Reminiscing about Spain at sunset in tvN’s Memories of the Alhambra

Great, now I just want to get on the first flight to Spain! I’m really looking forward to the premiere of tvN’s upcoming romance Memories of the Alhambra, if only because I get to see Hyun Bin (The Negotiation) back on the small screen, with Park Shin-hye (Doctors) as his co-star. And if the three short teasers that were just released are anything to go by, this show is going to be gorgeous to look at.
Memories of the Alhambra follows Yoo Jin-woo (played by Hyun Bin), the CEO of an investment firm, who travels to Granada, Spain on business. There, he ends up staying at a hostel that is owned by Park Shin-hye’s character, Jung Hee-joo. The synopsis doesn’t reveal much else besides that they both get caught up in a strange turn of events, which could turn out to be anything and everything with this writer, Song Jae-jung, of W–Two Worlds, Nine, and Queen In-hyun’s Man.
The first teaser starts with beautiful shots of southern Spain, accompanied with some pretty suspenseful background music, and ends with our two leads facing each other on a hilltop overlooking Alhambra Palace. The next two focuses on each of our leads: Hyun Bin faces away from the camera, looking out towards a crowded street in Granada, and only turns around at the end of the clip, looking vaguely worried and alarmed. In her teaser, Park Shin-hye wanders atop a hill overlooking Granada at sunset, and after glimpses of the two leads gazing at each other, the clip ends with her smiling at someone offscreen.
The teasers didn’t reveal much about anything, but they definitely succeeded if the whole point of them was to whet my appetite for this show: The shots of southern Spain, the music, the lighting were all so romantic and atmospheric, and now I just want this show to start immediately. Besides Hyun Bin’s return to dramaland and my soft spot for Park Shin-hye, what makes me even more excited is knowing that Memories of the Alhambra is in pretty reliable hands, in terms of writing and directing. PD Ahn Gil-ho of Forest of Secrets is directing, and I’m curious to see how he fares with the suspense romance Alhambra purports to be.
Memories of the Alhambra will premiere at the end of the year, and is slated to start its run on December 1.

Love the music and cinematography!! I hope they use this type of music throughout. PSH is looking gorgeous and Hyun Bin is handsome as always.

Actually, the first seconds (4-ish) of the first teaser aren't from southern Spain at all, they're from Barcelona. In the screencaps, the first one is from Passeig Maria Cristina, where in a couple days there's going to be held a firework festival with music and a water fountain show (idk how to explain it in English, search about 'piromusical de la Mercè', it's beautiful!). The other screencaps, afaik, are from southern Spain/Granada indeed.
Random facts aside, I'm quite looking forward to this, cinematography seems pretty and I like both actors, so... Show, please be good!

You really said it all from the lighting, music, beautiful sceneries, colors, gorgeous cinematography with gorgeous leads that got the visual and talent. Really can't wait for the upcoming trailers to understand what will they face together hope their characters and the plot will be interesting

Cant wait for December!! I cant see much from the teaser but both PSH and HB look gorgeous with the amazing background of Andalusia.
I spent almost 2 weeks touring from Andalusia (from Malaga, Granada, Cordoba and Toledo) till Madrid recently (in winter March) and Al Hambra is amazing.

Thankfully!, six weeks of intense Granada heat would have been very hard to endure.
This year was very mild, and 39 C, (102 F) are very common from May till September.

Filming took place in Spain (Granada, Barcelona, Terrassa, Girona), Hungary, Slovenia and Korea. Storyline is a closely guarded one so it’s anyone’s guess. Personally, I do think that setting is in all these 4 countries...
This has me really excited...places steeped in natural beauty, history and culture

the cinematography reminds me of goblin because of the sunset. That is some very beautiful scenes. I heard they went to Spain two times to shoot scenes. The music is also very nice and gives the show a historic kind of feeling. I'm really looking forward to this one especially because i miss PSH. Pls be good show.

So I know most beanies are probably here for Hyun Bin, but I have only ever seen one of drama of his that I liked, I am here for Park Shin Hye. I just adore her. I will say though that Hyun Bin has aged like fine fine wine though.

