Premiere Watch: Voice 2

Voice 2

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: OCN
Genre: Crime thriller
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Voice was a major hit for OCN and broke ratings records for the cable network when it aired in 2017, and was known for being an especially gritty crime drama (translation: there was a LOT of blood). While Jang Hyuk opted out of the second season, Lee Hana is back, which is more important for the core premise of the show—she’s the one who has the gift of perfect hearing, who can profile killers and crime scenes based on sounds that no one else can detect.

This season she’ll partner up with Lee Jin-wook, a “psychopath detective” who watched his partner’s gruesome murder, and turned into an unfeeling detective with a one-track mind—to find his partner’s killer and return the favor tenfold. He and Lee Hana are after the same serial killer, which causes them to butt heads and eventually team up to find him. The same writer from Season 1 is onboard, and the PD’s previous credits include other OCN thrillers Missing Noir M and both seasons of TEN, so it should be in good hands. If you can stomach the crimes, the thrills should be worth it.

Hmm, I’m not as excited for this season as I was for the first one. Maybe because it’s missing the Jang Hyuk factor? But I will probably check out this drama (if it has subs) for Lee Hana. I liked her character in the first season.

The writer+PD combo is promising. And I love me a good thriller. My feelings for Lee Jin Wook has waned after his recent mediocre dramas. He was cool in Nine and The Three Musketeers though.

3 Musketeers. (sigh) I loved that drama. I was so disappointed when they not only didn't make a part II, but they rushed the end of part I.

I very badly needed the season 2 and initially they had planned for 3 seasons of each 12 episodes. I loved Three Musketeers and there only I started liking Jang Hae-In. 😍

I just saw Lee Jin Wook while rewatching The Beauty Inside (god, what a parade of beauty that film affords) last night. When he has a good show, he's so great. I hope this will be one of those shows for him (even if it's probably too gruesome for me).

I'm in. I didn't like Jang Hyuk that much in the original, so this time might be better.

It will be interesting to see if Jang Hyuk fans will give this one a chance. Despite the same writers, Lee Hana, etc., Most fans I've seen posting comments loved Jang Hyuk and that's why they're skeptical.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Jang Hyuk's acting, so I never bothered with the first Voice. I do like Lee Jin Wook so I'm looking forward to giving this a try.

I might at some future date but right now I really need to eliminate a few dramas, not add! Though I am watching Nirvana in Fire 2 for the fifth, yes fifth, time.

I am a Jang Hyuk fan and personally I am glad he has declined Season 2. As he himself said, there is nothing new he can present viewers in this role that had not been seen in Season 1.

I will be watching Season 2 though, coz I like crime/action dramas and I also like Lee Jin Wook in Nine Times Time travel.

Voice 1 was so good it could have been the best drama of 2017, if Secret Forest didn't crush any kind of competition in a definitive way.
I have complete faith in the writer, the new PD and Lee Hana to make an outstanding drama once again.

"Lee Hana is back, which is more important for the core premise of the show—she’s the one who has the gift of perfect hearing, who can profile killers and crime scenes based on sounds that no one else can detect."

Seriously, thank you very much for this simple - but apparently not obvious for everyone- fact. She's the leader of the Golden Time team and she's got the power which is the reason why the show exists in the 1st place, but the media online have been treating her like she's an afterthought, an assistant to Jang Hyuk'character and now the new male lead.
As if it wasn't enough, all the focus on the trailers and OCN promo material was on him.
Putting aside his past scandal, which really doesn't put him under a good light, LJW is still a bad actor. I've watched Return until Go Hyung Jung left, and i can affirm that he was the weakest part of a cast that was far from being stellar, which says a lot about his acting skills in the recent period.

Anyway, i'll focus on the good: nothing can spoil for me the fact that in a a rare occurence on Korean tv, a female character is a leader of her team, and of her drama. She's having a fair share of action scenes is extremely competent in her job, a mentor for her coworkers, while still being allowed to be compassionate.
Last time, it happened it was on Signal, which is the best compliment Voice could ever had.

Thank you!!!!!!
I didn't watch Voice, but from the description, the female lead is supposed to be in charge. And she's competent and badass from the promo and description I've seen.

But reading the comments, you would think it was ALL about the male lead..

Ohh, that sounds great. I am in need of a nice crime drama. Wondering if I should watch the season one first though.

Thanks for the update on VOICE 2, girlfriday.

Truth to tell, the first season of the drama exceeded my quota of serial killer violence by a country mile. With the prospect of another homicidal nutjob and an obsessed avenging brother in blue in hot pursuit, I'll have to pass. Kim Jae-wook may have been the main killer, but he wasn't the only one. The other perps did scads of horrifying stuff, too. Week after week, it was multiple violent cases, some of them gruesomely ingenious in their twistiness.

On the other hand, I'm glad to read that Lee Hanna is back as She of the Canine Hearing, since it was her ability to pick up clues from ambient noise that was the premise of the show. I'll idly speculate as to whether other members of the original Golden Time Team will also return. As for Writer-nim, VOICE employed some wonderful terrifying literary and musical allusions and imagery (i.e., to Goethe's poem "Der Erlkönig" [Alder King] and Mozart's Requiem) in its characterization and back story of Mo Tae-goo. See my recap comments for the inside scoop. I would anticipate nothing less in season 2.

VOICE had some dandy supporting actors (Kim Roe-ha in particular), so I hope season 2 continues the tradition. Normally I'd be gung-ho to watch Lee Jin-wook taking over Jang Hyuk's spot, but I know my nerves cannot withstand 16 episodes of psychological mayhem that promises to be a gorefest.

* fingers in ears*

Lalala. Need more Sweetness and Light... Lalala. ;-)

Son Eun-seo is back (according to Asianwiki). She was the underutilized language specialist last time.
I will get grumpy if season 2 doesn't give us at least one high-tension scene of her translating while the lead listens for clues in the background.
And why else would the have her back except to have her do something this time?

I'm glad the language specialist is getting another shot at it. Her arc totally evaporated. Maybe this time around she'll recognize traces of a particular accent that will bust a case wide open. One can only hope.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I can't wait~ I really liked season 1. This PD was behind Missing Noir M & Ten? I gonna love it! & Lee Jinwook as a psychopath detective? Give it to me NOW!

Here for it, because Lee Hana was so great in the first season and I miss the golden time team. Now I hope Lee Jin wook can bring on some nuisances, and doesn't just give us overly hot-headed young troubled detective feelings. And can the homicide team be united, without corruption and willing to work with the golden team this time around (asking for a lot I know).

I hope this season has an interesting killer cause that’s what pulled me in the first season and the blood and grittiness was something I found not being able to look away
