Matching frequencies for Radio Romance’s first teaser

It’s all sweetness and light for Radio Romance’s first teaser, which was just released and features the series leads, Yoon Doo-joon (Let’s Eat 2) and Kim So-hyun (Ruler—Master of the Mask), in a romantic moment on the job. (Those K-drama workplaces, so bustling with romance; how do they ever get any work done?)

The teaser opens as Doo-joon grabs Kim So-hyun’s hand and smiles at her, and he says, “But still, you’re the prettiest.” Then as he places headphones on her head and leans in for a kiss, she asks the question that was posed by the opening words onscreen: “Is it true that if your frequencies match, you’ll meet your true love?”

I am trying (really trying! Very hard!) to be open to this romance, because there is no uncomfortable age gap in the storyline between a star radio DJ who can’t do anything off-script and the radio writer he falls for. It’s just my meta knowledge of the show casting a younger actress to play older, so if the show is cute and sweet and well-made, it shouldn’t matter… right?

I do find the character setup cute, where he needs a script in order to work, and she’s great at all aspects of her job except actually the writing part. Hee. Kim So-hyun’s junior writer character scrambles to survive in a radio station where one’s career lives or dies by ratings, and she’s the one who pursues Yoon Doo-joon, trying to bring him to her station, kicking off their bickering relationship.

Radio Romance will be KBS’s next Monday-Tuesday drama following Jugglers, and premieres on January 29.

I love Kim So Hyun but the male lead is too old for her. I would have preferred Kwak Dong Yeon better. Oh well, I'll still watch this.

I like Doojoon too but I also had a bit of random-pairing wishes when I saw Kwak Dong-yeon in the script reading stills.

Despite the fact that he's way too old for her imo, I haven't seen any of Doojoon's dramas yet so. If he's good, I might accept this pairing haha 😂

Ah, but, he IS an okay actor. No worries about that. The casting + styling here is just unfortunate. I hope it's better when the show starts. :(

If you have time, you should try the 2-ep drama special Splish Splash Love. It has 99.999999% approval rate! :D

Couldn't agree more. But we'll see.

Yes, I will check it out 👍 ☺

She really looks like his kid sister in the teaser. Hopefully that’s not the case in the actual drama. :)

Also, fire her stylist for making her even more younger than her real age instead of the other way around. Lol

I like the hair actually but it does make her look a bit young but I don't mind it. Lets wait till the drama comes out.

I like it, too, but it just doesn’t make her look like she’s in her mid twenties.

I get why many are saying that So Hyun is miscast for the role since she looks younger than her supposed age in the drama, but it's not out so those descriptions aren't final. Child actors and actress like Kim So Hyun, Kim Yoo Jung and Yeo Jin Goo aren't really in phase to be picky about roles, especially since they're still in the days where if they have moderate and not-so-successful dramas, it can still work and their star power would still be on top. YJG was in a lot of dramas and I think a film or two in these recent years and they were all decent or flopped. Kim Yoo Jung got the lucky hit with MDBC so she's being extra careful right now. For So Hyun, despite of the flaws, Ruler still did pretty good and she was the cameos in Goblin and WYWS which did very well. Honestly, there aren't many actresses in their mid to late 20 that can be casted for the role. Yoon Doo Joon is great and popular, yes, but him alone wouldn't be able to carry the drama so they would need someone with the star power like So Hyun who is famous and loved in Korea and internationally. Honestly, despite the age visual difference like mentioned, I thought So Hyun and Doo Joon have pretty good chemistry based on their past collabs and the KBS Drama Awards. This was specially filmed as a teaser, so there is possibilities that So Hyun's look differentiate in the drama or she might get a change in look as the drama progresses because she can definitely look older when the right styling is used. Anyways, I'm still keeping my expectations low because we all know what happened with Ruler (even though I kind of still enjoyed it).

First, what's up with her hair? is that an attempt to look more mature? cause, she still looks young like a baby. second, where is Yoon park?

