Mother is awesome. Don't let the heaviness steer you away from this thoughtful show. It is sprinkled with hope. Cha mom makes me tear up in everyone of her scenes...these are tears of being touched in the heart...not from fear or dread. Yoon Bokie is adorable. Don't miss Mother!

I think it's one of the few dramas that's amazing from the first to the last minute. Got 6% viewing ratings for the final episode. So well deserved.

The Great Seducer only got 3.8 rating from Beanies, why??
I haven't started it, but am curious. How bad is it that it got less than 4 stars from beanies?

It's currently 4 stars to me. I admit I have forgotten to use that part of the site for recent dramas. It's still early in the show too. I tend to give my rating after I finish a drama.

Can you change ratings, because otherwise I don't understand why anyone would rate before the drama is over.

Hmm, actually you can change your ratings anytime. I just clicked on the yellow stars to test it out. xD

I guess people can rate it weekly or however often they want.

I had no idea either until I just read this. I have so many dramas to rate now!

3

Required fields are marked *

It's not so much as bad as it is unrelatable and teeny weeny bit cringey, especially for me. It's a bunch of teenagers who all have either mommy or daddy issues (or both) in addition to having a ton of wealth and who are not really nice to people outside their friend group. But, I'm intrigued about the concept of the show and haven't seen any previous adaptations of it so I'll still be checking it out.

Last year's Mad Dog was the first series I saw Woo Do-hwan in and I thought he was terrific as was the rest of the cast. Highly commended.
His Kim Min-joon was a break out role.
I was somewhat surprised that he chose Great Seducer as his next role. Then again if you are made an offer to be the lead (or co-lead) in a series at that age I guess you take it.
I probably am not in a position to comment since I haven't seen the series (crime/mystery is more my genre) but of course I wish him well.

For myself, I don't really watch dramas to be relatable, but rather to escape. Every once in awhile something like BTIOFL will come along and hit me with characters I identify with, but usually I'm just enjoying a ride of either fun kitschy romance, over-the-top camp, or melodrama. But that's me.

So far I'm really enjoying this as I am fan of both the book and the movie adaptations. Besides, Woo Do-hwan is killing it in this part. The camera loves this man, and he totally knows how to work it.

You nailed exactly how I feel about k-dramas in particular about shows like BTIOFL and AOY.

Woo Do Hwan is honestly such a treat.

1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Hm most of the comments on the recap are pretty positive so far, I wouldn't look at the rating alone. Only two episodes have broadcast so IMO it's a little early to rate the drama, and I haven't done so myself.

Required fields are marked *

Personally, I don’t think it’s fair to judge the drama yet one way or the other. It’s just getting started! I’m liking it well enough and Woo Do-hwan’s screen presence alone is enough to keep me tuning in—he’s one of very few actors I can say that for—but it is also kind of messy so far. Especially the editing. It can be distracting and it took me out of the story more than once.

I predict it will be an imperfect but fun watch. My eyes started to glaze over a bit when it veered into the melo side of things in ep 3, though. So far I have a hard time taking the show seriously when it seems to want me to, so I’m not sure how emotionally invested I will end up being. We’ll see. I like it when it’s more campy and they ham it up with the excess. It’s funny.

Required fields are marked *

I am reserving my rating till more episodes come out, but I can tell you that I am enjoying it so far. Its very much true to its source so far in the theme. Hope it keeps it up.

Why is QM2 dragging this case out??? It's so uninteresting. It does not need another episode to solve. The investigation seems very sloppy, like they keep going back to ask suspects 1 question at a time. Plus, the whole "what about the ring" trope is getting tired. For 2 people who dedicate their lives to fishing out clues and solving tough mysteries, finding out about the ring seems to elude them. It's so annoying!

TGIF bc I get to watch Misty!

Although I'm worried about this too, I don't think the DB team is at the liberty to reveal too much on that. I know a lot of them are still around, though, because they post in What We're Watching.

If the writers have other commitments (like a full time job), then it could be that because of some changes in those commitments they've become unable to do full recaps unlike in the past. The only thing we can do is to continue to support the team and try not to speculate too much.

9

"Pretty Noona" is going to be out soon and no HeadsNo2 to recap it ☹️. She's one of PD Ahn's fangirl lol.
Considering the current state of DB, a Squee Cap will do.

5

Since they didn't address it yet, I believe indirectly they asked us to trust them and be more understanding. I don't think they are intentionally avoiding such questions but maybe waiting for the right time or they aren't ready to share with us yet.