Though, PSH is my bias and I have been waiting for so long for her return ....I have to admit that I am excited to see Hyun Bin too. After looking at the trailers and few pics here and there cannot wait for Dec 1 to see more of SH-HB together. May they both have a great comeback to dramaland hin Memories of the Alhambra

There are some actors that for no good reason, I just don't like. HB is not one of them, but I neither like or dislike him. I'll watch and see how he makes me feel. 😏

I don't have any idea there was a Japanese version, and of course haven't watched it. So, yes, for me it is the first one.
And among all new shows, this is the only one I would likely want to watch.

I haven't seen the Japanese version either. I meant even if the general consensus is that it hasn't lived up to the original I'm still excited for it. I'm sure it'll be great on its own as well.

This had better be good if it is to live up to its namesake: Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) is a classical guitar piece composed in 1896 in Granada (the city in Southern Spain where the Alhambra is located) by the Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega. It may be the most beautiful piece of music ever composed for the guitar- and can really only be played by an advanced guitarist as it requires the sustained use of the tremolo technique.
If you ever hear get to hear Memories of the Ahambra you will never forget it. I wonder if it will be included in the soundtrack? If this is a love story the producers are missing a major bet if they do not use it- it is about as romantic as it gets.
And I too must ask- how is it that a CEO is staying at a hostel?

I read that the writer did a lot research on Spain as well as MoA so I can't wait to see how she connects everything and romance to the gaming world

Everything about the trailer is exciting....
an OTP one can get behind wholeheartedly ( PSH is gorgeous and Hyun Bin so handsome....both charismatic) ; a setting that is rich in beauty ( natural and man-made),history and culture; cinematography; music...
All that remains is the script with great characterizations specially that of female lead ( please SJJ don’t waste SH’s talents and give us a strong one not just an insipid extension of the male protagonist ) and its execution.
Have to give this to SJJ that her stories are uniquely creative but lack a good female lead one can get behind. Hope she will prove me wrong here and give us a memorable one. I loved PD Ahn Gil’s work in Secret Forest. Hope he can deliver here too in this AR based fantasy, action, romance drama series.
Looking forward to some excellent execution by the whole team...cast, PD, writer and the whole team behind the scenes.

The PD and writer combo is solid. I like both PSH & HB though oddly I've never imagined them together until they got cast in this. Both their recent dramas for me were pretty awful but I have high hopes for this one. ^^

I haven't made a comment anywhere in this post about either actor... The only comment I said is below this one about not knowing what the drama is about hasn't gotten me intrigued (I like to know what dramas are ultimately about before I watch them).

Because I thought the premise and the trailer would interest me but Nope! Coincidences, fateful meet ups and "caught up in strange turn of events" etc. are just same old same deets! And that trailer up there is just straight lazy! Cuz that's like every damn mediocre drama trailer! There, I said my reasons!

@oosiee I understand your reasons, but this is just a "tease" made probably for set the release date. I think the drama is as far as you can get of coincidences and fateful meet since the drama is about augmented reality. HB talked about the drama in a recent interview and said MOA had many new elements so he is very curious about the outcome. He even said each scene uses several kind of filming methods and it will need a lot of post-production work. It seems is a new theme that korea have never worked with but TVN is keeping everything extremely secretive so no one have any idea how the drama will end about. We need to check out.

Like I've said in the 1st comment, HB and PSH aren't exactly my "oh yeah!!" performers..so for sure I wouldn't go searching for their interviews and press cons! I just came here to throw in my 2 cents about how I really felt about the "teaser" (as in my 2nd comment) but then I opted to just keep it low and soft but obviously that didn't go well!
Hey! Thanks for not bashing me btw and looks like you're a fan so, I hope the drama turns out well! But for me, still a hard pass!

I love this writer, but not really interested in it outside of that. Having no idea what the drama is about hasn't gotten me interested. I think I'll hold off on this until I hear some feedback on it.

OMG all these actress he play with really suck and are not even pretty from Song Hye Kyo, Han Ji Min, Sung Yuri, Kim Sun Ah, to Park Shin Hye and those other actresses he starred with. No offense but he's a great actor and the only actress that can match him is Ha Ji Won. She is very beautiful, smart, and talented. Thoes other actresses are a freaking big NO...No. So overrated and have no skill. I'm so sorry but among all korean actresses, Ha Ji Won is the best. Anyone who collaborate with the Queen are the luckiest person.

I just returned from Spain last week and saw this trailer when it was out the first day! Granada and the Alhambra is beautiful and so glad I visited~ Can't wait for this drama to be out with gorgeous Hyun Bin~
