Yoo Seung-ho loves an android in I’m Not a Robot

In the upcoming sci-fi romance I’m Not a Robot, Yoo Seung-ho (Ruler–Master of the Mask) stars as a man who has everything, but unfortunately lives with a “human allergy” condition. As a result, he’s never been in a relationship before. When he meets a female android, he learns to connect emotionally and ends up falling in love with it. But, plot twist: She’s not a robot at all. Chae Soo-bin (Strongest Deliveryman) will play dual roles, as female android Aji-3 and human woman Ji-ah. Due to a chance circumstance, the young woman begins a part-time job where she impersonates a robot that looks exactly like her.

It’s Yoo Seung-ho’s first stab at being a rom-com lead, and I can’t help that my hopes are super high. I mean, just look at those smiley eyes! In the recently released teaser, an android is assembled from the core electronic parts, turning into Chae Soo-bin. Yoo Seung-ho walks toward her hesitantly and as he looks into her eyes, he says: “I wish you weren’t a robot.” He turns away, and we see one tear falling from Chae Soo-bin’s face as the caption changes from “I am a ROBOT” to “I am NOT a ROBOT.”

In the stills below, Eom Ki-joon (Defendant) has transformed completely that I almost didn’t recognize him with the puppy dog floofy hair. Eom Ki-joon plays an internationally recognized robotics professor who creates Aji-3. Although he’s an engineering genius purported to be the next Steve Jobs, he’s completely hopeless when it comes to affairs of the heart. His character looks adorable—although it is kind of creepy that he creates a robot that looks exactly like his ex, especially after “she broke up with him harshly.”

It’s the opposite to Chae Soo-bin’s human character Jo Ji-ah, Eom Ki-joon’s former girlfriend, who has an Einstein-level EQ, which is why she wants to start a business: to make products that people need. Chae Soo-bin’s robot character Aji-3 also strives to understand emotions and is very curious about humans, because that’s something innately programmed into her software.

MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday miniseries I’m Not a Robot plans to begin airing in early December.

Well then, how about Terminator? Or Sonny from I, ROBOT? Either of them should be able to turn the lady 'bot's head. ;-)

But they won't stand a chance against Yoo Seung-ho's floods of tears, which are guaranteed to short them out. ;-)

They got me at Park Ji-yoon's "Nocturne" from the BICHEONMU OST. But it's so tragic that I hope it has nothing to do with I'M NOT A ROBOT.

The plot is sounding better and better with the android "birth" secret. ;-)

Chae Soo-bin has pulled a total transformation from Ga-ryung. Let's hope that no one has to shoot her with an arrow this time.

His [Eom Ki-joon’s] character looks adorable—although it is kind of creepy that he creates a robot that looks exactly like his ex

It could be worse. He could have designed the 'bot to look like himself, as Mr. Data's designer did. LOL! But then Yoo Seung-ho would be out of a gig. I'm wondering if there's going to be a nice Pygmalion twist to this show.

Everyone has adorable fluffy puppy hair in this!

This looks really cute. And Yoo Seung-ho is so adorable it's hard to fathom he hasn't been a rom-com lead yet.

This is one of the upcoming dramas I'm really looking forward to.

I hope I won't ship the android and yoo seung ho too much. They are the same person anyway, or no?
Will the show give us more yoo seung ho's puppy eyesmile? They must use the best of it in his first romcom!
And I hope I will not hate Uhm Ki Joon's character here, he looks so adorable in the still cuts, I just want to love scientist hong 😍
It is such a treat to have CSB, YSH and UKJ in one screen,really...

I hope the they can handle the explanation of how YSH love to the android translates to Chae Soo Bin real self as well. I don't want another 'Big' or 'Oh My Ghostess' where the main lead initially fall in love with a different identity in one body but then they suddenly also love the real person inside despite having little interaction and different personality.

Careful, let's not burden him with too much expectations.

Too many dramas this year that people were screaming 'will hit daebak!' did only ok or poorly, even ones with a lot if hype and top idols. Let this drama's success be a good surprise instead.

When will Yoo Seung Ho get a female character that will do his smoky intensity justice? He's much too manly for all these fellow former child stars. Last time I liked his costar was in Remember, Son's War. Couldn't finish his Ruler drama bc his costar looked so baby faced as to be unconvincing as his love interest. Looks like the same is about to happen here.

