. However, his unscrupulous mindset is revealed in his voiceover: “When the weak crawl up, the strong stamp them down—this is how real politics works.” As Park Geun-hyung looks out a car window, he wonders what it would feel like to be the one with the greatest power, looking down.
The stakes rise as Jin Kyung (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim) rages against the senseless deaths of four of her policemen colleagues. Jin Gu cries over the death of his wife’s body, who was everything to him. He had turned his back on his corrupt family and became a police detective, despite his father’s plans to make him the heir to his underground empire, but he goes back home when he realizes his wife’s death may be related to his powerful family. Onscreen copy reads, “One who is trying to uncover the truth. One who is trying to make the truth disappear.”
A sudden internal investigation begins at the prosecutor’s office, and Jung Eun-ji (Sassy Go Go) insists that the power they are up against has the ability to create problems from nothing. She plays a rookie prosecutor who walks a thin line in pursuit of her own success. Jin Kyung declares that they have no choice but to dig and destroy the family from its very roots. The teaser ends with Jin Gu aiming his gun, asking, “Who are you working for?”
JTBC Friday-Saturday drama Untouchable will premiere on November 24.