Hi Beanies!! Happy Friday ~ I’m still on my sageuk kick (Six Flying Dragons, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and The Grand Prince), and enjoying it immensely ~ I love all the reasons I have to look up history to help my understanding of time periods and characters. Before I went into healthcare I got my degree in history, and tried to focus on non Western sources, since the usual American school system history books have a definite bias (which is true of any country’s history at the end of the day). I always feel that, since as Americans we are supposed to be more of a melting pot, since it is a nation of immigrants (aside from First Nation peeps of course), we should get at least some perspective of history from at least the various continents and geographic areas, if not the countries, of the world at large.

Anyways, I’ll stop ranting. I missed Waikiki this week, and am excited to have it back next week! I also finally obtained my professional license yesterday (and promptly broke down in tears the rest of the day because of how awful this three month process has been). Thanks for being a part of my stress relief during this time Beanies 🤗🤗

Anyone watching Indonesian movies? I happened to come across this YT vid that caught my interest. Found out the name of the movie, watched it, liked it. It’s called “Assalamualaikum Beijing”. Watched another movie with the male lead from that movie, in a supporting role this time, didn’t like it, “Air mata surga”. So now I am looking for recommendations. Should be a happy ending, no action or horror movies please :) Subs preferably in Eng, but German, Turkish are fine as well. Thanks in advance!

I also like "Denias, Senandung di Atas Awan" (Denias, Singing on The Cloud) and "Cahaya dari Timur, Beta Maluku" (Lights from The East, Beta Maluku).

If you enjoy Assalamualaikum Beijing, maybe you will like Ayat-ayat Cinta (Love Verses). It was a huge hit and considered the best among movies with Islamic theme. I actually don't like movies with religion theme, but I could enjoy Ayat-ayat Cinta.

I love 'The Great Seducer'!! There were many uncomfortable scenes (the supermodel mother for example -.-) but I'm so glad they didn't shy away from those topics.. we've had enough fluff in kdrama world so I'm glad that this show brings forth icky relationships and morally ambiguous characters without being too preachy.

I agree! I am really enjoying it and was so happy and surprised that they haven't dumbed it down too much. The only thing I will grip on so far is that the parents are a bit too much...if that makes sense. They just aren't relatable at all. But maybe its because I am not a chaebol's daughter or grew up with lots of wealth. Who knows.

I don't like it when classy people fight the poor. It makes them look tacky and unsophisticated. 😁

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today!

This week:

Radio Romance - I mentioned to a fellow Beanie after episodes 1 and 2 that PD Lee might in fact be Ji-woo. Of course we're not absolutely sure if this is the case, but I wouldn't be surprised at this point.

Misty - Still love it! I'm a little behind on this though! *sadface* ..... I hope to catch up this weekend. ..... My new, little crazy thought: what if there are in fact two brooches? The real one and a copy.

Mystery Queen 2 - Moments between Seol-ok and Wan-seung are always awesome. ..... Quite unsure about Wan-seung's brother right now.

That's all for now. ...... Take care everyone and have a great Friday!

As everybody seemed to be dying (or threatening to die) in all the things I was watching this week, I went in search of something light and fluffy and funny. And I found it! (I posted this on someone's fanwall as well but thought I'd mention it again)

I watched The Boy Next Door (on youtube) with Choi Woo Shik and Jang Ki Young. It’s a spoof kdrama (15 episodes of 5-6 minutes) and probably the funniest thing I’ve seen all year.

Basically it’s about two guys who – through a set of hilarious kdrama tropes – keep ending up in situations that makes everybody around them think they’re a gay couple. Hint: there’s a lot of falling over!

I laughed so much I scared my cat. And maybe the neighbours.
It was exactly what I needed. I even liked the ending.

I'll have to check this out. Now, does it address homosexuality in a sensitive way, or just as a way to garner laughs?

0

Required fields are marked *

I would say that the humour is very 'knowing', these actors know exactly what they're doing and what the audiences' reaction is going to be.

Whereas the way Strong Woman... dealt with homosexuality made me cringe, and the ending of one storyline in Ho-Gu's Love made me want to throw a cup at my screen, I think this one is different.

The laughs are at the expense of kdrama tropes, not homosexuality. There's even a wrist grab and a song; the only thing missing is the Motorbike of Love.

I think what makes this so good is that everyone around them who thinks they're a gay couple is fine with it. There's almost no gay shock and I felt the one real gay couple in it was really sweet.

