Hyun Bin, Park Shin-hye courted for healing SBS melodrama

This would certainly be a star-powered coupling: Hyun Bin (Swindlers; Hyde, Jekyll, Me) and Park Shin-hye (Doctors) are both currently in talks to star in a human melodrama from the writer of Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, to air on SBS. The drama’s title translates literally to Fox Bride Star, although I’m not 100 percent committed to that reading; it’s a made-up term and not explained, so I’m going with literal for now.

The plot centers around a man and woman who meet in Seoul, and they heal the scars in each other’s hearts as they encounter music, food, people, and stories. That’s fairly generic-sounding, but I’m recalling how Romantic Doctor took a medical setting and filled it with quirky characters and interesting relationships, so that’s what I’m hoping for this drama, particularly if we get these two stars to come onboard. Mostly, I just want Hyun Bin to do dramas again, so we can erase the memory of the bad ones. I know he’s been doing much better in the film realm, but nobody should want Hyde, Jekyll, Me to be the last word they leave in a genre!

Hyun Bin’s potential character is a genius (sigh) advertising executive who has risen to the top, but in his life’s best moment, he suffers the worst accident. Park Shin-hye’s character is of a 27-year-old woman whose father died nine years ago while saving another person’s life, leaving her all alone in the world. She’s left to figure out how to get by in this world, made tougher when she loses both her compensation and support funding. But when she meets our hero, they start to heal each other’s pain and change for the better.

The drama reunites Hyun Bin with his Secret Garden director, PD Shin Woo-chul, who also directed A Gentleman’s Dignity and Gu Family Book in the intervening years. PD Shin has also worked with writer Kang Eun-jung before on Gu Family Book, though her two dramas since then have been much more successful (cheerful weekend family drama What’s With This Family and Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim).

Fox Bride Star is being considered for a Monday-Tuesday drama slot on SBS later this year.

The word healing reminds me of Healer( my all time favourite). I really like to see PSH and JCW being paired. I think they will kill it together of course in a strong story

Hyun Bin, please stay put in chungmuro, you are doing well there.
Drama comeback? And with PSH? No need to hurry back to dramaland.

Waiting for his movie with Son Ye Jin to be released this year!

I love Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye, but realistically her acting is not up to par with him. Besides great visuals, she still has a long way to go. I mean come on, she's been in the acting business for so long yet she still struggles to show any realistic emotions, eapecially her kiss scenes. They are always so akward.

Here we go again. I think PSH is way better at acting than Hyun Bin. There, I said it.

It's very funny everytime her haters want to bring her down they always talk about her kissing scene in the heirs, hey wake up her drama is not only the heirs, and she can do good kissing scene in her other dramas

I've never seen any of Park Shin Hye's dramas but she is pretty famous for being a bad kisser so I searched Youtube on how bad she really is and watched a compilation video.... and she looks super uncomfortable and stiff. I'm not sure if they all call for that reaction but her kiss scenes really cringey. I feel bad for her, it's obvious she is not uncomfortable doing those scenes and it shows.

Sigh… Maybe you should do more research then and stop assuming things without knowing anything about her. If you saw Pinocchio and Doctors, you wouldn’t say that. She is not uncomfortable doing kiss scenes. In fact, Pinocchio director said that he had to edit the kiss scenes to make it 'family friendly’ and if you saw the behind the scenes of Doctors kiss scenes, you would see that she’s not uncomfortable at all. Those Heirs kiss scenes were looking uncomfortable because the WERE uncomfortable, they were done from an uncomfortable position and the director and her co-actor didn’t even tell her that they were going for a deep kiss as it wasn’t on the script. When are you people going to stop ranting about kiss scenes when the claims, that she’s bad and uncomfortable, have been refuted multiple times?

Hello? I did say I watched a compilation video which means it included all those other scenes you mentioned, not just Heirs. I've always read she was bad at kiss scenes but I didn't know it would be THAT BAD. There's a reason she is known for being a bad on screen kisser. It looked painful for her and it was painful for me to watch so I have no interest in doing "more research."

I don't think all of her kissing scene are awkward, her kissing scene in FBND,pinocchio and doctors are fine, sometimes people just want to criticize something which is not a fact because they have a strong impression of her kissing scene in the heirs so whatever improvement that she make, they will still remember her as a bad kisser, and by the way i don't find hyun bin acting is very good, yes he is popular in korea, but honestly if you compare his acting with another 30s actors like jo in sung, kim rae won, gong yoo,jo jung suk,or nam gong min, i can say for sure he is the worst

Noooo, not an ajhussi again, first KRW and now HB. PSH deserves better, someone popular and good looking like LJS again or LMH but he is serving. There are soooo many handsome and young actors but she chooses older costars, if she keeps doing dramas with not so famous actors, she will lose popularity and actress like Suzy will get more fans. It is a shame,as a fan I wish PSH stick to actors and dramas that made her popular.

Kim Raewon and Hyun Bin are older, but they are popular and handsome as well on top of being talented so I don't get why you don't like them. Besides I don't think she can choose her co-star. She was always announced first before her co-stars are. If you are a fan of PSH, you should respect her work.

Lol...I pray hard with you too. I hope HB never accept this drama. Your PSH deserves and can do better than this unpopular and not handsome ajusshi. Please director and producer cast PSH with very talented and famous actors who are actually handsome.

LJS and LMH are good looking?! Ok maybe we have different visual standards but they are frankly not attractive to me. And neither are the actors in the 1985s age range like Lee Seunggi, Yoo Ahin, Yoon Shiyoon, Jang Geunsuk, Jung Ilwoo, Kim Woobin, Joo Won, Lee Minki etc... To be fair, Lee Minho and Jang Keunsuk used to be handsome but they've been out of shape in recent years.