She's only one year younger to him and not a child actor. And she matched well with actors who are older than YSH too. I think Chae Soo Bin should be fine.

Exactly my point.. He should avoid costars around his age (most of them former child stars like himself) because he seems so far advanced in maturity and skill than them. These actresses fit high school roles not actual romantic-leading-woman roles that will involve such actresses handling issues that grown women face (while not looking like convincing grown women).

This is just something I really feel strongly about, since it has ruined the fun of many a promising drama for me.

I don't understand what you are saying. He shouldn't work with forner child stars (Chae Soobin is not a child star) and also shouldn't work with women close to him in age or younger than him? I don't see the problem with him working with a same-age actress, isn't that ideal pairing?

Required fields are marked *

Kim So-hyun matched with him just fine and in fact Yoo Seunh-ho and her were extremely well loved by the Korean audience just like the moonlight kids. The only thing wrong with Ruler was the story but international fans love to blame actresses for everything. Patriarchy is just embedded in you isn't it.

Required fields are marked *

@Filiai I'm sure I don't go around labelling people by the opinions. So no cause for the "Patriarchy" comment... Whatever that means. By the way, I didn't like Moonlight either for the same reasons... These overly young looking actresses aren't my kind of leading ladies for certain genres and couples with certain actors.

@pigsnout obviously Chae Soo Bin is not a child star... Because she is no longer a child which was why I termed her "former child star" just like YSH is a former child star. If she never did any acting as a child then that's my mistake. But I do lump her along with most of them who still have some growing up to do before tackling major roles with certain themes.

Not sure why I have to be judged for my view or questioned... It's just my opinion regarding what I enjoy and how I enjoy my dramas. Why is this an issue?

CSB debut 2015, she was never a child star. She was born 1994, only one year younger than YSH. She has been on almost 20 projects. She certainly doesnt need to grow up.

It's just I don't follow your logic about why a 23 year old actress with at least 7-8 roles under her belt and who already did at least two long dramas including a proper sageuk, has to "grow up" before being costar to a 24 year old.

You obviously know nothing about her, to keep calling her a former child star, why is it an issue when we question your statements about what you "enjoy"? We said she's only one year younger to him so if her age is not the issue then what is?

I really can't be bothered to be going in circles with you or anyone.. I generally avoid your type like a plague..the type that pick on a comment they take offence to and try to stir up things just because someone has a different PREFERENCE.

I'm going on physical looks, that's the BASIS of my my view and not how many dramas she's been in or years of experience she has. Her looks still seem immature to me and this makes it tough to try and watch her in a romantic role of this caliber.

I'm sure you've avoided or been wary of dramas for even more shallow reasons. This is why some people prefer "noona" type pairings where in real life the heroine is much older than the hero. It just feels smoother and more comfortable to watch than with an actress who looks like she would still fit in with acting high school roles.

Not bashing Chae bin, she's a great girl I'm sure. I already stated my error in calling her a child star.. She just seemed to have started acting from a younger age, as I remember seeing her in Cheer Up which is the only drama of hers I've watched. She looked REALLY young there and hasn't much changed.

I get what you mean but I've always been a firm believer of expect the unexpected ya ;) Usually the ones with the most baby-like face carry in them the most maturity. How about focusing more on her little body gestures...perhaps it would distract you from her face? :-)

Well honestly, from all the upcoming shows and teasers about possible future shows, I have to say this would be the one that catch my attention. But faithful to BTLIOF I will not watch anything else, but repeat all episodes of BTLIOF at least 3 times, and then give me a break from dramaland and start to learn French.

Wait, did I get it right?
Basically, Chae Soo-bin will play Jo Ji-ah and Aji-3. Robot Aji-3, was created to look like Ji-ah, who is the professor's ex-girlfriend, and due to some circumstances, Ji-ah will impersonate Aji-3 who was made to look like her? I guess Ji-ah being the professor's ex-girlfriend confused me XD

The way he said “I wish you were human” - it sounds sooooo deep and sad and wistful and heartbreaking. Only YSH can pull off making one line sound like the world collapsing. That’s charisma and emotional gravitas right there. So impressive as always.

Such dramas can only work if the female lead is someone who makes you understand why he's like this because of her.

But look at her eyes in the last shot, she matches YSH melo eyes really well. I'm having expectations of their chemistry now, she's not too old for him and not too young either, like the smallest bear bed in Goldilocks she is just right!