2

I absolutely agree. When there is shock, it's about the fact that there's an (mistaken) open display of skinship, not about them being gay. Everybody just seems to think they make a cute couple.

Jang Ki-yong played the second lead in GO BACK COUPLE which aired months after I watched this little confection the first time. Dang! I didn't even recognize him from BEAUTIFUL MIND, in which he played Nurse Nam! What a chameleon!

It is worth watching the four episodes to make the decisions. This drama is not going to be the drama of the year, that's for sure. But it is not the worst drama either.

Why am I disappointed with the second season of Mystery Queen 2? Is it the directing? It doesn't feel quirky enough. Maybe it's the music that becomes super-ultra-mega dramatic and not at all fun in intense situations. Maybe I want all of the old cast back. The cases and sleuthing don't feel as engaging and I want more subtle romance! Maybe it'll be more fun to marathon this show instead of watching it live. That's how I watched the first season.

I've just finished Ep 19, and now I'm torn - I want to watch the next episode ASAP, but I also don't want to say goodbye to this gem of a show:( Things I will definitely miss about Misaeng: the /very/ reluctant friendship that blossomed between my favourite bunch of newbies, loyal teddy bear Dong Shik, Chief Chun and how he adorably became one of Geu Rae's biggest fans, my newfound idol Deputy Director Sun, and of course everyone's favourite Chief Oh ❤ Maybe I'll post my favourite scenes on the fan wall to fill in the empty spot in my heart that Misaeng will leave behind - that's if real life doesn't interfere. Welcome to the OT! I also took forever to watch Misaeng and then wondered what the heck I'd waited so long for. Go ahead and finish it!

@Sancheezy OREGAIRU volume 13 and 14 gonna release together. Who knows when but i do hope it is before December 2018. Translation of volume 12 is just at chapter 2

Children of a Lessor God - Wow good cliche 1st episode. Because of cliche rated it 7/10. All theories today and usual talk tomorrow.

Popeye knew she was byul from the start? 2 scenes at different times have brought upsetting views in my mind. Sister had like 5 minutes of screen time and now is gone. I'm upset. Not only for sister but for other innocent girls ( human beings). When did this guy became killer from a civil exams student. I knew Sis had to go for the Hero to step into the battlefield.

The Criminals - Why do i need to show sympathy towards criminals? Even though annoying smiley face is trying to be reese witherspoon, but i'll still support her over those 3 creeps. Rest for tomorrow thread
Whether its Taegoon or Radio idiot - i never go easy on those who break laws for their ill fun and put others life in danger.

I went to Kissasian to see if Tori Girl and Teiichi's Country was added there and was surprised to see most of people loved both movies. My recommendation.

Need to Complete Shiraishi's death soon.
In april be ready for Hanadan Next Season as well as some good Moe Badminton with Hanebado.

aaah, I am planning on buying Overlord, Totsuzen Desu ga, Ashita Kekkon Shimasu manga, --__--"

I read 3D:Real girl manga this week since I heard there is a Jdrama about the manga,

Hanadan as in hana yori dango, season 2?
I look it up and I am not sure why. I understand that it was a popular series, I am not sure what to think.

3d: kanojo movie trailer is out
HanaDan 2nd season has a bit of diffeent story and less of abuse from male. Hana Yori dango manga is total cringe stuff.
I'll buy Oregairu Blu-ray dvd if and only if they release a live-action movie of it. I'm already too excited for vol 13-14.

Totsuzen is oky stuff. You should try Funohan too. manga is pretty good and 4episodes lead to The actual story The Movie released this month.

It took me years to get but i'm now only watching j-drama and enjoying it so much that i don't feel the need to think about k-drama more than to check news once a while to keep track on possible sequels of my favourites!
Really those jdrama that i finished lately blew my mind with their non compromising ending which can be quite bittersweet to say the least.
I loved:
Cold case
Kazokugari
Namonaki Doku
Petero no Souretsu

Bonus point for Akutou ~ Juuhanzai Sousahan, which didn't level up to my expectations but delivered attractive characters despite their flaws.

Currently watching:
Yakou Kanransha
Yami no Bansosha
Todome no Kiss
Anone
I'm halfway trough the first episode for all those last dramas.

Strange how after years of watching only k-drama without much thinking about other asian productions, i feel like i've finally reached a place with J-drama where i can really find easily what suits my tastes the best.

I have read a lot positive reviews about it but the cast didn't seem appealing to me (i have watched nothing with Shun Oguri since Hana Yori Dango), so i didn't try it yet.
I should probably give it a chance...