Frankly speaking the only handsome one in the 1985s age group is Song Joongki, but he is blissfully married and probably won't want to do a project anytime soon. Oh and also Kim Soo-hyun is rather cute as well, but he is in service. Hyun Bin and Kim Raewon, despite being "ahjussis", are considered more good looking than all the younger stars people keep mentioning. At least to me, lol.

Also, PSH has it waaay better than Lee Sungkyung, IU, Kim Tae-ri and Jin Se-yeon actually. All four are working with way older uncles. Imagine how their fans feel? Especially Kim Tae-ri's fans.

Of course, the younger stars like Nam Joohyuk, Yang Sejong and Seo Kangjoon are more attractive. But PDs won't even think of casting them with PSH because she has gotten too big now. Maybe Park Bogum? But that guy is picky as hell and is on an extended hiatus (probably to promote his cult). Yoo Seungho? Just finished a project so timing doesn't match. Hyun Bin is really one of the best choices actually :)

I wonder why people have so much shit to say about this pairing. They are well-matched imo. Neither are perfect actors but they have the right combination of talent + charm. Hyun Bin might have many flop dramas but that's not his fault; he has done well in movies. And I'm looking esp looking forward to Shin Hye's improvement in acting especially after hearing good reviews about her film. Hope they both accept. I've never been excited about K-dramas for so long.

I second this. I don't get why so many people are against PSH acting alongside young actors. There are many talented young actors like the ones you mentioned.

Hm. If, and that's a big one... if that medical drama is done sound and heartwarming then it might work out well. Park Shin Hye at least has experience in acting as a neurosurgeon. LOL And I practically liked her in all her work. Except The "horrible" Heirs. But that's just my opinion.
But I must confess that I don't even know Hyun Bin. Never watched anything he starred in. He seems to have a nice aura, though.

I'm kind of done with Park Shin Hye dramas tbh because every single one seems to have basically the same plot, except in differing settings. Maybe that's not the case, but every time I watch a drama of hers, it feels exactly that way. Also, the plot sounds like any other drama. K-dramas are over saturated with chaebols/geniuses/chance-encounters/etc.

Agree that PSH should branch out to other genres - like crime, historical and fantasy. But it's wrong to say all her dramas are the same. Pinocchio and Doctors are very different to... Heirs and Heartstrings. FBND was also different from PSH's other rom-com characters. Little is known about her character here, so don't be too quick to jump to conclusions.

Wonderful to have PSH back. It’s been a long wait. She has always had great chemistry with all costars.
Have seen HB in worlds within where I liked him. He is a charismatic star. They both have what makes people want to watch them so I have to admit that this unexpected pairing does make me happy ...

We don’t know much about the plot and this is one area where I have my concerns. It will all depend on the script and how their characters are written with respect to each other and the story.
It doesn’t matter much if the subject matter is healing or something else. The script and it’s execution to bring the end product for the viewers is what matters. The writer, PD and the leads all have the ability to do so. That’s what makes this whole exciting for me and something to look forward to.
My prayers and wish go out for a good script and interesting characterizations.....the starting point of a drama worth watching.

ah Javabeans....lol...the (sigh) when you mentioned he might be a 'genius'. Definitely not your cup of tea I know. But I have to admit...this was my korean drama 'sweet spot' three years ago when I first watched...same with chaebols and Secret-Garden-like arrogant leads (Hyun Bin perfected this stereotype). It was always my favourite 'Taming of the Shrew' reversal...with the guy being the shrew. Having said that...I also like the new wave of heros...who are getting 'prettier' (kpop idol influence) and nicer (more guys than girls in dramas seem to cook & clean now) and more heroines are rushing in to save the hero than before. Thumbs up. But no need to sigh at the mention of a super rich or genius hero...the kdrama universe has room (and fans) for the wide diversity of leads from alpha male to a beta who likes kale.

The plot of 'Fox Bride Star' sounds great as "it centers around Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye who meet in Seoul, and they heal the scars in each other’s hearts as they encounter music, FOOD, people...." Guess these are what they enjoy. Wow! Did you know they are actually good at grilling meats (Per Hyun Bin movie Confidential Assignment interview on KBS Entertainment Weekly in Dec 17, Yu Hae Jin mentioned Hyun Bin's good at grilling meats and Park Shin Hye guest at 3 Meals A Day Jeongseon Village season 2 ep 2 at 53:44. You will be so impressed by how she grilled those meats. Hmm... drooling). If they're doing this drama together, I'll be over the moon...again.. and again...(pls pardon me if there's any error. Thank you.)

Hmm now that Hyun Bin is 99% likely to reject it... I recommend Yang Sejong for the lead role. He has worked with the writer in Romantic Doctor. Both him and PSH also suffered under Ha Myung-hee's writing.

And also HB rejecting the drama means the drama will likely hit daebak or do decently. The guy is talented but has a really bad eye for dramas.

Here's why I recommend Park Bogum for this project.

1. Both him and PSH are lately forgetting their job as an actor, and has been doing CFs endlessly. It's the right moment to remind them what their occupation really is.
2. Both their fandoms are scary and picky af and deserve each other.
3. Equal popularity in both Korea and overseas + similar level in skills and achievements. Therefore fans cannot accuse either of them of leeching on another.
4. Park-Park couple. Don't fans love same-surname couples? Let this new power pairing gather all the toxic shippers from NamLee, BoYoo etc.
