- An orphan story with a twist
Hello, I’m trying to find a Korean movie my daughter watched. It’s about a young girl in an orphanage who is sick. She has a picture of a man who is supposed to be her father. A social worker or woman who works at the orphanage starts looking for the girl’s father. He is some type of low-level criminal or gangster. Turns out he is losing his eyesight. He eventually finds out about her illness and in the end the little girl dies and donates her eyes to him. He in turn starts to work with children at an orphanage. There is a twist though — because I don’t think he was really the little girl’s father; it seems the social worker had a picture of him and wrote the girl’s name on the back. At the end of the movie the social worker has a picture of a different man and randomly writes down the name of a child at the orphanage. Does anyone know the name of this movie?
- Gambler loses it
Online. Somehow in Korean, no English subtitles. I watched it anyway. (I am a K-drama freak, just love it!) All I can tell from the two-sentence blurb attached to it is that it says “new drama,” something about Shik Dwong (director), and “the top tower”? So far it is about a guy working for a guy who lends money to gamble playing Go-Stop, and the guy makes tons of money for the lender until he is scammed by a beautiful woman and loses it all and gets the tar beat out of him, etc etc.
Any ideas? Thanks.
- Waiting for a better time
I was recently rewatching When A Snail Falls in Love, and I was waiting for one particular scene, but it never came. Now I realize I had mixed up that scene, and now I don’t know what drama it came from. I cannot figure it out, and it’s driving me crazy.
So, here’s what I can remember about this scene: The main couple are cops, and they are in some other land on a mission that’s pretty dangerous. Something big has just happened (someone died?), and they’re in her motel room going over the case. Well, one thing leads to another, and before you know it they’re in this huge big bed with the sheet pulled up over them, and the camera is right there. It’s pretty hot and heavy for a minute, and then the man stops them by saying that their first time together shouldn’t be in this kind of situation. He gets up, and I think he tucks her in (maybe?). But shortly afterward, someone alerts them that something is happening, and he or maybe they have to rush out.
That’s all I can remember. Can anyone help? Thank you!
- Granddad is a shipper
There’s a drama that I watched snippets of — my older sister was watching it, and I used to watch with her sometimes. She can’t remember this drama either. As far as I remember about the plot, the main leads were in high school and were quite rich, and I think had a purple uniform. They were going out with each other but they didn’t want their granddad-like figure (?) to find out. But this granddad WANTED them to be together for an inheritance (?) which they didn’t want the responsibility of. So he got their servants to try and sneak evidence of them going out. I remember this scene when they were in a shopping mall and kissed in a changing room but the servant was too slow to take the pic.
Please tell me this is not something I just dreamed of lol. Thanks!
- A free TV!
I think I watched this drama just a few years back but I don’t remember when the drama was released because I just got into the K-drama world four years ago. XD
So what I remember is that the two leads go to some kind of an old house. I think the people there help them or something… and then the next day a big box comes and it turns out to be a television or washing machine (but I think it’s a TV). And they said thank you to the people and left. What’s important is the male lead is rich. That’s why they repaid the people who helped them with an expensive TV.
Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

I think #5 is My Girl, they crash the birthday and pretend to be friends with their daughter, they lie to get food and shelter, LOL, and they send a Karaoke Machine!

It's definitely My Girl! :D It's where Joo Yoo-rin first sang her "Liar's Song". The one about plucking the moon for her love.

Number 4 is the Taiwanese drama "Romantic Princess". I've never watched it but I had a friend who watched it and told me about the setting and the first few episodes.
By the way, I really want to know about number 3!

it's romantic princess, the story is about a very rich grandpa that find his biological granddaughter and take her under his wing, wants her to marry one of his successors but one of them [who she happened to like] had no intention to run the empire so that's their obstacle since marrying her will tie him into the family [and he wants to work on his own]

I wanna know what #1 is because it's super intriguing. Does the social worker do it to make the orphans feel loved? To make the "dads" find a purpose in life? WHYYYYYY

I googled your suggestion. It sounds heartwarming! But #1 seemed to have a dark bent.

There are definitely dark elements. The dad is a petty criminal and the reason he is going blind is because a gangster hit him in the head. But I really loved watching the dad develop from not caring about the child to being her father, without necessarily having a blood relationship. The lady that runs the orphanage has a weird habit of matching orphans with the male models in her calendar, as shown in a twist at the end.

Yeah, or was it all cruel manipulation to harvest an orphan's eyes for a sick man? The description definitely could be twisted.

I think no.3 might really be WASFIL. The scene is definitely in the novel. Perhaps, when you rewatched it, the scene was deleted for some unknown reason? (I've read the novel but only watched snippets of the drama - which was a disappointing adaptation - so I can't be sure the scene actually exists)

I can't recall such a scene in WASFIL but it rings a bell. Since I didn't watch Memory Lost... could #3 be Love Me If You Dare? All three were written by the same writer. The leads in that one aren't police officers but private detectives. That should count as close enough, right?^^ At least i remember that there are bed scenes in there. More than one, i think. But maybe I'm mixing those two up. In Memory Lost the leads are police officers so maybe you should check that out too. Talking about it i remember a behind the scenes video i watched recently. Maybe it triggers some memories. It's from memory lost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tPFN6AlwfA

I think no 3 is Memory Lost. But they weren't in some land, but there was a party at the hotel. But that bed scene was kinda similar to the description here LOL.

#2: You sure it wasn't a movie? It could be Tazza -- I've only seen the sequel and it sounds like your description but it could be the first one (both are about gambling).

5. My Girl. It's when the main leads (Lee Da Hae and Lee Dong Wook) are stranded in the countryside when their car broke down. They chanced upon a village and she pretended to be the long lost daughter of one of the village ajusshis just to get food and place to sleep for the night. The main lead, being the gentleman (and chaebol), felt thankful for the hospitality and ordered his staff to send tv to the village under the daughter's name

Number 4 sounds like the Taiwanese drama Romantic Princess. I watched it a few years ago (it’s a pretty dated show) but I remember this situation playing out. The girl is some long lost granddaughter and the guy was someone her grandfather trusted and wanted to be the future CEO or something. Hope this helps!