Why do they make that hairstyle and make up for KSH that makes her even younger than her age lol? I try to buy their romantic moment but she looks too young here I can't imagine it's an experienced writer and a young idol lmao.

I don’t know why but I find Kim so hyun’s acting boring. I hope they lose the perm cause it’s not aging her at all.

KSH is anything but boring. Girl is a firebrand! She kicks ass everytime!

I know who your bias is and I can promise you KSH is a 100000x times more popular than her and a better actor. Koreans will vouch for that as well.

It has nothing to do with my bias nor with popularity. As I said « I find » it’s my own opinion and you don’t need to agree with me. The last drama I watched of her was ruler and her acting was meh in it and she herself said she was in a slump. I hope she finds her fire again in this drama. It’s not a competition for me between child actresses since each of them has a different image. My favorite child actress is actually not the one you think is my bias but Kim Yoo jung since she moved me to tears with her dance in Love in the Moonlight.
PS: Nam Ji Hyun actually already shed her child actress image according to those Koreans you seem to know so much about.

KYJ is the absolute opposite of talented and had only one expression in that dumb drama but someone who likes her can never understand what acting is. She isn't called Little Son Ye Jin for nothing. Her abilities are on a different level than any other child actress.

NJH may have shed her image but she's not popular even in Korea.

Lmao now look at the ratings of ksh’s drama and compare them to the ratings of njh’s drama as a lead. I guess popularity is not enough to make koreans watch dramas

There's Yeo Jingu (20). She also was lead in Ruler last year with Yoo Seungho (24) but the writing wasted both leads.

He's TWENTY FOUR??!😱
I thought he was in his late 20s or early 30s.... my goodness....
Ever since I heard of him from master remember - something .I just assumed he was a really mature actor (And he indeed looks like one) - mature not in the sense that he looks old but his acting is like a very mature person.
He's soooo adorable in INAR and now I get why its appropriate... he's 24... lol. He really carries an air of maturity👍👍

Heehee He went to army really early (20 y/o) compared to other actors. Maybe to help people forget his child roles so he can transition into lead quickly? Although he already had a couple of lead and second lead roles before that. I think his weirdest one age-wise was second lead in Yoon Eun-hye's melo. This was before his army duty: http://www.dramabeans.com/2012/10/yoo-seung-hos-poster-shoot-for-i-miss-you/

I see
INAR is actually my first time watching any drama of his and I'm loving him! He's really good for someone so young. I hope he keeps going far.
Thanks so much for answering all my questions Mary.
I almost feel starstruck lol . A staff of DB is ACTUALLY chatting with me! Lol

First of all, Sohyun's hair needs to go. If they permed her hair in the hopes of making her look older, sorry stylists you guys failed. It actually makes her look much younger. It doesn't make her look like someone who's good at her job (except the writing part, I know).

The teaser also feels uinderwhelming. I didn't expect it'd be this... pink and cute. I hope the drama won't turn out like this though. Not that I don't like cute workplace romance, it's just I want it to be better than that because the premise sounds really good.

Dramabeans has become a cess pool for haters of extremely popular and uber talented stars like KSH. I don't know why JB and GF are allowing this to happen. Pure talents like KSH should be supported not crticized.

I don't love the premise of the cutesy vibe or the chemistry of the two leads. And I'm not a big fan of YDJ but I'll still give it a chance. I'll reserve my judgement for KSH until I see what she can do with an older character role. If I judge every drama by just the looks, then I'd miss out on a lot of good ones.

I bet most of you don't even remember the Beethoven Virus. Now that's an age gap, and hardly anyone bat an eye over that. Is it because you all had an ahjussi crush over Kim Myung-min? And anyway, it's just a rom com, I don't expect much from them except for a fun time.

So the premier date is around the corner, and most Beanies have already written it off already. Most of you are still going to watch it and write the same the exact same opinion you have now in twenty different ways. Rather than the outcome of the drama, I honestly am curious to see if the comment section is capable of changing their opinions or keep saying she's too young until the very last episode.
